Amazing!  I see Lauren, who is super sweet.  I went to the Beauty Room in Troy, they ruined my hair!  I called 6 and they got me in right away and Lauren saved the day.  She made my hair go from awful to fantastic.  6 is the ONLY place I will go for my hair.  Also, the whole staff are super friendly and made me feel at home.  Thank You 6!!!

This place is awesome.  The reason I deducted a star was because it's too "hip" for me.  It's loud.  It's crowded.  It's kind of like a club/networking event/salon, if that makes sense.  But the people here are gifted, so it's worth it.
I wish I could remember her name, but one of the stylists here was able to salvage my hair after one of the worst DYING experiences of my life (see my other reviews for that).  She was honest- there was no way she could turn it back into what it was- but she did the best she could without damaging my hair.  I wish I could remember her name.
Frankie is magic.  He gave me one of the best and sexiest haircuts ever. My nerves were going full force, but I had been wanting to take my hair up a notch (literally, and figuratively), for months.  When I sat down in his chair, I asked him what he thought without any of my input.  We were on the exact same page.  The compliments I received were endless.  The cut was sleek, short and stylish- definitely not stuffy as I was worried about.  I'll be back. :)
PS: Frankie usually works out of the Bham location.

I popped into 6 Salon unexpectedly on a late-Saturday afternoon, after learning friends invited a guy to their party as a potential set-up. My appointment was just for a quick blowout.

I spend a great deal of money on my haircuts b/c they only happen once, maybe twice a year. My stylist lives in Columbus, Ohio. However, the young woman (and I say young because she was) did a FANTASTIC job with the style. Hands down, the best I've ever had and even better than my normal stylist.

In two weeks we'll see how she does on the final cut.

I have had my hair cut, blown out, make-up applied and eye brows done at 6 in RO and Birmingham.  I was pleased with the services.  Lauren cut my hair and did a good job.  Prices for that were reasonable for the area and type of salon it is.

Heidi has done my make-up and eye-brows.  She does a great job, but it is SO expensive.

Heidi literally spent 15 minutes on my make-up and charged me $75.  She also made a comment to someone else in a group that she was also doing their make-up for that I " was just having engagement pictures taken".  Gee, thanks for making me feel non-important.  The other thing that irritated me is that I already booked an outside place to do my bridesmaids' hair and make-up for our wedding and Heidi continuously bashed my choice and made me feel like I made some huge mistake.  I just thought it was unprofessional.  She had her vendor pitch to counter everyone I told her I was using.

Okay. so they just opened up one in Birmingham which is the one I went to, and I must say I was definitely pleased.

A couple of years back, I went to the Royal Oak one and liked what I saw.

So when the time came for a cut, I knew I had to try it out again. I just called up and they were able to get me an appointment the NEXT day. Colleen cut my hair... and wow. BEST hairdid I've ever received.

She knew exactly what I wanted and executed.. a major fete for most stylists.

She also offered some tips on hair management since I am a little lost in that category.

    I am definitely going back!

I regularly get my hair cut at 6 Salon.  Yes I was attracted to the place for its hip modern vibe (when I heard Morrissey on their speaker system I knew I was going to like the place), but I stayed for a particular stylist, Jennifer R.  She is very skilled at cutting and coloring hair and is a great conversationalist.  I would recommend her to anyone!

This is also a good salon for men who want a nice haircut since you pay nearly half the price of women, my cuts hover around $35.  They are always busy, but have a ton of stylists, so you can walk-in if you need a cut at the last minute.

Now with any Salon there's going to be different personalities.  For my second visit to Six I did a walk-in with a different stylist who not only did a poor job, but had a holier-than-thou attitude which almost turned me off the place.  But I'm glad I returned and get my hair cut by Jennifer.   5-stars for Jennifer, 4 stars for the Salon in general.

I feel like it's pertinent that I be upfront about my poor hair care before continuing with this review. Although I wash my hair daily, I tend to be quite (perhaps far too) lax about brushing my hair and following up with the 6-8 week trim appointments. As a result, my stylist at 6 Salon (Kristina) only sees me once a season.

The environment--everything from the furniture to the assistants to the stylists--at 6 Salon is nothing but hip and is enough to make even the dullest person feel like a member of the elite.

The stylists are extremely professional and always consult the customer before they cutting commences.

Beyond offering the latest in hair-trends, 6 Salon also features a make-up artist (who also performs hair removal) and a manicurist.

Although there are many positive features at 6 Salon (they have my loyalty), a few negatives do exist. Firstly, the prices are uniform (starting at around $50 for a cut), however, when getting color and the stylist determines a trim is necessary, the customer is charged for a full hair cut when only 1/4 of an inch or hair is extracted. Also, the better the stylist the longer the wait. Never worry about being 5 minutes late because it's likely that your stylist is still working on their last customer.
An added bonus is that 6 caries a variety of up-scale hair products and accessories and can refer to which one is best for the procedure they performed. More so, most stylists are fairly honest and can point you toward a drug-store alternative to the product if you're not interested in spending upwards of $20 on shampoo (Pantene Pro-V is my personal favorite).

I've been going to 6 for a number of years now.  I can't really remember how long.  I started out with a guy, Michael something, who left the place.  I didn't follow him, because I thought I would try someone else's services.  It's not that I didn't like what he did for me.  It just wasn't outstanding enough for me not to try something else.  Back around the time that he left 6, they offered to either put me with someone else or tell me where to find Michael.  I asked them to put me with someone else, and I ended up with Lauren Steele.

Lauren has been doing a nice job for me ever since I started with her a couple of years ago.  I guess the best compliment I can give is that I've been going back for a number of years.  I've been happy enough with her work to keep going back.  She always greets me warmly.  I always love the pre-haircut shampoo (It's not the best I have ever had.  That distinction goes to a woman who cut my hair in Berkeley, CA about 15-16 years ago.  That was definitely a scalp massage experience.  It felt almost like a shampoo seduction!)  I always love the way she cleans up the back with a straight razor.  I always appreciate the hot towel she offers me to clean myself up after the haircut.

In general, the service I get at 6 is great.  I'm always offered something to drink.  Generally, Lauren offers to take my coat.  Generally, the people I deal with are friendly.  I don't really foresee myself frequenting some other salon while I live in this area.

I've been going to 6 for a few years now and very quickly, my network of friends and family have moved to 6 too.

From the outside looking in, 6 can appear pretentious, expensive, and snobby. However, once inside, you find it's quite the opposite. I'm still amazed by the customer service, from water or drinks when you walk in to the one on one consultations before the shears come out. As someone who sees a haircut as an opportunity for change, it's *great* to sit with someone who will do whatever you want done to your hair or who will also offer great ideas as to what changes could work for you.

I believe in the motto, "you get what you pay for" but at 6, you get much more for your money. I pay $50.00 for a haircut and have paid more than double at other salons for a cut that looked half as good.

Some have complained about a wait to see your stylist, but I don't believe I've ever been to a salon that didn't make you wait a few minutes. If anything, I think the waiting time (I've never waited more than 15 minutes) bodes well for the salon, showcasing the stylists dedication to their clients and not rushing through a blow out just to keep on time.  Others have said the hustle and busy atmosphere was off putting but I disagree completely. Being in there puts you in the middle of their madness which is a lot of fun (especially on Thursday night when they're open until midnight) and makes you feel like apart of the process.

6 Salon takes normal, everyday people off the streets of Royal Oak, sucks them in, works their magic, and releases them back out looking nothing less than fabulous.

I frickin' love 6 Salon.  I love that I go to my stylist and say "Do whatever you want!" and she always makes my hair look fantastic.  The stylists really seem to care about their clients - mine always remembers details from past conversations and asks questions about me.  I used to go to Douglas J Institute but after going to 6 I wouldn't go to Douglas J if it were free - you get what you pay for and although 6 is not cheap, it is definitely worth the coin!!

I  made an appointment 3 days before the actual day. I waited 30 minutes, because they said they did not have my appointment. The stylist seemed disinterested,  did not offer any ideas. I  have thick hair and i asked her if she could thin it and she said she did not know how. At the end of 3 hours.. i end up looking like i had my finger in a socket.. as i have thick hair (am Indian), so big hair does not go well with me. Heidi did my eyebrows, all the while trying to sell me makeup..She did a good job but i just wish she would shut up about her products..  At the end of the day, this was the first salon that i had been to, when i ended up feeling that i had wasted my time and money.

I was excited to go here for a haircut given the great press.  Granted they may have had an off day, but I was not impressed.  I had to wait a half hour after my scheduled appointment to actually be seen.  When the hairstylist led me to the chair, I had to use my hands to brush mounds of cut hair off the seat.  The cut itself was flat and I walked out of there actually looking worse than when I walked in.  I wouldn't go back.

The salon was just so beautiful, that it lured me right in! The shiny glass mirrors, the beautiful people, and the aroma of hair and perfume in the air sucked me right into that shop. Jennifer did my blowout and she did a great job. They offer you wine, water, or juice which really makes for a relaxing experience. I made my appointment the day before and they were still able to fit me in! This is a great salon...check out their Birminham location as well.

Whether you want your hair done, nails done, makeup done, or all three, you can come up to 6 Salon and get pampered like the princess (or prince) you are. I like the fact they offer snack trays, wine and refreshments throughout your visit and even have a DJ on certain days. I also hear they won the "Salon Design of the Year" in 2007, which means it is even more accredited than these reviews on Yelp. Check out the website to get more information on the prices...it's definitely not cheap.
