Considering this is in the middle of no where, it's not going to get much better than this. We went a party of 10, they were friendly and quick. I ordered a giant taco that was the size of the plate. Everyone else ate walleye, the northern minnesota fish of choice, and seemed pleased with it.

Overall good expierience, and decent selection of beer. OH YA, YOU BETCHA

I went on vacation to the old family cabin this month.  I can now share with all of you the magic that is 71 Bar.  Located on Highway 71, it sits between Bemidji and Black Duck in the collection of buildings known as Turtle River.

I've been going there since I was a little kid...it's still an awesome place to eat.  That's what I call consistency.  Every Friday since at least 1986 (that's about as far back as I recall going there) they've had a special on walleye fillets. To those of you who have never experienced walleye, I'm sorry.  It's about as tasty a freshwater fish as there is.  Anyway, you can get them beer battered (as I did), with lemon pepper or pan fried.  No matter how one gets it, it's damned good.

Our server was helpful and about as "northern Minnesota" as you can get.    What I mean is that she was nice and attentive and was smiling for real.  And she had the awesome, almost Canadian accent that you can only get in that part of the country.

They have karaoke on Wednesdays according to the banner on the wall.  Oh, what I would give to have sung some karaoke there.  Well, maybe next year.

All in all, 71 Bar is impossible to describe.  So, if you happen to be in the big pine forests of Northern MN, see it for yourself.  Make sure to go on a Friday...otherwise you'll pay full price for the walleye.
