What a great place. We came to this place because one of my friends recommended. The entrance is kind of hidden and limited parking. There is not much ambience.

The food was fantastic...just like homemade and fresh. The Orange juice was fresh and delightful.
We loved Portugese Suasage and their Egg sandwich was tasty. Banana bread french tast was decent.

All this good food for a very reasonable price which is like an icing on the cake.

    Will highly recommend this place.

Had a nice dinner here with my wife.  I had the short ribs, which was part of the 5-6pm earlybird special ($25) which included mashed potatoes and sauted veggies (but I opted for all vegies).  For my wife, she had mahi smothered in garlic (special order which the chef gladly fulfilled), jasmine rice, and sauted veggies.  For a starter, we had the crab dip with pieces of fancy toast.  For dessert, we opted for rasberry sorbet.

A filling, wonderful meal with friendly service in a quaint, rustic setting.

808 Bistro takes a bit of perseverance to find, for its roadfront sign is overshadowed a bit by Fred's Mexican Cafe sign but you can find it by turning into the parking lot, and heading mauka (inland) until the lot curves to the right.  At that point, look for a sign pointing to 808 Bistro, take the stairs down, turn left at the bottom, and you're there.

Came here on a Saturday morning at 10am. No wait, barely anyone there actually. I think we beat the old folks rush and was way early for the brunch folks.

Excellent service. The girl who helped us memorized our orders and recited it back to us. Love it when they can do that.

I ordered the Portuguese sausage plate with scrambled eggs and Hawaiian bread. Everyone on yelp were raging about the banana bread french toast, so I ordered one slice of it on the side to share. You *have* to get it. It was so moist and delicious! I thought I'd only want a bite, but just one bite wasn't enough.

What can I say? AMAZING!  This was by far the best food we had in Kihei. We ate here twice during our seven day stay.  Mahi Mahi, flat iron steak, clam spaghetti, and bread budding were all to die for (we all ordered something different to try them). This is a must  have while visiting. Don't confuse with 808 Deli, 808 Bistro is in the back, tucked away in an amazing location.  Will miss eating here for sure. Love from Kansas 808 Bistro.

I had to give it a 2 star rating due to the service and the atmosphere.  While eating we got to hear all about how the locals hated tourists.  Then a few days later we were verbally berated by our waitress and she let us know exactly how she felt about tourists and gay tourists at that.  She accused us of stiffing her on the bill for $0 .75 when we left her a $12 tip.  I would not recommend this establishment unless you are a local or you may just get this same treatment.  The food however was amazing and a good view of the ocean.  It's too bad that the service was poor or we would go back.

Loved, loved, loved this place! Perfect location, friendly, helpful, quick service, and delicious food! Ambiance was a double bonus! Between my husband and I, we tried the short rib omelet, curry omelet, eggs and hashbrown breakfast, banana bread french toast (amazing!), goat cheese sampler plate, short ribs entree, 808 salad with Mahi, and the brownie sundae (don't worry, that was three different meals!). Everything was delicious. I don't know why the place isn't always crowded (especially with the sunset view!), but we were thankful it wasn't. Dinner reservations for our anniversary also got us a front row seat for the sunset (though we'd had the same nice view for both breakfasts we ate there, too :-)). Would highly recommend you try this place, and that you try the banana bread french toast!

Had a nice, relaxing dinner with a great view of the South Maui sunset. At first it seemed like the restaurant was in a strange location but once seated I realized how unique it was. The service was great and the food was good. We started with baked crab dip appetizer, which was nice (not amazing but nice). I had the pork and beans, which was great (don't be turned off by the name). My partner had the gorgonzola alfredo which was really good. We shared the mac nut bananas foster for dessert and it was wonderful. Next time I'm on Maui I'll go back for breakfast as the menu looked great.

Yelp doesn't have enough stars! :) This is a 10 star place! Service is super friendly, seating on the terrace facing their own court yard and watching sunset is unbeatable! Food is absolutely the best on the island!!! We had Cordon Bleu, Pork Chops, Tomato soup, Baked Crab Dip, Banana bread french toast, and Bread pudding dessert. All the meats are well cooked, but incredibly juicy and flavorful! Crab dip is a must try, but beware-it's very rich and filling! Bring your own drinks :)

After all the wonderful reviews on Yelp, I was a little disappointed with my dinner experience at 808 Bistro. It wasn't bad, it  just doesn't deserve 4.5 stars. I had the 808 pork chops; they were tasty, but not spectacular.

For a better dinner in the Kihei/Wailea area, try MonkeyPod. Pricier, but well worth it.

This was the Highlight of my trip to Maui!!! (food-wise anyway)

BYOB!! i didnt know so we didnt have anything. :/

This place is kind of small, and people tend to stay a long time because its BYOB. So when we got there I thought we wouldn't have to wait very long because we were the only ones there waiting for a table!. BUT i was wrong.. we waited like half an hour? but the hostess was always updating us. There were 6 of us and they asked if it was okay to squeeze a little and we didn't care.

Got to our table, and our server was really nice.

They brought us bread with this butter spread that all of us found amazing! I dont know what was in there but it was good. We even had a 2nd basket! (shouldn't have though, we were sooo stuffed)

anyways, the server took our order, and the host came to us with complementary crab dip because we had to wait so long for our table and that a big order went into the kitchen before ours so our entrees will take a while too. OMGG! the crab dip was REALLY GOOD. I wanted to order it but I figure it would be too much food. but WOW. so good, you really taste the crab and its not too cheesy.

    Entrees:

Pork chop- pork was tender and really juicy, stuffing was amazing (it had some macadamia nuts in it)
Mahi mahi ginger sauce- perfectly grilled, very fresh
Boneless short ribs - very tender and saucy

Afterwards we really wanted to try some dessert but we were totally stuffed! :/

I loved this place so much that I wanted to come back a 2nd time during our short 5 day trip to Maui!. And I usually want to try as many different things as i can while I'm visiting.

Everyone says to go to Mama's fish house or whatever, I went there too but i say go to 808 BISTRO!

    Omg, Ahi trio = amazing!

Hard to find the first time and don't be fooled by the 808 deli, the short walk down the corridor is quite rewarding ( a la no Kihei Rd traffic noise and some decent views of Kamale Beach II).

Great place for people with whole food / non-process dietary considerations. Yummy veggie sides + great fish / protein entrees.

Hot Tip: Restaurant is BYOB and ABC Store (2 blocks away) carries phenomenal 90+ point wine spectator wines (i.e. Silver Oak, Molly Dooker, Ed Wright, etc).

    Superb for date night!

808 Bistro may be hard to find since it's kind of tucked away behind the sandwich shop, but once you see 808 Deli you know you're close!

Parking: Free in the parking lot!!

Food: You MUST and I mean MUST!!!!!!!!!!! get the Banana Bread French Toast. Seriously, one of the best french toasts I've had on the planet. I am a hard core french toast fan. Breakfast is my favorite meal of all time and every time I go out, I ALWAYS order the french toast, so I've eaten alot of french toast in my 27 years of existence and I can pretty much claim I am an expert.  808's french toast is extremely soft, moist and perfectly sweetened. You can literally taste the aroma of the banana's lifting itself up from the actual bread and onto the taste buds. It doesn't even need syrup to be honest. It was fresh and just insanely good. MUST TRY!!!

    $$: Easy on the wallet

If you are from SEATTLE and enjoy the foodie scene there, DO NOT EAT HERE. Dont just read any reviews and judge by the star rating. Follow a few people who have similar tastes as you.

Dinner was mediocre; Chicken Cordon Bleu (had to order chicken for toddler to eat) was bland. The pineapple sauce was unseasoned and not sweet. Pork Tenderloin was nothing special. More like a local Applebees. I really expect more for a $20+ entree. This was supposed to be a birthday dinner, so we went to Spago and ordered appetizer and dessert at the bar which were delicious, filling.

Also, when I called to RSVP same day at 2pm, the lady sighed and mentioned she could fit us in at the last table corner courtyard. I'm thinking, oooh this place must be good! We got there right at 5pm, first ones. When we left at 6pm, only four tables were occupied. Really.

    - Kimo's has similar quality food, but cheaper.

I had a chance to check out this place for breakfast on my last day in Maui.  Found this on yelp and decided to check it out due to the good reviews.

We ordered one slice of the banana bread French Toast which I really liked along with the curry omelette.  Both entrees were very tasty. I love yellow curry which was the type of curry found inside the omelette.  We went early because we were on a time crunch but it worked out well because we were the first ones there and had a magnificent view of the ocean.

I will definitely make this a pit stop on my next trip back.

Great meal while vacationing in Maui.  Found this place on Yelp and it was everything reviewers said.  All four of us loved our meals, and price was very reasonable.

We visited for dinner.  Two of us had the short ribs and loved it.  My Dad couldn't stop talking about it for 2 days!  My wife had the short rib pot pie and thought it was delish also.  She loves good chicken pot pie and thought it was great.  I tried and agreed.  Crust was flaky and it was like a beef stew inside.

My mom had the clam spaghetti.  She's usually very picky but really like it as well. I also had an 808 salad, which was really good and my wife had the broccoli curry soup.  She loved it and I'm not a big broccoli fan, but I like curry, and I even liked it.

Overall, a fabulous meal.  Make reservations.  We called on a Thu about 11am and they could get us in before 6pm or after 8pm.  We took 6pm and there were only about 2 other tables seated when we arrived (its small).  We were served quickly, everyone was friendly, a great experience.

We stopped by on our first evening in Maui based on a friend's recommendation and Yelp's reviews.  We got the short ribs and the trio of fish sampler.

The short ribs were tender, falling apart (exactly how we liked it), and it had a great sauce drizzled on top.  The sauce was sometimes a bit overpowering, so you have to be careful how much you had with the short ribs.

The trio of fish was good.  We enjoyed the Caribbean-spiced one the best.  It had an excellent salsa to go with it.

On our last day, we decided to check out the breakfast menu here.  We ordered two slices of the banana bread french toast and the curry omelet.  The french toast was definitely unusual.  The banana bread was very heavy and it didn't soak up the egg very well, so it wasn't very frenchtoast-like in my opinion.  Don't get me wrong, it was good banana bread, just not very good french toast.

The curry omelet consisted primarily of Portugese sausage and onions.  The onions were excellent.  There's just something really good about Maui onions.  They are very sweet and aromatic.  The omelet as a whole though was just OK.  Nothing to write home about.

This is my go-to place for dates, taking visitors for a night on the town, and generally having a wonderful evening. It's classy without the uptight vibe, and a great place to go on a date, or celebrate a birthday in style without breaking the bank. I LOVE 808 Bistro!

We went there for the first time about a year ago based on good Yelp reviews and I'm SO glad we did- the wait staff and management are laid back, pleasant, attentive and awesome and the view is SO killer during sunset (try their sunset menu!)

The best part though is the food. OMG!!!!! It's SO thoughtfully prepared, kudos to the chef! My boyfriend craves their bleu cheese apple gratin and I will never forget how delicious the pork and beans were. Everything we've tried here has been a wake-up call to my taste buds and its really set the standard for dining out in my book.

808 is BYOB, which really saves money on the check and the wait staff is happy to open your wine bottle and pour it, or bring you a chilled bucket and glasses for your beers. I'm pretty sure this is my favorite restaurant on the island. Thanks, 808 Bistro!

Short Rib Omelet was very unique and tasty. The marinated pulled pork and vegetables are a great combination.

Banana bread french toast was unfortunately only OK. We read a lot about it on Yelp but were a bit disappointed. It was too sweet and didn't have enough texture. I guess we are more accustomed to the texture and flavors or Brioche french toast.

Bagel & Lox were good. The bagel had good texture and density as is expected from a yummy bagel.

Service is friendly and dining area on the patio is clean and comfortable.

Went for breakfast Because of the good reviews. I had the short rib omelet, banana bread French toast and the waffle of the day. The short rib omelet was okay nothing special. Was disappointed by the banana bread french toast. Don't believe the hype on the banana bread French toast. Ive had better banana bread from the supermarket. The waffle was really overpriced. It was a small serving with a lot of whip cream. The service was not so great also. We were the only ones in the restaurant at one point and the waiter only checked up on us twice. My water was empty During my whole meal.

Charming bistro on the main strip in Kihei.  Known for breakfast but we went for dinner.

One of the best things about this place:  BYOB and no corkage fee.  Fantastic.

Second: service is very good.  We had a couple of friends in the dinner party who had to leave early to catch an evening flight and the staff seamlessly worked to get those orders out first.

Third: the food is really good!  The cordon bleu was tasty but the short ribs and steak were even better.

Wish I could have checked this place out for its famous banana french toast but I'm sure this will be at the top of my list if I ever return to Maui.

Right after stepping off the plane and getting lei'd at the airport, we began our honeymoon here at 808 Bistro with whale pie.

Whale pie is hash browns, ham, egg, and cheese smothered in brown gravy. This is where I discovered that (A) Hawaii puts gravy on lots of stuff and (B) gravy makes everything automatically delicious.

The restaurant is, unfortunately, not on the beach, but we got to eat outside. The menu was kind of limiting, but my *new word alert* husband had the short rib omelette and it was tasty. It was a nice time, but wasn't exciting enough for me to want to come back on my vacation.

I forgot to provide an update......we went back that night and, again, had a fabulous meal.  It was great. The steak had a different sauce thinking it was the same as the steak I ordered the first time, and I when I received it (it had mushrooms which I dislike), I complained (I didn't realize it was my error not theirs) but they kindly explained what happend, and even took the meal away, and redid the meal for me.  Now that is service, above and beyond.    I've been telling everyone we know who is going to Maui, that they must go here for dinner.  Thanks 808!

    Breakfast was excellent!
We split the flat iron steak and eggs and banana bread French toast. French toast was awesome!
Steak was cooked exactly as ordered and so were the eggs. Really great flavor.
    Waitstaff were attentive. Pleasant atmosphere.
Things that could be better: sweet bread was ok not good. They provide a little packet of strawberry or grape jam. Since everything else was so good they could have stepped up on the jam. How about a fresh lilikoi or other Hawaiian spread?

I think I will be a little disappointed when they get their liquor license cause BYOB is kinda fun.  We didn't have reservations - it was about 5:30 and the place was packed so the receptionist said it would be at least an hour but then she very helpfully arranged a table for us in the "bar" area and we had the best time.  It seems that everything on their menu was just yum.  The Braised short ribs were very lean and had an interesting glaze that we all enjoyed. The special - a Panko crusted Ahi looked amazing and the two people in our party that ordered this thoroughly enjoyed it. The Short Rib pot pie had a crust on it that was light and crispy and the filling was savory and hearty.  As I said the place was packed but we wanted for nothing as far as service went.  We will be back (with reservations) soon.

Why anyone would not give this place five stars is beyond me.

We stumbled upon this place on yelp and after reading the reviews I called Spago and cancelled our reservations and we came here instead. We were so happy we made that decision!

One of the main reasons is the menu sounded great AND BYOB! We travel with our wines and having never been to Maui didn't realize that places here cannot charge corkage - so guess what? They won't let you bring in your own wine! What a disappointment for us. Enter Bistro 808 - as others have noted - BYOB...or not and get sodas there.

The folks here are super friendly and helpful. The food is outstanding:

DO NOT MISS THE LAMB WELLINGTON...OMG. good. no... Great... yes... great.

We got to meet the owner, Mitch, a really nice guy! He really cares about his patrons and makes sure to ask if everything is good etc. So great to know we are supporting local folks who care.

We will be back when in Maui! We love this place.

Note: they just started serving breakfast and they have a "make your own bloody mary bar" BYOB of course! :)

We went here for breakfast.  I ordered the bagel with lox, 1 slice of banana bread pudding french toast, and my husband had the curry omelet.  I was kind of bummed that I had to assemble my lox bagel myself.  All the ingredients were laid out on the plate, and I had to do all the work.  I was kinda disappointed by the french toast because I love banana bread pudding.  It was just banana bread used to make french toast.  The word "pudding" put a different expectation in my head.

My husband did really enjoy the curry omelet.  We like different to try different foods, and this was just that.  Unfortunately, I didn't try it, so I can't really tell you what I think.

The waitress was a little out of it, I think.  I asked for a side of hashbrowns, and she came back a couple minutes later asking if we needed anything else.  I thought she meant anything in addition to the hashbrowns, but the hashbrowns never came, so I think she forgot what I asked for.

Anyway, it was fine.  Nothing spectacular, but I would be willing to come back and try other things on the menu.

Yup, as good as it gets.  We've been in Maui for a week and this place is our top pick.  We all loved it and we've been to the swanky restaurants in the Fairmont hotel and Cafe O'lei as well.   This place beat them both easily.   We loved the BYO and went to Safeway and got surprisingly very very good prices on higher end wine, paid only $25/bottle for Kenwood 2007 Jack London (wolf label) Cab Sauv Sonoma CA.

I had a large salad with walnuts, apples, goat cheese and some greens.  The salad dressing was the perfect amount and it was not drenched as most places do it.  I split it w/ my wife and she loved it too. The salad is called an "Uncle Chad".

My entree was pasta alfredo with shrimp and had the two other adults try it and they loved it.  There was plenty of shrimp  that were large and fresh.    The sauce on the pasta was awesome and it was not too heavy, it was rich though.

My wife had a Skirt Steak medium rare which was scrumptious, we added some of it to my daughter's pasta dish.  The steak tasted like a filet mignon.  My brother had mahi mahi and he liked it.   Now what is we keep talking about, this dinner for 3 adults w/ 1 large salad appetizer, 2 kids meals, and one cup of coffee was $107.

Atmosphere is casual, we did not try the pork though and this is one of their best sellers they say.  We're going back tomorrow for dinner.

We were recommended to this place by a guy named Avocado who was our zip line instructor.  He recommended it for breakfast but since breakfast was included in our hotel we opted to try it for dinner.  Plus Avocado's other pick Paia Seafood Market was good hit as well.

    Update ... Sept 4, 2011
We went back for dinner the next night and still give this place 5 stars.  I had the highly recommend pork chops.  I ordered them medium rare and they came out just right.  They were very lean, good portion, and came w/ plenty of very tasty sides.   The pork chops were topped with some sort of tasty topping that we loved.   The wife had the short ribs which were great but we felt the the pork chops had a slight edge over them.

We also re-ordered the large salad (The Uncle Chad) I had the night before and split it as we both really loved it.

    - Cute, comfortable dining environment.

Everything was great! The banana bread was as good as everyone else here claimed. The curry omelet was excellent and the focaccia egg sandwich was very tasty! Friendly service and there's a view of the ocean if you sit by the railing!

Curry omelette is bomb. Banana bread French toast is astonishingly good. Owner came out to greet us when we checked in on yelp. Good service and views too. Will come back.
