Stopped here en route to San Diego. I was going eastbound on Ortega Hwy, coming from downtown San Juan Capistrano, and thought I would be cute and go past the (Shell?) gas station on the west side of the freeway, and go to the 76 station on the east side of the freeway, which I thought would be less crowded.
Hah! Can you say traffic?? What I didn't consider was how many cars were coming down Ortega Hwy going west, to get on the freeway (both directions). After I got gas, it took me 20 minutes to get on the freeway.
But the station is nice and -- important point -- the bathroom is pretty clean. There was an open pump and it was nice standing in the breeze that was blowing across the road. I watched the line of cars on the other side of the street and sighed. But all things end, and I finally got back on the freeway.
If you stop here and you want to go back to the freeway (even though it's right across the street), you probably should turn right and then turn around at the next street. Otherwise it's hard to get into the line of traffic.
They have a snack shop and it was pretty well stocked.
