It's a slightly nice break from the sub-par Asian food in the area. San Francisco is a great place for food, but for some reason working around this area I exhausted my options pretty quickly.

This place is great if you want something quick and the service was great and friendly.

Ever pass a place a million times and never go in? I did that to this place... when I was hankering for a new place, I walked right in here since I always see the place packed for lunch.  Boy am I ever glad I did!

I've been here several times since.  I don't do the hot food bar... just not my thing. I have ordered several of their dishes to go, fresh made from their menu.  The service is FAST, the folks friendly and the dishes? DELICIOUS.

My all time fave is the pan-fried noodles. How can you go wrong with both crunchy, soft noddles with gravy?!? You can't go wrong. Great place downtown for a fast, delicious lunch. Thanks!

Thanks to my mom who cooks Chinese food almost daily, I RARELY ever crave Chinese food, and when I do, it's something she doesn't cook: dim sum.

I've come here a few times because my coworker orders noodle soups from here often. I once needed noodle soup for lunch and came here to order their won ton mein. That satisfied my craving and tasted like almost all other Chinese BBQ type places that serve won ton mein. The next time I came back was because I really wanted jook, it was a foggy 55 degrees outside, and it was close to my office. I placed an order for jook w/chicken but specifically asked if the chicken was shredded (they confirmed it was), so I ordered a shredded chicken jook with NO ginger. The girl at the counter repeated my order back to me and asked if it was ok to add onions, which I said was ok. She repeated my order again: jook with shredded chicken and onions, but no ginger. YES! After returning to my desk, I noticed my jook was made with the same chicken they use for most other dishes here. That would be fine except that it's the stir-fry kind of chicken. Needless to say, it was NOT shredded. Also, they cut their ginger in strands and they were found throughout my jook. I took a fork and fished as many strands as I could out. Typically, I wouldn't really care that it came this way but she told me otherwise. Also, if I was allergic, I'd be pretty upset that my order came exactly how I asked for it NOT to. The jook itself tasted fine with a little salt added, but I was disappointed with the chicken and ginger.

My coworker, a regular here, went to order his food right after I returned to the office and he told me he mentioned this error to them. The girl at the counter told him she doesn't remember anyone ordering jook that day. Sigh.

Their jook and won ton mein taste just fine and will satisfy your craving, but it is disappointing that even if you are specific with your order, they will tell you they can honor it and just completely ignore it. Unacceptable.

I've been visiting this place for a few months now and not too impressed with the size of the portions that they serve.Almost as small as Lee's Deli or around $6.95 a pound. Not enough for my gut! Flavor is ok and service is ok too.The only reason I would recommend eating here is the service is fast.Try New Asia at the Galleria for HUGE portions and cheaper prices.

"Can  I please get two sirachas and hoisin sauce please?"

    Lady-"OK"

    She drops in one.

"Excuse me can I have 2 please?"

    Lady- "OK"

    *REPEAT*

    She doesn't drop in anything.

    *REPEAT*

"Excuse me, can I please get a container i'll just scoop my own sauce. Thank you"

    She grabs a container.

Hands me my food. I check over my stuff, container is in there--no lid. WTF????? Checks for condiments, still one siracha. OK I GIVE UP. BYE!

#23 was good and flavorful. Cheap lunch for fi-di.

They use MSG. Who doesn't now and days, currently guzzling water.

I came in here hungry. Their portions are big, but not top quality. I ordered chicken fried rice, which was bland, pot stickers, which were definitely on the dry side, salt and peppered spare ribs (should be renamed to oily and crunchy spare ribs), and barbecue chicken which was, in my opinion, way too fatty.

Needless to say, the best part of this meal was the Arizona iced tea I ordered to wash this all down with.

Umm...I'd recommend not putting "Hawaiian BBQ" in their restaurant name.  Ordered the mixed plate w/ all 3 bbq's and none of them were very good or Hawaiian tasting.  Tasted just like Chinese food.  And not stellar Chinese food either.  Mac salad was super bland.  If only I'd read some reviews before coming here, I woulda headed to L&L instead,

This place is pretty awesome.  The combo of the hot bar with food ready to go.. as well as speedy service for special order food is rad.

The Chicken Katsu is SO good.  I love it.  Good food, good service.  Get down with the double 7.

This is review of lunch from 77 Chinese Cuisine & Hawaiin BBQ.

We were walking to Chipotle to pick up lunch.  We walked by this place and just decided to give it a try.

We went for the basic pick your rice, pick your dishes combos  I had a three piece combo steamed rice.  I selected Mongolian Chicken, Sesame Chicken, and Pepper Beef.

This was all very average.  I was surprised though the Pepper Beef had enough peppers to give it some kick.   The Mongolian Chicken was ok.  The sesame chicken would could have been a bit more crispy.  The portion was large and a good value.

    http://tinyurl.com/5to...

I found the staff to be very friendly.  The service was fast.  My meal was under $10.  The ambiance is plain.  For me, it is more of a place for carry-out.

Overall, this is a place you go if you work near it, have very little time for lunch, and want a lot of food for just a few greenbacks.

I may go there again.  It is very close to my office.  However, it is not the kind of place you would walk more than a block of two for.  Because, in the FiDi, if you walked three blocks to it, you would walk by a number of places that are better.

I was pleased with this spot, very close to my work.  I was on the way to Sapphire on Sacramento and figured I'd give this one a shot.  I had the chicken fried rice with with sesame chicken and bbq chicken.  It was very good quality.  The breading was not overdone on the sesame chicken and quality of the chicken was good on both.  classy serving tray.  only negative is the food was not hot enough, or else it would be a 5.

Had the HI BBQ platter here the other day and it was pretty good.  The meats were cooked well and the rice and the salad were pretty good.  $8 wasn't too bad of a price either.  I will say that it was pretty basic.  I would have liked it if they had some kind of good sauces or something that made it a little more exciting.  Again, everything was good, but nothing too special.  Next time I go back I'd like to try some of the Chinese foods.

This might be a biased review since I ONLY order the won ton noodle soup with veggies and shrimp.

It is delicious, filling and priced just right at around 6 bucks I believe.
Friendly service, and close to the office, this is a perfect spot to have some Chinese food to go!  Get the soup!

Ordered the jook and dim sum combo which was pretty well priced for how much I got.  They made everything fresh which is great but we waited for around 20 minutes until we got our food (not so great).

The service was very friendly and we came in the morning so it was pretty empty except for the occasional walk-in.

I definitely plan to come here when I'm craving a bowl of hot and fresh jook and I also want to try the other things on their menu but a tip for myself and for others: call in your order so you don't have to wait as long!

I grabbed lunch here the other day and I can't say I was impressed. I got the spicy eggplant and sesame chicken. The spicy eggplant definitely wasn't spicy and I felt like it was just eggplant doused in sauce. The sesame chicken had the opportunity to be good, its deep fried, how can it not be? It wasn't. It was deep fried and flavorless.

    Definitely not going back.

Great noodle dishes, especially their beef chow fun and singaporean noodles.  A plus that they also serve porridge and dim sum.  It's rare to find a decent cheap Chinese place in the FiDi, so this place is definitely in the weekly lunch routine.   Average price is $7-9.

The "panda express" style food they offer is too Americanized for me, so I usually steer clear of that and order the noodle dishes from the menu.

    Super friendly staff too.

Fast food Chinese.... But where is the Hawaiian BBQ?! They didn't have any Hawaiian dishes that I noticed.

As far as the Chinese food, it was similar to Panda express except worse. Options were limited and the dishes available looked old, soggy, and unappealing.

    Ugh, such a disappointment!

Standing outside the office building, I was contemplating what I should gorge on for lunch. Just then my co-worker Dickson walked out and was heading out to lunch. Since I was also on lunch he asked if I would like to join him for some quick chinese food.

Sure why not, so after walking a good three blocks we came to 77.

Its pretty much like another regular panda express type of place, you have your choice of either getting items already lined out or you can order seperately. Like mongolian chicken or beef, curry chicken etc.
If you dont feel like chinese you can also opt for the Hawaiian BBQ, which includes the loco moco, chicken katsu, ribs etc.

I ordered the chicken katsu which was pretty good. Their macaroni sald is something I was most fond of.
Dickson ordered the curry chicken. He prefers his chicken to have bones instead of pieces, but I think most people prefer to not have to pick out the bones and what not.

You can either eat in or take out, and prices are pretty good. My katsu was about 6.95 and Dicksons was about the same. So for a quick and easy lunch I could actually come here instead, service is good too. If your eating in they will bring the food to you instead of calling out your number.

The macaroni salad reminds me of an ex: initially sweet, but inconsistent, odd and not at all what I wanted.  If this represents mac salad in Hawaii, I'm glad it's not on my list of states to visit.

The BBQ chicken isn't bad and only took a few minutes to make.

Avoid steam tables everywhere, especially when the price is the same.

Pretty good. To be fair all I've had is the chicken porridge/congee/jook from them, but sometimes that's all you need. I'm really glad I don't have to go to Chinatown for a bowl when I'm feeling rather blah and under the weather.

It comes in a plastic bowl which I think is even microwavable, but check to make sure. It's usually made exactly as I like it, with just chicken and some green onions. Occasionally there's garlic which I hate, but for the most part it's not a problem. It tastes really fresh too.

There isn't too much seating, but if you judge from the outside it's hard to tell. Most people are in and out and it can get a really good crowd. There's Chinese food to order, a Chinese buffet and Hawaiian BBQ. They've also relatively recently added breakfast, but I did not see anyone in there the day I went.

A good place to go when you want to hit the craving for some Chinese food but don't want some shady sketchy take-out place.

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Chinese food..Chinese food restaurants are never my first choice when it comes to eating out since I am of Chinese descendence.  No one can cook better than my gramma or mom!

The only thing good about this place is that they are open past most places in the financial district if you get hungry.. it is somewhat of my last resort.  I find the steam table food a bit bland and I find that, ordering from the menu, the portions are a bit chinsy.

As far as the Hawaiian bbq, I'd rather walk a few extra blocks for L&L on Kearny because their mac salad kicks ass (but not as much as Ono)!  The people are nice...

I keep hoping and hoping that the L&L on Kearny will reopen, but since it doesn't appear to be heeding my wishes, I've started coming here to fulfill my periodic cravings for Hawaiian. The meat here is tasty and tender, and no complaints about the macaroni salad.

After I came here for the Hawaiian BBQ, I was tempted by the Chinese. I finally had some, and the verdict is mediocre. The chow mein is tasteless and gummy, my eggrolls were no longer crispy, and my Mongolian chicken was overwhelmed with sauce.

Four stars for the Hawaiian, but three for the Chinese. I'm rounding up for the nice take out boxes and the seating

I was sooooo excited to have found a chinese place that has jook/rice porridge close to my work! They have a variety of jook too, chicken, pork with preserved egg, seafood and veggie. It was reasonablly priced at 5:96 and the portion was huge. Granted that it wasn';t the best jook i've ever had- Chinatown is much much better, it was still ok, a little too salty for my taste but not bad.

They also have a variety of chinese dishes(beef with broccoli, orange chicken), noodle soups (won ton noodle soups, hot and sour soups) and dimsum ( shrimp and pork dumplings, pork buns and etc. )that i can't wait to come back and try. Most dishes range from $5-$8 and that is super cheap for food in FIDI. The owners are cantonese and they are super nice!

Tip- I would order from the menu since those are made to order rather than ordering from the steam table  which is the  pre cooked food where you order like panda express style. 1 entree, 2 entree and etc.

Overall I am very happy to have more asian options that is close to my work. YAY!!!!!!

To be brutally honest, I did not like the food here.

During tax season, our firm has our lunches catered by various places from around the Financial District/Chinatown.  One day, we got lunch from here.  I was really hungry and saw the spread from 77 in our kitchen and thought...wow, this looks really good...so I piled a bunch of everything on my plate:  mixed veggies w/ tofu, sweet and sour pork (which I thought was chicken by the looks of it), beef w/ broccoli, potstickers, chicken w/ string beans.  Well, let me tell you...everything looked way better than it tasted, except for the potstickers which were edible.

I'm Yelping about their made to order food (I'm not big on steam table food ala Panda.  Not to say that it isn't good but it's not me).  Anyhoo, I've been circling this place for awhile.

Today I finally dropped in to take a look see.  Glanced at the steam table but nothing stood out for me.  I asked the owner (he is (was?) the owner of Happy Donuts down the block) if they make chow mein that was on the menu.  He said they did.

I ordered a seafood chow mein.  They gave me this huge order (in a round take out container).  Chow mein is actually pretty good (not too greasy and not too salty).  They were also generous w/ the seafood (shrimp, scallops, calamari some fish).

They are one of the very few FiDi places that do made to order chinese food.

Staff is friendly and courteous (service with a smile!).  I also got a free pop with my order.

Not bad for $7.87 (considering I get to spread this meal out into 2 lunches!).

It pains me to do this.
I've been coming here about once a week now since I discovered it. Not bc it's outstanding food, more that I'm OCD about what I eat. And at this juncture, I'm all about cheap chinese. I bring my diet-friendly lunch to work every day, but this is my once-a-week treat. So I know the staff, they know me... we get all happy and exchange pleasantries when I walk in.
But seriously, over the past few weeks, portions are getting noticeably and ever-increasingly smaller, and EVERY time they make me ask for extra hot sauce, and begrudgingly give it up. They know I want this, bc they giggle after I ask. It gets embarrassing.

This is now going to be one of my regular restaurants.  I just had lunch here with one of my buddies from work, and I must say, WOW, you get surprisingly good food for a fairly cheap price ( under $7, especially in the Financial District in SF, it's a deal).

Initially, I thought the Chinese & Hawaiian BBQ combo was weird, but when I got my order, I was pleasantly surprised that the two blended very well together.  They offer free delivery for orders over $25.  My buddy and I got there early (like 11:45ish), but the place was definitely getting a bit packed with people after 12.  I recommend trying the BBQ short ribs - Yum!!!.

The staff are pretty friendly, and the place is nice and clean.  This is definitely one of the better "fast-food" Asian places I've had in a while - definitely worth trying out.

So I was walking by on my lunch time walk (I normally bring a healthy lunch then walk during lunch) and as per usual I see "Dim Sum" at any but the most sketchy locale and I want something.  (It's one of my weaknesses)

I didn't have time to order anything fresh but there seemed to be pretty fresh Shui Mai on the steam table.

Me: "I'll have 2 Shui Mai"
    Girl: "Thats it?"
    Me: "Yep"
She gave me them in a wax paper bag...kinda weird.  Asked if I wanted soy or chili (how is that going to work with a wax paper bag and no eating implements?) I think people do not normally just order 2 Shui Mai.  I was worried for a minute until she said, "$1.50"

SWEET!  And they were pretty large (a pingpong ball and a half each) and they had tons of pieces of whole shrimp and were hot and soft (not at all dry/crispy on the outside or just above room temperature like some cheap shui mai/dim sum.) They were flavorful and very satisfying.  I munched on them all the way back to the office very happily.

So I really have no idea about them other than I had damn good shui mai for $1.50 completely spontaneously.  Which rocks.

    Blech.

To the guy who called out the mac salad: I thought u were being a little high maintenance, but I just tried it and it really does suck.  It's actually sweet, like they put sugar in it.  Rest assured that no mac salad in Hawaii tastes like that.

The rest of the meal was not much better. The mahi mahi was heavily breaded, and slimy in the middle, definitely frozen beforehand. Pretty sick.  The tartar sauce they serve it with is equally sweet like the mac salad.  The rice was edible, but dry and didn't stick together. It also comes with "tofu soup" which is gelatinous and semitanslucent.  My friend said he could taste the MSG, which for him was a positive, but I'm gonna have to take his word for it, I wasn't going to try it.

I asked the lady for teriyaki sauce, and she looked at me in puzzlement, then brought me chopsticks.

To be fair, my friend enjoyed his mixed plate (besides the mac salad), and the Chinese food looked OK.  But this is not a place you want to go for Hawaiian BBQ.  I wish Ono Hawaiian would open one closer to the FiDi.

The owner of this restaurant is related to the owner of Happy Donuts down the street. Funny that the service and the lunch menu is so different from each other.

When craving a variety of Chinese inspired dishes, this is the place to go! You can order select items that the kitchen will cook up fresh or you can order from the steam table.

I mostly order the 3 item plus rice to go from the steam table for $8. The steam table  has over 10 different dishes ranging from vegetarian (tofu and vegetables) to meat heavy (Peking spare ribs) and mixed in between (broccoli beef).

It's fast, convenient and filling. They give you a lot of food in the to-go containers. So much that I usually split the meal into two and save the other portion or my lunch the next day.

YUM!  77 Chinese Cuisine and Hawaiian BBQ just opened last week by our office, and of course we had to try it!

The food is delicious, and in large enough portions that you will have enough for dinner if portion controlled (we didn't, and all ate everything in sight).

This place is an interesting mix of staple Chinese lunch plates and Hawaiian BBQ plates.  We all had the Hawaiian food today (Loco moco, BBQ mixed plate, BBQ chicken sandwich, etc.) so can't yet comment on the Chinese part, but the people behind the counter were all Chinese so I am sure if they can get the Hawaiian part right, the Chinese part has gotta be pretty tasty too.

The owner guy says free fountain soda for the month. :)

Oh, one of us is a preggo lady and the owner guy came by to offer her more food... it was so sweet!

    Update:
We have been back many more times since.  We have now had the ready made Chinese food, the freshly made Chinese food, more Hawaiian food, and everything has been absolutely wonderful.  The owner and chefs will even make your scramble egg beef over rice the real Cantonese way (with really runny eggs) if you ask for it.

Definitely a five star experience for a lunch time find in FiDi.

This place is literally right next door to my work building.  Usually I come here for a quick bite to eat of if I want Chinese food and I'm too lazy to take the 10 minute walk over to Chinatown.

They have a steam table style setup, but plenty of things on the menu that they'll cook for you right away.  I think it's a bit pricey for a steam table scooped lunch, but if you get something fresh off the wok, it's a decent price for the Financial District.

It gets pretty busy during lunch time, but I actually feel like that's the best time to go because all the food is fresh (since there's so many people getting everything).  What's an extra 5 minute wait, anyway?

I haven't had their Hawaiian yet. I usually/normally/always get their seafood noodle soup with rice noodles or spicy spareribs and shrimps and vegetables with white rice. (I like to mix it up.) The spareribs have a kick. I don't know what it's cooked in and I see some chili seeds but these are much spicier than just a mere chili seed. YUM. The meat is also tender. They don't skip on the shrimp either. In a place like this, I expected a shrimp to be small, one of those that are only an inch or so, but their shrimps are called prawns at other places. As for the soup, it's not as heavily MSG'd as Lee's and is actually rather light.

-1 star because they get CRAZY during rushes. Between 11:45 to 1:30, it's almost a nonstop stream of customers. The longer the line, the more frantic the girls handling the register and food get. They whip back and forth like rabbits on crack. So, orders may get confused and you'll have to repeat yourself but it isn't too bad. It's actually kind of fun watching them. Like a trainwreck. But the girls are really nice. They try their best. I just want to tell a few of them to get elocution lessons. Accent + mush mouth = I don't understand!

Seriously, I'm torn between one and two stars, not a dilemma that works to their advantage. I decided to be generous and bump them up from 1.5 stars. I'm no food snob, and I don't claim to have a sophisticated palette. Yet, I don't have a great deal of tolerance for cheap food that tastes even cheaper. Just because the food is cheap does not mean you're not actually paying for it a different way. I mean, if you have to spend time away from work in the restroom doing some combination of a #1, #2, and #3, like I did, arguably you're losing money...the company feels it, the client feels it and ultimately the economy feels it. It's clear 77's cheap Chinese fast food deserves some blame for the state of the economy.

Enough of my tirade and on to my qualms. All fried items I tried were greasy. The sauced items were dripping in sauce that was obviously loaded with sugar and probably MSG. This makes Panda Express look like a Michelin rated establishment.  And making Panda look good (Express, not Pablo Sandoval) is quite a feat in and of itself.  Now I have to figure out why I've spent this much time and space on this restaurant. I'm done.

I've only had their beef noodle soup, but it's good, it's fast, and it has a pretty good price point.  They waste too much in terms of utensils - I only need a spoon (and maybe chopsticks), but no fork or soy sauce.  Soy sauce?

Staff is friendly enough and, it seems, eager.

Owner - super friendly/nice (if you get to know him he'll give you free stuff)

Food- fresh and delicious (brown rice available, yay!)

Cost- a little more than an average chinese place

Variety - GREAT! Try the Hawaiian bento box..

Better to phone in your order and then pick it up later instead of waiting there...
