I got so sick here.  I mean the worst sick of my life.  I mean I was supposed to pick up my bf from the airport but I couldn't leave the bathroom floor, throwing up green stuff until 4 in the morning sick.  And I'm vegetarian, so you would think it would be tricky to get someone that sick without meat.  Just a friendly warning....

This place use to be a lot better.  We usually come here for lunch and really never had any issues.  There is a waiter there that helped us once and I seriously felt like he just got out of prison!  He had this thing about him where he was overly friendly (like happy to be out of the slammer!)  He made jokes which seemed borderline inappropriate.  He was kinda touchy feely too.  Weird.

Anyway, back to the food.  This isn't your typical Mexican joint.  It is upscale.  You get a tiny portion of rice which isn't your traditional tomato based rice.  There is a hint of cilantro or mint in it.  Good, but not typical.  Before they removed it from the menu, I ordered the beef medallions with grilled onions and potatoes.  This dish was off the hook!   For some reason, it is no longer.  RIP bistec encebollados SP?

The chips are good here.  Again, not your typical chips & salsa.  There is grated cheese on top of the chips (not melted) and it is served with their hot sauce.  Pretty good stuff.

TIP:  If the parking gods aren't on your side, parking can be a pain.  There are only a few spots in the back which are tandem.  Otherwise your other choices are on Pico or Veteran.

Average Mexi food - I've had better from a taco truck many many times! Problem is, they want to make it a "gourmet" experience. Only thing gourmet is the price - about a 500% markup from what you'd get elsewhere.

Service was slow and lousy, the place is too LOUD to enjoy, and really reminded me of a cafeteria.

They brought me the wrong bill after I'd given them my card, and charged me for someone else's more expensive meal.

On top of that, the woman with the dessert tray interrupted my wife and I by shoving the thing right between us, and didn't buzz off until I told her a very assertive NO, 5 times.

I can't believe I wasted the gas to get there!

Kept hearing how great this place was, so i tried it out. I honestly don't know what all the hype's about. The place isn't THAT nice inside... the food's okay, but overpriced for what it is. Go down the street to don antonio's instead. Not worth this.

A guilty pleasure more than anything.  While the food is good, there is nothing especially authentic about it, nor is it served in hearty portions.  But the chips and salsa roja and quesadilla strips that are served when u sit down are excellent, and I like the variety of seafood options and also love the chicken flautas they have (though they are a bit small for an entire meal).  Also a good place for vegeterians, they have some pretty tasty spinach enchiladas.  The food can be a bit salty at times, if you're sensitive then let the waiter know ahead of time.

Nice, cozy atmosphere, and never a long wait for food.  A good backup if you dont feel like the wait at Border Grill across the street.

Good for a small group of diners looking for good conversation and catching up, or an excellent place for a dinner date, with the nice ambiance and good food.  But if you're looking to stuff yourself steer clear, and instead head over to El Cholo up the street.  A solid recommendation overall.

At dinner, the fresh fish is by far the best choice.  Food is very good, and the prices are very fair for what you get.  The service is pretty poor, not rude, but just not very competent (wrong meal, forgotten items, etc.).  Also an good place for breakfast, when it is usually empty.  Again the food is very good and prices are quite reasonable.

The food is great at the underrated little sister of the Serenatas in Boyle Hgts and SM.  Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious.

The food and drink is great - especially the margarita on the rocks and the quesadilla - which is not at all what you are expecting but you will be very glad that you ordered it!  Overall a really great experience...

One word:  Breakfast (otherwise known as brefuss).  Hands down one of the best brefusses I've had.  It's like a hidden breakfast gem because most people don't know they open for breakfast on Sundays.  In my opinion, much better than those traditional coffee shop breakfast joints where everything is huge and covered mf'in whip cream.  If you're into quantity and enjoy gigantic waffles that weigh you down for the rest of the day, you're probably better off going to Griddle Cafe.  But if you're into a quality waffle, that's not obnoxiously thick ,or makes you feel like ending your life a couple of hours after eating it, this is the place for you.  Zoe's waffles are light and delicious.  In addition to the excellent waffles, they have an assortment of tremendous, flavorful, mexican egg dishes.  You can't go wrong, or at least I couldn't.  I like their other food too (dinner, lunch, etc.), but their breakfast is much better than any that I've had elsewhere.  It's low key and not a manic environment like hipster breakfast joints where you might have to wait hours for brefuss.  I NEED SOME BREFUSSS!  NOW!!!

I really like this place, although I'll admit it's not for everyone.  They have great Mexican-inspired seafood dishes and good margaritas, but be prepared to pay $13+ for an entree.  My favorite is the scallop quesadilla, which is a big ball of scallops and cheese rolled in masa to form this big gooey ball of wonder.

If you're expecting what I call "greasy spoon" Mexican food, go somewhere else, but if you're wanting some yummy food with Latin flavors, check this place out!

Another fantastic LA eatery.  The think to do here is get tons of  a la carte small plates and a grilled fish entree.  All of the quesadillas, sopes, emanadas and tacos are fantastic, and when you follow it with a grilled fish covered in some delectable sacue you'll be glad you came.  And for desert finish with the guavas and cream.

One of the most disappointing experiences at a Mexican restaurant I have ever had. Let me take you through this disaster. First, when we walked in the door, someone pulled the hostess aside and told her "We have an emergency." Next, we were seated, got our drinks fast, but then the waitress never came. We flagged down a manager and he took our order. We waited at least a half an hour for the food. When the food arrived, we half order of guacamole was a joke. I drop more than that on my plate! The dishes were nothing great and not very tasty. My mom ordered a diet coke and it was flat both times! The thing that bothered me the most was the spineless waitress. She knew she screwed up, but she never came over the apologize. I know she was the waitress too because she waited the two tables on both sides of us. The only positive thing I can say is they gave us a free salad because we had to wait so long. This place is a joke and I will be telling everyone I know to NOT WASTE THEIR MONEY HERE!!!

A great little place new the Westside Pavilion.  The place to go for a different type of Mexican food experience.  It has a casual, relaxing atmosphere and the food, especially the seafood, is excellent.  They usually have a special of some kind, which is often the way to go.  I'm a big fan of their mole and occasionally they have pumpkin seed mole which has to be experienced to be believed.  They also carry Mexican wine which is very good and similar to Italian style wine.

Unbelievable sauces, fresh food, and a slightly more gourmet alternative to your typical Mexican restaurant.  Prices may be a bit higher than alternatives, but still a deal.  Best kept secret: Awesome Breakfast, both Mexican style and American style, without the LONG wait on Sat/Sun mornings....a rarity on the westside.

Nice restaurant, love the sopes ! Although they are an appetizer, I order them as my meal since they are soo good! I've had the chile colorado but compared to other places like El coyote and El Cholo, it was not that great, but the shrimp here is very good, any meal that includes shrimp were be delicious! The homemade corn tortillas are the best! I don't care for corn tortillas, I think they are too hard and prefer soft flour tortillas so when the waiter brought us corn tortillas without first asking what type we wanted, I found that odd and quickly told him that we wanted flour not corn, he gave me a weird look and said o.k When I ran out of the flour tortillas I decided to taste the corn ones and was amazed at how good they were, never in my life had I ever had such good corn tortillas! Even my aunts in Mexico did not prepare them this good!
The specials are always good but kind of pricey, you must have seen the shock on my boyfriend's face the first time he ordered the "shrimp special" it was $34.95, luckily my sopes were only about $7-8, ha-ha!
I highly recommend the guava cheesecake, I don't like guava don't care for cheesecake but LOVE their guava cheesecake, I even went there once just to order two slice for pick up, they looked at me kind of weird since this is not normally a place where you "pick up" your food to go. I would give it more stars but the hostess is rude and there are alot of other mexica restaurants I like more. But if I feel like shrimp and guava cheescake this is the place to go!
