84 High Street is something special.  Especially for brunch.

My family and I often go here on Sunday mornings to celebrate special occasions.  Everything on the brunch menu looks and tastes amazing.  My go to dish is the Brunch Burger:  a burger on an english muffin with two eggs, cheese and bacon, served with delicious home fries.  It is highly recommended, and may be my all-time favorite burger.  I've tried several of the omeletes and scrambles, and they've all been good.  I especially liked the Macaroni & Cheese Omelet:  it was amazing!  Oh, and the fried calamari is great.  It's crispy and fresh.

Besides the always excellent food, I think it's the ambiance that makes 84 High Street special.  When you first open the door, you enter a cozy bar, that's great for cocktails with friends or that special someone.  If you head down into the dining room, you can observe the chefs in the open kitchen.  I like this a lot.

No matter what time you go, brunch, lunch or dinner, the food and service is consistently good.

St Patrick's Day might not be the best night to try 84 High St, but that's the night we picked, and what a great dinner we had. First of all, you have to understand that 84 High is a somewhat rowdy bar (at least on St Patty's Day) attached to a fine restaurant. There are dozens of really fine beers on tap for $5 a pop. The really nice thing is that you can have a great beer and not be saddled with typical bar food, like nachos and burgers. Of course, those items are on the menu, but you also have the option of choosing some fine dishes.

We started by splitting a mesclun salad. A small was more than enough for both of us. For dinner I had the Chicken Stack while my wife had baked stuffed shrimp. Now I know you're probably asking "Isn't a Chicken Stack something they serve at Denny's?" The answer is No Way!!!. This is a panko crusted fillet topped with eggplant, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella, and a garlic aioli drizzle. The result is something awesome. The tomatoes lent a bit of sweet, while the garlic tones it down. This combination really works. The baked stuffed shrimp were OK -- not great, but somewhat ordinary. We are definitely returning since the menu has quite a few interesting choices.

We have eaten here two times in the past week. A few things:

    1. There is a strange sour smell when you enter the restaurant. I have no idea what is it. Don't worry--it's just there, by the door.
    2. The nachos are to die for. They fry their own tortilla chips, and the proportion of ingredients is just right. Yum!
    3. On the classier side, the Thai seafood stew is amazing. The seafood is super-fresh and the curry is not too heavy or too sweet.
    4. The wine list is pretty good, and there is a good selection of beers on tap. They also offer a beer paddle, with 4 5oz beers, so you can taste a selection.
    5. The service was well-paced, and very nice.

    We'll be back!

We have been going to Westerly for the past 3 years and are just now starting to search out some of the local eateries. My wife happened upon this spot after a google search and then read the reviews here so insisted that we give it a try. I am happy to report it was a great choice. Very nice casual restaurant with a nice well stocked bar. Soooooo many beers to choose from if that's what your in to. I started with the fried oysters appetizer and was not disappointed. They came on a bed of greens and were obviously hand battered and fried in clean oil just for me. No prebattered, sitting around waiting for someone to order them here. If you like fried oysters don't hesitate to order these. We both had the burgers. I had a caesar salad in lieu of the fries and my wife had the handcut fries with hers. The burgers were huge and cooked exactly the way we ordered them. The caesar was very good with nice crisp romaine. The fries where very good with a really nice crisp crunch and great flavor. All in all we will be back!

I'm not one to gush over a mere salad but the Chopped Pasta Salad I had for lunch today was fantastic. I loved all of the ingredients including the simple dressing. There were big hunks of bacon throughout - no Bacon Bits here! Just a great salad in every way!
I also ordered a calamari appetizer. I've never had calamari cooked so perfectly. I wanted to take some home to share with my husband & I had to force myself to stop eating it. Loved the garlic aioli, pepperoncinis, & tomatoes.
I can see myself craving these 2 items often. 84 High Street has a wonderful reputation in this area & they certainly deserve it.

This place is all sorts of fantastic. Even to this day, I'm daydreaming about their Dutch Apple Pancake. FANTASTIC piece of food.

All their entrees are made when ordered and is why it may take a little longer for your food to arrive, especially with the dutch apple pancake (15 min at least).

    We ordered...
-Dutch Apple Pancake - I cannot get enough of this. It is incredibly fabulous. It's a large pancake with caramelized apples baked into it. It's soft, moist, warm, fresh and not at all too sugary. It's about the the size of 3 pancakes due to the apples. The outside is just slightly crispy... mmm... YUM!!! *see pictures*

-White Rock Benedict -- fresh soupy patty and hollandaise sauce. I loved this entree as well, just overall a great warm savory dish... Came with a side of crispy potatoes. YUM! A great contrast to the dutch apple pancake.

84 High Street... you can't forget where it's located because the name is its address!

Great small pub. Waitress was extremely knowledgable and likable. Our table of 4 had the pork medallions with chipotle (great), king cut prime rib (excellent & huge), pasta salad (good) and spinach salad with scallops (good). Recommend even if you need to wait.

Nice place! Atmosphere was comfortable and there was no pressure on what to wear. Our food was good, we split the "84" fried calamari appetizer, very good! I then had shrimp with pasta an she had a large salad. Both of which were delicious. They have a large selection of beers both draft and bottle as well. Service was amazing!

After our less than ideal B&B experience, I was so happy that this place rocked.

It had the perfect feel - relaxed brunchy weekend place.  Just what we wanted.  Fluffy Dutch Apple Pancake, perfectly made eggs benedict, and all in all, a perfect meal.

Well, almost perfect.  They seemed a bit understaffed.  Our waitress was all running around and stuff.  That's the only reason they didn't get 5 stars.  Maybe someone was sick or something because it'd be really easy for this place to be perfect.

Unfortunately, we probably won't be going back...  It's a ways out there for people who don't live in Rhode Island.

Located in downtown Westerly, 84 High Street is an amazing setting for a breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert or just drinks! I've been coming here for years and would recommend it to anyone. The lounge has high top tables and bar seating - this is a good setting for girls night or grabbing beers with the guys. Their appetizers are amazing - fried calamari is delicious and crispy and their nachos are out of this world. I wouldn't recommend the brushetta only because their bread they use is way too tough. The bread they bring specifically for the dipping oil is amazing though!
They have a fully stocked bar and you can order a bottle of wine if you wish. The bartenders usually have a heavy hand on the martinis as well. Their breakfast has huge portions and is delicious. Their entrees are delicious as well. I've had their burgers, sandwiches, greek salad is amazing, quesadillas, and their pastas are to die for. You can usually order either a half portion (which I usually get unless I want leftovers) or the full dinner portion.
Whether visiting their classy-casual place for girls night, family lunch or a date, I always leave full and satisfied.

Very disappointed. We are frequent restaurant diners and loved this place seven years ago. It went down hill but based on the on-line reviews we wanted to try it again.

They lost our reservation but recovered quickly by sitting us in the bar area which was fine not ideal. The service was slow. When the food did come it was not very good. The cafe calamari was under cooked and rubbery. The mesclun salad was average. The bologense was more like store bought sauce and the chicken and chokes was oily with no real flavor.

At the end of the meal our waitress never came to take our check so I brought it to the bar to check out. She apologized and honestly this was not a big deal just wanted to free up the table as a lot of people were waiting and complaining about the hostess. Seems we were not the only ones who had issues with our reservation.

The bar seemed good as were the drinks. I hear they have live music on the weekends. Not sure if this is the appeal but if you are a foodie looking for a good meal this is not the place for you. Don't make the same mistake we did go to Guytano's or Bruna's Table instead don't waste your time at 84 High Street.

    The best restaurant in Westerly.

I can't think of a time I wasn't more than satisfied with a meal at 84 High Street plus they always have great beer on tap!  The bar area is great or you can try their dining room if you're with the family.

The portions are generous & the menu has something for everyone.  I highly recommend the pastas, bake stuffed shrimp & the High Street Turkey burger.

While the entrees are good, and cooked well, it is not great. Again the food is good, well cooked, looks well but is lacking in my opinion. It could just be that the food is a bit on the bland side.

We split the calamari appetizer which was excellent and then for the main course went with a veal dish (prosciutto, spinach & cheese wrapped in veal) and a seafood pasta dish which was highly recommended.

The cocktails are unique, well made and strong.

As others have mentioned the main course can take a bit of time to arrive, so plan accordingly. We were in no rush and we are used to slower service.

What we were not used to was a waitress way over her head. She had a large party and what seemed like most of the dining room. I believe that she had way too many tables and tried to hide as a result.

We had to place drink orders with the hostess as she was seating another couple.

The restaurant itself is nice, if slightly outdated on the inside. All of the staff is very nice and it would be a great place to go for drinks and a lighter meal.

Traffic was blocked on Rt 1 due to a fire, and we were 40 minutes late, we called and they held our reservation. We got in the service was excellent.

I had a Peak Organic Beer and it was really smooth and even buttery.

The 6 of us ordered entrees and skipped appetizers. That was a mistake of sorts. The food as others have noted takes time to prepare. Order a salad at least and maybe the nachos.

I had the Wilcox tortellini and it was very good, nicely seasoned. Desserts were very well presented and tasty.

A great place to eat, parking is simple, just remember to order appetizers cause dinner takes a bit. The wait for the food is worth it

Let me just start this review by saying that I read other reviews about this place before I went and someone wrote about a funky smell when you first walk in.  I forgot about that, until I first walked in.  There is definitely a warm piss like smell in the bar area.  We walked in and were waiting to be seated which took forever, everyone that was working in the front of the house told us they would be right with us, this gave us plenty of time to talk about the pissy smell.  We finally got seated and ordered our drinks when they brought me a flat soda and waited forever for our mesclun salad (it was only moderately busy on a wednesday night at 8pm).  Things all changed when we received our appetizer, we had the baked mozzarella which is bruschetta with a funky name.  This was tremendous, the balsamic reduction that topped it was so tasty that I was beside myself.  Then came our meal.  I had the Wilcox tortellini which is tortellini with veggies and a garlic oil sauce.  It was pretty good i enjoyed it.  The service in the beginning was not great but got better as the night went on.  The food was above average with the exception of the appetizer which was phenomenal.  If I never go back here I wont be upset, but it was decent and not terribly expensive.

A pleasant local eatery that takes care with prep and presentation. The chili was succulent and loaded w/ meat, beans, cheese and onions.  The spinach salad was de-licious. The Bloody Mary was expertly made and delivered w/ a skewer of plump, stuffed green olives. The service is attentive but not overbearing.

yay! im glad to be the first review.

well food fans, or event fans, if you are looking at this right now, you should continue to to work with 84 high st. catering and you can be assured of a fabulous occasion.

you want some examples?  ok, try this on.

flash back to 2003, say september.  if you were in the area, you know that hurricane isabelle was "coming" i say this cause as you know new englanders, it didnt.  that didnt stop those punks at the tent company from pulling out of their contract to set up the wedding tent for me and wifey.  so what happens you ask?  well 3 day (yes 3 days) before the matrimonial bliss was to occur, Kareen from 84 steps up and not only finds us a new venue (which kicked the vineyards sorry sack) on the water for a beautiful sunset (aweeee) reception.  all this with 3 days to re-plan the entire cocktail hour, dinner and espresso bar.  so all you brides out there thinking you need a year to plan?  ok, well you should, but with 84 in your corner, you will be much better off.

well smartypants, what about the food?  well i can safely say it was the best wedding food i have ever eaten, the swordfish was grilled perfectly and the fillet was tender and the moment wifey and i shared that day (aweee)

A planned beach day turned sour by the weather had us meet our friends here for brunch recently on a Sunday.  Our friends got there early and said the bloody mary's were outstanding.  The setting is casual and laid back.  The tables are a little close together for my taste, but we lucked out with a table in a small window alcove.  My husband got the macaroni and cheese omelet and I got the Genovese Chicken sandwich.  Our friends got the grilled vegetable focaccia and toasted crab melt sandwiches.  The food is really good, nice portions, arrived hot, with very fresh ingredients.  You aren't rushed here at all, our server was very friendly and although the service itself appears a little slow, it seems that this is due to time needed for food prep, not any mishaps.  I would not suggest dining here if you have to be somewhere following your meal.   There is a parking lot next to the building (Westerly is a bit busy) and the bookstore next store is really cute.  An enjoyable afternoon was had, even with the rain, would definitely go back there again!

I have been to 84 High Street time and time again and it has never failed to disappoint me. The theme of downtown Westerly is jazz and this restaurant has that classic feel. It is dim, great ambiance, and an open kitchen. After you stuff yourself here, across the street is Wilcox Park, where you can enjoy a great after dinner stroll. It is very beautiful with all different types of tree's and old fashioned lamp posts. I was never disappointed with this restaurant and it will always be my all time RI favorite. I am so happy someone else had the sense to review it!

We dined at 84 High Street at the recommendation of friends who are fans of this Westerly restaurant.  The bar atmosphere was lively and clearly a local social hub with live music that Friday night.  The blueberry martini and cherry-tini cocktail (drink special that night) were excellently mixed with good pours.  Being new and not sure what to expect, we were slightly disappointed with the casual/dimly lit dining room with drop ceiling.  We were promptly seated and on our way, starting with the house salad, a mesclun salad with roasted peppers, candied walnuts, and blue cheese.  The walnuts were yummy and cut the edge of the overbearing and bitter balsamic dressing--the acidity of the peppers didn't help this combination--but the housemade focacia with olive oil dipping sauce compensated.  I chose the special, a very generous portion of two-olive crusted lamb (think 6 frenched ribs).  The lamb was cooked exactly as I ordered--medium well, my fault for not ordering medium--and the accompanying red skinned mash and freshly crisp veggies were the bomb.  The salmon with roasted tomato and mozarella salsa stole the show, cooked perfectly with slightly crispy skin.  Our server was polite but distracted (we all have off-nights).  Alas, we didn't get to try the dessert special, a delicious looking tiramisu I was coverly eyeing at the next table, as our boxed dinner was presented along with the check without our being asked if we wanted coffee or dessert and at that point, why ask?  I would sum this experience as follows--okay service, perfectly cooked, if un-remarkable, food with generous portions, okay atmosphere.  The open kitchen was interesting but the exhaust must not have been working as the air was redolent with the smell of grease (maybe from the hand-cut fries?).  If we were in the neighborhood, I would definitely try this another night in hopes that we just had an off-night experience.
