4.5. The bread and the croissants are awesome. Super delicious. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. I enjoyed my mac and cheese, though the one at Taste is still better. I went here for bread and food on a Wednesday night. It's byo, so bring your own wine, order a cheese board and enjoy. I'm excited for the weather to get warmer because they have a nice outdoor area.
The breadbar is just a block from the Beverly Center and the Stone Rose, by the way.

This place is not for the carb-counting veggie-vegan population slowly taking over the planet: it's for people who delight in cheesiness, chewiness, and chocolate melted to perfection! I came with a group for dinner, but the attentive servers let us order off the lunch menu, so I got exactly what I wanted: a fancypants hot dog. It was a cheese-bread-encrusted hot dog that had everyone in my group salivating and (I'm sure) wishing they knew me better so that they could actually take me up on my offers to share. This was definitely a night I was happy to not have my fiance sidekick along to devour my yummy hot dog (he would have totally taken me up on the offer).
But, let's forget about the hot dog, and I'm going to try to forget about how silly-drunk I got off all of two glasses of wine (you bring your wine to this place) in front of my coworkers...the dessert finale, a giant, warm plate of bread pudding, filled with oozing pockets of chocolate (the same chocolate used in the chocolate croissants), was the dish that won us all over. I've had some good bread pudding, but this was worth yelping about. I am only sorry to have delayed so long in the follow-through. sigh. I'm hungry.

I had lunch here and while it seems like a place that consistently has a strong lunch hour crowd from business people, the place was understaffed and our server seemed not quite there.
We started out with the bread basket for two but didn't quite get the four different types of breads and three signature spreads promised on the menu.
They do have a comprehensive bread menu which I was glad for because some of the breads had honey and/or butter which I do not eat. But as my friend put it, with the name Bread Bar, you'd expect them to have some really 'wow' breads or at least a bigger selection.
I ordered the Provencal salad sans chicken and got a bit of mesclun greens on one half of the plate and 'sauteed' veggies that were drowning in oil on the other half. The curry vinaigrette that came on the side didn't taste like curry at all...just looked/tasted like strange olive oil.
I really liked the decor and it seems like a good place to come and grab a quickie lunch but as a fledgling vegan, it's not worth going out of my way for...

my friend and i celebrated a belated birthday, graduation and the start of summer by having a 3 1/2 hour lunch at bread bar. parking is a crap shoot over there so be warned. try valeting at the bare foot restaurant instead - very reasonable and saves a ton of time.
it was past 1:30 so we didn't have any problems getting a seat outside - the weather was absolutely perfect for it and traffic noises didn't disrupt our conversation. we ordered the charcuterie cheese plate and the french country salad. the breadbox had a variety of breads including one with hazel nuts and another with walnuts. the bread was okay to good. the cheeses of the day were a brie, some type of sheeps milk and an ementhal i think. all the cheese were good but it didn't taste gourmet. the charcuterie plate i usually get at nicoles in south pas is much better. the cheese also came with some pastes - fig and something else as well as pesto spread, tomato spread and butter.
the salad was actually kind of a disappointment. the cubes of brie and figs were lightly grilled but it didn't seem add anything. the problem was the salad was "deconstructed". the cheese, figs and "pecan dust" came separate but even when i combined all the ingredients, it didn't seem to go well together. the upside was their pomegranate lemonade. you could actually taste the pomegranate but it was still a lemonade. the other positive was a very attentive and genuinely nice wait staff.
I was really impressed...I read everyone of the reviews for this location on 3rd street and the other in Century City and wasn't expecting much from the Breadbar.
The club sandwich was very nicely orchestrated + the bread, oooooh, the parmesan cheese atop the crusty baguette was extraordinary!
The ahi tuna sandwich was good, it had radishes, and olives, and tuna...a tiny little bit of tuna, I would happily pay more for the sandwich if it had more tuna!, but alas, it's reasonably priced and has a "modest" serving of tuna...with an emphasis on modest!
What sold me on the joint were the sweet potato fries! I will definitly come back for more :)
On to the pastry's, apricot danishes are sooo yummy, chocolate croissants meet expectations, but the WHITE CHOCOLATE BAGUETTE! it took a bit of convincing, but it's soooo good with a cup of coffee, the chocolate melts into the doughy baguette and it tastes incredibly!
The only reason they get 4 stars is because their seats are anything but comfortable, they are high, backless stools...not too keen on that, they do however have a nice patio with nicer chairs :)

Great place to stop in and get a sandwich. I was at the hospital getting my finger booboo all fixed up and I needed some sustenance after enduring pain and suffering in the ER across the way.
It's pricey for sure, but it's a semi-gourmet sandwich. I got the Roast Beef ($12.75) with house-made roast beef, caramelized onions, lettuce, horseradish cream and garlic-ginger fries.
And of course, lots of great fresh bread to take home. I highly recommend taking home some burger buns and using them for your next BBQ.

I was looking forward to trying this place, but was a little disappointed. The food was generally quite salty, which was a little strange. I had the steak and the tuna tartar appetizer. Both were saltier than they should have been.
i was not impressed. food was just OK, portions VERY small .. a friend and i paid $45 dollars for two sandwiches the size of a baby's fist.
servers were very friendly, though.

Tired of the same-old, same-old Miracle Mile offerings (Baja Fresh, Koo Koo Roo, Johnie's, O to Go, Black Dog Cafe and Ralphs -- rinse and repeat), I was looking for something new and different. A friend suggested Breadbar and since I've been curious to try the carb-tastic joint, I grabbed my food junkie partner in crime and headed on down to 3rd Street.
Much like M Cafe de Chaya, you order at the counter and then try to grab a seat; most of the tables are communal as well. Once you're seated, though, there is some table service. We were lucky and grabbed seats rather quickly.
I ordered the Ahi Tuna sandwich. Just when I was ready to crown M Cafe de Chaya's Ahi Tuna burger the best in the land, Breadbar has emerged as a solid contender. The bread was delicious and the tuna fresh and tasty.
HIGH POINT: The bread basket was complimentary, a nice touch...um, especially considering the name of the joint. And getting a table so quickly felt like victory, given how packed the place was.
LOW POINT: It took a while to get the check. So much so, I thought perhaps we were the 100th diner and thus, our meal comped. Ooops. Not the case, just a tad slow with the service.
ALL THE POINTS IN-BETWEEN: French baker Eric Kayser is managing to turn carb fearing Angelenos into converts. The bread is top notch, as expected -- particularly the cheese bread and the hazelnut bread, which I brought home to supposedly share (but who am I kidding? I devoured all of the to-go treats single-handedly and almost immediately upon arriving home. Hey, isn't it the thought that counts...).

I've frequented this local artisanal bakery for months since I began working in Beverly Hills. I fell in love with this buttery crisp croissants and their chewy french baguette. An accompanying cafe au lait makes for a quasi-Parisian breakfast of champions without the requisite three-hour leisurely sit at a table. In fair weather, however, this makes a perfect occasion, so long as work doesn't beckon. The sun shines opposite the outdoor seating area, giving the people-watcher more of a 3rd street car-watch.
Still, the inside high-chaired seating would make a delightly weekday brunch, although I have yet to experience this.
I will say that I was one of the lucky few in the city to experience Chef Ludovic Lefebre's excellent small plates extraganza, short-lived as it was, in the days preceding last Christmas. I had a seven (or eight) course meal with two bottles of wine shared by three people. A lovely Cote Du Rhone and California Chardonnay kept us well lubricated through our gastonomic feast, provided by the charming chef himself in full view of our table.
He wrestled with that cadillac-like meat slicer to produce the thinnest, most delicious prosciutto I've had. The rest of the meal was a study in Asian-French fusion with Chez Panisse like dedication to ingredients. Wolfgang or Joachim would have been proud. Foie gras, lobster, salmon, celery veloute, etc.etc.etc.
Breadbar was a great venue for such an affair, although the crabby hostess (from corporate, the waiter told us) almost derailed a perfect evening. The whole experience was less than $45 a person (thanks to no corkage on the two bottles). Sadly, this will probably never happen again (I know I tantalized all of you). Maybe Chef Ludo will open his own temple of gastronomy (a la L'Orangerie and Bastide, his former employers).

Mmmmkay?
The Bread Bar.
I LOVE bread. It's my weakness, along with apple juice and reality TV.
So, I arrived with the expectations of discovering a cornucopia of breads and fun stuff to, perhaps, put on said breads.
The menu was quite limited with not a lot to choose from.
I had to pass up on the duck liver and other items that didn't tickle my fancy.
I ordered a platter of cheeses that came along with jam and ginger shavings. I also ordered salami (yeah, salami) and a smoked salmon dish (peee uuuu).
I had a basket of bread - nothing fancy - with butter.
Aside from that, I didnt see what the big deal was with this joint.
The only cool thing about the Bread Bar is the free corking when you bring your own bottle of wine.
That was the highlight of my experience at this place -- My 4 dollar bottle of Purple Moon Merlot.
So all in all -- the Bread Bar features stuff you can easily purchase at Trader Joe's for half the price.
Cork your own bottle of two buck chuck and enjoy at home!

The friendly guy that took our order, his recommendation to get the pomegranate lemonade (since they were out of the mango tea), dining alongside my gorgeous best friend, and the real chill atmosphere, saved this place from getting a score lower than 3.
Pomegranate Lemonade - Tasty good!
Basket of Bread for Two - Too much bread but real good alone or with the spreads.
Proscuitto Panini - Wayyy too salty and needed more tomato spread.
Best friend said her Portabello Mushroom on a bun was good though.
Sucks to have high expectations sometimes.
I don't know what's yummier. Chef Ludo or the foie gras croque monsieur. Or the bread basket with the echire chantilly butter. or the hangar steak with aligot potato puree with fried shallots. Or the chocolate mousse.
Wasn't too fond of the dish of the day: some all day long stewed meat.
Really wanted to try the chicken liver mousse and the cheeseplate (I know, how could I check out ludobites and NOT try the cheese). Will definitely go back to try those.
The chocolate cake with whipped bleu cheese was an unexpected surprise. The pairing was realllly interesting. And the whipped bleu cheese alone was outstanding.

Let's see...
1) Piece of masking tape in my friend's salad.
2) (2) sunny-side-up eggs and (2) tiny, tiny pieces of bread - $11.
3) Didn't have what my wife ordered. She ordered something else - didn't have that either.
I'm sure the bread is good, but are you serious? Come on.
First Impression: It looks like a posh, edgy, I'm-going-to-eat-outside-so-I-can-be-seen type of restaurant. Much to my surprise, it was very welcoming and the hostess was very gracious. We arrived at 11am on a Saturday and were seated immediately.
The Menu: Very Simple. There was a good variety of beverage and breakfast choices. Most breakfasts were paired with bread. Also, the menu is available online.
What We Ate: Tomato Mozzarella Omelet, French Toast, coffee, hot chocolate and chocolate croissant.
The Food: Delicious. The food was very simple but had fantastic flavor. The omelet had REAL mozzarella cheese and the tomatoes were very fresh. The french toast was great, two thick slices of bread dipped in delicious custard. The chocolate croissant was the best I've ever tasted.
The Server: Great. Our server was very welcoming and prompt. Our food was hot and our beverages were always full.
The Pricing: We had two separate meals, two beverages and a chocolate croissant. Our bill was about $30. A little on the pricey side but definitely worth it.
CONS: 11am is pretty early for the LA crowd so we didn't have any problems with parking but by the time we left, there weren't any spots around..

I heard great things about this place online and I was determined to try out. So I googled the location, and it showed that there is one in El Segundo!! Great, I work in El Segundo. I can just go there and pick up some bread during my lunch hours!!!
So one day during my lunch hour, I drove to the El Segundo location just to find out that the building doesn't look like a restaurant. "Hmmm, this is weird, but hey, it says "Breadbar" on the sign." So I walked in, thinking that it may be one of those "hidden and secret" location that only cool and foodie enough people would know about. What did I see? I ended up walking right into the middle of the office space, with desks, chairs, phones, etc. This was obviously not a restaurant. People didn't look like waiters and waitresses. I thought about quickly and quietly exiting the building, but the office worker beat me to it and asked if I need any help. I got so embarrassed, probably turned red, and said, "uh... hi, I ummm, I came here to buy bread... but probably, obviously, this is not the right place...?" Ok, I sounded so stupid. I wanted to dash away and hide.
I apologized for my intrusion and said that I'd get going, but people there were so nice about it. I was told that the El Segundo location was only for the office and the bakery in the back, but no restaurant and sales. They bake bread there and deliver it to different locations. They took me to the back where the baking is going on (by the way, it smelled soooooooo good there!!!), and they even packed me a big brown bag full of warm bread that were sitting on the rack as a souvenir!!! I insisted that I pay for them as that was my initial intention (hey, I went there to buy bread, not to intrude the office space and get free bread), but they didn't let me. They just said, "no worries, just tell your friends about our bread."
I mean, seriously, how nice was that? So I went back to my office, told everybody about what had just happened, and shared the souvenir bread with everybody. Mmmm mmm mmmm!!!!! They were all so yummy!!! I LOVED the cheese bread balls and olive bread. Baguettes were so crisp outside and soft inside... I'd pay for however much they are selling them for at the restaurant.
Anyway, so I actually drove up to the restaurant on that weekend and tried out more bread. Well, they were a little pricey and the atmosphere was a little snooty, but that may be because I'm not used to the Beverly Hills upper society. Come on, you go eat breakfast and end up being surrounded by waitresses and customers who're perfectly beautiful and gorgeous... That is just not comfortable and cozy to me. But who cares, right? As long as I can ignore the fact that I might not fit right into the crowd, the rest is all good.
Bread: Simply wonderful. No need for preserve, spread, anything.
Tomato & Mozzarella & Basil omelette: Come on, what better combination could there be?
Rhubarb pie: Not too sweet, not too sour. Just the way it should be.
Too bad the parking and the seating are pain, otherwise I'd be driving up there every weekend! (hence, 4 stars)

Thanks heavens for a place where "bread" isn't a dirty word. I come from a long line of home bakers and when I don't have time to bake, I roam the city looking for good treats. Breadbar's food is consistently good and the waitstaff is sweet and very efficient. Surprisingly, I really like ALL of their breads, including the varieties with fruit, which normally taste too sweet for my savory palate. My sister and I split the club and a bread basket for lunch -- perfect!

Great croissants and sandwiches!!!
I love to sit outside and have lunch or little coffee break here....! People working here are so nice too. It sometimes gets a little hard to find a parking but there are a couple spaces in rear if you are lucky...!
The bread is fantastic, the food is good. I got the tomato mozzarella omelet which comes with olive bread. It was good, I really enjoyed it. It was spectacular though but I would totally eat breakfast there again. The portions aren't huge and the prices are OK. Slightly higher than the restaurant should be charging because the food isn't insanely good or anything. My friend had a hard time ordering because she requested several danishes and breakfast treats that they were out of. Our snarky waitress suggested that my friend go inside and look at what they have rather than suggesting a few substitutes. Our waitress also seemed preoccupied and was not the best waitress I have ever had. In fact, a woman sitting behind us got in an argument with her about how long her food was taking to come out and ended up leaving. Another diner actually started breast feeding at her table....rather odd and hard to ignore!
I am sure you are saying....OK why four stars?????? Well, it is all about the bread. The bread is worth about ten stars. I love bread.....carbs are so my friend!!!!!! I got a bunch of mini items to bring home to share with Paul...or at least that is the story I am sticking with! The star of the show and the bread I want to eat every day of my life was the curcuma hazelnut. WOW, it was fantastic. Sweet, soft, fresh, and had big bites of hazelnuts in it. I also tried a mini pretzel bread twist which tasted like a fresh warm pretzel. SO very good. And I also tried a parmesan twist, that was fantastic. I got a couple others, sweet ones that Paul liked but I can't remember what they were. Except that they were delicious.
Actually, just skip eating there and just get bread. Lots and lots of warm fresh delicious bread.................YUM!

I had the most amazing chocolate almond croissant at Breadbar. The chocolate was perfectly melted. The almond paste was perfectly sweet and not overpowering. The croissant itself was on the softer side probably due to the butter content and the chocolate almond filling but it was just absolutely delicious and one of the best croissants I've had in Los Angeles. I also had their white chocolate scone, which was also equally amazing. I am looking forward to revisiting to have a meal there, as well as some more croissants and scones.

This is a good place to chill out and the bread is great. They would be worth at least four stars if not for committing the cardinal sin of serving cold, hard butter with the fresh, soft bread, which costs them a whole star in my book. (So sue me, it's a peeve of mine.) And not just so-so hard, but like hard-enough-to-cut-glass hard.
Otherwise, great place; I'll definitely go back.

hit up bread bar last night for ludobites (small plates dining with ex bastide and ex l'orangerie chef ludovic lefebvre).
no corkage so i brought a nice bottle of saint julien bordeaux.
standout dishes of the night were the foie gras croque monsieur with bread dipped in black squid ink...
the chicken liver mousse ruled.
the take on greek salad with heirloom tomato, olive, red onion and a quenelle of chilled whipped feta cheese mousse was pretty outstanding too.
i liked the tarama coated with trout roe a lot as well...
wild stiped bass was amazingly cooked but the portion was smaller than i had imagined.
the sea salt sprinkled beurre echire that is served with the bread basket is mindblowingly good and there are several cheeses supplied by the cheese store of beverly hills.
ended the night with a chocolate cake with blue cheese whipped cream. the sweet and savory interplay was fuckin awesome...
this event is thurs-sat till dec 21st i think... look to spend about 50 bux a person, byob, which is nice.

Best Cobb Salad ever!!! I picked up a quick salad to go, since I had an appt. in the neighborhood and had to head back to work...boo..its Friday, why work on a sunny friday?!
The salad was fresh and just the right size. They have the most incredible smooth blue cheese crumbles on the salad...I don't even like blue cheese that much and fresh turkey pieces too. The best part was the Roquefort dressing that came with it and the Curcuma Hazelnut bread (actual hazelnuts in the bread!)...i'll be back just for the dressing.
Minus a star for: taking 20 minutes to get me a salad when there were only two tables with people at them and the raise in price (real prices are about $1 more than your online menu).

This place is delicious but overpriced. I like the croissants more than all the other bakeries in the area and there are a lot (Michael Richards, Le Pain Quotidien). They also make mini-croissants that are fun so that you can eat a variety of croissants for breakfast. The chocolate chip cookie is also refreshing in a more crisp-like way than most. The coffee is great but not as strong as Starbucks which is expected.
For dinner, Ludobites was outstanding but is unfortunately gone. Hopefully, they will bring it back.
Used to have a great service and good food.
We loved it!
Ever since the new store opened up in Century City, their quality went from excellent to no-good.
I loved their fried potatoes, but two times in a row the dish came out cold and overcooked.
Servers are not bad, but knowing how they used to be, I was very disappointed at their poor service quality.
I tried Century City store once. Their service was better!
I fell in love with their vegetarian (mushroom?) sandwich.
Also the store raised the price as if there was "housing boom" there.
Every time we came back, there was new menu, higher price...less portion and lower quality.
I was a big fan of Bread Bar...these days, I am going somewhere else for my breakfast.
I blame any weight gain ove the past 9 months to the Breadbar. Oh Breadbar people how do you make such delicate croissants, lovely artisan breads, delictable madelines and superb baguettes. Needless to say they make great bread and bread type products. Their raisin and almond croissant are stupid (stupid meaning really good). I use their artisan white bread to make french toast on the weekends. They have these things called alpine rolls (bread with cheese baked into it). Thats really stupid. We've ordered eggs and omlettes there as well and they are also really really good. There isn't anything here that I've eaten that isn't good. I don't know how much more I can say about this place because its so good. I contemplated not writing a review for this place so more people would not find out about it. They recently opened up a Century City location - I suggest you go there.

Contrary to Ray M. below I love cold hard butter... so five stars it is.
the bread is the best i've had in LA.. thank goddess i live nearby, i can walk there and then eat not feeling too guilty! there is olive bread, pain de mie (which is more like a bad brioche in some ways), rustic (my fav!), alpine (ie cheese) bread... The salads are fresh, the Cobb is actually a Cobb salad for once, they have fries and do burgers, they have simple sandwiches (tho they make the ham one too complicated adding radish and cornichons, but they are real cornichons)... the lemonade is the right dose of tart and sweet, the manager is nice, ... if only they sold the baguette they use to make their sandwich (nope, it is NOT the same one as the one for sale).. oh and they have chaussons aux pommes and the BEST pain au chocolat i have ever found in the US. Now if only their teas and pain aux raisins were better and they closed later it would be sublimative.
NB -they sell out of baguettes often.

ludobites.
somethings were good and simple ( tomatoes and cheese, honey and cheese, chicken liver mousse ) while others like the foie gras tart with lemon puree and maple syrup was ambitious, but off in the combination of flavouring while the monk fish scampi was dry and disappointing.
( however the lemon puree and the tart itself was delicious, it was just the combination and how it was put together that threw it off for me ).
some hits and misses, but with a BYOB policy and a cute chef, all those misses just became pluses.
yeahhhhh.
I think that the most important aspect of this restaurant that you need to know is that both of Britney Spears' (Spears's?) babies were born across the street at Cedars-Sinai.
Now that that important trivia is out of the way, I'd like to rave about the hamburger and fries at this place. If only I could put a photo of my "food art" that I created with my fries, saying such things as "E-A-T," "Y-U-M-M-Y," "F-O-O-D," this would be a complete review, but alas, I cannot.
Again burger=good. It's got some interesting herbs/spices in it that I just can't seem to place at the moment (it's been several months since I actually ate here). Tasty, yummy, good.

3.5. I'd give Breadbar 4 stars if it weren't for the utterly ditzy, self-absorbed waitress.
The "bar" itself is cool, and the tempting display of carbs is just unfair. I can't win. Either stand in line to get your selections to go, or seat yourself at one of the high tables for full service. Sit tight - after said waitress with no apparent agenda walks past you a few times, I assure you, someone else *will* show up to take your order.
My friend and I ordered an egg and bacon sandwich (rustic bread drizzled with olive oil and pesto, scrambled eggs and generous slices of thick bacon), and the eggs with salsa and sliced avocados. Both plates were served with chewy slices of bread and hot, crispy, seasoned potatoes. Filling and affordable, I can foresee the demise of my diet were I to move to West LA.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! breadbar is fantastic. their cauliflour soup with curried croutons was sinfully delicious and so was their portobello mushroom sandwich. there was 15 of us and everyone was pretty happy.
I will go back to try more things. Oh and we also saw adam sandler grabbing some coffee there so that made the night even better. love adam!
Breadbar's croissants don't mess around. They are flaky, buttery goodness. I have been known to say "I wish I could have coffee and a Breadbar croissant every morning." But alas, my metabolism is slowing down and my winter asthma keeps me from combating the calories that my body would be flooded with. The baguettes...yum. The Wall Streets...yum yum. BUT! The service is dismal. I thought it was a we-just-opened-and-are-still-working-out-the-kinks thing. I was wrong. Time and time again I feel like the staff does not have a clue what they're doing and what efficiency means. Have they decided to import the French attitude in addition to the pastries?? Oh kill me now!
This place is carb heaven! I love bread and this place should survive on the breads alone. It was painful trying to decide on just one thing. I tried a ham omelet served with potatoes and it was very good indeed!
The only thing they need to work on is their service. I went in pre-lunch rush and was pleasantly surprised to see an army of workers laughing and smiling. I felt a little let down when no one would wait on me as a sat trying to make eye contact with one of the 10 or so employees moving about the small dining area. After awhile I finally got up and ordered from the counter, sat back down and waited. A few minutes later they delivered me my food in a to go bag. OK I get the hint...I'll go eat in the park!
Maybe next time I'll get to eat in the restaurant and let them tempt me into taking home a few forbidden treasures.
