I like this place. I've never tasted anything so yummy than the drinks they have at this place. They're very unique, not too sweet, and yummmo. I think they all kind of taste a little like coconut so if that's not your thang, you might not like it. But I do! So let's focus on that.
The menu is fun! The names of the drinks don't really reveal what your drink might taste like. And sometimes if you ask what's in them, you'll get sarcastic answers, like rat poison & horse tranquilizers. But anything your order is gonna be tasty, I promise! And it's not smokey anymore, there's free wi-fi, the coffee isn't expensive, the music is always good, and the decor is interesting. I never thought the staff was rude. Sometimes they're a little stand-offish but never jerks that I've noticed at least. I would definitely say it helps to tip your barista!
*Incredibly sad to report that 76 Coffee is closing on April 10. Hurray to get your coconut-flavored coffee beverage!! :( -

I was on the street in Grand Rapids, I walked through the door and stepped into a coffeehouse in Amsterdam. That's what this place feels like. Crazy!
The coffee was hot, the scene was cool. Honestly, at 35 I'm probably a little too old for this scene, but just because I was a little out of place doesn't mean I can't appreciate it. -

This place is great. Fun, relaxing, nice atmosphere, reasonably priced.
The only problem is that it allows smoking. Lots of smoking. For that one reason, I take off two stars. -

I hated this place. It's smoky, I saw some sketchy behavior in the bathroom, the barista is an asshat, I had some kind of terribly sweet latte concoction (I should have known better).
I also should have known better to go back again but it was my birthday and it was sunny out and I wanted something bitter. I asked for an espresso shot. The barista smirked at me and said, "You want WHAT?". He gave me a half glass of espresso.
It was fine espresso, but if you're going to be an asshat barista you should probably know what an espresso shot is. And maybe have the right kind of cup for it. -

I will never find a coffee shop more suited to my tastes. The regulars, the drinks, the megaphone, the ashtrays...you never want to leave. It won't be your thing if you don't vibe with the smoke but if not, it's a hazy paradise.
As long as you aren't intimidated by a 6 foot 5 man staring down at you while you ponder the many drink options, you are in. The coffee selection is wonderful. All fair-trade, all delicious. With tasty beverages like the 'Osama Bin Latte' or 'The Horse You Rode in On' you will never be let down.
Bottom line, drink it, love it, never leave.Listed in: Find me running to and fro...., This my land

Hooray Morningstar! This cafe is run by some totally awesome dudes! Best coffee shop in West Michigan!
Free wifi, good drinks, and right next door to Yesterdog (for better or worse).
Hooray again! -

76 is a cozy, beaten-up coffeehouse open 24 hours a day. They've got good coffee, decent espresso drinks; and sell the beans they roast themselves ($5 for half a pound.) Posters and art hang plastered over all the walls, and generally speaking the employees have fantastic taste in music.
It's a decent place to read, study, meet-up. Busier on party nights and quieter others. College-aged customers are the largest demographic, but absolutely not exclusively so.
Update: Cigarettes much less common now the state business smoking ban has come into effect. -

This is what I like in a coffeehouse, although as I get older, the crowd seems to get more and more pretentious faux hipster. I spent alot of time at Morningstar while I was in high school and college. After my junior prom, I think we skipped out early and sat at the coffeeshop and played cards. I've taken (and given) some amazing books from the "free" bookshelf (like an antique chemistry text, which I collect because I am old and lame and a nerd). To some extent, I miss the people that used to be there... there are no "Justins" or "Jammys" or "Ryan Vans" here in Minneapolis.
I miss sitting around at 4am with a deck of cards and a pack of Djarum blacks. Kind of like I miss being 18. Except for that whole no-drinking thing.
Anyway, I have alot of fond memories at Morningstar. The graffiti on the wall is unique, and althrough the graffiti in the bathroom is not unique, it is still interesting. The staff is generally the friendly sort and are willing to make you whatver you can come up with. And they usually have a great variety of music playing as well. Its probably one of the smokiest places in GR (behind Mulligans, of course), but I think that adds to the atmosphere (literally and figuratively). Parking is also ample -- if the Hub lot and the Ethel lot (behind the chinese place and former building of Eastunes) are full, then just park at the Post office across Lake :) Tons of parking. Free parking. And not "get-your-drivers-side-mirror-ripped-off" street parking.
As with the below poster, I also miss the 75. The homeless people doomed it from the beginning (ok, or it not being such a good idea anyway), but it was closer, less busy, and had less cliqueish patrons. *sigh* -

Well, what can I really say about this place. It's hard to even review such a place. This coffee shop was pretty much home to me for 5 years of my life. The friends I made here, the experiences I've had because of that was simply priceless. There's a really great community here and there's a spot for everyone, if you can tough out the bit of cliquishness at first.
Aside from the sentimental stuff, the place is just cool. It's a little smoky for my tastes these days but it hasn't lost it's flavor. You could walk in on any time of the day or night and hear great music, new and old.
As much as my friends mock me, "That Thing That Guy Gets" is probably my favorite drink (and it's named after my friend Guy). It's just delicious and I crave them 160 miles away. Their other inventions, owed mostly to the old owner Justin and the new owners Ryan and Tim, are all pretty much awesome.
There's not enough good to say about this place. Great coffee, great people, great neighborhood, great memories. -

During college I spent a significant portion of my study time here and at least a dozen "all-nighters."
smoky smoky smoky.
I moved away and still miss the place.
One time I came here and left smelling like marijuana. I'm not sure how that happened.
I was sad when the downtown Morning Star closed; it was a hole. -

Pretty good coffee, but some people that work there tend to be douches. I know you work at a sweet coffeehouse, but you don't have to be dicks.
Always people in, and always good coffee.
A good place to sit and chill. -

This coffeehouse is one of a kind. They have any type of coffee drink you could imagine. My favorite drink is the Carmello. It tastes just like the candy bar! I swear! It is a nice place to meet with a friend over a cup of joe...and plus, its right next door to Yesterdog!
