The sister and I decided to make 8 Oz. Burger Bar the next destination on our Restaurant Conquest '09 list. The place does get a lot of hype on Yelp, after all.

After getting lost due to my directional retardation yet again, the fact that my trip was extended from 15 minutes to 45 meant that my meal had better be made by gods to make up for it.

That it wasn't. But at least it was good enough to get a 4 star rating.

We ordered the Kobe Beef Corndogs (you get 3) with purple mustard, two burgers and a side of Truffled Potatoes. The corndogs, being corndogs, were bound to be at least somewhat awesome but surpassed my expectations. I ended up really enjoying these and though I have NO idea what purple mustard is, the sauce went really well with the corndoggies.

The truffled potatoes were alright, but were a bit too dry and gave me cottonmouth. Next time, I'm going with another side.

As far as the burgers go, I chose to go with the 8 Oz. Burger with Humboldt Fog and my sister decided on the Melrose Burger with Fried Mozzarella. I didn't really care for her choice as it didn't have much flavor, the beef was a tad bit overcooked and I just didn't like the fried mozzarella.

MY burger, on the other hand, was pretty darn legit. The Humboldt Fog definitely worked with the rest of the burger and my patty was extremely juicy and cooked medium rare, as it should be. Once again, I proved that I have superior taste compared to those around me. Mmmmhmm.

My one regret is that I completely forgot to add the house cured bacon to my burger as I initially planned on doing. What kind of person have I become?? What kind of despicable, soulless human being forgets the bacon? Sad.

A few other factors:

Location -- West Hollywood, which equals "Yay!"
Service -- Friendly, attentive, but with a rather creepy smile. Oh, and the hostess had a purple thong (relevance? not sure).
Ambiance -- It looks like a gourmet LA burger joint. How unusual.

They also have the option to build your own burger, which is totally what I'm going to do next time. They had a pretty extensive list of cheeses, sauces and extras which I need to take advantage of in the future.

It's not goodbye. It's "see you later."

I've heard about 8oz Burger Bar a few times now and finally decided to try it when my friend told me they had Fried Wisconsin Cheese Curds.  Being born and raised in Wisconsin, and slightly homesick, I decided it was now a must to check this place out.

So, their  "Fried Wisconsin Cheese Curds with smoked tomato sauce".... NO! NO! NO!  First of all, they used a really weird seasoning for the breading and fake cheddar cheese.  The smoked tomato sauce - ew!  Its as if they put ketchup in an ashtray.

My boyfriend ordered the 8oz burger and rings, it was alright.  I had the grilled rib and cheese.  It was good, but definitely needed a sauce or something (and no, it did not tase well with the smoked tomato sauce).

I've noticed that some reviews have mentioned their burgers were better than Father's Office - no way!  They don't even come close to Father's office!  Not even with their beer selection!

The only reason I'm giving this restaurant 3-stars is for our waitress.  She was very knowledgeable and threw out suggestions of what to order.  She was also very attentive.

All in all, save your money and check out a different restaurant.

I like 8oz.  This place has real potential.  Great sides, nice bar, good atmosphere and perfect location.

I just think they need to put more focus on their burger creations.  Leaving it in the hands of the customer is just weak.

The chef at 8oz needs to change the menu. Come up with 10 burgers and leave it at that.  Allowing the customer to make a burger doesn't result in a delicious experience.

Umami and Stout put together delicious burgers for you.  Their creations are amazing.  8oz can do the same and be right up there with what I consider to be the top burger spots in LA right now.

I was skeptical when my friend told me that this was his absolute favorite burger place (second possibly to Father's Office), especially when I saw only 3.5 stars when I was looking up directions.

This place doesn't disappoint though.  I'm usually a burger person but the short rib grilled cheese caught my eye and I couldn't pass it up.  It's the perfect combination of well seasoned meat and oozing cheese and after a bite, I was totally won over.  We shared the truffled potato skins, with parsley and parmesan, which were delicious though a tad too salty.  When I asked for a Stella, the waitress said they didn't have it but offered me a list of other beverages she thought I might like instead.  I appreciated that.  Throughout the night, she was attentive but not too pushy.

It has a great ambiance as well.  It's laid back and low key and you do see a lot of after-work corporate types rolling in to kick back. Would definitely recommend stopping by.

If you're looking for a very tasty burger and don't care about the price, this place is right up there with 25 degrees. Went here with my brother, we were hungry for burgers, and this place got the job done. I ordered a medium-rare burger, hold the onions, and from the first bite I knew it was something special. Very delicious. Fries were ok, washed it down with PBR in a can.

My only problem is the price. This is an expensive burger joint. $10 is the base price for a burger, with many sides costing $1-2 more. Seriously, a $1 for ranch sauce or barbecue sauce??? $2 for mustard greens?

Granted the quality is better than other ridiculously expensive places like, say, Hamburger Mary's or Ketchup, but why not save yourself some bucks and go to Apple Pan or Oinkster or even Fatburger? If this place had cheaper booze and a $7 base burger, I might come back. But I like to get some bang for my buck, and this place isn't worth it.

came here with my bestie for a friday dinner.
it was not that packed for a friday evening time.
our waiter was really good, he answered all the questions we had and made sure we had water and even let us move because we were too cold at our original spot.
we both got the melrose burger because there was a special combo (fries and soda). it tasted exactly like father's office with different bread! (and not as salty as FO's burger). good quality meat, onions, greens (all the same as FO except for the bacon). it was pretty decent.

the mini-corn dogs looked really good..anyone try it?

The burger was very yummy, can't argue that. We got onion rings & fries as well, both very good too. However, the service was a different story, also leading me to conclude that this place is a little overpriced for what they give you, but of course, I had to try it!

My friend asked for her burger well done, it was bleeding...
We each asked for a beverage and never got those until we pretty much stalked our waiter and had him get our drinks...
The waiter never came around. We just saw him when he took our order, and he seemed to be in a HUGE rush while he was doing this. I think it's kind of a crock to charge people $1 for a side of ranch, but hey, to each their own ... I guess!

The burger itself was tasty and fresh and I really can't complain. It didn't leave me feeling disgustingly full at the end, which was actually nice because I got to enjoy all of my food. I got the Melrose and added avocado to it -- good choice.

The place is worth a try. Great ambiance, great location, etc.
I just don't think it's somewhere I'll think of heading back to. I'm still waiting to experience a Father's Office burger ;-)

More like 3-1/2 stars.  Had a piece of their hot wings...it was spicy, but it was bleh!

I had the 8 Oz combo with the yelp recommended potato skins and one of their beers.  The burger was surprisingly good, flavorful sauce, juicy burger.  The potato skins were too greasy, okay, I guess I expected more from all the glowing reviews.  Beer was good.  Service was also friendly and attentive.  Would have stayed to hang out longer but they were getting busier and needed the table.

An excellent, excellent burger joint. C. got the Melrose with some sharp British cheese, and I got the 8 Oz. with white cheddar. The meat came medium rare, which was OK, but both of us like our burgers done a little more, so we'll remember to specify next time -- first time, take it as they serve it, especially if it's their specialty!

For a side, instead of plain old French fries, we got the potato skins, which were well-herbed and tasty as heck. Even better with ketchup, which they don't put on the table by default. So ask for it! You'll get a little cup, so if you need more, don't be shy.

And to drink, in addition to tap water, we got a root beer float, or Black Cow. The Black Cow does double duty. It's a beverage with your meal, and then it becomes dessert. Delish! They use canned A&W root beer, which isn't as good as draft, but it's better than Mug. So there you go.

Our waitress was friendly, funny, and engaging. Best server I've had in awhile in the personality department. We'll return the next time we've got a burger jones.

As said by many: awesome place, cool atmosphere, quality food, great ingredients,  nice selection of beers but...its just too expensive.

The burgers were tasty. One of the better burgers I've had in a while. They put a lot of thought into them. The various hamburger meats are excellent, onions and tomato are paired perfectly and the extras (like cheeses) only add to the quality. I wasn't excited to see that you have to pay a lot more to get decent extras (b-b-q sauce, cheese, bacon, etc).

Fries were also a great choice and reminded me of a fresh cut in-n-out style fry that had been well done.

In the end, I won't come back all that often because I spent about 15 bucks on fries, burger and a drink during their happy hour special.

A good burger, but not the best I've had in LA.  That honor still belongs to Father's Office.

I had the signature, 8 oz. Burger.  The meat was tender, cooked medium rare just the way I like it.  But, surprisingly the meat lacked flavor.  I still ate it all because it was a nice quality meat.  The bun on this burger was especially hearty and I really liked it.  My friend had the Melrose, which is a smaller burger at 6 oz.  As far as gourmet burgers go, the burgers here are on the cheap side ($8-10, instead of $12-18).

I added a side of the Truffled Potato Skins.  These came dusted with parsley and parmesan and had a light truffle taste.  They were awesome!  Skip their fries, which were nothing special, and go with these I'm telling you!

We also tried the Grilled Marinated Artichokes with herbed aioli.  You have to try this if you like artichokes at all.  The grilling makes such a difference in the flavor!

My friend and I came here around 6:30 on a weeknight and the place was quite empty.  By the time we left a little after 8, the place was finally getting crowded.  8 oz. has good happy hour deals before 7.

I work in advertising, so I must preface this review by saying that unlike Burger King where you get it "Your Way, Right Away", at 8 oz. Burger Bar, you either get it their way, pay an arm-and-a-leg to get it your way, or you settle for something unrelated to the burgers that the establishment is known for.

I'll suspend the "which did she choose" and say that I settled, but before I go into detail for what I settled for, I want to give a brief preface to what led me to this decision.  I wanted the Melrose burger which is 6 oz and has some tasty items.  However, some of those items (which are listed on the $2 charge section) were not really what I was craving.  I was craving two different items from the same $2 section.  When I asked the waitress if I could do a swap, she told me that she would remove whatever I didn't want, but that I would be charged for whatever I DID want.  Huh?  The two items were both in the same section, both cost the same amount of money, but I would be charged an additional $4.00 just to have two ingredients I wanted instead of the two that were listed with the burger?  Umm... no thanks.  That's b.s.

We are talking about a hamburger joint, not a five-star restaurant where you might insult the chef by substituting.  Needless to say, I had a most sour taste in my mouth, but decided that I could be healthy and settled on an heirloom tomato / burrata cheese salad.  This salad cost me $10.00 and I was expecting it to be fully loaded.  Ladies, if you make a fist with your hand and put it on a plate, that will tell you how big my salad was.  It was a JOKE!  What an insult!  I was charged $10 for three slices of tomato, four croutons, a slab of green leaf-like lettuce, and a slab of cheese on top.  I showed a friend and he couldn't get over it.

The salad was good which is the only reason why this place is getting one star instead of zero, but I will never go back.  So... if you want a meal that is "Your Way, Right Away", I strongly recommend elsewhere.

Found this place walking down Melrose by chance, and most of my visitors love their experience here. Don't get me wrong its a good burger :)
The estancia burger is my favorite, yumm. There are so many cheese and condiment selections it will make your head spin. Some friends got the 8 ounce "the signature" but im glad I chose the estancia, the sauce made all the difference!
Please do not leave without trying the truffle potatoe skins!! Out of this world, if you had to choose a last meal, these would have to be your side, if you know what i mean.
Oh also, the kobe corn dog starter wan an interesting take, esp the purple mustard, but it was a bit strong for me. The table sure gobbled them up though ;P
Overall, the only bummer is finding parking on the infested colony of a street they call Melrose!

They have a really good veggie burger.  It has a delicious charbroiled taste to it - and it actually tastes kind of beefy.  Very rugged veggie burger.  They serve it with sprouts, lettuce, tomato and onion.  It also comes with mayo and mustard but I asked for no mayo which made it a little dry.  Maybe I should have asked for bbq sauce instead but damn!  They charge you for every little thing.  At any rate, I'm a fan of their veggie burgers, but I think I'll skip the fries the next time - they were soggy and too expensive ($4).

You can order take out from the bar if you just want to run by to grab lunch.

Hi boys and girls! Today we're celebrating the letter B with a field trip to 8oz Burger Bar! Why, you ask? Well for all the wonderful, B-worthy words it represents.

Hooray! Let's go!

The first of our wonderful B words lie in the name itself - "Burger" and "Bar" can only represent very, very good things. Remember that.

Inside, you'll find a plentiful selection of Beer - everything from micro Brews to imports, and... Oh what's that? You're not old enough to drink? Well in that case, you can always get a homemade Root Beer Float instead. But then again, who needs rules? We're celebrating the alphabet dammit!

Of course when you have Burgers you must also have Beef - perfectly seasoned with one of like 8 selections of cheese, which you can choose from when you Build Your Own. And don't forget a side of the Beer Battered Onion Rings to Boot. But even if you're not down with the cows, the turkey and veggie selections here will do nothing short of titillating your tastebuds.

It's also a great place to take in some Ball - whether it's the hoop, foot, or bat kind, there's plenty of screens to catch your favorite team. And of course that means there will most likely be plenty of Boys - including the kick-ass waiters who will always bro down with you (in a totally non-douchey way). They'll even bow down to your dangerous choice to get extra Bacon in that Short-Rib Grilled Cheese, wishing you luck on not having a heart attack shortly after ingestion. (We lived, thankyouverymuch). But even if you're feeling a little 'burn with all that greasy goodness, never fear - just wash it all down with a Bacon Bloody Mary. No, there is never such a thing as too much bacon. Even in liquified form.

So, to recap, today we learned that all good things start with the letter B: Beer, burgers, bacon, bloody marys, balls, and boys. And what does that make 8oz Burger Bar? Another B word: BAD ASS.

If you go here with the expectation that this is a place to get a cheap burger that just happens to have a liquor license get real. The burgers they have for $8 are perfectly sufficient. The floats are mediocre, and the fries were rock hard and forgettable. The fact that they charge for every other burger topping and get away with it is proof that there are plenty of flies buzzing around this particular pitcher plant.

The burgers actually aren't what made the strongest impression here. It was the waitstaff. They all were wearing street clothes and seemed to be making an active attempt to try to blend into the background. For some reason this really unnerved me. When we were seated, a girl that was carrying on a conversation at the bar with a couple of other drinkless people broke off and came over to took our order. It almost felt like an ambush. If she was hiding behind a plant it might have been cooler.

My search for California's best burger took me to Melrose last night. I was very skeptical... since I am traditionalist when it comes to a hamburger (believing that too fancy is not suitable for an American staple).

8oz. was packed on Friday night--which as I have said before is a great sign--even better we were seated quickly. Aside from the quick seating our server was sweet but her service was a little delayed (that was my tiny grievance with the place).

I ordered the 8oz. after reading a lot of yelper's reviews claiming that was the burger to have. In addition I placed an order for potato skins with truffle oil sans Parmesan cheese.

When the order arrived it was a big day coming (yo la tengo reference #2). The meat on the 8oz.. was fantastic, comprised of tri-tip, short ribs and various other flavorful parts of the prized cow. I have to say with all initial reservations aside that the burger was quite the amazing... The skins also were wonderful with a little bit of a parsley garnish--providing a killer compliment to the burger.

On the whole the place had a decent ambiance but the reason you would come here would obviously be for the hamburger/ veggie burger (if you're into that sorta thing). I know that I am inching closer to the perfect burger. I would and will come back soon.

I knew the moment I gave the bartender my order, that there would be a problem.

The music was too loud. She wasn't the brightest bulb in the box. And she wasn't writing any of it down. Not. Good.

As I gave her my order, she just stood and nodded. I thought to myself, there is no way in hell she's gonna remember that I asked for a burger medium well, no onion, no special sauce, lettuce/tomato/pickles on the side, add bacon + american cheese, and a side of onion rings.

Sure enough, I was right. When she brought my to-go bag and the check, I didn't see cheese on there.

I asked her if they'd added it. She said, 'oh, what?' I said, 'I ordered it with cheese, remember?' She said, 'oh,' grabbed the bag and walked over to the kitchen. She came back, apologized and went to the register. She brought the check back and I saw that she'd added the cheese, but charged me a dollar for it.

Sorry, but you screwed up my order, and now I have to wait even longer for the kitchen to fix it? You should apologize and say you'll take care of it. To make up for your mistake, I don't think you should charge me the extra dollar.

They fixed it and I checked it to make sure it was right. The lettuce/tomato/pickles that I'd asked be separate? Nope. They were in the box with the burger. Not on the burger, but next to it. The whole point of getting it on the side is so that it won't get hot. Nothing nastier than warm lettuce.

I told her this and she gave me MAJOR attitude. I said fine,  just give me a container and I'll take care of it. She brought me a box, but no napkin or utensils. I had to reach in and grab a handful of shredded lettuce with my bare hands. The only thing worse than eating warm lettuce? Touching it.

Normally, I'm a great tipper. I even tip great on to-go orders. But a bad attitude and crap service? Sorry, can't tip for that.

The burger was okay. Nothing great. The bun kind of sucked. The onion rings were good.

I just think for the price? Not worth it. If you want to spend this kind money on a burger? Go to Father's Office.

Our burger "crew" came here a couple weeks ago in a casual attempt to try most of LA's hot burger spots.  This is I believe the 3rd outing over the past 6-8 months, so again, "casual"

This place apparently used to be Table 8, and I don't know what the reason of converting it to a more casual, sports bar type of restaurant, but whatever.  The decor I think is probably still holding on to some details that were present during the Table 8 days (at least from the pictures I saw) with mostly darker colors and dark wood furniture, but it still had a casual feel.  In the front on one side, they had elevated booth seating.  The place itself is pretty spacious.

We sat down and looked over the menu.  They had a handful of appetizers and side dishes, then on the other side, they had a few pre-set burgers but also had a build your own burger option.

I decided to get the 1/2 lb patty with arugula, sauteed mushrooms, balsamic grilled red onion, a cheese called bel paese (which they told me was similar to a provolone), and got roasted garlic aoili on the side.  I skipped on a side at first, but after a couple of minutes, and tasting one of Felicia's truffled potato skins, I decided to add that.  That was especially good with ranch dressing.

As for the burger, not the best I've had.  Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad and I wasn't fighting myself to finish it, but I've had better.  I was a little disappointed to see that the burger was overcooked.  I asked for medium rare and it was cooked more towards medium well.  And I will have to say that the insides of the brioche bun that they "toasted" was on the verge of being burnt.  Not that it tasted burnt, but just aesthetically, it was a bit of a let down.  I don't know if that was their intention or they just simply left it on for too long.  But I'd rather wait an extra 2 minutes for a properly toasted bun than something that was black.  Meh, whatever.

Oh, our whole table shared a few cupcakes and they were freakin' DRY!!!!  You can ask some of the girls... I was cringing from the dryness of the cupcake....

Service was decent with a couple of moments of "where'd our waitress go?" and I don't know if it was her or another server, but one of them happened to drop a can of beer right behind us, partially splashing us.  It didn't get us too much, but just a little.

Would I come back?  Eh, we'll see...

This one is for the all the turkey burger eaters out there. Yeah, baby, you know who you are. Once in a while you'll get down with a veggie burger, but they usually pale in comparison to their meatier, turkalicious cousin.

I'm just tellin' y'all, just 'cuz you don't do do the beef or the swine, doesn't mean that 8 ounce can't be your place. One dish says it all baby:

truffled potato skins.

O. M. G.

Inspirational.

The first time I went, they stole my heart, but the turks burg did not.

Last night, the turks burg was done right: lettuce, tomato, mushrooms and avocado. Did not specify well done which is my m.o. and yet is was perfecto.

Everytime the boy and I go, the service is stellar.

One star missing b/c I want to see that magic trick again. I mean, I wasn't even hungry! Oh, and, also that one star is missing b/c I do like chinese broccoli, but  specify that you are serving me chinese broccoli--the boy didn't even know the difference...but that is a burger of a different color...

I can honestly say that the cons outweigh the pros by just a tad. Hence, the two stars instead of three.

1. Everyone complained about how poor the service was, but I expected poor service on Melrose.
2. The food was just okay. It didn't taste nearly as good as it sounded on the menu. I ordered the Estancia Grass Fed Burger. I actually got sick from my burger later on, extreme acid reflux for two days.
3. I really liked the decor and vibe.
4. The music was good enough.
5. Kind of reminds me of a college campus place.

Overall, if you're in the mood for an almost average place and want to relax and do some people watching, this may just be your place. Good ole American food and nice, easy atmosphere.

Bun: 3 stars-greasy thick yet soft piece of bun. I was pleasantly surprised, but it's still not as good as shake shack's bun.

Meat: 2.5 stars nice thick piece of beefy juicyness, but lacks flavor.

Toppings 4 stars-Build your own burger if you can, and especially if you can afford it. Great selection of premium toppings.

Sides (truffled potato skins) 5 stars!! I guess adding anything w/ Truffle oil will make everything taste better, which is the case for these skins...Deep fried and perfectly seasoned. A must order!!!

Service 4 stars- went here on its down time around 4pm so I can't complain. From the other reviews, I'm kinda scared to come here during peak hours.

It must be hard to be a gastropub burger bar in Los Angeles, as you will be eternally eking out a living in the monstrous shadow of the Father's Office burger. For indeed, it is true, it is the burger I judge all burgers against, because that burger is like a kiss on the mouth. Sorry. I know that sounds gross.

Still, the burgers are good but nothing to faint over.  I like that you can override their arrangements and build your own burger (oooh, bel paese, white cheddar, cave-aged gruyere). The truffled potato skins were quite good yet I think they get the "truffled" part from truffle salt and not truffle oil, so the truffle taste was light.

This is gonna sound wicked odd but...the roasted garlic broccoli was really good. I know, what the hell are we doing eating vegetables at a burger joint?  It's called "wanting to live past 70", people.

3 stars for the burger. An extra star for the fact that we heard the Pixies, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Jurassic 5, Beck, and the Pixies on the music in the restaurant.  I generally hate having to listen to music in a restaurant but damn. You just won a star for that, 8 Oz. Burger Bar.

After hearing several of our friend's rave about 8 oz Burger Bar, one Saturday night we decided to give it a whirl.

On a Saturday night at around 8PM it was super busy but we were promptly seated.

We ordered: I had a burger (obviously) which I created myself with white cheddar cheese, horseradish dijionaise, wild baby aurugala and bacon.  My girlfriend ordered: The Estancia Grass Fed.  We ordered the Kobi beef corndogs for a starter and some french fries.

The food did seem to take a while and our corn dogs never came out.  The waitress said that another waiter stole our order and gave them to us free of charge.  They came with purple mustard which had a nice kick to it if you like spicy. Next time I will order this on my burger.  The corn dogs were not very good.  The cornbread to hot dog ratio was off.  Way too much meaty taste needed a thicker crust of cornbread and I like my corndog to have a bit of a crunch to it.  The breading was too soft.

The burgers in my opinion is the best burger that I have ever had, hands down.  The is a blend of sirloin, tri tip and chuck and is then cured in their himilayan salt-tiled locker.  The meat is juicy and extremely flavorful.

The service was good, parking was fine.  The service was a bit slow for my taste but it was Saturday night and it was very busy.

We ordered chocolate chip cookies to go for dessert.  They were very ok.  Would pass on them next time and go for something else.

Yes, I actually went back there.  Its crazy, but theyre at the end of the street.  maybe they were having a bad day.  or i was being unfair.

I cant go the Whole Foods becasue theyre actively lobbying against health care - essentially admitting that theyre prices are a rip off.  theyre not offering organic food at market prices - theyre ripping off hippies.

so burger bar...  is EXACTLY how i described it last time.  waay over priced.  disappointing quality.  rude staff.

this place should call themselves BAR.  and just cut out all the burger nonsense.  only a barfly would buzz this place.   I read these five star reviews and I have to imagine they are visiting another Bar from a paralell universe.  they cant be taking about the same place.   oh yeah, now i remember theyre actively marketing on yelp.  probly soliciting positive reviews from friends or friendly drunks.

If you are looking for an average burger, menu, and service, but want it in a trendy urban fashion then here is the place for you...
Nothing on the menu is that spectacular or anything you haven't seen already... Kobe this, truffled that, mixed with a dijionaise.

The server was super friendly and looked like he could be an actor, as for his fellow cast mates, not much of an ensemble.  They did not help him out unfortunately.

The burger was juicy!

Yes I said I wasn't going to come again, but my last visit was when they kind of first opened and my friends wanted to try it out so I said sure why not.  Let's see if they've improved.

Friends ordered the corn dog...this time it wasn't cold!  it was actually decent.  (+1)

They wouldn't seat my friends without everyone being there.  Then when we got there (six of us) they seat us right in front of the freaken door when there were other tables available.  We ask if we can move and they say we won't fit.  Then there is a big table in the middle and we later come to find out it's saved for 5 of the managers friend.  My friend asked to use the restroom as he was waiting for me and the manager asks him if he is a patron LOL...he's fucken waiting to be seated moron! (but you won't seat  him!)

Yes seating problems again.
Then I hear a waiter dropping the F bomb after looking at the cash he collected from another table.  Then I hear the manager (a freaken clown if I do say so myself) arguing with the hostess saying she didn't seat some people correctly.

We ordered 6 sides, but they all somehow ended up on our plates instead of coming out on different serving plates (like other people).  When we saw other folks get their order of fries, it came out in their own dish and it looked like you got more as well.  (-2)

Whats up with the stingy (HEINZ) ketchup!  just leave a bottle out or something already geez.  (-1)

My plate is full of fries and a bus boy says "excuse me, may I take your plate?"  I replied "why would you want to take my plate for?"    I'm fucken eating the fries! (i didn't say that but I was thinking that).  (-2)

Our waiter himself was pretty cool, but everyone else from the bus boy, hostess, manager (major douche), and other servers all sucked.

Burgers are ok....fries are ok...onion rings again still suck ( too much batter), the garlic potato wedges are good.

I don't think I'd come here again even if it was freaken free.

Rootbeer float: Best I've ever had. Seriously. The ice cream was the best part.

Onion rings: Best I've ever had. Light crust, light onion flavor. I could eat 100 of these things. I didn't feel greasy and oniony afterwards!

Truffled potato skins: Too thick, too garlicy. Pretty disappointed. Also, not really potato skins, more like thick cut fries with the skin still on!

8 oz. w/ gruyere: Fabulous. Cooked medium-rare, juicy and delicious. Your pretty standard burger done right.

Melrose w/fried mozzarella: The mozzarella is what did it for me. The arugula and the almost rare beef tasted incredible. It was a very unique flavor of burger, especially with the red onion marmalade. I would definitely order this one again, or try to recreate it at home!

Overall, I may have to come here again... of course after I try all the other "best burgers in LA" places on my list...

The burgers here are quite good, although the buns really suck and I wish they had use house-made buns instead.  I ordered the Melrose with goat cheese, and it was pretty delicious.  It's still not as good as The Village Idiot down the street, but it does come pretty close.

One thing that keeps me coming back here?  The BACON BLOODY MARY.  If you want to feel like a fat ass yet enjoy your drink, order one.  The stirring stick is a strip of BACON!  And it's made with bacon-infused vodka, so it's double yummy!

I got pretty good service at this place, even though it was packed and all the hipsters were coming out of the wood work.

PLUSES:

Bloody Mary #1: (5 Stars)
Great Flavor, one of the best tasting Bloody Marys I've had in a long time. The pickle that came as a garnish was outstanding.

Kobe Corn Dogs: (5 Stars)
I'm in love with these little critters. Good enough to make me consider a return trip. The meat was flavorful (but I have no idea why they are called "Kobe" since they looked like any ol' weenie) and the breading was amazing!

Service: (3 Stars)
Friendly and relaxed.
-2 Stars for the way the bartender wanted to argue about the Bloody Mary #2 Issue.

Cloth Dish-Towel-Like Napkins: (4 Stars)
I'm a bit of a messy burger eater and these did a great job taking care of my grimey little fingers. Be warned, if you are wearing black, you'll leave with white fuzzy bits all over you.

Fries: (4 Stars)
So good!

CONS:

Bloody Mary #2 (-5 Stars)
Holy He!!, Nothing disgusts me more than taking a sip of a Bloody Mary through a straw and choking on a TON of black pepper chunks! Gross! I'm ok with some bits of horseradish and some celery salt seeds and some pepper, but c'mon, it was as if they barely "crushed" the pepper vs "grinding" it. I keep having to bring my handy napkin to my mouth to spit out the vile bits of pepper chunks.
When the server took it to the bar tender the bartender looked all peeved. I went up and he strained it using a strainer with holes large enough that small animal could have crawled through so of course the chunks were still there.
He then told me I needed to give it time to settle. I told him that I had already let it sit for 15 minutes. I mentioned how good the first one was and how it had no "chunks". He then told me, "...oh, I guess whoever mixed up this batch of mix didn't grind the pepper enough..." No sh!t Sherlock!
I decided to order a Moscow Mule instead which was nice but not what I was in the mood for.

The Burger (2 Stars)
The Burger did nothing for me
: (
I ordered the 8oz
I really wanted to enjoy the burger here but it just wasn't good enough to make me want to return.
The shredded lettuce was a big soggy let down.
The bun tasted scorched vs toasted.
The meat was very good and so were the pickles, but as a whole...not worth another trip.

I would return if I was in the neighborhood and was craving the corn dogs. I 've also heard great things about the grilled cheese.
The servers were very nice and I would return because of the service and relaxed atmosphere at lunch time.

Give it a try.
Tell me what you think.
: )

I'm constantly in search of finding the best burger in LA, and so far, 8 oz is the best! I've been to Comme Ca (voted by NY Magazine for having the best burger in LA), Umami Burger, Hamburger Habit, Oinkster, The Counter, Father's Office, The Bucket, Q-cina Green Cafe, In-N-Out, and Fatburger, and 8 oz is the winner! The 8 oz. burger w/ bel paese cheese is sooo juicy and tasty. I've been here twice so far and it never disappoints. I usually order a side of onion rings, which are oily but yummy. Their desserts aren't very good, though. Their chocolate cupcake is kinda dry and crumby.

Located on a busy section of Melrose, 8 Oz. Burger Bar is a relatively new place that I've heard a lot about.  Walking into 8 Oz., the restaurant is bigger than you would expect with bar tables/stools on the right, the bar in the center, and the dining room on the left.  There also appears to be an outdoor dining area as well.

The decor is pretty simple and barren.  So barren, it is almost like they opened the restaurant before they were actually ready.  The tables/chairs are a lot a of dark browns, and there is the occasional framed cow photo on the wall.  There is also a HDTV playing whatever sporting event is on at the time.

Besides the burgers, the menu is pretty much classic comfort food--corn dogs, deep-fried cheese curds, rice krispie treats, chocolate chip cookies, milkshakes, etc.  We forgot to order anything to start with so it was just burgers and a side.

The burgers and a side were actually pretty filling.  If you want a beer, it will run you about $15; if you only want a soda, it will run you about $12.  I had the french fries--they were good.  I also tried the truffled potato skins.  Greasy and a little too deep-fried--you could hardly taste the potato because it was deep-fried to a crisp.  But they were tasty--covered with parmesan, garlic, and parsley.  No cheese, bacon, or sour cream on top though.

The burger was good.  It came with arugula and red onion marmalade.  I added ketchup, Humboldt Fog cheese, and sunflower sprouts.  I ordered the burger medium well (I go medium rare on steaks but medium to medium well on burgers)--it was cooked to the right temperature and still juicy.  I liked the arugula and the sunflower sprouts.  I wouldn't get the Humboldt Fog again--too strong for the burger.  I didn't care for the sesame see bun either--it seemed like something from a grocery store.  I was expecting a more unique bun.  There seemed to be some nicer buns at other tables--I guess it just depends on what burger you order.

We got dessert.  There were a lot of standard choices (banana split, brownie sundae, collection of sweets for two).  We asked the waitress for a suggestion, but she didn't really have one.  We should have read that as a sign.  We ordered the sweet treats for two.  Served on a rectangular plate, it consisted of two rice krispie treats, two chocolate chip cookies, and a cup of vanilla ice cream with fresh strawberries.  It didn't look that good.

The rice krisipie treats were not good--kind of stale.  They tasted like the kind you get in the individually vacuum sealed packages at the grocery store.  The chocolate chip cookies were not fresh.  They were warm, but that was probably just the result of the kitchen throwing them back in the oven.  The cookie did not crumble like a freshly baked cookie should.  Plus, the cookies came out in less than 5 minutes--can't bake a cookie that quick.  Finally, the ice cream.  It looked like melted soft serve, and it tasted like whipped cream.  Awful.  When you are making something so simple, it has to be incredible to really stand out.  Their take though was far from incredible--it was just really bad.  Overall, this was one of the worst desserts I've had in a long time.  I would avoid ordering dessert from here again.

The service was good and quick.  The prices were also good.  I think if you skip dessert, you are going to have a decent experience here.  For me, it is a little out of my way and not really worth the long trip so I'm not sure if I will be coming back anytime soon.

I was totally craving a burger on Friday evening and my friends kindly accommodated my desires. We picked this place out based on a friendly yelper of mine having been here before and let say it didn't disappoint; not one bit.

With a variety of choices my friends spent much of the first ten minutes just narrowing down what kind of burger they wanted and then how they wanted it cooked since everything here comes made to order. What could be better? I ordered the Grass Fed burger and now realize I only want my burgers to be grass fed, the natural way of course. I added avocado to their already spruced up burger and was going to try the fired mozzarella on top but thought my stomach would hate me later.

Not only did my stomach not hate me but it jumped for joy at the delicious, juicy and almost melt in my mouth meat that was put in front of me. Something that they offer that's slightly off the wall but worth every penny is their fried pickles. They were fabulous in a weird, what is this taste in my mouth sort of way. What was even more delightful was their array of exotic drinks at their full bar. With a variety of sizes and choices of beer, liquors and mixed drinks you'll be fully quenched from start to finish.

While they were busy from the moment we arrived until after we left, and it seemed there was only one waitress where we sat, the service was pleasant and attentive. When the wrong orders were brought to our table and finally replaced with what we actually had requested to eat, the waitress profusely apologized and gave us a complimentary dessert which we happily accepted in the form of a root beer float. Yummy!

I highly recommend coming here with a group, sitting in their big plush booths and taking up everything that their good ol' American service and food has to bring.

Hello. My name is George and I eat meat. I have eaten a lot of burgers and for a restaurant that basically puts the name "burger" in its title, they better be ready to bring it.

If you're going here on a date or you're trying to be romantic or even trying to talk with the person at your table, it may not be possible depending on the time of night. I shared a small table with someone special on my birthday and the distance between us was comical and my arms are not short by any means. I actually looked at her and yelled, "Well, this is going in my review." She laughed because she knew EXACTLY what I was thinking.

I will say that the draft beer selection was excellent and both beers we had were flavorful and fully carbonated (an issue I've discovered with far too many LA bars).

I got the 8 oz. burger, which, for all intents and purposes, was "very good," but to command the price of $10 WITHOUT FRIES or SALAD, I felt the value to be a little bit off kilter. To make up for the lack of fries, we ordered the potato skins which were excellent. They didn't have Tapatio, but a special mesquite house blend hot sauce that was great.

All in all, the burger was "very good," but it is truly only worth $7.50 by itself. The ambiance is better set for a casual encounter with friends as opposed to any kind of intimate eating experience. What is clear is that the pricing is set for the Mid-City crowd that is willing to spend money on food that is so-so (same goes for the restaurant the "Village Idiot" just up the street). I WILL return here for beer though. That is for sure.

Oh yeah... the service was slow.

Definitely a new contender for top Burger in LA. Their blend of chuck, sirloin, tri-tip and short rib meat that gets it's decedent flavor from sitting in a meat locker over night that has Himalayan rock salt lined in the locker and blown over the meat all night is just AWESOME.

This really brings out the flavors of the meat in the burger, watch out FO you have a new contender in my Top Burger list.

The mini Kobe beed Corn dog were way better than i had expected and are now a must have when i visit!

Sweet Jiminy Cricket.  If there is one thing you order  there, let it be the Short Rib Grilled Cheese.  The meat was so tender, it melted in your mouth, and the oh-so-oozy cheese was SO GOOD!  Granted, I didn't have a burger, but that grilled cheese has made me a believer already.  On my next trip, I plan on having the burger/beer sampler (only $16!)...I'm so excited!  Oh, and our server (Josh? John?) was super cool as well.

I'm a fan.

More than 200 years after its conception... the hamburger is once again en vogue.  We can thank (or blame) Father's Office for this renaissance.  That having been said, I recently decided to try a few of the new haute-burger joints in town  So this is the first installment in a trilogy of reviews.... culminating with a visit to F.O. (since it's the current title-holder).

8oz burger wins a few big points over F.O.:

1. No waiting in line.  Father's Office has turned into a singles' joint for the West L.A. / Culver City area.... so it's become a scene.  They've even got a door-dude with a headset (presumably, so that he can "radio in to headquarters" about the status of the parking lot, or something equally critical).  We walked into 8oz. on the other hand, and sat down wherever we liked.  Good crowd, but not over-crowded.

2. Location Location Location.  I live in Fairfax district, so i'm happy to not schlep all the way to CC for a burger.  This obviously may not apply to others.

3. 8 oz. burger also seems like the sort of place I might go to just get a beer.  It's not as 'nice' on the inside as FO, but it's also a lot more friendly to flip-flops... which seems somehow more appropriate for a burger joint.

THE NEG'S:
1.Well sorry folks, but the burger itself didn't quite do it for me. It was a totally acceptable burger (i had the 'grassfed').  There was a lot going on in terms of flavors etc., but none of them really distinguished themselves.  There are others on the menu, so i'll prolly return and try again.  But first impression was not "WOW".  it was more like "hmmm, ok cool."

2.Price wasn't cheap.  No it wasn't expensive either.  But I think I only have enough room in my heart for one hot-shit burger joint.  So it's gonna be a "last man standing" kind of affair.  And in the end, 8oz. burger was KO'd in the first round.

The way I see it, In-n-Out should be listed in Merriam-Webster's.  Not only is it acceptable, it's excellent... possibly archetypical.  So if I'm to be unfaithful to those god-loving burger wizards, there has to be *something* about the contender that separates it from In-n-Out.  F.O. gives me that something... and so the two can co-exist peacefully in my primitive brain.

On the other hand, 8 Oz. Burger felt like a JV Father's Office.

The #8 in Asian cultures is symbolic to prosperity and luck. Unfortunately The eight in 8oz only symbolizes prosperity to the Owners because this place is a RIP-OFF and Luck because they can actually call this place a Burger Bar.

I saw this hype on Thrillist and was really excited to try it out. After MONTHS of waiting to hit this place up. Me and my girlfriend finally embarked out to Melrose to ease my Burger Lust.

Service was here and there. Atmosphere was chill. The only thing memorable about this place was the Strawberry Shake. I had some sort of Cheeseburger..yea it was THAT forgetful. My GF had the Mini "kobe" corndog. I don't know if this place got confused but Kobe means a type of Beef. NOT just some way of making things sound fancy.

Bleh. Bleh. Bleh. BleeeeeeeeeeeeeH. I'd gladly go to In-N-Out for HALF the price for a BETTER tasting burger.
