Forget about all those crappy, totally overproduced movies that are playing at your local AMC...this film festival is a great place to see the heart and soul of passionate filmmaking. Seriously, where else can you see a scene-by-scene recreation of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" done by teenagers in the '80's playing side by side of zombie movies? Q&A's with the directors, lots of freebies (including goodies from your pals at Yelp!) and a diverse group of the usual hipster suspects sprinkled with intellectual film enthusiasts and culture vultures make for a great time.

Next year, don't be a spazz...get down to 941 Front Theater for some PBR, Moon Pies, some interesting if not perfect movies and a guaranteed interesting experience.

Such a fun festival! I had a blast maintaining the Yelp table with Carrie and getting to know all of the pierced and tattooed fest workers (especially the ones on roller skates!). The theater itself was a previously undiscovered treasure of a warehouse tucked under a highway bridge in No Libs. the inside had all kinds of B-Movie posters (Troma's Poultrygeist coming to the Roxy next month!) and memorabilia for Pabst Blue Ribbon. and they even served moon pies! they labeled it as a rock and roll film fest and they definitely weren't kidding.

Once we told enough people about Yelp Carrie and I joined Anthony P. and sat down to watch "Raiders Of The Lost Ark - The Adaptation" which was a pure classic. If you haven't heard anything about it a bunch of high schoolers spent their summers recreating Raiders during the 80's. they used real snakes, their own explosions/effects, and even a copy of the Life Magazine that appeared in the actual movies among other things. it was definitely more impressive than most of the laughable films my friends and I put together in High School.

Today marks the end of this years fest so if your reading this in time definitely try and check it out! You can't go wrong with random B-Movie's, people on roller skates telling you about films (or how to become a rollergirl/guy), Q &A's with most of the directors, and free beer! And considering that the majority of tickets are priced at $7 it puts the affordable back into cinema viewing. But if you can't make it tonight then next years should be going on in full force.
