LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! If you need anything to accent your rockabilly look, this place is for you. I love all the vintage dresses, sweaters, and button up men's shirts. There's also a big selection of knick knacks and novelties and the prices you can't beat, because the quality is higher here.
This place is great for kids, men, and women. I reccommend a lot of our clients from out of town to head to this place just down the street from us. Not to mention the staff is always courteous and very helpful. They're not snobby boutique owners. That's always an A+++
This is the place to buy all sorts of retro stuff. I found a couple of bowling shirts and my daughter has found some other cool stuff for herself.
It can be a little pricey though.
Besides Ventura Boulevard, The Valley doesn't really have too many unique shopping opportunities going for it. But there's a stretch of Magnolia Boulevard near Burbank that's chock-a-block with some great stores, 8-Ball being one of them. (Also, Halloweentown!)
They have pop culture books, Aloha shirts, tiki mugs, rockabilly clothes, novelty gifts and cards, and a pretty kick-ass jewelry selection under the glass at the register. (Definitely a great place to stop for some last-minute gifts!) The stock seems to change all the time, so you'll always find something new.
One more awesome thing about this store--the artist Shag designed their promo postcards and you can pick one up for free on your way out.
Anytime I can't think of a gift to get for someone, I stop by 8 Ball. They have such a wide variety of books, toys, knick-knacks, and novelty gifts for just about anyone. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything here that doesn't fit even the most eclectic of tastes. Some of the items are kinda on the pricey side though, but it's always worth a look.
A store like no other 8 Ball brings the crazy random stuff u need off the internet into a shop. 8 ball is a store filled with gag gifts from bacon flavored floss to monkey candles. The random stuff will draw u in and allow you to have some laughs. The store has some great random greeting cards for every occasion that'll make you say wtf. If you've seen it on the internet it possibly might be here. Right next Porto's (Brazialian sandwhiches) and Quizno's if your hungry.
The things there were pretty entertaining to look at, this is the first gift shop that I actually made any purchase from too.
Good store featuring a ton of retro stuff, Shag, tiki, and awesome gifts and shoes. I've been shopping here for a number of years, since they had the smaller location, and now I order stuff online. A LOT of stuff online. I wonder if they can do my bridal registry? Prices vary. Some things are incredibly cheap, but at the other end of the spectrum some dresses and shoes can be like $100. Plus, inventory is constantly changing. I once got my best friend a pair of revolver cufflinks and i can't get them anymore (nor find them anywhere else). Things I've bought include stickers, patches, soap, bandaids, dresses, skirts, tops, a cardigan, awesome shoes, purses, and a ton of miscellaneous gift items.
I'm giving 8 Ball five stars because they carry XXL size men's clothes!!!! I'm 6'4 and 230lbs and I am not shopping at Casual Male or in JC Penny's big & tall section. I got style, yo and people to impress. I'm also giving 8 Ball five stars because they even call me when they get new shipments of XXL Steady shirts. Service like that is really rare these days.
8 Ball is also my go-to store when I have to buy presents for the important ladies in my life like my wife, sister & even my little daughters. There really is something for anyone here (if everyone had tattoos & good taste). The store is really well rounded with clothing, jewelry, shoes, books, toys & gifts.
Go to 8 Ball and support local independent business.
ANYTIME i need to buy a cute kitschy gift I come here. It's right down the street and never fails me. However, I wish they had more size smalls in stock (in their dresses) :(
I can never get my size in their dresses.
Guess I'll just have to go more often! and that's not such a bad thing. The people who work here have always been really nice and I've always had a great time shopping in here. i feel lucky to have something like this so cool, down the street from me!
This is a great fun mixed with kitschy shop to pick up a holiday or housewarming present. They have lots of kitchen gadgets, Tiki mugs, and random little things you didn't know you must possess (like the pill shaped keychain that keeps your daily supply of vitamins always within reach if like me, you can't manage to take them before leaving the house in the morning). There's also a bunch of interesting greeting cards (one of my favorites was the insane one with a rainbow and greeting "I'll see you in hell" on the front and "You heard me" on the inside), gift wrap and books focusing on Tiki culture, Fifties kitsch and illustration.
It's an overall cool shop, but one that seems practical enough to be successful and leaves you with the feeling they actually have paying customers, not the case at many more conceptual boutique stores. I certainly plan to stop in again around the holidays for some unusual presents and some giggles for myself while shopping.
This place is awesome. Sure, it's not cheap, but if you want a lower price tag go to Wal-Mart. Honestly this place is great. You won't find such an awesome little niche store in LA. that doesn't have WAY too much LA. attitude to go with it.
Simply put, this place rocks. I highly recommend it.
Is that Mr. T in your pocket or are you just happy to see me???
That's right baby!!!! It's Mr. T, fool!!!!!!
What??? Whatch you saying???? Don't Gimme No Back Talk, Sucka!!
Shut up, FOOL!!!
You know who you talkin' to! First Name Mista, Middle Name Period, Last Name T.
That's right people!!! Eight Ball is the place where I got my Mr. T talking keychain. Also known as "Mr. T in Your Pocket".
Yes, Eight Ball is one of my favorite stores. They have awesome stuff. Lots of retro merchandise. And yes... at one time they carried the Knight Rider lunch box. Oh yes, you Hoff lovers. This is the place for YOU!!!
Looking for some fuzzy dice for your ride to impress the chicks???
Eight Ball has 'em!
Pretty much, they have tons of cute novelty items that make YOUR gift, that "extra special gift."
They also have some cool clothes and shnazzy shoes!!!!
And what is super-duper cool about this place is that they have sold discount tickets to Lucha VaVoom (Google if necessary!) in the past. Call ahead of time to make sure!
If you have been to Eight Ball, you know how cool it is.
You those who haven't... I PITY THE FOOL!!!!!!!
Eight Ball has the coolest gear if you're into retro funk and popster cool Daddy-o type stuff. PVC figures for your shelves? Check. Retro books full of hot 50s pinup girls? Check. Swizzle sticks for your next cocktail party? Ch-ch-ch-check.
Plus, now that there's a Porto's in Burbank, it gives you a great excuse to stop by, shop, and then go pick up a Papaya pastry popover thing.
8 Ball is closer to me than Wacko now so I've been going there to get my silly gifts and house accessories. Their gift selection is somewhere between the selection at Urban Outfitters and Wacko. I have found the shot glasses to be 5 cents cheaper than at Wacko, so their stuff is not cheap but I guess it's pretty standard.
The clothes selection needs some help. A lot of the clothes look like they'd fit in at Hot Topic and I'm more of a Pin Up Girl Clothing fan. I would suggest a decrease in the t-shirt selection and an increase in skirts/dresses/blouses. I think they sell out of cute things really fast because whenever I wander in there's only a large and a small left of each cute thing and I am probably like most people and generally wear a medium.
I can't believe no one has posted anything about 8 Ball! This is one of my favorite places in the city to blow a paycheck! For it's small space, it sure packs a punch with 50's and 60's inspired dresses, men's and women's shirts, baby clothes, *barware* (great for the tiki fiends!), home decor, books on mid-century stuff, jewelery, stickers, and GREAT gift ideas. It especially caters to girls who can never have too many shoes or purses! 8-Ball never fails me when I only have an hour to find the perfect party dress. Wacko is fun but 8 Ball is sexy.
Go get your kitsch on!!!
I love this place! I used to work at Soap Plant on Melrose and it seemed to be the only place that carried this kind of stuff, so finally there is a place in Burbank.... Great for unusual gifts, pinup girl stuff, even baby clothes. This shop is adorable and the staff is really nice!
Any time I need a dress, this is where I go. But they don't just sell dresses and other womens clothing items here, they also sell some mens clothing items, and they sell kids clothes!!! I love rock and roll kidswear and to find some place that carries it is such a rareity. I also love their dressing room. Yes, its right there in the middle of the store, but i love the dramatic curtains.
This is also a great place to find small gifts because they are comedic yet thoughtful, and they have something for everyone.
So when you see me someplace in a dress, and you ask me where I got it, I'll most likely say, "8-Ball."
Their clothes are pretty pricey, but really cute. Crazy little kitchy accessories to fill up any and all empty shelf space you may have in your house. Their shoe selection leaves a lot to be desired, I wouldn't go there for shoes anyways.
I love the awesome tiki glasses and accessories they have, they'll make for some awesome sumertime luau's. Also, be sure to check out the jewelry case right up by the register. Goregous cigarette/id cases, amazing silver necklaces and charm bracelets and rings. I am IN LOVE with their chunky charm necklaces.
Well, I wish they'd mention here that 8ball is now on Magnolia near Atomic. Besides that, this place is the Shit. All my lovely devil gear is from here, tiki-check, boxing nun-check, velveteen pink buddha-check, all the cool items I wish I could afford - check!
Go here & you're world will rock!
I love kitsch, and this store really does a great job of picking good, quality, modern kitsch at affordable prices!
The store is packed with items, but everything is well-grouped and displays aren't cramped or crazy.
Really perfect, and as someone who frequents kitsch stores, this one had product I hadn't seen anywhere else. Their buyer is great.
I was really disappointed with this place. I read about it in Los Angeles Magazine and made the trek all the way to Burbank for one of the items featured in the magazine.
It was around a big holiday and the attendant really didn't show any interest in helping me. There were other people in the store... she didn't help them either.
I ended up buying $15 worth of stuff I really didn't need but I know the goods went over well in the gift department (I mailed 'em from the Post Office next door).
Sure, they've got some unique stuff but there are plenty of kitschy places online and in Westwood, Venice and Santa Monica that have better service than Eight Ball.
I did notice the clothing while I was there for Sven Kirsten's book signing for Tiki Modern yesterday but nobody has mentioned the other items like the bacon flavored toothpicks or the inflatable moose head.
The book section had some classics like How to Kiss from the 30's and advice on dating.. Mai Tai s were compliments of Suzy from the Tonga Hut ( A classic Tiki bar that has been there since 1959
Live music by the Martini Kings made shopping a tolerable experience for me. I even did some Christmas shopping here too for stocking stuffers that no one will be able to return because I won't tell them where I got them.
I love 8 Ball! I've gotta admit, it took me a long time to go inside since it occupies the retail space of the once iconic "Dutton's Bookstore" that was forced to close due to corporate bookstore take-overs, boo hoo. But 8 Ball is right next to my neighborhood post-office and on the way to the drugstore, so it was inevitable that I'd have to go exploring. Now whenever I'm running errands, I always have to stop in for a few jollies. If nothing else, the owner's collection of perfectly hilarious music flowing through the place just cracks me up! Too bad she can't make CD's and sell her music collections cuz she's a genius for creating an amusing atmosphere.
As for all the "stuff," this is the only store I need to find my Christmas cards and groovy gifts for my fun-loving friends. Seriously, how can you go wrong with Zombie Action Figures for the garden, Tiki lights, Skeleton bike bells, and X-mas cards with Jesus exclaiming to the little children gathered at his feet, "Happy Birthday to ME!"
And this store is Teenager Mecca! I am always a huge hit with my teenage nieces whenever I shop for them at 8 Ball. When I recently took my 15 yr. old niece in here for the first time, she wandered around saying, "I never want to leave this store!"
Have fun...
I wanted to check this place out after ordering a b-day cake at Porto's for my bro. I came in when it was open at 11 and was not greeted. Anyhow, long story short had a hello kitty wallet on hold and when I came back..the sales lady "Joey"..gave me a beat up one..not the one on hold..and when she went in the back to get the one I wanted the tags..were off...Hello I'm a customer and if you want ur business to boom then you should'nt be judging people.....Thank You...
Cool, kitschy and lots of fun. I always walk out with something, usually Tiki-related. If you see something on their site and they don't have it in the shop, they will actually call you when it gets in.
8ball is a great little shop in the heart of Burbank. There is a wide variety of fun little things to purchase. Yes they have clothing and shoes, but their selection is limited. While there isn't a huge variety of clothing, there is a wide variety off odd little nicknack's that any friend or family member would be happy to receive as a gift. I myself will be picking up a Don Ho tiki mug on my next trip. They carry a lot of fun products from brands such as Fluff, Pop Art, Tiki Ti,Shag Art, and many others. So when you're in the mood to spend some cash on a few things you really don't need but have to have- stop by 8ball. Oh, and pick up a pack of bacon flavored toothpicks while you're there.. Mmmm bacon....
I love Eight Ball! The clothes, shoes, and jewelry make my little heart swoon. There are always the best novelty items (no, that isn't a euphamism!) lying around for whatever friend I've dragged along to amuse themselves with while I try on endless amounts of clothes.
