I love 8 Dumpling House. It's literally a hole in the wall down a shady alley (named Liberty Place). It's pretty close to Zuccotti Park and it across from the Subway on Maiden Lane.
According to foursquare, I have checked-in here 14 times already. I am the "mayor", but unfortunately, there is no bonus / discount for being mayor.
I have tried many items on the menu and my favorite are (not the Lunch Specials):
- A3: Wonton in Hot Sesame Sauce (Sichuan Spicy Dumplings, "Hongyou Chasou")
- A7: Roast Pork appetizer ("Charsiu / "Chasao")
- A8: Roast Duck ("Kaoya")
- A10: Sesame Cold Noodle
The place is not amazing, but its cooks are authentic and from the Mainland, and serves up non-junk Chinese food. I would not travel from afar just to come here, but would recommend eating here for lunch, if you are craving Chinese food and work in the area. FiDi is pretty devoid of decent Chinese food, sadly.
My one complaint for here is that, in the winter, it gets pretty drafty and cold whenever customers walk in & out. Try sitting away from the door.
They take credit cards here, but prefer you spend a certain minimum (about $10), but you can convince them to take your card if you're desperate.Listed in: NYC - Best of Downtown Lunch

I order Chinese food a lot, so I would say I'm a harsh critic. Dumpling House passed my expectations and will now be my go-to Chinese lunch stop.
As another poster mentioned, the first thing I noticed was how clean the kitchen looked. Their "A" rating appears to be well deserved. Unfortunately I can't say the same about many Chinese restaurants in Manhattan. This was a big plus in my book.
I ordered their lunch special - $8 for steamed shrimp with mixed veggies (they even got my no carrots request right). The shrimp were big and tasty and the veggies were fresh. Even came with a wonton soup. The brown sauce on the side was also good, not too greasy.
I highly recommend this place. It is a bit tucked away on Maiden Lane, but worth the trip. Check it out! -

So excited to have a decent Chinese place near my office that offers lunch specials. I've been infrequently going to a place down the street that only offer icky brown sauce when I order steamed food. This place has delicious garlic sauce on the side. I like that they offered steamed food for the same price as regular food and brown rice with no up-charge. I also had the hot and sour soup. It was ok just not spicy at all they definitely need to kick it up a notch.
All in all a good value for the neighborhood. This will be my new go to for Chinese food lunch at work. -

Wondering if I was ever gonna get some decent Chinese in FiDi, I decided to check out this new place after I got a flyer slipped under my door.
Like Bobbi B. said below me, great value for the lunch special. 8 bucks gets you a well portioned entree along with:
1. Brown, white, or fried rice as well as..
2. A can of soda or soup (egg drop or hot & sour)
I had some kung pao chicken and it was pretty tasty! I was especially surprised at how fresh the vegetables in the dish tasted. Solid fried rice too! I especially hate very greasy Chinese food, so I loved that there was very minimal evidence of grease in my dish.
Hot and sour soup was okay...pretty standard. I was mildly annoyed because I asked for my soup to be extra spicy and the lady on the phone must have thought I couldn't handle it because she said "it's already pretty spicy, but I'll put some extra chili sauce on the side for you" One star off because I never did get that extra chili sauce when it was delivered.
All in all, I was pretty happy given that the woman who answered the phone was very nice and explained all the ingredients in another dish I asked about (as you know, this is a rarity when calling fast food joints) and communicated very clearly. Very prompt delivery service as well, even in the pouring rain. Delivery guy was very friendly! I'll definitely order from them again. -

Not many Chinese spots around the area so decided to check it out while doing my afternoon lunch walk-about off Broadway.
Was in the mood for kung pao chicken. The veggies were good and fresh, the sauce was thick. It was your standard new york city run of the mill american chinese food kinda place. Lunch specials are all $8.
What turned me onto it though was a look past the registers into the kitchen.
You could see how new and clean everything was. I like being able to see whats going on back there, for peace of mind at least. Will have to try the dumplings next time to see if the name lives up. They had a "house dumbing sauce" on the counter which seemed interesting. -

I ordered delivery service of 8 Dumpling House today for lunch.
I ordered the Lunch special ($8 gets you an entree, choice of rice &soup or soda or water) which runs from 11AM to 4PM. I chose the General Tso's Chicken and opted for the white rice and wonton soup.
The General Tso's was decent. Hot and fresh tasting with a good amount of brown sauce and rice. It was moist and easy to bite into. The portions are just right, (for me!) with a little bit too much chicken which makes for a great late night dinner munching session and a good (you will feel full if you eat all the rice) serving of rice. The wonton soup overall was not to my liking: a bit too yellow and only two wontons were served. The broth didn't taste of much, pretty flavor-less. However the meaty part of the wonton itself was very yummy, just the right amount of bite, moistness and flavor.
All in all, I will order from them again for lunch when I crave Chinese food and can't leave the office.
Pro: Great price, and fresh tasting food which is pretty decent.
Also, the delivery guy is a sweetheart!
Tip: Order the lunch special to get the most out of your buck. -

Finally a great take out restaurant in the financial district! The food portions are large and are very tasty. I ordered the general tso's chicken and it is delicious!
While they don't have a great selection of dumplings....this def a great place to order from. -

I was really hoping this new restaurant would be delicious... unfortunately, it is not. We ordered the Sesame Cool Noodles, Hunan Seafood Platter, and Scallion Pancakes. The pancakes were bland and really oily, the Hunan seafood platter was saturated in blah sauce, and the sesame cool noodles were covered in an unappetizing thick peanut butter sauce. The Hunan platter is indicated with a pepper on the menu, but there was absolutely no hint of spiciness in the dish. Overall, the meal was very dull. My search for the perfect Chinese delivery continues... On a positive note, the vegetables were fresh, the price was low, and the delivery was really fast.

I'm a cashew chicken connoisseur and until someone was kind enough to slip this flyer underneath my door this afternoon, I have been Cashew Chickenless in NYC. I started having flashbacks of that movie Sleepless in Seattle and was about ready to call in on some radio show and profess my love for cashew chicken and talk about how much I missed it just in case some Chinese chef whose specialty just so happened to be cashew chicken was out there listening and fell in love with me because of this and then we could have ran off into the sunset together but alas, I finally found a place that can satisfy my constant cashew chicken craving. The lunch special was a great value. Good portion sizes & quality. Only $8 for your selection of entree + white, brown or fried rice + soda, water, or soup (egg drop, wonton, hot & sour). I went with the hot & sour soup and unfortunately, after trying theirs I'm still Hot & Sour Soupless in NYC but I can live with that. The pickings sure are slim in FiDi. This place is a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
