I really love 8 Limbs. I've been going to this studio for about a year, have taken both Level I and Level II classes and always really enjoy my experience.
The staff is awesome. I, of course, have a few favorites, but each staff member at the 8 Limbs West Seattle studio brings something amazing to their teaching and it truly is apparent during class. I find some bring excellent skills at helping with adjustments, some have fun infectious personalities, and others bring inventive sequences that will have you grinning throughout your practice. The environment is extremely welcoming and comfortable.
Some classes can get a little crowded, but there always seems to be just enough room. The prices are average for yoga in Seattle, and the studio definitely makes an effort to create a community with its yogis by hosting and inviting students to various events as well as creating retreat opportunities. I am easily able to come to my mat and simply practice yoga here. -

You want to get your "Om" on? Get all meditative, calm, and a really good stretch? Yoga, my friends is for you and even more so 8 Limbs Yoga is for you.
I am an active girl. I like to run, lift weights, anything that gets me nice and sweaty. Unfortunately all that work has gotten my muscles T-I-G-H-T. I used to be able to bend over and put my palms on the floor. Now I can barely get my fingertips to graze the carpet.
After contemplating taking yoga for ages I finally looked up yoga centers in my area and found 8 Limbs. Thankfully a new beginner's class was starting soon which fit into my schedule. I signed up and my journey into yoga began.
You can see a sign for 8 Limbs on California Ave SW but you can't get in that way. You have to go in through the alley and up about four flights of steps. You get a workout before you get your yoga on. The boutique is small but full of all sorts of yoga paraphernalia. You've got yoga attire, yoga books, yoga music, yoga equipment. They have it all.
The studio is just lovely. Hardwood floors, simple decorations, and comfortably heated. There is yoga equipment in the back of the room: yoga mats, blocks, belts, and tennis balls. They have everything for you already. The yoga teacher (I'm blanking on his name!) was friendly, funny, and attentive. It was a big class, about 15 to 20 students, but he made sure each student was in the proper position. I say he was funny because when we were in a difficult pose he's say "Okay, keep that for the next 5 minutes". And even more so when we used the tennis balls. As we were sitting down the teacher told us to put the tennis ball under one buttcheek. One student who hadn't heard the directions asked if we were supposed to put it in the middle. The teacher said "That's another class". Heh.
The classes were great. You moved through a variety of positions. Each class you learned new positions. I enjoyed myself.
Interested in getting into yoga? Go to 8 LImbs, get into the beginner's class, and harness your chee.Listed in: Check out the guns

I love 8 limbs yoga!! They are very welcoming, extremely knowledgeable!, and provide a calm and relaxing atmosphere for practicing yoga.
I love going here and definitely think it is worth the extra money to practice yoga the right way, rather than the quick and dirty way at a gym!

Loving the prenatal class! Feels tribal to hang out with a group of pregnanat ladies all going through the same thing. Always feel calm and relaxed after class and I enjoy the instuctors down to earth, helpful style. The class is a great part of my pregnancy expereince.

I did pre and post natal yoga here. The atmosphere and instructors don't make me feel like a jerk when I loose my balance and start waving my hands around like a bird. I feel comfortable here. Also everyone is cool with your baby crawling around while you try to find your inner balance.

I have practiced in many cities around the country, including D.C., New Orleans, L.A. I have to say that the classes at 8 Limbs in West Seattle are consistently the most moving and productive classes I have ever attended. Every time I am in town, I make the journey to 8 Limbs.

Before moving closer to another studio, I used to go to 8 Limbs on Capitol Hill way back in 2000 and loved it, although it was crowded even then.
However having moved yet again, I've recently been taking the Pre Natal yoga at the West Seattle 8 Limbs and I absolutely love it. Why?
*So far, not overly crowded (though full for sure).
*The BEST freaking bathroom/changing room (it's huge, with many sinks, a big mirror, showers, several changing stalls and a SAUNA!!!). You do have to share it with the tiny fitness center down the hall but that's not really noticeable.
*Nice waiting room and place to put your stuff during class.
*I also like that the store is small and not too in your face.
*Large well ventilated space for yoga that is simply decorated. Plus the room is quiet and there are no windows to the outside- something I prefer because then you don't hear the street noise or have to deal with hot sun streaming in while you're in headstand or whatever. Not that I do headstand while preggers but you get my meaning.
As far as the actual Pre Natal class or series goes (for those of you interested)- it's wonderful. Yes I have my prenatal yoga DVD at home but it's not the same as having someone there to adjust, to having very detailed instruction for doing poses during what can be a physically challenging time. And the DVD gets repetetive, while the class is different every week. Plus I love that it's combined with post natal so the mamas and babies are there- yeah they might get fussy but it's all part of the lesson somehow... I also love that they are somewhat spiritual without being too heavily western hindu dogmatic. The teachers I've had are both wonderful, clearly Mamas themselves but also excellent yoga instructors regardless! And the best part is being with all those other pregnant women- such a great connection and a good reminder and yardstick for where you're at and where others are as the class includes a nice round the room introduction and check-in.
The only downside is that you have to walk around to the back alley which itself is not that big of a deal, except that the alley kind of smells. Maybe a few pots of rosemary and lavender or something? Meh, they'd probably get stolen. Whatever, it's not enough to keep me away, especially as it's nobody's fault.Listed in: Westside Guide

I took the beginner series from 8 Limbs West Seattle and it was the perfect re-introduction to yoga. The instructiors made it fun and they were able make everyone feel comfortable being there no matter how much or how little yoga experience had before. The intro series was so great I'm thinking about taking it again!

What a FANTASTIC experience!!!! I've taken yoga classes at community centers years ago and always ended up with sore wrists and a complete lack of understanding as to what yoga was all about. This January I decided to take the Intro Series from Greg and he is so great. In fact, he was so great I took it twice!!!
Greg's Tuesday night intro class offered an in depth understanding of how to properly hold poses as well as gave great insight into what the practice of yoga means from a mind, body, spirit point of view. The class is appropriately challenging so you get a great workout. In addition, Greg does such an amazing job of making you feel like you've succeeded and as a non-athletic person that was very encouraging.
I would recommend this class to anybody, at any fitness level, who wants a superb base line understanding of Yoga. Namaste
