Fast serviced chinese cuisine.

Had black bean fish and Kung pao prawn. They were all right. The staff looked nice.

I went back today and got the Kung Pao. And actually got it. And the irony is that I liked the mongolian beef I got by mistake the other day better.  Not that the kung pao was bad or anything.
But I have to say, today, service was friendly, nice, good.
I noticed a lot of people seemed to have called in their order ahead of time... good idea when you're not eating from the troughs.

The macaroni salad reminds me of an ex: initially sweet, but inconsistent, odd and not at all what I wanted.  If this represents mac salad in Hawaii, I'm glad it's not on my list of states to visit.

The BBQ chicken isn't bad and only took a few minutes to make.

Avoid steam tables everywhere, especially when the price is the same.

Boom, chickee Boom Boom---

Made to order or buffet. I chose the mongolian beef rice plate @ $6.50 including tax. They don't short you on portion here. Food was not as hot as I would have liked, borderline warmed over.  The dish was oily although the 2 cup rice serving wicked most of the slick. Flavor was quite different for the typical mongolian beef dish, unexplainably different. Service was polite and attentive. There is indoor  seating, with not much elbow room.  First come first served at the window chairs.

It was convenient...

Quick and efficient.  I've tried their black bean fish a few times, and each time, it was delicious.  However the chow fun has not been consistent;  it was soggy during my last visit.

Generous portions that I have to remind myself not to eat the entire entree.  The friendly service adds to the welcoming atmosphere.

To be brutally honest, I did not like the food here.

During tax season, our firm has our lunches catered by various places from around the Financial District/Chinatown.  One day, we got lunch from here.  I was really hungry and saw the spread from 77 in our kitchen and thought...wow, this looks really good...so I piled a bunch of everything on my plate:  mixed veggies w/ tofu, sweet and sour pork (which I thought was chicken by the looks of it), beef w/ broccoli, potstickers, chicken w/ string beans.  Well, let me tell you...everything looked way better than it tasted, except for the potstickers which were edible.

I had zero expectation for this place except for the fact I don't want to go to Focaccia 3 days in a roll and was craving some greasy spoon Chinese food (minus the meat). Surprisingly enough, there were a few vegetarian dishes that can be made to order. I opted for the Kung Pao Tofu (and asked for it to be extra spicy). The portion was generous and very flavorful (tangy and not really spicy but still good). At a price tag of $6.50 (tax inclusive), it was a decent (but probably not the healthiest) weekday lunch option in the middle of financial district. Will be back to try rest of their vegetarian repertoire.

FOOD POISONING.  A co-worker mentioned to me that he got food poisoning there shortly after they opened.  I'd already been eating lunch there, so I kept on going... but a few weeks ago, after having two chicken dishes from here, I got the worst food poisoning I'd ever had in my life.  The only food I had that day was Jamba Juice for breakfast and then lunch here...  and what made me sick was not a frozen Strawberry Whirl from Jamba Juice.  Sweats, chills, lightheadedness, diarrhea, vomiting.  I couldn't eat anything for 2 days, and it was 4 days before I was back to normal.

I feel kind of bad writing this since the staff there all seem so darned nice... but y'all should know the risks.

This place is literally right next door to my work building.  Usually I come here for a quick bite to eat of if I want Chinese food and I'm too lazy to take the 10 minute walk over to Chinatown.

They have a steam table style setup, but plenty of things on the menu that they'll cook for you right away.  I think it's a bit pricey for a steam table scooped lunch, but if you get something fresh off the wok, it's a decent price for the Financial District.

It gets pretty busy during lunch time, but I actually feel like that's the best time to go because all the food is fresh (since there's so many people getting everything).  What's an extra 5 minute wait, anyway?

So I was walking by on my lunch time walk (I normally bring a healthy lunch then walk during lunch) and as per usual I see "Dim Sum" at any but the most sketchy locale and I want something.  (It's one of my weaknesses)

I didn't have time to order anything fresh but there seemed to be pretty fresh Shui Mai on the steam table.

Me: "I'll have 2 Shui Mai"
Girl: "Thats it?"
Me: "Yep"
She gave me them in a wax paper bag...kinda weird.  Asked if I wanted soy or chili (how is that going to work with a wax paper bag and no eating implements?) I think people do not normally just order 2 Shui Mai.  I was worried for a minute until she said, "$1.50"

SWEET!  And they were pretty large (a pingpong ball and a half each) and they had tons of pieces of whole shrimp and were hot and soft (not at all dry/crispy on the outside or just above room temperature like some cheap shui mai/dim sum.) They were flavorful and very satisfying.  I munched on them all the way back to the office very happily.

So I really have no idea about them other than I had damn good shui mai for $1.50 completely spontaneously.  Which rocks.

I went to have lunch with the mister and surprise him, since we hadn't had much time together over the weekend.  No real cravings at the time, so we decided that this spot seemed as good as any.

I definitely didn't order from the steam tables.  Instead we both went for BBQ plates, if you can really call it BBQ.  I would call it teri plate, but that's just me.  I went for the mixed and he got the chicken.

I think the chicken is definitely the better bet.  The beef was just a little too fatty for me and my new diet.  Don't get me wrong, it tasted alright... fat usually does, but if I keep that up... I'll eventually turn into a complete couch potato and subsist on SPAM coated in bacon grease.

Overall, it was a pretty decent deal and it was made fresh to order.  I think I paid like $7 ish, which is totally cheap for a quick lunch.  I wouldn't want to make this a routine, but it's ok now and then.  The staff is super friendly... lots of smiles, which would make me want to return occasionally.

I am not easy to please when it comes to Chinese food, so it's a big deal when I give won tons 4 stars.  Big with tender pork and good-size pieces of shrimp.  Lost count on how many there were, but there's at least 8 - 10.  I only ate half and I'm stuffed, but it's SO good I wanted to keep on going.  The soup base is on the bland side which I absolutely love, you can add your own seasonings if you want which is the way it should be.  There's some napa cabbage and green onions.  Very refreshing and tasty.  Good job, 77!!  Two thumbs up on the won ton soup!!

The only thing I like here is their fried rice. The rest of the food is just OK. The staff was nice but not very smart. They messed up my order a couple of times and the only reason why I even come back is because my coworkers like they're mongolian beef. When I walked back to them and told them order was wrong and how they overcharged me, they just refunded me the money. No compensation for ruining my lunch hour and forcing me to walk back to them. Would've been nice if they gave me some fortune cookies, at least.

I'm only 2-3 blocks from here but i'd rather walk 6-7 blocks and go to Chinatown.

I left my building with no destination in mind, I started walking towards Lee's but luckily was distracted by the sign next door that said Hawaiian and Chinese so I thought what the hell, let's do this. Anyways I looked over the steam table and it looked decent, they had just brought out a new batch on broccoli beef and egg rolls so I asked for both and some fried rice. The portions are big and the food ok, not salty at all like most Chinese food. I will have to go back and try the Hawaiian bbq next. I also noticed the menu has dim sum items so I will have to try those too.
Note to owner:  Loco Moco on the bbq menu, not a really good name for your Spanish speaking customers.

Had lunch there today.  Large portions, decent quality, for a very reasonable price (particularly for downtown financial district).  I went there for the Hawaiian BBQ, but didn't actually see any Chicken Katsu and mac salad behind the glass, so I ended up ordering a couple Chinese dishes -- chicken curry and chicken with green beans.  Their paper menus say they have Hawaiian-style plate lunches (which I miss from my days living on Oahu), but I decided not to ask, as I figured the stuff out front was probably freshest.  I would definitely go back, when looking for a cheap, big, hot lunch.

I've never been to the actual store but we order in from our office every week. The name says Hawaiin but what they really excel in is authentic chinese greasiness. Totally satifies the hunger! I usually order their salt and pepper spareribs over rice but they also have a fine selection of spicy tofu and seafood rice combinations. Definitely one of the best chinese places in the fidi.

Standing outside the office building, I was contemplating what I should gorge on for lunch. Just then my co-worker Dickson walked out and was heading out to lunch. Since I was also on lunch he asked if I would like to join him for some quick chinese food.

Sure why not, so after walking a good three blocks we came to 77.

Its pretty much like another regular panda express type of place, you have your choice of either getting items already lined out or you can order seperately. Like mongolian chicken or beef, curry chicken etc.
If you dont feel like chinese you can also opt for the Hawaiian BBQ, which includes the loco moco, chicken katsu, ribs etc.

I ordered the chicken katsu which was pretty good. Their macaroni sald is something I was most fond of.
Dickson ordered the curry chicken. He prefers his chicken to have bones instead of pieces, but I think most people prefer to not have to pick out the bones and what not.

You can either eat in or take out, and prices are pretty good. My katsu was about 6.95 and Dicksons was about the same. So for a quick and easy lunch I could actually come here instead, service is good too. If your eating in they will bring the food to you instead of calling out your number.

I went here for the first time because I heard it was cheap, fast, and super delicious. I got Hawaiian instead of Chinese (next time I'll try the Chinese), which was only okay, but what blew me away was the service and hospitality. The main man (I think he's the owner) was so friendly and attentive and was basically running around doing everything. My dish was supposed to come with Mac Salad, but it didn't, and when I asked about it, he immediately ran (literally RAN) to the kitchen to get me a cup. He came back and told me they had run out, but to give him 2 minutes. He ran back to the kitchen and personally made a new batch of mac salad. How's that for service! And everything I heard was true. It was cheap, it was fast, and it was pretty good. Three hours later, I am still super full.

I'll definitely be going back to try the dim sum and the Chinese dishes.

Oh, also, they don't use MSG, which says a lot because their food is flavorful without having to use that crap!

I've been going to this place since it opened and watched it go through growing pains.  The owner is one of the nicest guys I know - we've changed office locations (to one much further away) and he still delivers to us every week, rain or shine.

Ordering the panda express-type menu items will give you just that - generic greasy "Chinese" food.  There are off menu items, like at most lrestaurants in Chinatown, and there are some solid regular items (black bean fish, string bean chicken, curry chicken, salt/pepper/garlic porkchops and chicken wings to name several) are always favorites with the coworkers, and their jook and wor wonton soups are excellent hangover cures.  I'm told they make their own (excellent) hot sauce as well.

There are definite misses as well - we've been customizing our weekly orders and they don't always get each item right - but generally speaking the quality of the operation outweighs this.

Legit Chinese food in FiDi, plus a side of bbq.  I'm still trying to convince him to add spam musubi.

I keep hoping and hoping that the L&L on Kearny will reopen, but since it doesn't appear to be heeding my wishes, I've started coming here to fulfill my periodic cravings for Hawaiian. The meat here is tasty and tender, and no complaints about the macaroni salad.

After I came here for the Hawaiian BBQ, I was tempted by the Chinese. I finally had some, and the verdict is mediocre. The chow mein is tasteless and gummy, my eggrolls were no longer crispy, and my Mongolian chicken was overwhelmed with sauce.

Four stars for the Hawaiian, but three for the Chinese. I'm rounding up for the nice take out boxes and the seating

Wow, I'm amazed. I looked this place up expecting it to have close to five stars and was shocked to see only three. Then I read the 1-star reviews and realized why. People! You do not come here for their sweet and sour pork or any of that Panda Express garbage, this place has incredibly AUTHENTIC Chinese food available!  Now, I do have to put some of the blame on them as some of the best stuff is not on the menu so you kind of have to know what you want or you're stuck with the yucky Americanized crap that no self-respecting Chinese person would touch with a ten-foot pole.  It seems like a lot of people here are under the impression that all you can get here is the heat-lamp stuff?? So not true, this place is all about their made-to-order dishes.

My whole office is hooked on this place ever since we discovered the chicken crispy noodles (which are not on the menu), you have to make sure to order it with light sauce or sometimes they are too soggy, but without a doubt these are some of the best Hong Kong style noodles I have ever had. Their wor wonton soup is also top notch and I always enjoy their black bean chicken.  My friend who introduced me to this place lived in HK his whole childhood and assures me that this place has the best Singaporean noodles he has ever had.  Their salt and pepper calamari is yummy too but we can't have it in the office because of the smell!  Please don't judge this place on the pre-made food because they clearly just make that stuff to try to appeal to people who aren't sure how or what to order.  Be adventurous!  Try something on their extensive menu, or if there's a dish you you've tried somewhere else before ask them if they make it because they just well might.

The trick to getting around the long wait is to order ahead of time, I've never gone there without calling in an order first and they actually recognize our office number now so they know exactly how pretty much everyone in the office likes their orders.

Oh, their breakfast is cheap, large portions and they don't use fake eggs.  Can't speak for their Hawaiian bbq because I've never personally tried it but some people in my office seem to like it.

I've only had their beef noodle soup, but it's good, it's fast, and it has a pretty good price point.  They waste too much in terms of utensils - I only need a spoon (and maybe chopsticks), but no fork or soy sauce.  Soy sauce?

Staff is friendly enough and, it seems, eager.

This is now going to be one of my regular restaurants.  I just had lunch here with one of my buddies from work, and I must say, WOW, you get surprisingly good food for a fairly cheap price ( under $7, especially in the Financial District in SF, it's a deal).

Initially, I thought the Chinese & Hawaiian BBQ combo was weird, but when I got my order, I was pleasantly surprised that the two blended very well together.  They offer free delivery for orders over $25.  My buddy and I got there early (like 11:45ish), but the place was definitely getting a bit packed with people after 12.  I recommend trying the BBQ short ribs - Yum!!!.

The staff are pretty friendly, and the place is nice and clean.  This is definitely one of the better "fast-food" Asian places I've had in a while - definitely worth trying out.

I haven't had their Hawaiian yet. I usually/normally/always get their seafood noodle soup with rice noodles or spicy spareribs and shrimps and vegetables with white rice. (I like to mix it up.) The spareribs have a kick. I don't know what it's cooked in and I see some chili seeds but these are much spicier than just a mere chili seed. YUM. The meat is also tender. They don't skip on the shrimp either. In a place like this, I expected a shrimp to be small, one of those that are only an inch or so, but their shrimps are called prawns at other places. As for the soup, it's not as heavily MSG'd as Lee's and is actually rather light.

-1 star because they get CRAZY during rushes. Between 11:45 to 1:30, it's almost a nonstop stream of customers. The longer the line, the more frantic the girls handling the register and food get. They whip back and forth like rabbits on crack. So, orders may get confused and you'll have to repeat yourself but it isn't too bad. It's actually kind of fun watching them. Like a trainwreck. But the girls are really nice. They try their best. I just want to tell a few of them to get elocution lessons. Accent + mush mouth = I don't understand!

As we stepped into this place, my friend happily declared: "Oh!  It's like a Panda Express!"  ...I prefer Panda Express.

I've been here a few times, and each visit concludes with me poking at my dish with half an appetite and a listless stare.  This is like every other Chinese place that mass-cooks and sorts their food into the requisite cubby-holes of ill-warmed chafing dishes.  Only... kind of worse.

Today I went for the sweet-and-sour chicken, hoping that at least that fast-foodish standard would be edible.  But the over-battered bits of chicken were alive with a glistening sheen of gross, and not a one of them was much above room temperature.  The chow mein?  A similarly slimy mess that could have been easily outclassed by oil-soaked Wonderbread.

Don't bother with 77 unless you've been 86ed from every other eatery in the FiDi.

For lunch, it definitely satisfies your craving if you want your basic wonton noodle soup.   I usually get the buffet and I enjoy the fresh stir fry of ho fun (wide) noodles with some buk choy and tofu.  I haven't tried all their selections because you have to be in the mood for it.  They definitely pile the food in your nice to go containers and the ladies behind the counter are eager to help.  I enjoyed their Hawaiian BBQ too but I'll stick to their chinese food.  I haven't tried their congee or dim sim yet.

I'm Yelping about their made to order food (I'm not big on steam table food ala Panda.  Not to say that it isn't good but it's not me).  Anyhoo, I've been circling this place for awhile.

Today I finally dropped in to take a look see.  Glanced at the steam table but nothing stood out for me.  I asked the owner (he is (was?) the owner of Happy Donuts down the block) if they make chow mein that was on the menu.  He said they did.

I ordered a seafood chow mein.  They gave me this huge order (in a round take out container).  Chow mein is actually pretty good (not too greasy and not too salty).  They were also generous w/ the seafood (shrimp, scallops, calamari some fish).

They are one of the very few FiDi places that do made to order chinese food.

Staff is friendly and courteous (service with a smile!).  I also got a free pop with my order.

Not bad for $7.87 (considering I get to spread this meal out into 2 lunches!).

Reasonably priced and  decently portioned. What more could you ask for in the FiDi!?!? I've had the fish, chow mein, and kung pao chicken  from their steam table. It's pretty good considering it's located in the FiDi.

I had a craving for Hot & Sour soup today since I've been feeling under the weather. The soup was served in a container that was reasonably portioned. It came out to $6.50, which isn't too bad. It definitely hit the spot!

YUM!  77 Chinese Cuisine and Hawaiian BBQ just opened last week by our office, and of course we had to try it!

The food is delicious, and in large enough portions that you will have enough for dinner if portion controlled (we didn't, and all ate everything in sight).

This place is an interesting mix of staple Chinese lunch plates and Hawaiian BBQ plates.  We all had the Hawaiian food today (Loco moco, BBQ mixed plate, BBQ chicken sandwich, etc.) so can't yet comment on the Chinese part, but the people behind the counter were all Chinese so I am sure if they can get the Hawaiian part right, the Chinese part has gotta be pretty tasty too.

The owner guy says free fountain soda for the month. :)

Oh, one of us is a preggo lady and the owner guy came by to offer her more food... it was so sweet!

Update:
We have been back many more times since.  We have now had the ready made Chinese food, the freshly made Chinese food, more Hawaiian food, and everything has been absolutely wonderful.  The owner and chefs will even make your scramble egg beef over rice the real Cantonese way (with really runny eggs) if you ask for it.

Definitely a five star experience for a lunch time find in FiDi.

Hmmm, do I feel Chinese or Hawaiian today? Yep, finally a place in the FIDI to get Chinese AND Hawaiian food. Good food and decent prices considering the area. Come after 1:00pm when the rice hungry mobs die down - you can pass the steam table and order your food fresh and made-to-order. Love the BBQ chicken plate lunch - your standard plate of chicken, 2 hunks of rice and mac salad - enough for 2 people, or 5 dieting skinny bitches, or a snack for a sumo wrestler. The beef chow fun is pretty good too. It has that oh-so-delicious burnt, smoky flavor that chow fun is supposed to have and the perfect ratio of noodles-to-beef-to-bean sprouts.

Had the sesame chicken off the steam table with chow mein today.  I thought they were pretty generous for once with the portions.  Once I brought this back to work though I found out the sesame chicken was absent of any sesame.  There was a more than ample portion but what's the point of a lackluster dish.

By FiDi lunch standards (the lowest common denominator), this is a solid spot.  Some of the one-star reviews need to check their expectations; this ain't Clement Street.  You can pick one to three already prepared items, or have what you want made to order.  I prefer the latter, especially the Mongolian Chicken.  The price is right and the service awesome.  The owner is super friendly and always good for an enthusiatic greeting.

I work at Market and 1st so this place is pretty close - been here 3 times and tried 3 different things -

first time - bbq mixed plate - not bad. chicken and beef was acceptable but the short rib was all fat. mac salad was ok and the take out container is high quality...

second time - loco moco - not good. the egg was good (hard to screw up an egg tho), but the hamburger was just weird - in terms of consistency. the gravy was lite but had flavor...

third time - bento box - best value so far - the chicken and beef are passable and you get a piece of ham and a deep fried piece of mahi mahi (would be nice if there was a broiled option)....

I've only ordered from the kitchen and never from the steam table line. If it's not a complete madhouse I only have to wait maybe 5 minutes. You could call ahead too.

The Chinese food can be hit or miss but none of it has been bad. The string bean chicken is bland but has a ton of veggies. Mongolian beef isn't nuclear but serviceable. You can always ask for stuff to be made spicy, the staff is super friendly. Chicken with black bean sauce is good, as is the chow mein. The fried rice is great. I haven't tried the Hawaiian BBQ yet because I was just so glad to find decent Chinese food.

Servings are definitely enough to have leftovers if you're not really hungry which is nice in the land of the $9 sandwich.
