This is only my second time going to 5focus but I had to write a review. This place KICKED MY BUTT but in a good way!!! I have been exercising for years, typically cardio and weight training but this seriously has taken it to a whole new level. I just got done with my second work out a few hours ago and I am STILL feeling it....I know my body is still in calorie burning mode. This IS AWESOME. I don't think I will ever quit....although I may wait a few days before I go back because I might not be able to walk....but in a good way. Jeff Robinson, one of the owners, was my instructor and he's great....really knows his stuff. Class size is small and everyone in the class is super supportive. I felt welcomed the very first time. They also offer massage, yoga, and various other types of body work which I am very excited to try as well. So glad I was referred to 5focus and can't wait to go back....once I can walk again! HAHA :)
Try it.....you'll love it. Unique and awesome. -

I love 5focus! I've only done the Kinesis classes with Mary on Saturday mornings, but it's a great way to kickstart my weekend and I always leave feeling pumped!! She's a fantastic instructor and she puts me through a workout that I really feel good about. I love that she offers modifications to each exercise so that I can work at my own level and push myself at my own pace. The space is really great, too, and I'm impressed that they offer so much and maintain quality throughout. The studio also offers great deals for referring your friends.
Shout out to Bret at the desk, too, for giving me directions when I was running late to my first visit, and also for moving my car for me when I frantically parked it in a 3-minute load/unload space. -

Ok, if you are looking for a workout that kicks your butt, try Kinesis, it is a series of circuits with a wall of cables that rotate on a 360 degree axis. I took the group session and found it very challenging, but in a good way.
You start off in partners with one doing a cardio set like "reverse lunges" while the other is on the cable wall doing forward lunges with a chest fly. After two full sets of 30 seconds each, you rotate. These machines are not like a typical cable that you would find at a gym because they rotate you need to maintain your posture and form so you do not lose control.
If you want to try it the first session is free, you can buy a series after that or drop in for about $35. This is cheaper than any personal trainer and in one workout I got ten times the workout that I have gotten with any trainer I have ever worked out with.
I highly recommend this for people with back injuries or poor posture, you do a lot of core work and Katherine, aka drill Sargent makes certain you stay in good form and does not let you quit. Katherine has had back injuries so she knows how to modify your exercise so there is no strain or stress on your back and still kick your butt.......because afterall that is all what we want right? -

I was the epitome of a "skinny fat' chick. The kind that was naturally thin but had no muscle mass. Although, as I got older, I started gaining some flab around my mid section.
When I started with 5Focus's interval/circuit training class, Kinesis, I saw an instant change in my body. I grew muscles that were lean and toned in a matter of a month. Since then I have been an avid Kinesis goer. Not only do you have the coolest and most knowledgeable instructors that kicks your booty in shape (literally), you also have the support of a community that understands overall well being and health.
When you go--try Kinesis for sure! But go back for a fascial stretch with Gary and a intro nutrition class with Carrie! -

One more on the gym search. I like this one.
It's not really a gym tho'. It's a kinesis studio with many features: Physical Therapists, massage, therapeutic stretching. All in an attractive place with friendly staff. You get a good workout. My trainer had modifications for me with NO second thought about it. The workout had me sweating. I left feeling a bit tired, but wanting MORE MORE MORE!
I get one free class for bringing in a friend. Come with me.. oh, Ok Friends, ge t hat ahem in shape! Now!
It's conveniently located north of downtown near Lake Union. Pay the green machine parking. A lovely cafe next door. Trainers are Physical therapists.
There is no hard sell here. You go , you try it out, you ask your own questions and Whitney answers nicely. I don't want to jinx this one. I had such a disaster with Amer. Ath. I want more. I can afford a few classes.. and of course on my diet it's less food!
Seriously, if you are a friend, come with me for a free one. I get one and you might like it. 3 classes and you will see a difference in your body if you have an athletic 'bent'. 8 classes and you will either become addicted or else frozen in time in your perfect body! That doesn't sound fun, just get addicted and let's get all our friends down there! Then we'll open our own studio.. and after all that working out we can eat pizza again! WHEW! -

I've been recovering from breaking my ankle in December 2008, and it's been hard to get back into an exercise routine . . . my body learned how to compensate for the left leg--so when I start exercising again I'd get all kinds of tweaks and strains in really weird places! And, if I try to balance on my left leg I fall over :o)
I decided that I really just needed to learn how to walk again, and "re-train my brain" to maintain the proper alignment . . . but who the heck is going to coach me on something as BASIC as walking??
5Focus, that's who! They have a ChiWalking Program that has helped rewire my brain so that my left side is FINALLY starting to respond like my right side (Yes, I am still somewhat lopsided).
Not only does the program help, but all of this mind-body work has really allowed me to forgive myself for not jumping back into exercise . . . it wasn't me being lazy, my body just wasn't doing what I told it to do, so nothing felt right. Now it does! Hopefully this time next year I'll be ChiRunning! -

This place is great. I can't vouch for anything other than the Kinesis class but that class alone is awesome.
I have this problem where I get really bored with excercise. Whether this is truly a boredom related problem or a laziness issue, or both, I'm not sure. However, Kinesis is the first excercise class I have found that I absolutely love.
It is not an easy class, but it certainly is fun. And it definitely gives you a good workout.
Plus, everyone who works there has been so nice!
So if you're like me and have a combination of boredom and laziness, try Kinesis. It's totally engaging and will chase both away! -

I am a huge 5Focus fan and am now addicted to two things they offer:
1. Kinesis -- a kickass circuit training program unlike anything else you've ever tried. It's tough, but not can't-walk-for-3-days tough. Plus all of the instructors are not only fabulous, but knowledgeable--they get you working hard, but are also focused on breathing and using correct form.
2. PB&J smoothies. This is simply the best smoothie ever!
Ok there's a third thing:
3. Community. Don't look for a bunch of uptight chicks here. I find the people welcoming, the classes are small and the atmosphere is totally supportive. Come as you are. Even uptight chicks are welcome. ;-) -

This studio specializes in kinesis which involves cable pulley systems that strengthen your core. Class size is small and while expensive can give you results more like a personal training session than a boring old excercise class. Best of all first class is free and there is motivation to go with a new friend as that will also score you a free class. Make sure you sign up in advance or you may be disappointed to find that the class you wanted to take is full up. Plenty of parking outside making this a less stressful event.

If you want to shake up your workout or just try something new, sign up with classes at 5focus now! This is not actually a gym but a physical fitness center where they have special classes that cover a variety of areas. I tried a series of kinesis classes and it was awesome! I exercise regularly and wanted to try something different and definitely saw a change in my body. The class is like an intense pilates focus-on-your core workout. It is challenging and FUN for any fitness level and the instructors are true professionals and motivating. And the owners are super nice! I introduced several friends to this class and they all RAVE about it!

5Focus is great! It is so nice to take a fitness class and the instructor and staff all know your name when you walk in! It is a beautiful center and the Kinesis classes are AMAZING. I come out on an exercise high after each one. Online class booking makes it so easy to reserve your spot...Core strengthening has helped my posture, my lower back pain and it is all gentle on the joints! I highly recommend it to spice up your routine.
