Fast Delivery & Friendly Service, Decent Food

The owners here are so sweet and so are the ladies at the register.

I normally only come here for breakfast or for some sugar ( I have a bad sweet tooth).
Although they only take cash, there is an atm located inside.

There is also an area in the back where you can grub, but I usually take my food to go.

They offer free & fast delivery, although I'm across the street, with no minimum charge.

Came here for Taco Thursdays today and was satisfied.  They were decent tacos and in this taco-starved neighborhood was a nice change.

You have two choices, pork or chicken, and each taco is $3.50.  Toppings include (but are not listed) cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes and each taco automatically comes with cilantro and onion.  You will also be given a side of avocado-based salsa as well as spicy, chipotle-based salsa.

Tacos are served on soft corn tortillas and are monstrous in size; definitely stuffed my face and couldn't finish both tacos.

    Cash only!

What's with the 4-star-+ reviews ranting about tacos?  Is there crack in those tacos?  I'm with Daniel on this one, " It's old and dirty, half the staff is rude and unhelpful."

The place rates a "B" by the Board of Health and for good reason.  The staff are slobs.

    Just One Example:

My wife and I were out walking the dog at 7 AM on a Saturday as the staff arrive outside the store to open up.  There is a flyer in the door handle of their store.  The fake man who smiles witlessly at anyone who enters the store sees the flyer, reads it and tosses it down on the sidewalk.  One woman walks over it, looks down at it, and steps past into the store.  The third woman stops to look at the flyer, reads it and kicks it down the sidewalk with her foot.  What lazy slobs!

Really.  Store owners in the neighborhood.  Owners of a store which serves food.  And they could not care less about the neighborhood or the cleanliness of their store and surroundings.

I picked up the flyer as we passed and went to enter the store to talk to them.  They had locked the door.  One of the women, who sees me regularly, waves at the closed door, feigning an inability to open the door to speak with me.  I slid the flyer under their door.

Two minutes later, we are down the block and my wife turns around to see the fake old man out of the store, on the sidewalk, giving her the finger.

I would not spend a dime in the dump.

Is this place spectacular? uhhh no it's a deli -lets get with it people. However, as you have already probably seen the main reason most people even drop by in this place is for Taco Thursday. Now I've never had Taco Thursday. Why? you may ask..I'll tell you why cause you can't get it before 11 am and moreover they don't give any rice and beans on the side. Are you for real? Like come on, I'm cool with the Latin dudes working behind the counter (and I presume the Taco makers) and you are telling me you can't hook me up? This is blasphemy as far as I'm concerned.

This is not to say that I won't give the infamous Taco Thursday a try but as far as I'm concerned I'm good with my sandwiches, my Arizona Ice Tea and buy my Wise Potato Chips. I survive on this and this alone. None of which disappoint. My sandwiches are nice and big, so I usually split it and save one for the next day. The guys behind the counter remember my 'regular' orders even before I say it and I love the girl with the glasses the works behind the counter that rings me up. She's super sweet.

I wouldn't recommend the buffet food, it just wasn't all that. Also the 2 main downsides- this is a cash only establishment and they close at 5pm. I mean really? 5....thats like crazy for delis but whatevezz

Not much more to say than that..if I ever get around to those taco's I'll update and if they warrant a 'rave' review I just might give it.

On Sunday 7 Stars Deli is closed, and on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday it's just like any other crappy deli with sandwiches and a hot bar.  But Thursday is a whole different story!  Thursdays at 7 Stars Deli is Taco Day, and this is easily the best lunch deal in the neighborhood, if not the city.  The twittering food trucks can take a hike.

I just paid $4.35 total for two massive tacos, one chicken and one pork.  They were piled high with cilantro and onion, and served with lime chunks and green and red hot sauce on the side.  They were also served with two extra corn tortillas, and there was so much meat that I split it up into the four tortillas, which means I really just paid $4.35 total for four normal-sized tacos.  I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous.  Ridiculous and also awesome.

As a side note, what I consider testimony to how good these tacos were was the way in which my cats FREAKED OUT when I walked through the door.  I've never seen them go so nuts for the smell of people food before, and I cook chicken and fish quite a lot.  They looked like this:  http://tinyurl.com/y9d...  (and yes, those are really my cats!)

Dr. Becca renewed my faith in tacos.

Two filled-to-the-brim with juicy and flavorful roasted pork (plus diced cilantro and onion) tacos only set me back $4.35 - which just might be the best deal under the Brooklyn Bridge. The accompanying chipotle salsa is more smoky than hot, while the green tomatilla salsa is a bright citrusy kick in your face...which mama approves.

Judging from the other lunches that were being prepared, I don't doubt that 7 Stars makes great sandwiches, but I was only there for Taco Thursday.

Chronology of events leading up to my* Taco Thursday at 7 Stars Deli:

WED 8:59 am - I have never heard of 7 Stars Deli and if I had, I would not expect or even think that they might have a taco day.

WED 9:00 am - I read the RotD by Dr. Becca on some deli in DUMBO with 7 Stars attached to its name.

WED 9:01 am - Tacos!?!?!? Good tacos!!?!? At a deli in DUMBO??!?!??! An entire day devoted to tacos!?!?!

WED 9:02 am - Bookmark saved. To Try.

WED 9:05 am - Thinking about Taco Thursday...

    (time passes slowly)

THU 11:43 am - Begin the walk from the Heights to DUMBO, which is usually an easy ten minute jaunt and this time, in the name of tacos. However, it was hot as balls out and this ten minute stroll felt like a marathon...with fresh tacos at the end. I persevered.

THU 11:54 am - Walk inside an extremely non-descript DUMBO deli/bodega with shabby tables in the back and a few people waiting around. Look for a mention of tacos just to make sure this is not a big trick on people like me who actually would read an RotD and then go there, the next day. TACOS! It's not a joke.

THU 11:58 am - Receive box full of two chicken tacos, with 4.00 written on it - that stands for $4 and the box had a nice weight to it.

THU 11:59 am - Start the trek back to the Heights through the Sahara desert. On a nicer day I would have taken the tacos to the new park, but today was not a nicer day. Up the Columbia Heights hill with the wind blowing the smell of these tacos right under my nose, starting to move quicker.

THU 12:18 pm - Destroy the two extremely tasty, fresh and flavorful chicken tacos that were tucked inside a perfect double-layered tortilla with cilantro in all the right spots in between. Leave not a trace of anything food related behind in the Styrofoam box.

THU 12:21 pm - Go into short food coma.

THU 12:30 pm - Compliment Dr. Becca with my everlasting gratefulness.

THU 12:33 pm - Mark Taco Thursday as a recurring event on my Google Calendar.

THU 12:35 pm - I still have no idea what else they have at 7 Stars Deli, but I don't care because I will go here on Thursdays for the rest of my life and I will still only spend like $17 a month.

Taco Thursday is is really where it's at with this deli. Depending on the mood of the guys working, you can end up with either:
    - two: they are going to leave me hungry later tacos
    - two: gut buster, OMG how am I going to finish tacos.

(Go for the pork with red sauce.)
Sandwiches and other food items are NY average, tilting toward the good side. Go for the chicken parm if you want the real blowout! Buffet is well, you've have NYC deli buffet before. The staff is friendly, and delivery is fast. Then again, we're only a block away...

I squeeze four limes on 2 tacos, but it doesn't matter; they double-line their tortillas.  I pour on all the red sauce, but the green will neutralize it perfectly.  I pour on all the green sauce, but I'm going to lick the styrofoam clean afterward anyway.  Let it be known that I've never actually been inside 7 Stars Deli - because my saint of a friend who introduced me to Taco Thursdays always picks them up so we have time to eat while I subway over during my lunch break.  But whoever these people are who make these glorious tacos, they must be AMAZING because they have the ability to make me salivate over evil cilantro and make my friend scarf down vile raw onions.

Basically a standard NY deli, but has some highlights:

    1.  Hot foods bar is good, with a decent amount of variety. Had chow-mein with orange chicken one day, and it was pretty good. The hot foods bar, unlike the rest of the place, can get a little pricey if you're hungry.

    2. The Cheese burger deluxe meal rocks. For ~$5, you get a greasy cheeseburger (that's a good thing) with a heapload of steak fries. I'm a complete glutton, and I couldn't finish the fries. On top of being cheap, it tastes good (that's always important).

    3. Taco Thursdays behbeh! Some really good tacos, I must say. About 2 tacos being enough for a lunch -- maybe. Sort of. If you feel like eating enough to not feel hungry, sure. But if you like to eat to partially incapacitate yourself, at least go for 3. The green sauce + chicken is my fave.

    Overall, I dig.

Taco Thursday! Two excellent tacos for $5. Corn tortillas, cilantro, onion and carnitas or chicken served with some sort of chipoltle oil and a green sauce. Simple and delicious.

I avoid this place unless I NEED something I can't get elsewhere.  It's old and dirty, half the staff is rude and unhelpful (during my last purchase, the girl at the register didn't say one word to me and wouldn't make eye contact.  She just stood there with the total displayed until I gave her money).  They only accept cash, and they are way overpriced.  No thanks.  If I'm going to be overcharged I at least want a little bit of service.

5 star tacos. 3 star everything else (mediocre blah deli). But the 5 star tacos...

WOW. So I'm sitting here with the styrofoam box in front of me as I write this review. I ate one of the tacos and took 2 small bites of the other. I'm stuffed. So you will get a lot of food for your $4!

I got 1 chicken and 1 pork. The chicken was the one I ate. It was fantastic... clean, no fat or other disgusting things, seemed rather healthy minus the size of it. The pork seemed good too, but the law of diminishing marginal returns makes me say that it wasn't AS good as the chicken. So full.

The tacos come with pretty much nothing on it (which is how I like it) - cilantro, onions (I held the onions), and tomato (although they forgot the tomato on mine, but not a problem) on a double soft corn tortilla. They also give you 2 sauces. The red one is hot (YUM) and the green one is light (no mayo, thank you ). So for once I could eat the food with no modifications!

The cons of taco day... expect long lines. It does move fast, but you still have to wait. It's a little nutty in there! They do run out of ingredients, so don't go at the end of the lunch rush.
