Review from Megan L.
I don't think this place is quite worth four stars but it is definitely better than three.
The restaurant itself is small and has great windows overlooking the sidewalk and therefore has good light. There are fewer than a dozen tables and at lunchtime had one waitress and one busboy/waiter. The food was flavorful, came out nice and hot, and was nicely presented. The spice level however, was completely lacking.
I ordered the 'eggplants' with crispy tofu which is labeled as spicy on the menu. The waiter taking my order asked my preferred spice level and I emphasized "spicy". The dish, while tasty, had no hint of spice that I could infer though they were nice enough to bring out a selection of hot sauces when I asked. I am guessing that the spice level here probably is matched to the taste buds of the locals in Sonoma and isn't quite what I would expect somewhere in the Bay Area.
One thing to note: the main dishes on the menu specify a type of meat (panang curry with beef, for example) but can actually be ordered with any meat or tofu that you prefer; just ask when ordering. -

I ate here for lunch yesterday. I really liked it -- it's a small, no frills space with what appeared to be a mother/son duo working the floor and taking orders. A number of people came through picking up to-go orders.
I had the summer rolls with peanut sauce as an app, and I ordered the chicken red curry. The summer rolls were fresh and crispy. The curry was the best I've had in Sonoma so far, which doesn't say a lot considering there are only a few choices, but it was very good. It came with a cup of sweet and sour soup that I really didn't care much for, but everything else was great. They were very friendly and greeted many customers by name -- regulars -- always a good sign.
I will go back and try some other dishes, but I really liked it and I thought the prices were fine. -

Great food, very fresh. Spring rolls were terrific. Mango shrimp and chicken in green curry filled us up.

The food here is very good... some of the best Thai in Sonoma. It's a tiny place, so timing is everything for getting a table, and service is ok.
I can't give more stars, however, because it's pricey for lunch and the last time we were here, it smelled like they had cleaned the floor with a mop that had soured. It was really hard to get past that potent, wet dog, sour smell... -

I'd give the food 4 1/2 stars. Really some of the best Thai food in Sonoma County. As other reviewers have said, the place is rather small with not much decor. Not that that matters much, but I'd like to see this kitchen in a "classier" place. There is an outside dining area too. Still.... you really go to a restaurant for the food, and this place has great Thai food.
A friend always orders sweet and sour -- I've tried it -- and it is so good. Everything is fresh. The sauce is tasty and is actually more of a broth than a sauce. Quite good.
I've tried many of the noodle dishes. All are good. My favorite is the pad thai. A perfect balance of flavors -- and there are a lot of flavors in this dish.
Crispy summer rolls are our appetizer of choice. Four rolls filled with shredded veggies are deep fried, but not at all greasy. (I guess sometime we should try the soft summer rolls, but we like the crispy ones so much...)
Service is friendly, efficient, and fast -- there has never been a wait for the food, even when the place is busy.
Prices are right. We generally have one order of the spring rolls, two entrees, and two (non-alcoholic) drinks. With tax we get away for $30 - $35. Such a deal.
I live just a few blocks from 599 Thai, so I frequent it often.
It's a couple blocks off the Plaza, so if you're visiting Sonoma it's worth the little walk. (Yes, there are places beyond the Plaza.)
Highly recommended. -

I have been there twice for lunch and had to order the Chicken Curry Noodle Soup both times from the "Specials" board. It was that good. Nothing else jumped out at me, but I intend to go back and try dinner from the regular menu.
The place is small so I try to go early in order to get a table. The staff is very attentive.
Dropped one star for price. It is a tad high for a lunchtime meal. I would suggest they create a few lunchtime specials that includes soup, rice and maybe a spring roll. I would go more often. -

Very good Thai food. I usually order out, as I get this for lunch during work. I like the spicy noodles with chicken the best as it comes with a salad with delish peanut sauce. A little bit pricey, but worth it for the food, and a good price for sonoma in general.
I usually come here twice a month for my Thai fix :-). Flavors are awesome and full and complimentary with eachother.
Definately worth a try!!! -

Nice small place with a good atmosphere and outside seating. I'm a big fan of their curry dishes. They have some great dishes for me as a vegetarian, and my vegan friend that was with me.

Excellent, competent service. The waitress is really sweet.
I'm a fan of their outdoor seating and their pad thai... yeah such a cliche but it's a huge plate and it's soooo good. Their green curry is also a favorite.
Update (10/06): -1 star for the shrinking portions. For dinner, I got their chicken and string beans-- yes, it was spicy goodness, but only about the size of a golf ball in volume. The bf's green curry w/chicken didn't seem to have as much chicken and veggies as earlier visits... and when they brought out the rice, it was a tiny serving for both of us. Ok, maybe they're having financial troubles but seriously, rice is inexpensive. Why try and cut corners there?
I think I'll have to go back to Rin's as my standby when I'm up in Sonoma. -

Reasonable prices, unusually fast service, cozy restaurant. Friendly waitstaff.
The food is the minimum you'd expect from a Thai restaurant, but the Red Curry is nothing spectacular.
EXCELLENT fried rice. -

This is my default restaurant in sonoma. It not the best Thai food I've had but its quite cheap (7.50 a plate and a buck for rice) and the service is great. We have always gotten our food quickly and the quality is consistent. One thing that I don't like is that their curries are often too sweet but with the price, I can't complain.
I recommend the country curry (gang pa) or the larb salad (ground chicken with Thai seasonings. -

The food is prepared quickly and freshly. The only problem is some dishes are not as good as others. I'd say it's the least expensive place to eat near downtown.
Great for tourists and locals. Four stars for value, three stars for food. -

Wow, this place is great! We got some food to go and based on other reviewers recommendations I ordered the Curry Chicken Noodle Soup. I just LOVED all the little condiments that accompanied the rich coconut based soup. Egg noodles, hard boiled egg, lime wedge and sweet cornichons. Yes, you read correctly. The sweet, crunch of the little pickles adds such an amazing element to this soup. We also ordered the papaya salad with a peanuts, limes, julienned cucumber and a wonderful tangy dressing. I've been craving this place ever since we ordered and can't wait to go back. The place is super tiny and although we picked up our food around 5pm with no one else in the joint, I would imagine they get quite busy. Going to try the Mango Prawns next time.

It suits us just fine as a simple and tasty place for Thai outside of San Fran.

Tiny place, good for take-out though. Service when we've eaten there has been hit or miss.

It's pretty good, but not that good.
I ordered a side of rice, fresh rolls, and pad thai to go, and it ran me $25. The fresh rolls were too doughy, and offered no filling (other than a piece of lettuce and two bean sprouts)...I am normally used to fresh rolls being stuffed with fresh vegetables of all sorts. So obviously when I got home I was completely disappointed by them. Had Thailand Thai had been open I would have much rather eaten there.
Kudos cause they are on Broadway and relatively close to work for me. -

This is my favorite Thai place in the valley. The food is great and I've never had a problem with service. It's small, but so are all the other great Thai places I've found. Nice place for a casual dinner with out of town guests.

really good food, but the atmosphere and the service are not that great.
while i was there, three high school girls came in and stood by the kitchen doorway and chatted it up with our server (Who was almost finished with bringing out all our dishes)
not recommended for any party of or larger than 4 people. our plates were brought out at awkwardly different times, and the one left without her food was begging us to eat ours before it got cold.
i would recommend it for take out. but addicted to the green papaya salad, and would go back again for it. -

My chicken was raw, and the cook was rude about it. I took a photo of the raw drumstick because I was in shock that it was wet and shiny. The owner/cook must have been having a bad day, because she gave me attitude and fought with me about it. I will never eat there again, who needs Salmonella served with attitude???

ok so the food is the usual post 1971 immigrant act fare..you know what I mean...war winding down need to relocate our allies so we open up the borders to south east asians...educated classes flee to the US and find they are to join the wave of many immigrant groups before ..melt into the pot always begins with restaurants...the Thai world of food is grandma in the kitchen using the Auytothai official book of food and dumbing the heat with sugar ...no chilli out of balance with macho farang style heat no flavor...so this grand cuisine loses its idenity and becomes soso...skip to today...this is a wonderful family, doing the dream...my first visit was tough as I was ill and just wanted tom ca gai and kow suwai with a thai egg...at first they did not understand then the grandmother came out and we talked a little..my thai is not as good as it once was...and she made me simple bland food for my aching belly...my companion ordered food that I would never order..and the eggplant was yech and smelled even worse the next day in the fridge...I gave them another chance recently...they remembered me and i was able to instruct them how I liked my Thai food and they accomadatrd me just fine! I like them...the menu is ok...not 4 star material but if you speak thai, make a connecton the food is better.

I love red curry, so it's usually the first dish I try when we go to a new Thai place. Their red curry was fine, but not as flavorful as others that I've had. The restaurant is small and can be crowded during busy times, but the staff is very nice and helpful.

This is my favorite Thai since moving to Sonoma Co. While I generally go for the take-out, the service is good (it's the kind of family operation that makes you feel good about giving them your money) and food consistantly above average. The restaurant is small but it is a nice place to go when you are sick of all the touristy places along the square.

Got takeaway here on Friday and hated it!. I ordered Pad Thai for myself and the kids which I know is safe but hey, they usually eat all of it. First off I ordered inside and the order was ready in 5 minutes. Not a good sign and I was really dreading my dinner on the way home. As expected, this had to be pre-made. The noodles were over cooked and stuck together in large clumps. The sauce was not the traditional and had a weird smell that even the kids noticed and commented on. Usually, there are plenty of veggies and tofu but the cheapest ingredients hardly made an appearance in this dish. I agree, the pricing is good, but I'd rather have better food than worry about the cost as we don't eat Thai food that often. I have to admit that I will try another place next time we have that Thai craving as this just isn't good enough.
