New York, NY
Dirty looking hole in the wall but all of that is irrelevant considering that every food item I have had has been delicious.
This is one of the few places in Chinatown that is open late late night and that makes it an awesome food stop after the party has ended. Always interesting people in there late at night and the walls covered in dollar bills makes for an interesting view.
The food has been delicious every time I have eaten there and considering that I live in Chinatown, I tend to find myself there quite often late at night. This may sound very standard or cliche but YOU MUST GET THE GENERAL TSO's CHICKEN. This is no joke. I am a big Tso fan (yeah yeah you hipsters I know its not authentic Chinese) and this is the best I have ever had. It is actually made with quality white meat and the sauce is a perfect balance of spicy and sweet. IT IS ON POINT!
Even though I am always tempted to get the General Tso's I have also tried many other dishes. I have yet to have a bad tasting dish and I will keep coming back to 69 Bayard. Def check this place out especially if you find yourself in the area late at night. -

Drunk out of your mind but still coherent enough to want some food and actually be able to get to your destination? --- Well then 69 is the place to head over to. Why? Fast, cheap, and down right GOOD Chinese food like the type that delivers in your neighborhood, but better.
We come stumbling in here after 4am and order the following right away:
1.) Walnut Shrimp.
2.) Salt & Pepper Squid.
3.) General Tso's Chicken, or plain old Chicken w/Broccoli.
4.) Shrimp or House Special Fried Rice.
5.) Tsingtao beer bottles for the table.
We leave full, stomaches content, and somehow even drunker than when we got there *scratches head* But boy do we have a blast every time.
& we always try to guess how much money is on the walls here. -

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY
If you're into cheap chinese food, this is the place to go. The service is fast and the food is good.. (And cheap... As this food should be)..They serve a solid beef pan fried noodles..Greasy (but not too greasy) with thick brown sauce, veggies... Just good. In terms of the rest of their food, I've never really had it (ie: never had a wonton soup or egg drop soup), so I can't speak to it...
In terms of ambiance, the place is covered in $1 bills with writing on the wall.. Nothing fancy, ghetto chairs... Very relaxed atmosphere.. The waiters are upfront: no joking, just order. Just the way I like it.
This place is open late and the beef pan fried noodles are a great source of carbs for those who would like to sober up a bit. -

Down right dirty delicious chinese food.
I grew up on this place and still love it. They are open late and the food comes out super quick.
If you're looking for a quick fix, this is the place to go! -
Review from Wahed K.
What's happened to this place? Years ago this place was frequently our last stop after a night of drinking and we would get fried noodles, clams and other stuff to soak up the booze. Now it has the distinct look of a tourist trap and the food quality seems to have gone down the drain.
I came back here after a long time and I got my usual fried noodles. Half of it was brown and the other half was undercooked. How is that even possible? Worst of all, where am I supposed to find good fried noodle at 3 am now?
They also have added this monstrosity called butterfly shrimp on their menu which is quite possibly the worst thing I have ever tasted in the chinese restaurant. My fault for getting that. The warning signs were there after the debacle with the noodles.
It's a real shame. I need a new late night chinese food place now. -
Review from Chris M.
I can honestly say that I have never been here before 3am. And also, I have never been here sober.
However, this place is always packed after 3am, usually with the same people that you saw at whatever party you were at that night. The food there is delicious and it is cooked fast. Very good cheap eat to end nights out.
I usually opt for beef with runny eggs or the beef chow fun. Both dishes are almost impossible to mess up.
If 69 is too packed and the wait is too long, just walk down the block to Wohop. Equally delicious. Make sure you go to the Wohop that is NOT in the basement.
Happy eating, suckers. -

Ah, the mecca for all drunken asians (and non-asians) smart enough to know that YES, yes you CAN get food at any damn hour you wish-- and cheap. Let's face it the quality, well, there is no quality to this food, but is it really quality that you're seeking for when you're having mei fun at 5am? Nay. So the next time you're drunk and have at least $10, get yourself over to 69 for some good eats.
P.S. They serve really quickly here and surprisingly don't rush you out even when they are slammed. I think this alone earned them another star. -

69 can be summarized with the same reoccurring train of thought i have when i am there.
i am drunk. i want beef with runny egg please. let's pour on soy sauce and hot sauce. pepper. oops, too much pepper. whatever. i'll eat it. oh wait, no coordination, can you feed me. please. thank you. delicious. i am content. -

We came here yesterday because other dimsum restaurant were pack because it was the chinese new year parade so we couldn't wait any long and someone pick this place. We had a group over 30 people so we basically took over the resturant. Every single table choose to eat differently, some family some by themselves. i order the duck lo mein and it was all fat and no reallt much meat so a little disappointed. I try my friend chow fun dish and it was alot better. I saw other tables got deep fried pork chop which look delicious i order 1 to go to eat tomorrow. The price is very cheap and affordable. would come here again but don't expoect the best chinese food that u ever eaten but it isn't that bad too.

I stumbled into this place pretty late on a weekday when all of Chinatown is completely shut off. They only have one beer on tap but beer isn't a big issue if you want cheap food at a great price and extremely fast service. I really liked the interior design of the "dollar bills", some may call it tacky...I call it awesome. Okay, I guess no one can easily judge a restaurant because when you are drunk anything tastes good...but if you are stumbling in this area. Pop in. They are always open late.

Review from Tyler L.
This is one of those dingy, old Chinatown restaurants that serves greasy food. They serve the usual fried rice, chow fun, noodles and meat with rice dishes you can find anywhere. The inside walls are covered with dollar bills.
The only thing that sets this place apart is that it is open 24 hours, so it's a good place to go late at night for Chinese food. The food is not the best and is not the highest quality. For example, the BBQ ribs I had from here were very dry - probably due to sitting out all day. Their chicken wings are a little better because they must be fried upon order. For a cheap, late night meal, this place is satisfactory. -
Review from Chris B.
24/7 Chinese! (And very important... It's a short walk from the Whiskey Tavern... So yea.)
Since my last visit was post-Sunday-night-drink-fest, my other after-hours food spots around Houston were closed @ 4am. So I walked back to Chinatown.
The guys that work here are super cool. As soon as you arrive they'll deliver water so you can hopefully fight the hangover. I was the only one in here the other night (morning) and the dude just put a pitcher of aqua on my table haha.
I leave this place stuffed, hydrated, and for under $10 every time.
Great find; Thanks to Trevor from Eight Mile Creek! -

In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of.
And where the walls are covered with dollar bills.
Literally.
This cheap Chinese greasy spoon is open late and there are few things as delicious as oily Chinese food after a few drinks. As a self hating Asian, I normally do not enjoy Chinese food, but the combination of fat (oil), carbs (rice or noodle), and deep fried proteins is a glorious trifecta when your stomach is doing all the eating and your brain isn't. -
Review from Sandra s.
69 is a great place to go to when it is 3 AM, and you are starving and everything around the neighborhood is closed.
The foods are delicious, abundant, and reasonably priced. Yes - it is greasy and not healthy, but if you are not planning to eat here every day, I think your risk of getting coronary heart disease won't be that severe.
I usually order their chow fun & fried chicken wings, and share it with someone. We leave 69 stuffed, but feeling super happy. -

Cheap, greasy, and ginormouos portions.
An old school chinatown dive that is known best for allowing people to sign dollar bills and tape it to the wall is also good for their food.
You get huge portions at a great price.
for 5.50 you get a chicken chow fun that feeds 2 people easily.
For a group of 10 people you could get 10 different entrees and it will cost everyone no more than 15 dollars with tax and tip.
All your standard cantonese entrees can be found here.
Like I said the chow fun, pan fried noodles, fried rice and shrimp with lobster sauce are all winners here at 69 Bayard -

Great place to go if you are hungry and you want to order a dish that comes in a large portion. I recommend their pork chop over rice with the sweet sauce. Another great dish is their fish and corn over rice..yum...
What caught my attention about this place was that it is not your traditional chinese restaurant. It is a bit dark and seems like something out of a chinese mafia movie. Once you go inside and get acquainted with the waiters, you'll have a great time. They allow customers to tag dollar bills and tape it on their walls, which is a pretty unique decor. -

Bronx, NY
The place is open 24/7. That gives it an extra boost instantly. The food is decent and comes out quick if there's no crowd (I'm talking about 4am right before the rest of us inebriated and starving people get there). If busy, you will wait a little while for some service. I've been there at midnight and at 4am. Both times I found seating without waiting.
The quantity of food is also great, especially for the price. If you need to load up for cheap you could hardly pick a better place. The only reason it doesn't get all five stars is because the food is only decent and they accept only cash. -

New York, NY
This place use to be my go to spot after my drunken nights. The good is the food is excellent and the service is quick. It got ugly for me when they started treating me like an American or a foreigner. Let me be more specific, please don't pick and choose when to charge me tax and give me my old school menu with all the rice dishes not the American version. Otherwise this place would be a 5 star, but I get the right treatment at Noodletown.

Astoria, NY
This place has been here since the early 80's. Nothing has really changed besides the menu in a little way. What makes this place so unique is the food & decor. There is a dollar bill pasted on every part of the walls and ceiling. The food comes out as soon as you order it. This place stays open till 5am.

One of very few places to go for late night snacks. They make awesome spam and eggs over white rice. Beef chow fun is really good too, greasy but good! Then again, everything is good when you're mad hungry at 3am in the morning and this is the only place that serves real food.

Service was horrible. Food was good....despite them giving us something entirely different that what we ordered. I guess they figured we wouldn't know the difference. And if you don't like the food they serve you, there's plenty on the floor you can choose from. I won't be back.

Super yummy- located in Chinatown, it lived up to its location. Stopped there on my way to see the 9/11 Memorial and it was good. Had the shrimp fried rice, some pan fried pork dumplings and tried the orange chicken. All were really good and I would definitely go back-- mostly because when I said we had to eat quick and run, they served our food pretty quick and brought our check immediately. We were in and out in 20 minutes and, in NYC, that is a feat!

Good thing we ain't New York Mag. Five stars here means, "goes above and beyond expectations." For a place called 69 Chinese Restaurant in the heart of Manhattan Chinatown, one would imagine that the expectations would have to be slightly lowered.
Multiple dishes with something, anything over rice. Everything absolutely delicious. Low, low prices, starting at $4.55 and if you decide to splurge consider dropping a whopping $6.55. This is definitely a spot I would bring friends and out-of-towners. If you ever find it on the emptier side, consider yourself fortunate, as 69 tends to be a place undisturbed by the tourist masses, or at least, I'm pretty sure that the Italian I heard the other day was authored by Little Italians from around the way.
Usually, I tend to select dishes that I've never tried before and I tend to stay away from the typical and dull sounding. True to Chinese restaurant form, the dishes here all sound very plain: beef with tomatoes over rice, chicken with black bean sauce over rice, shrimp with vegetables over rice, stegosaurus with turnips over rice. Everything sounds kinda boring. Don't be fooled! 69 takes the bling from the name of their dishes and somehow transforms it into additional flavor for the dish itself. Some call it MSG, but I know that that's where the Knicks, Rangers and Jay-Z play, so no worries!
There are also dollar, dollar bills everywhere. They use it as wallpaper here. I think that's how baller they are. They just take all the money they earn from their $4.55 and $6.55 dishes and put them up on the walls and ceilings. Screw making a living! We need wallpaper! They also have pictures of celebrities lining the walls who have been fortunate enough to have been graced by 69. I guess you could say that they have been effectively 69'ed.
I haven't actually gotten 69'ed in a little while, so I suppose I should head on over there for some treatment in the near future. I'm pretty sure my girlfriend won't mind.Listed in: NYC Places I Take My…, Chinatown Eats!

KNICKERBOCKER, NY
This restaurant is another restaurant that makes great Cantonese style entrees. I usually go in and eat the usual like: beef with broccoli on rice, fish with egg sauce on rice, beef chow fun and I always order a dish of pepper/salted chicken wings. The latter is the best there and people usually order that as an appetizer when they eat there. All the entrees are decent size and the price for the amount of the food is good. When I am usually there a decent amount of the patrons ask for oxtail on rice. I don't know how good it is but I am assuming it must be good for them to order it as take out. The waiters are always friendly but watch out for your girlfriends or female friends for they have the tendency to be "chatty" with or be "friendly" towards them but they don't mean anything. They are usually open until really late. How late I am not sure but I have been there as late as 3am and they usually have a third to half of the place filled in the summer.
The place also has a unique feature. They have dollar bills covering their walls. Looking at the bills is one thing I do when I am there since there are bills from other places. -

Most of the food here was just okay. The Sesame Chicken was amazing! Without it I give this place 2 stars. The Sesame Chicken takes it up to 3 stars.

I love this place the food is good and affordable!
Also i love the money walls, so cool. You'll never see another restaurant that looks like 69, it's unique. -
Review from Lena Y.
It's 3 a.m. and I'm starving from a night of debauchery. When all restaurants in Chinatown shutters 69 appears to be the only place open for an inexpensive and a filling meal.
I love my Scramble Eggs with Shrimp over rice and Salt and Pepper Squid over rice.
If you look Asian, you'll most likely get the less expensive menu with dishes you may not find at your corner Chinese food spot. Now if you look American, you'll get the menu with dishes you can find at your corner Chinese food spot which is priced a litter higher. If this is the case, just politely ask for the "other" menu. -

New York, NY
Either the quality of food has been slipping or my sense of tastes has been refined. I can't seem to put my finger on it but it was 7 years since I last ate here and what really prompted me to come back was that fact that I wanted to relive old nostalgia after a night of drinking in Tribeca. Huge perk: if you need food after 2am in Chinatown, this place can offer it.
Not much has changed in terms of the décor. You can still tag up your dollar bills and stick them up to the wall. Yes, they do remove them eventually because I don't see the dollar bills I put up years back immortalized on the ceiling anymore.
I ordered the shrimp with egg sauce over rice, the simple dish I loved so much back in my younger years but now the egg sauce is just diluted and the dish tastes like a watery rice. After eating two disappointing bites of it, I wish I ordered that dish pictured on the wall served in a bamboo dish. -

New York, NY
this restaurant feels dinky, dirty, and old. but thats exactly what makes them so popular is the fact that theyve been around since heyday and their dishes are like chinese soul food--greasy and ..oh yea greasy. my bf tried ordering duck here which is on the menu but the waiters advised against it telling us they dont make it themselves and they just order it from other restaurants ...i had a good laugh at that. i guess that was an honest gesture? either way, this is where everyone goes for drunken food when theyre a hot mess since theyre open late. to me, the food is just okay.

Review from Sally W.
Great price if you get the "lunch" menu that is served all day. The American menu is more expensive. Almost everyone Asian in 69 orders from this "lunch" menu...do the same! You can order from the "lunch" menu at any time....ignore the time limit.
The OXTAIL stew over rice or noodles is yummo!
I like the Jumbo Shrimp with Walnuts.
I like their chicken, sausage and shitake mushrooms steamed in lotus leaf!!!!!!!!! TRY THAT!!
The creamed corn sauce with fish is yummo here.
The black pepper steak is also good, beef stew over soup noodles, salt and pepper wings......did I forget anything else? I mean where else can you eat cheap in the middle of the night until 7am!!!!!!!!!! -

Hmm... the food is okay here, not bad. For less than $10, the food fills you up! Great place to go at night after drinking. This place open late. -

Honestly, I don't really remember how the food tastes because everytime I'm here I'm usually drunk - since 69 is the go-to place after the club.
I do remember that they NEVER have beef chow-fun whenever I order it, how disappointing. I also prefer this place over wo-hop (down the block), so 69 must tastes better. Maybe if I do end up here sober someday, I'll do an update.
Oh, and I remember the awesome waiter who cursed out rude customers on several different occasions, definitely made my nights :] -

Chinatown, Manhattan, NY
Yes usually I come here late nights, but I do know what I'm tasting and eating and I have to say that its pretty dam decent. Its nothing fancy and nothing special, its just simple, Cantonese food that everybody loves. Also all the dollar bills lining the walls and ceilings and everything else adds to the awesomeness.
I'm usually here for a classic dish - Roast Pork + Egg over rice. Lotta my friends like to order Beef Chow Fun, which aint too bad. Salt & Pepper Wings are pretty popular here, Most people I see order rice dishes, so if you want noodles go somewhere else!
Waiters are all nice and like to joke around with you. I like this place and am glad that its still around!
Staying open super late into the morning helps too -
Review from Jamie T.
Open at 4 am? Serves whatever you desire for a pretty low price....It's not amazing Chinese food but it's hot food late at night after going out. The waiters are funny and friendly - given the bustle of young people..
You can tape dollar bills on the wall and frequently run into other friends at this late night joint. -

So cool that I could get yummy food at 4am! It was decent quality, but not great. Seemed like it had a lot of MSG, but I guess it's not terrible for you in moderation.
I had the shredded spicy beef and spicy pork fried rice; I liked the rice better - the beef was kind of chewy and overly salty. I'd go back here in a pinch at a late hour, but only then. -

This is the Chinese restaurant you go to when your in China town1 The food is always good and so is the service! May not look the cleanest but it's fine! Famous for the customers putting a 1$ bill on the wall and writing on it!

this is our go-to spot when we're in the city, drunk, its 3am, and we're hungry....at that time you'll probably find a table right away, get quick yet nonverbal service, get to add ur dollar to the wall and enjoy consistently good food....we've been ordering the seafood panfried noodle here since 2003 and its STILL the best we've ever had...and trust me, we've tried to find it everywhere else....anyways, we came here once during daylight and realized there's a really yummy ice cream spot next door....who knew?....lol
ps - BEWARE: the bathroom is beyond dirty and scary...especially when u've had one too many long island iced teas. -
Review from Jaime M.
Austin, TX
I don't know much,
But I know I love Eggplant in Black Bean Sauce.
And that may be
All I need to know.
The waiter was not too familiar with English, but that was OK. At places like this, I go by the ol' point-and-enunciate method (note: this is not the point-and-speak-loudly- because-you-don't-know-the-difference- between-Chinese-and-deaf method), and it never fails.
Greasy fried dough with spicy mustard sweet and sour isn't worth belly space.
Like the tiny glasses of tea and water.
Ambiance is exactly what I expected to find on my first trip to Chinatown -- kinda grimy around the edges, lots of dollar bills on the walls, Formica tables. Bathroom is gross. The crowd is mixed -- there were some suits talking business, some local merchants speaking mostly Chinese, a family of LOUD people who each ordered their dishes with extra meat and asked for no veggies (and proceded to talk about how all vegetables were gross and threaten to hit the youngest kid if he didn't eat all his beef), and so on.
For $8, though, I got the best eggplant I've had in a restaurant (warning: It's served too hot to eat), plus some very nice white rice. But really, it was all about the eggplant.
As I was checking out (cash only, folks), I told the guy I was from Texas, and he told me a lovely story about how his brother told him there is no Chinese food in Salt Lake City.
I didn't have the heart to tell him SLC isn't in TX.
