Take a deep breath once you enter Mazzola's doors and your screwed. You came in for some bread but the smell won't let you leave without something more. Sometimes, just sometimes I allow myself to buy a cookie or two or a coffee here and they are as good as they smell. The bread (also as wonderful as it smells) comes in quite a few varieties. I love their garlic bagette. This is embedded with chopped garlic throughout the loaf... it is oh so wonderful and crispy.

We live 6 hours from the City so when we're in town, we have two goals: visit our friend in Brooklyn and pick up fresh baked chocolate croissants from Mazzola.  And that is enough for us to love this bakery.

I am currently eating the Lard Bread, and an assortment of cookies.  HopStop was wrong in telling me that it would take 28 minutes from Kensington-- Oh no-- I was there in 15 minutes-- only 4 people on line-- Awesome service, back in my house 30 seconds in the microwave and its just like out of the oven.

YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Reminds me of Canarsie when I grew up there and ate at least 1 loaf of bread from the local bakery. I have not had bread this good in years. I need to live right next to this place. I had some sort of sandwich roll and also the whole wheat bread. I cannot tell you how good it was. I really (seriously) had a dream about the bread a day after I had my piece of it.

Cheap as well. Why go to the corner store and get crappy bread when you can come here?

If I wasn't so stuffed from my Blue Sky Bakery muffin, I probably would have eaten the whole damn loaf.

My landlord clued me in to Mazzola's lard bread. A thick-but-not-too-thick small loaf with bits of sausage in it.  So addictive.  I've also gotten the sfogliatelle's, shell-shaped Italian desserts from my childhood, and they're perfect.

Lard bread. Twist bread. Ham and swiss croissants. Great service. Nice folks. And if you're walking by drunk at 2am buy a loaf out of the side door. You won't be disappointed. classic bakery with exceptional quality and taste.

Mazzola is a little hole in the wall bakery, but they make fantastic breads, muffins etc.  Its all always wonderfully fresh tasting.  I don't think I ever had something I disliked from Mazzola, but my personal favorite has to be a loaf of olive bread complimented by a little olive oil and some salt.  I can easily eat a whole loaf in a sitting in this fashion.
Interesting facts:
~They are always cooking the next day's goods in the wee small hours and this tends to make the whole intersection smell delicious, as I'm sure anyone living in the area with irregular sleep patterns will attest.
~Mazzola is the bakery in which Nicolas Cage's character worked in in the 1987 film Moonstruck.

BREAKDOWN: Mazzola olive bread + olive oil + dash of salt = possible recipe for the creation of ambrosia

if you've got a dollar in your pocket, you've got the ultimate in late-night drunk snacks: a loaf of warm bread, just out of the oven. YUM!!

Run by three generations of bakers, this corner bakery is a wonderful place to go for fresh bread or coffee. They supposedly offer hot bread hourly, and even though the loaves we bought last night weren't fresh from the oven, they were extremely fresh and delicious.

C. and I picked up the Italian bread and a loaf of ciabatta to take to a friend's cookout. Both were excellent -- and apparently a hit, as both loaves had been devoured by the time we left. The brie cheese we brought was also polished off, but it seems as though smoked gouda might not be that popular a cheese; the people hardly touched it.

I plan to return to try their other offerings. I could see this being a daily stop for area residents!

The best Italian bakery in town. Mazzola has been there forever and is the one and only place to buy fresh bread every morning. No matter what, come rain or shine, "every" morning :)) I feel blessed that I live just around the corner and don't have to freeze my tail off during winter time, because I'd shovel all the way from Queens if I had to just to grab that finger burning hot sourdough bagette for breakfast.

I am not saying these because I know Fred Mazzola in person. Swear! And he did not threaten me. Go Mazzola!
