I would give this place 10 stars if I could!! 6 Salon Birmingham is the best salon EVER. Sure, it's a bit pricey, but when you walk out of that salon you feel like a million bucks! I have been going to Danielle for a few years now, and I have never been so happy with my hair. I love that I can walk in and say "Do whatever would look cute!" and I walk out feeling like a movie star.
The salon is small and pretty narrow, but it's in a great location, the staff is super friendly, and they all seem to do a great job. Whenever I'm in there each of the stylists seems to know their client very well, asking about past conversations - it's like they're all friends! Love the atmosphere, love the stylists, love 6! -

This is one of the very few times I got the hair cut as exactly the way I wanted it. Ms. Crystal Martinez did a great job.
Meanwhile we chatted about El Lay and Birmingham.

I've been going to 6 Salon for about two years now and see Stephanie. I have loved everything about my experience each time. The reception staff is friendly and offer you beverages and to take your coat. The rest of the staff is professional too.
They offer such great service, one time I was waiting for my color to process and realized I needed to feed my meter, Stephanie offered to run out in to the cold weather and do it for me! I've parked in the garages since then, but I thought that was very nice, above and beyond what I'd expect. -

Whether it was Linda who gave you the bowl cut in 6th grade (sooo not cool Linda!) or Patsy Sue who did your first perm, I say with confidence that everyone has had their fair share of "Hair-ror Stories." Ones that may have left you traumatized to pull out the 'ol family photo albums.
At 6, you will get none of that-- and thankfully so. \When I sit down in the chair I become all impulsive and say, "do whatever you want." With Colleen, I know she will make sure my cut is sassy yet smart. She is completely in-tune with what cuts will work for your hair-- something many stylists overlook.

DO NOT GO TO SALON 6- especially for a bridal party! I live in NYC, but got married in Troy this past summer, and needed to find a nice salon that was close to the hotel for 10 of my bridesmaids to get their hair done on my wedding day. Thankfully, I was spared the awful and unprofessional experience that my bridesmaids had at Salon 6 on my wedding day, as my longtime hair stylist was came to my hotel to do my hair.
First of all, I watched in dismay as 7 of the 10 bridesmaids who paid upwards of $70 (not including tip) for their "updo" walked into my bridal suite with hair falling down from their updos. The salon is 5 min away from the hotel, so it was baffling that their updos didn't even stay in for the short car ride to the hotel. I can understand if they fall out towards the end of the night, or if 1 or 2 of the girls had issues with their style staying in, but it's pretty bad when 7 out of 10 to have this issue right after they walked out of the salon. Thankfully my hair stylist was in my suite and could help secure the updos with bobby pins. Some of the girls barely even looked like they got their hair done professionally. One of my bridesmaids waited for her hairsylist for 30 minutes, then when she finally got in the chair, the sylist rushed through her updo and did it in 10 minutes. When she went to pay, the receptionist said she'd only charge her $20 b/c the stylist basically put her hair in a side ponytail and rushed her out of the chair, but when the stylist heard the receptionist say this, she rushed over and told her that she normally charges $70 but will do her a favor and charge her $60. For a side ponytail that was falling out? Wow.
Another very unprofessional incident involved the owner of this salon. My sister-in-law, who was my Maid of Honor, waited 45 minutes to get in the chair, told her stylist exactly what she wanted, and the stylist proceeded to do the exact opposite. When the stylist found out she was the Maid of Honor, she said that the owner would finish her up. My sis-in-law waited another 15 min for the owner to show up, and at this point she was so late and only had 30 minutes until our limo left for the church. When she politely told the owner that she was in a rush and her appointment was supposed to be 90 minutes earlier, he told her, "Why don't you just tell the bride that bridal parties run late all the time and she will just have to wait!" What?! I have never heard of anything so rude and unprofessional in my life. And to top it off, they charged her $20 more than everyone else because her hair was done by the owner, even though she didn't ask for him nor did she like what he did to her hair. My sister-in-law, as well as several of the other bridesmaids, ended up taking their hair down and doing it themselves, which is annoying to have to spend close to $100 with tip on some half-assed attempt at an updo.
There are many more stories about the unprofessional and rude treatment that my bridesmaids received from the staff at Salon 6 on my wedding day, but the most appalling issue came when I called to politely voice my complaints to a manager after the wedding. I don't know the name of the manager with whom I spoke, but she was female and argued every single point with me, and was acting like I was making all of this up. She even told me that I was the first person to ever complain-hahahaha! HILARIOUS! Even efficiently run businesses get complaints from time to time, and I cannot imagine my 10 bridesmaids are the only people who ever had a terrible experience there. When I told her about how one of the stylists ran 30 min behind and rushed through my friend's updo and merely put her hair in a side ponytail, her response was not an apology, but instead she told me that particular stylist is their updo specialist. Um, if their "updo specialist" routinely does sloppy and unprofessional jobs like she did for my friend, Salon 6 is in more trouble than I thought. When I started to tell this manager about what the owner said to my sister-in-law, she interrupted me and said, "Well, that's the OWNER!" Um, I don't care who it is, no paying customer should be treated like that, especially after being made to wait for 45 minutes. It's actually even more disturbing that the OWNER would be that rude to a customer at his own salon. This manager finally said she'd speak to her boss and promised to get back to me, but I never heard from her again. Shocker! She never once apologized, and for the amount of money that my wedding brought them in one day (10 updos, and 8 make-up applications by their make-up girl from the RO Salon 6 who did an EXCELLENT job), they needed to offer an apology, at the very least. I wasn't even looking for any compensation for the dissatisfied bridesmaids, I just wanted them to know what a poor experience most of the girls had at their salon. I would've given 0 stars if Yelp would've let me b/c Salon 6 doesn't even deserve 1 star. -

This is by far the most awesome salon to goto!!! I'm a client of Mandy's but George, Johnny, and Jim all have done my hair too!!! Everyone is great that works there all SUPER nice and helpful!! The receptionists are all amazing never keep you on hold- it's just a great experience!!! O yea did I mention $20 blowouts? They are my favorite I get my hair blown out once a week in the summer and it lasts all weekend- makes my life soo much easier!!!

My mom and I both go to Colleen at 6. I have never in my life had more compliments on my hair& my mom is always receiving them as well! I usually give her free reign and completely trust her. She has a sassy sense of humor, just like me, so I get her. I have sent friends to see her and they are completely in love, will never go to another stylist again!

I get my color and hair blown out by my fabulous hairstylist Crystal Martinez. My hair is so course and Crystal gives the best blow out ever, I always get compliments on my color and get told how shiny and heathy my hair feels..once you see her , you'll never leave her....thanks Crystal for my amazing hair, see you soon
