Brings back some good New York Nostalgia..
Classy boutique hotel that has a view that makes New york City looks extra gorgeous..that being said. the room itself is very modern
Highly recommended for couples on honeymoon and for friends and family visiting out of town. -

Ehhhh....I'd give this 2.5 stars, so I'm rounding to 3.
I stayed here 2 years ago. I stayed in a large, clean, well decorated room. Apparently, they remodeled. It looks like they de-modeled. The decor now looks cheesy and dated. I got put in a handicapped room, which was a pain in the ass. The door would swing open and not close for about 15 seconds. The shower had 2 shower heads, a hand held one and an overhead one. There was no way to turn on the overhead one, so I had to use the handheld one. Also, despite the bathroom being 2x larger than the closet in my mother's room, it had no counter space at all and a poor layout, with the towels almost hanging into the toilet.
I find it hard to believe they remodeled with how worn down everything was. The sink handles were rusty, the toilet was stained. Paint peeled off of the windows. Speaking of windows...my room, 707, was extremely loud. It was right across from the elevator, so that I heard loud people at all times of the night. My room overlooked park avenue so it never got quiet. I heard garbage trucks, horns, people yelling, even someone playing the bagpipes at 4am. The walls here are paper thin. The windows don't block sound. The elevators are small, slow, and old.
The location....if you like to be close to grand central, stay here. I personally wasn't a fan of this neighborhood, I found it crowded, noisy, and smelly.
The positives....I ordered a salad from room service that was quite good, it had tasty dressing and fresh lettuce. Also, the internet here is by far the fastest I've used at any hotel, and it's free. It's a little variable on the higher floors (but still good), but on the lower floors it's lightning fast. The staff here are cheerful and polite.
This hotel certainly isn't horrible. I don't think I'll stay here again though. -

I love this hotel!
When looking for a place to stay in Manhattan two things are on the top of my list. Location and price.
70 Park Avenue Hotel is just a few blocks from Grand Central for the subways. And just a short walk from Empire, Chrysler, Bryant Park and the Library, Rockefeller, Times Square and Central Park. A great midtown location!
This place gave me a really good deal because i work for an airline. I think the rate is normally just over $200 for a night. We were there from Friday to Sunday. Of course the rooms are tiny, but anyone who expects space in NYC is kidding themselves. The room was beautifully decorated and modern and really we were only there to sleep, shower and stop in to drop off anything we bought and have a little nap.
The front desk people were super friendly! We got to the hotel very early, knowing it was too early to check in, we just wanted to ask if we could leave our bags there while we wandered the neighbourhood a little. But our room was already ready and we went right up! So nice to be able to get settled, drop off our things and freshen up before heading out.
If you sign up as a Kimpton member, you get the Wi-Fi for free :)
This place would really get a 5star because of the price we paid. But i know it's not the normal rate, so considering it would normally be almost double what we paid, i'm giving 70 Park Avenue Hotel a solid 4 star. Great location, great service, ok price point.Listed in: Don't let the bedbugs bite

The staff at the Kimpton 70 Park Ave was amazing! Nicest group of people and the room was fantastic! Facing Park Ave and so centrally located! I will love to go back on my next NYC trip. Again, AMAZING staff at front desk - the best I have seen so far!!

Miami, FL
THE GOOD: the good thing about the hotel is the location. very close to grand central and the subway. very easy to get a cab if you need one. the leopard robes in the hotel were cute. the hotel was clean but the rooms were very small. my view was of a brick wall and allowed for zero light.
the hotel accommodated our early arrival. upon entering the room and turning down the sheets there was blood stains on the bedding. we spoke with the manager and they were very nice about replacing the bedding.
THE BAD: we were very happy with our stay until we arrived back home in miami and realized we had left some items in the hotel room. it has been a week since we have left the hotel and we have yet to receive the items left behind or receive an update on them. we have called the hotel 3 times, they have our belongings however they refuse to tell me how much the shipping cost will be. the manager only asks for my credit card number and says he is "not sure, maybe $80" for the fedex shipping cost. i inquired about shipping it ground, or USPS and was told that is absolutely not an option. the fact that this hotel is not willing to work with me and either A tell me the DEFINITE price of fedex shipping or B arrange an alternate ground ship method is unacceptable and terrible customer service.
i will not be staying here ever again, nor any other kimpton hotel chain. they are accommodating while you are staying there, but if you need assistance after your stay, forget it. why would they care anyway? they already have your money, and the items you left behind. -

Stayed here on St. Patty's day night. We lucked out with parking right on the street so it was a great start to the weekend. Overall observations:
- Staff very friendly
- Room wasn't quite ready but they accomodated us with another room just as fast
- Very welcoming entry - concierge desk was right there at the entrance, nice couches, 2 pitchers of iced water with lime/oranges
Room:
My biggest negative about the room was the decor and rug/carpet. For being a pet friendly hotel, I'm surprised they have carpeting. Carpet collects so much pet dander that they have to be really efficient in cleaning the carpet after guests leave. Not crazy about carpet in the room - always felt like I was stepping on dirty carpet (it was clean I might add). Also, the decor is just not my style. Other than that, nice layout, nice bathroom (water pressure wasn't great), and besides, we weren't in the room very much.
Had room service sliders and they were fantastic!
Overall, nice ambience, attentive staff, but get rid of the carpets! -

We found a great deal on Jetsetter that knocked the price down to affordable, compared to most hotels in Manhattan. We knew we didn't want to stay in a chain, but were pleasantly surprised at just how lovely 70 Park really was.
The decor was chic and comfortable - we both fell in love with a high-backed chair in the corner and declared we will buy one just like it one day. The bed was also great to collapse on after a long day of walking.
Location-wise, the hotel was great. Four blocks from grand central made it easy to get to the subways, but its location on the East side made it great to walk to Rockefeller Center, Central Park, along Fifth Avenue, the MoMa, Empire State Building, and more.
Staff were super friendly and directed us to a local bagel shop when we were hungry and missing authentic bagels and cream cheese. There were also yummy gummy bears in the room - overpriced of course, but worth the convenience for our laziness.
Would definitely stay here again if the prices were right! -

Review from Mister O.
First ended up here in 2010 because of a hotwire deal. Got better-than-average service for a hotwire customer, so decided to book there again, when last weekend's plans needed me to be meeting friends at Grand Central a lot.
This is a boutique hotel with a small b. They don't play up the pimp glitz like Kimpton's other property I've tried (and liked), Ink48; instead, I get the feeling that this house is catering to an older, more serious, more sedate clientele. They do this by trying to be the best damned Holiday Inn on earth, and as far as I'm concerned, they're succeeding.
What you get, staying here, is a fairly transparent environment. Unremarkable architecture, sober modern furnishings, muted colors. You also get an environment in which everything works and not much makes you angry. The elevators both run, and quickly; there's sufficient water pressure to shower with on the 14th floor; there's enough room in the loos to set out your shaving kit and hang your towels; the AC can be disabled completely and the windows do open; and the walls are thick enough that I never heard a neighbor unless I was standing next to my door. They even have normal coat hangers in the dresser, so you can hang your rain-soaked coats to drip dry on the shower curtain rod, if need be. Lastly, the oddly-sited but spotlessly-kept lobby restrooms are very good for a quick change of socks and a facewipe, either on early arrival when your room's not ready and you feel like a big ball of sweat after having dragged your vintage Vuitton steamer trunk from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, or on late departure after having stashed your bag for the day while you rolled in mud with ballerinas in Bryant Park all afternoon. Spacious, clean lobby restrooms are honestly a pretty big draw for me.
So, yeah, everything's clean and it works. But this place earns and retains its boutique status via the behavior of its staff. Every single person I dealt with was uniformly courteous, professional, and can-do you-betcha, without a single fake corporate smile or machine-made greeting in evidence. Every one of my silly little requests was a pleasure to them.
"Could I ask you to break this hundred for me?"
"Of course, sir. How would you like that?"
"Two twenties, five sixes, twenty dollars in uncirculated twos, and ten bucks in Maria Theresa silver thalers."
"No problem. Stacey here will entertain you with finger-puppets while I get the silver from the assistant manager's cussbox."
I also got exactly what I wanted in room location, both trips. (Street view, as far from the elevators as possible.) They clearly pay attention, though I'm certain they give priorty to Kimpton In-touch members. I signed up right after I booked my first stay, and don't regret it. Gets you free WiFi, at the very least.
My *only* gripe was the way the bed was made up when I got there, and it was honestly more amusing than distressing. Housekeeping must be hiring people straight out of the Russian prison system, because the duvet on my bed wasn't in a cover. Instead, it was simply sandwiched between two crisp flat sheets. The bed was tucked so tightly, though, that I didn't notice climbing in, and I only realised it the next morning, awaking in a chaos of tightly-wound white cloth. Dreamed that someone was trying to fake a shroud of Turin using me as a dressmaker's dummy.
I really can't complain about anything else, though. Overall, this place is a superb choice for a drama-free, slightly higher-end stay, especially if you want or need to be within four blocks of Grand Central. I'm pretty sure I'll be back there at some point. -

Wonderful hotel. This was our choice as it was central to the places we wanted to go. The Murray Hill area is so nice and relaxing and you only have to walk a few minutes to get to the busy parts of Manhattan. This was my first trip to NYC and the whole experience made me long to come back.
The only thing I found troublesome is the large hold they put on your credit card when you check-in. Make sure you have way more room on your card than you need. Other than that, no complaints. The wine hour is wonderful and the jars of citrus and cucumber water were well needed. -

We stayed at this adorable hotel a couple of months ago and loved everything about it! Would definitely stay here again next time we visit NYC. The service and accommodations are excellent!
Our room was very cute and comfortable. It was on the small side, but that it typical of NYC hotels. The lobby area is stylishly decorated and always has fresh iced water with orange or cucumber slices in it. Also, they are a pet-friendly hotel! You can bring your dog along for no extra charge. They even have water bowls and doggie treats in the lobby.
Location is perfect! Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops/bakeries are within walking distance. It is also really close to Grand Central Station which makes getting around Manhattan pretty easy and saves a lot of money on cab fare. -

Honolulu, HI
If you're looking for convenience, outstanding service, and simple elegance all at an affordable price, 70 Park Avenue Hotel is for you.
When we arrived, two (not one) bellmen immediately greeted our cab. As most typical young families traveling with small children, we packed way too much stuff - 6 bags, two of which were over 50lbs, plus a stroller. These bellmen unloaded the cab and swept our belongings straight to our room. The only thing I carried into the hotel was my half-eaten bagel.
Once inside the hotel, it reminded me of a large sunken living room. The lobby area was pretty small, very common I guess, for New York. Although quaint, it was very comfortable - complete with oversized couches, magazines and a small area just big enough for my 18 mo daughter to release pent up energy after the 2 hr flight from DC.
Our room was very tiny - I would estimate about 10' x 20'. It was just large enough for all of our bags on one side of the full-sized bed, with enough room on the other to move in and out. This was OK, as we planned not to spend much time inside. Overall, although small, I thought the room was comfortable due to the floor plan and relatively compact furniture. The 42" LCD was nice as well as the mini fridge which was perfect for storing my daughter's snacks and milk to satisfy her nightly midnight cravings. The free wireless Internet was a nice plus too (requires signing up for Kimpton membership)
The hotel staff was outstanding. The bellmen made a great first impression, and it didn't end there. Our concierge and the rest of the staff greeted us every morning and offered the best suggestions for daily activities and answered every question we had. We had no problem walking to popular attractions such as 30 Rock, Times square, 5th Ave, and Grand Central. Another plus was the Starbucks right across the street.
Overall, I would stay here again. For the price, you can't beat the location and service. -

San Diego, CA
The staff was inviting and nice. They were also really willing to help with whatever we needed. I loved the location too. At first I didn't realize it, but when I realized Grand Central Station was right next to it, I couldn't be happier. Me and my girlfriend took the subway everywhere once we found out how to use it.
The room was excellent. It was pretty spacious and everything was comfy. I also like the dim lighting feature where we could dim all the lights. My only problem with this is that a few of the amenities are missing. There is no ice machine on the floor I was on (2nd). Also there wasn't staircase either from what I saw. I had to use the elevator everytime. Even though it was pretty quick, on checkout days it took a long time and it was full of people. Also, the mini bar fridge was broken and we had to calls someone in to fix it.
And worst of all was the thermostat. I "auto" set the thermostat to 60 and left the room. When i got back the gauge said it was 85. I know in the wintertime in NY it gets pretty cold, but not enough to warrant that kind of heat. I like the room to be on the slightly chilly side. When I called the front desk they said that they don't use the air conditioning in winter (which makes sense), but there was no way to regulate the temperature other than turning on the heater than turning it off. It didn't keep the temperature automatically. -

Stayed here on a business trip, and can't rave about it enough.
Stylish, sparkling clean rooms.
Helpful, super friendly staff.
Free wine hours in the afternoon.
Giant jars of citrus water in the lobby for parched patrons.
Horribly tempting honor bar.
You won't go wrong in this joint. Especially if someone else is paying. -
Review from Jeremy S.
This time I was paying $290/night. The room was great, bed comfy, and continental breakfast included. My rating downgrade is due to a couple interactions I had with hotel management...
One night I had noise issues with the neighboring room around 1am (weeknight). I called down and spoke with the manager who said he'd be right on it, I waited, nothing happened. I called again, he said the security guy was busy but would get right to it. I waited, nothing happened. I called again, same drill, I told him to call me back after he dealt with it and he agreed to follow up. I waited, nothing happened. After 45 minutes my neighbors finally shut up, I went to sleep. Obviously the hotel manager was hoping they'd eventually get to bed and I'd stop calling, guess it worked.
The last day of my stay I called down to ask for a late checkout, I again had to speak to the manager (believe it was the same guy). Now remember I'm on the last day of an 8 night stay, I ask for a 2pm checkout and get denied, 1pm is the max I'm informed. While it's not a huge deal, it seemed a little petty not to grant me that extra hour.
Unlikely I'll stay here next time, I'll go back to experimenting with the other hotels in the area to see if I can find a new favorite home away from home.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Angie M.
I traveled to New York with a friend of mine and she had already selected the hotel. I couldn't have been happier. For a first timer in New York, I felt incredibly spoiled. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.
I'm not a big drinker but it is nice to see hotels that even offer a complimentary wine. The rooms were of adequate size and the beds are what really gave this hotel it's high rating! The second I climbed in, I knocked right out!
The only reason why I did not give this 5 stars was...you have to request a coffee maker, which would have been fine but we did request one the second we checked in and they never brought one up to the room, when we called down the next morning for one, they told us they were all out. Though they were more then accommodating and went out of their way to make sure they could find another solution.
Also, the elevators are very small, not to mention they only had one working.
The location is perfect, right by Grand Central Station. Right by 5th avenue and with less of the crowd! This is going to be my go to Hotel from now on. -

I stay in a lot of hotels. A lot. I travel for my job, and when you're on the road, you need a "home away from home."
70 Park is my home away from home. The decor is fabulous. The staff is wonderful (they always "welcome" me back). The amenities are fabulous.
If you stay in NY a lot (and I do), the "cool" factor of staying in one of the hip, happening, crowded hotels gets old when you're tired after a long day at work, and the last thing you want is to be sitting next to a tourist from Des Moines at the end of the night who is trying to relive "Sex and the City" by sipping on a cosmo. I like 70 Park because the bar is great. After a long day I can kick off my shoes, have a cocktail, eat a good meal and go to bed in a quiet neighborhood. If I want to go out with friends, I can go to the party... the party doesn't need to come to me. -

We had an excellent stay at 70 Park. My husband had called for our reservation, and when we arrived to check in, they didn't have one for us...well, it turned out that the person he scheduled with started our stay one day late. Luckily they had rooms available, and we were able to upgrade to a king instead of two doubles!
The location of this hotel is great, within walking distance of many sights, restaurants, and shopping. It's also near the many subway stops at Grand Central. The room was surprisingly big and we could see the Empire State Building from the window. The only thing I did not like about the room was that for some reason the bathroom was 20 degrees cooler than the bedroom...kind of strange.
The lobby is nice to hang out in, especially during the free wine hour from 5-6. Wireless internet is free if you sign up with Kimpton. I'd definitely recommend this place, and would seriously consider staying here again on my next trip to NYC. -
Review from laurie c.
Better than average boutique hotel and they are creative with the small rooms! The decor is modern and staff is friendly. They are not the most expensive either, which is nice. You can get free internet access and perhaps a little higher room (we were on 16 out of 17 floors) if you belong to their frequent stay program.
This hotel is about an hour + during rush hour from JFK in a cab. It was pretty easy to walk to restaurants and shopping and even Central Park. I liked the location, we stayed for the marathon so we'll shout back after that's over to see how chill this place becomes after 26.2. Perhaps we'll have to add another star?! If they only had bigger than a queen bed, that would be awesome!Listed in: How to run a 3:17 NY Marathon

Four stars for a location that is convenient and quiet with spacious rooms, boutique style, a great shower and a very comfortable bed. If you have stayed in a Kimpton Hotel, these are minimum requirements!
I will say that there are a lot of lights in the room. And everything was plugged in all over the place- it was somewhat energy wasteful, especially since Kimpton is so socially responsible with the eco-friendly rooms. I'm all for the nice lighting but I did not think that all the big lightbulbs and various lamps were really necessary!Listed in: Hotels in NYC

Review from Kelley B.
I can not say enough about the professionalism, helpfulness, and overall coolness of the staff ! Who knew in my old neighborhood there was this cozy little hideaway hotel. The decor is an upscale shabby chic with all the amenities. The hotel is the smallest Kimpton room-wise I have stayed in, but for NY and a space in Murray Hill instead of the craziness of Midtown/UES, it was perfect. King deluxe was plenty of room for two, but the King Premier was worth the upgrade for the extra closet & bathroom space.
Best - Concierge and staff that cater to anything and everything you need, free WIFI, wine reception, stylish decor, great bar downstairs. Oh and I forgot my curling iron right before going out on Sat, and the staff not only brought me up one just like mine at home, but also a seam-ripper to cut the tag out of my newly acquired dress for the night. My weird, needy requests...yeah they got those too!
Only minus - No 24hr room service/drinks...I guess 5am was time to pack it in anyway though, right :) -
Review from Cheryl L.
My BFF and I stayed here a few months ago during our girl's weekend away. I live in San Diego and she lives in Boston...so picking a hotel was kind of nerve wracking! She found a few different boutique hotels to choose from, and we decided on 70 Park Avenue. I am SO glad we chose this hotel!!
I arrived to the hotel totally exhausted after not being able to sleep on my red-eye flight. It's not everyday your hotel guests stroll into the hotel at 5am! The hotel was booked solid so our room wasn't ready, so they let me 'wait' on the couches for my BFF to arrive. 'Wait' = sleep. But I wasn't allowed to lay down, so I slept sitting up on the couch. Thanks 70 Park Ave for letting me get some shut eye on your couch...facing the window to the street! Hopefully I didn't scare any possible guests away! =) Anyhoo, the hotel allowed both of us to check in our bags while we went off to do our thing.
I was very impressed by the level of service we received from the hotel staff, particularly the concierge, Chris. Being the indecisive girls that we are, we relied on him for breakfast places and dinner places. He really steered us in the right direction for yummy food!! By the end of our stay, he knew exactly who we were and expected our daily stop to his desk. =) Chris really went above and beyond, taking my number and confirming reservations he made for us while we were out and about. He also recommended a car service for me when I needed to set up transportation for a future trip to the city.
Our fave part of the hotel was the cucumber water in the lobby. We would seriously be double fisting water cups back to our room!! Along with the yummy, fresh water, there was also a wine reception in the afternoon. SWEET!
I really loved this hotel. The room was great and modern, the location was great and central, and the staff is really outgoing. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! -

Washington, DC
I caught the 7 to Grand Central and walked four blocks down Park Avenue to my hotel. I checked in, got my keycard and went up to the 16th floor and I was in awe! I had a deluxe king room with a huge comfy bed, mini bar filled with booze and candy, and a rather spiffy crappiér hidden behind a sliding mirror (que mysterioso!).
After I unpacked all my things and flopped on the bed long enough to update my facebook status, I proceeded to scramble around like Annie in Daddy Warbucks' mansion all the while snapping pictures like a fiend 'cause the folks at home would never believe this!
After I was all tired out and spent from running around my room like a dog chasing it's tail in a kennel, I eventually passed out!
The staff was super friendly and accomodating when I freaked out about Bank of America processing the hold on my account as though the money was taken out. They even went as far as to offer to take a check and give me the cash. How thoughtful are they? They also gave me a room perfectly in line with my requests: high floor, far away from the elevator. They were very prompt about bringing my bucket of ice to pre-game for the wedding, too. On top of that, there's free wine EVERY day at 5. *Huge Smile* I also stopped into the bar at the Silver Leaf and had a pretty good drink.
I'll definitely return, but the next trip is already booked at the Ink48. They also have great deals through the Kimpton site and the Kimpton Insiders program. -
Review from Adam W.
Another Kimpton gem. As previous reviewers have noted, the rooms are small, but are also well appointed. Our room had a decent view, and the noise level was Just Fine. As is common at Kimpton properties, staff are professional, friendly and "can-do." I view the location as a plus: the neighborhood is quiet and also quite convenient. I never had a problem getting a cab (the doorman had a way of snagging them), but usually just walked up to Grand Central and grabbed the subway.
Nice touch: iced water with lime and lemon slices for those hot NYC summer days. In the afternoons, fixings for make your own Arnie Palmers were laid out.
I'm docking a star for the substandard on-site food options (reviewed separately). -

70 Park is an exquisite hotel which lives up to the Kimpton Hotel family name. The room was smaller than I had hoped, but the comfortable bed and warm robe made up for the lack of space. The full bath with L'occitane products reminded me that I deserve the best.
The hotel service was top notch, friendly helpful and discreet... Breakfast in bed was a treat and I can't wait to go back. -

Concierge service, as always, was impeccable...too bad we departed and returned at times so inconvenient the concierge wasn't actually in-house...no matter, I took care of reservations and car service before even arriving. The hotel staff in general is very pleasant and helpful.
The hotel is smaller and dingier but totally expected for NYC. Our room had quite possibly the smallest hotel bathroom I've ever, ever seen - I've seen Red Roof Inn rooms with more spacious abodes for their commodes. Furnishings are typical Kimpton. Did not like the bathroom fixtures - soap dish looked straight outta Target's One-Spot - but the L'Occitane as always is readily available for using and poaching. -

Just returned from an event at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan and stayed at 70 Park. Just a couple blocks away, great price (Low $200s) and I love Kimpton properties. They just smell like Kimpton when you walk in the lobby.
The room and bathroom were small-ish (not much more than a bed, a desk, and enough room for a shower/tub combo, toilet & sink), but neat and clean with a comfy bed and the staff very pleasant. The desk was functional for the light work I had to do while there. This property doesn't have the flair some Kimptons have, but it had understated style and I would stay there again. I didn't have the opportunity to eat in the hotel restaurant; next time. Four nights went by in a flash. -

This place is cool. The room I have is actually on the biggish side for a NYC luxury hotel. I stayed at the nearby W - The Court on 39th and the 70 Park Ave beats it. The room at the W was W cool, but was small. The room in the Park 70 was larger, nicer (40" plasma is a nice addition - hell, it beats my TV at home), and large bathroom. My son stayed for a couple of days and the staff even brought in a roll away which was more comfortable than his bed at home. Plus we still had room to move about!
Highly recommend to the biz traveler or vacationer. Beats staying near Times Square where the tourists are. This place adds some style and grace to NYC. -

Very cute hotel ....in a more residential area so it has more of a New York feel and not tourists everywhere. The staff is great, however, the rooms can be a little small (even for NYC !)....would definitely stay again.

And LOCATION!!! how great to be a short walk to grand central station, bryant park, 5th ave shopping!!! I would love to stay here again! I highly recommend it!Listed in: my faves in nyc...

Stayed here with my best friend for our reunion weekend. After 9yrs living on opposite coasts, having a girls' weekend getaway once in a while is really important. We decided to meet up in NYC for a long weekend, and 70 Park Ave looked cute and decently priced . I've been to a Kimpton Hotel in Boston and liked the feel of the boutique hotel.
We both got into the city really early and hours before check-in. The room wasn't ready for early check-in, but the front desk took down my ph # so they could reach us. They of course let us check out bags in while we killed time.
The best part of our experience was probably the concierge guy, Christopher. We showed up without an itinerary, so he pretty much recommended eateries and such to us. He was soooo helpful, super friendly, and really pleasant despite us being very needy.
The room was clean, the service was great, the price is excellent for its location, and the little extras (comp wine reception, free wi-fi, and ice cold cucumber/lemon water) made this an excellent hotel to enjoy a girls' weekend.
I would absolutely recommend 70 Park Ave, and can't wait to check out other Kimpton locations! -

Stayed here for a week on an anniversary trip over new years. The staff at the front were very friendly and informative. we arrived before check-in but they had a room available which was nice after taking a red-eye from los angeles. The room was surprisingly spacious compared to everything i had heard about new york hotels. the decor was great, very welcoming and comfortable. The bed was absolutely AMAZING, probably one of the most comfortable i have ever slept on. also, in the mornings, they have coffee and tea in the lobby for you to grab on your way out. My only complaints would be that the water pressure/temperature in the shower was lacking. Also, the heater did not seem to accomplish much.
A side note: after a long night I emptied my pockets of some loose change onto the desk and the next day room service took it as a tip. so be careful of leaving any money lying around.
I had originally given this hotel 4 stars ^^^ but then it was time to check out.. we had reserved our room on their website and was told that a 5 night stay would be $1750.. well when we were given our bill, they expected us to pay $2200. when we told them that this wasnt the original price we were given they insisted that it was correct and asked us to please pay. they were not very nice about it and didnt bother to look further into it. we had to look it up ourselves on the computer and then show them that the price we booked for was much less. they then agreed to change the price but did so with an attitude. It is safe to say that we will no longer be staying at any of the kimpton hotels. -

I definitely love the location of this hotel - it's within walking distance of just about everything: Grand Central, Koreatown, Bryant Park...
The room is probably the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in, but it's not like I'm in Texas. The bed's okay, but the room decor and comfort items, including AVEDA bath products, robes, different lighting options (love all the dimmers), and HUGE flat screen tv, make it a winner. I mean, I'm one person, right? How much room can I possibly need to just sleep in?
-1000 for having to look out my window at a brick wall, but what I do like is that I'm not on the Park Avenue side and am away from traffic.
+10,000 for free wifi - there are many places that only have it in the lobby, or you have to pay, but Kimpton does it a little differently. If you sign up for InTouch, wifi's free at their properties. It gets you points and all that jazz, as well. Tres cool. -

(Let me just qualify my four-star review by conceding I haven't spent too many nights in NYC hotels lately, so my expectations may not be properly set. The 70 Park Ave may well be almost as good as it gets; if future experience bears that out, I will be happy to update and upgrade my review.)
This is a nice, small, stylish hotel near Grand Central. I got a very good rate on their website (about $250/night including taxes) for four nights in June '09. The best thing about the hotel is the size of the room: mine was really quite large for what I expected in NYC -- a king bed plus a sitting area by the window that had a love seat and two chairs separated by a leather ottoman.
Room had a closet, separate armoire, a desk and a 40-inch flat-screen TV. Alarm clock had an iPod dock but didn't work with my iPhone. Bathroom was a bit small but totally functional. Decor is hip and modern without trying.
Room appeared very clean all week but could have used a touch more "clean room smell" that shouts "soap and other cleaning products were used here just moments ago." Instead it had a little bit of that "old NY apartment scent," like in my great-uncle's place in the Bronx. Not unpleasant -- even vaguely comforting -- but still there.
My room was on the street (Park Avenue), which made it a little loud in the morning (especially when still on West Coast time), and I could hear the folks in the room next door a few times during the week but it was mostly pretty quiet while I was there. (My room was at the end of the hall.)
The staff seemed friendly enough, though I had little interaction, and I never availed myself of the lobby amenities (computers, chairs, tables, etc.) or the famous Kimpton wine hours, as I had a pretty full schedule. The people there looked happy when I did walk through, though.
The hotel restaurant, Silverleaf Tavern, was great. It had a nice ambiance, wth various seating styles (formal tables, loungey areas, nooks for privacy). Tee menu and wine list weren't extensive but they had a nice diversity of dish types and sizes, and wines by type and price. I was pleasantly surprised with how perfectly prepared my steak frites was, and the salad was quite large and lightly dressed.
On the downside, there's no gym on site but they have a relationship with a NY Sports Club about 3 blocks away on Madison Ave.
So, to sum:
Pros:
nice, large room
good rate
nice room decor: furniture, design, flat-screen TV
free wireless
good restaurant and lounge
free wine happy hour
Cons:
small bathroom
wireless was pretty slow
no health club on site -

I stayed 3 nights at this Kimpton property on Park Avenue just 3 blocks from the famous Grand Central Station. We found this hotel thru http://Expedia.com and it was on sales and after reviewing the rooms pictures and location, we booked it with high expectations.
Location:
Excellent! Just blocks away from the Grand Central Station and subway that takes you anywhere you need to go within 15 minutes. The hotel is located in the Murray Hill and Midtown area of Manhattan, a quiet and comfortable neighborhood. It is definitely very safe to walk up and down the huge Park Avenue. The Grand Central Station vicinity also has a lot of retail and restaurants.
Room:
Our first room night was disappointing. The room we got wasn't the same room we saw on the picture posted on their website. It was definitely a smaller room and the furniture or linens weren't upgraded at all. Then after we checked out to travel up to CT and returned after a day and checked back into the hotel, the room for the 2nd and 3rd night is the same one in their picture. Bigger room, better furniture, nicer amenities. Just like the ones posted on their website. So...a little inconsistency there.
Services:
Front Desk personnel are very accommodating. We arrived at JFK at 7AM on the redeye and got to the hotel about 9AM and they were able to let us do an early check-in to our room. We've also asked about late checkout on our last day in NY, they were only able to accommodate an extra hour, but offered to store our luggage for us. The porters were all nice and friendly and handled our luggage storage efficiently and got us cabs every time.
Lobby Ambiance:
Nice, modern, comfortable. A good seating area and very lounge kind of atmosphere. They setup 2 water dispensers at the lobby near the entrance, one with lime and another with lemon, which were extremely helpful for guests to quenched their thirst after returning from the heat and humidity of NY.
Price:
Since we got the Expedia deal, it was very affordable for a boutique hotel in a good location in NYC. We paid $189 per night, which is a pretty good price for a NYC hotel. Typically hotels rooms in NYC are higher in general. We checked the hotel's website for the same room and it was definitely more.
Overall Experience:
Positive. We enjoyed our stay, and we were treated nicely by friendly and helpful employees that made our experience very enjoyable. We might return the next time if we stumble across good deals like this again. -

70 Park Avenue is the perfect home away from home in one of the greatest cities in the universe. If I could move to NY I'd probably live within 200 yards of this location. We were walking distance to 5th Street Avenue shopping, the NY Public Library, Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center, the Chrysler Building and the Grand Central Terminal. These are all walkable coming from a city girl who doesn't own a car, but since the public transportation system is so efficient I don't know if it really matters. It just feels nice to be surrounded by so many legendary places that you have heard of all of your life.
As for the hotel, it was small but I wouldn't have changed a thing about it. I have stayed in my fair share of hotels and I'd have to say that this was the smallest, but that's just the charm of NY. I loved every bit of it from the teeny bath tub to the color of the paint on the wall. Everything meshed very well together making it one of the most cozy and comfortable hotel rooms that I have ever been in. We were there for 9 nights, and as the days went by, the room started to be filled up with souvenirs, a brand new vacation wardrobe for me and random NY stuff for my scrapbook. Even with the little space and all of our new belongings, we never felt cramped.
I can't wait to go back. -

I am still in love with it! We took advantage of the pre-paid special rate and spent valentine's day weekend there. It was nice and relaxing. If you are a Kimpton member, they give you a $15 gift certificate that you use towards drinks from mini-bar. :-)
