I won't lie. I love being the cutest person at the bar. It does amazing things for my ego. Sometimes you get down on yourself and all you need is the attention of strangers to make you feel better. Maybe that's a little too much like Blanche Devereaux, but I'm okay with that.
My friend Allison brought me here on my second night in Jacksonville. From the outside it doesn't look like much. It reminded me of the type of places my father used to frequent in Fells Point when he was around my age. The blue glow from the neon 616 sign shone brightly on the handful of parking spaces directly in front... kind of like a David Allen Coe song.
Apparently they're known for making strong drinks. Unfortunately for them I'm used to how they pour at Blake's on the Park in Atlanta and it's no comparison, but I digress.
There's a big bar and a large patio with another bar in back. The regulars here are really nice and it was easy to make friends. It wouldn't be a crazy night without unsolicited shots. Tonight they were courtesy of Mikey and he had Eddie make his signature Grape Pushpops. I love blue/purple drinks, so these went down really smooth.Listed in: #DavidKinFL, Having a Gay Ol' Time

The New 6, I owe you an apology.
I have been holding out on an update with an extra star you have deserved for a few months now. Since I was a wee high schooler, I associated you with images of bears in leather harnesses and the Blue Oyster Bar. I hope you are okay with that because I still do, but that's why you haven't received this update until tonight.
Your bartenders take care of me. Your Maker's Mark does wonderful things to me as I traipse from seat to seat, inside and out. You have this terrific ability to bring friends I haven't seen in forever plus two days and me together.
