MUST GO HERE!
This is definitely one of the best places for food and wine in Sacramento. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Super personable. They understand the experience you want and make it even better.
The menu has unique items that are masterfully crafted to satiate every taste bud. Some of the best food I have ever eaten and a amazing selection of wine.
Highly, highly recommended. If you had to go one place in sacramento, this should be it! -

Great place for dates of all kinds.... meeting friends for happy hour, first date with a hottie, rekindling old flames, or a night out with your love.
It's a sophisticated crowd, quiet and relaxed. The bar area is small....it's wise to get here early to snag a spot so you can enjoy happy hour with your date(s).
The food is really good and the small plates are perfect for sharing. My favorites are the bruschetta and cheese plate appetizers. -

This place was so tasty. I went to bed that night dreaming of the chocolate torte my 'play date' and I ordered after a bottle of red and the asparagus salad/steak sandwich.
Everything tasted great, but they really tasted even better because of the simple and fresh environment. Oh and our waitress was AWESOME. Thanks Kate. -

All I have to say is .. wow! Jessica was our server from start to finish. She was attentive and knowledgeable. The place was cozy, comfortable and clean. The atmosphere was fantastic...a full house with a casual scene on an upscale level. PERFECT! A place you want to have a relaxing ladies' night or small group event, or a place you can consider romantic for that date of yours. Fantastic food..and the pictures tell the tale. Every single thing we had was DELICIOUS from the appetizer, to the entress, to the desserts along with the recommended wines. DELICIOUS! I WILL DEFINITELY be back! TrkStr says #1!

I am starting to become a big fan of this place. It's a nice place to grab a glass of wine and have a nice relaxed time with your friends.
The staff here is quite friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the wines. I only wish they had more flight options, its great when you're not certain about what to get and want to try out a few options. -
Review from Lori J.
I am a big fan! I love the atmosphere of this place. It was suggested to me by a fellow Yelper as a great spot for a first date. I arrived early on a Sunday evening and claimed a seat on one of the couches. I took a few moments to observe the other patrons. Everyone was enjoying themselves. The clientele seemed mostly young professionals, meeting with friends or on dates. It is a very cozy atmosphere.
The waiter took a long time to notice me and bring me a menu, but I think it was because I was alone and waiting for someone. As soon as I ordered, he was very attentive. He was able to recommend an excellent glass of wine, and seemed very knowledgeable about the available choices.
I was a little disappointed in the menu in that only two flights were featured. I believe this type of a establishment could really offer an opportunity for people to sample and learn about different types of wine.
Still, I really enjoyed both visits here. Sacramento needs more places like this! I will return and bring more of my friends!!! -
Review from Sandy N.
Passed by this place so many times and often they are packed.
I've attempted to wine and dine here but there was no seating available for a party of 2. This is a cute cozy and intimate lil place with great food and drinks.
I wasn't too impressed with our server, he seemed a little occupied with his coworkers and took awhile to present us water as well as the wine and foods. Great company and good food made up for his lack of attention to our table (sofa area).
I loved their mac n cheese, the best I've had so far. Their cheese and mushroom platters were also delicious. We ordered other things but I recommend these platters. -
Review from Maiden D.
This is a type of place where you can rekindle friendships, smalltalk with buddies, or sweet talk your luva! The ambiance is warm and social. I came here for cheese, charcuterie, and wine tasting. Perfect place to go if you're thinking dinner and movie without having to worry about all that extra bloat and fullness from a typical meal. Wine and dine as the servers enlighten you about the different wines you can taste. I tried the white wines and I was very impressed with my choices!
1. d'Asti Moscato: bubbly champagne that is very enjoyable, sweet
2. Shramsberg: very easy to drink, sweet like muscat
3. Chardonnay: lingers a little longer on your tongue but wonderful
My absolute favorite was the Shramsberg that I was so glad I tried! If you're into sweet white wines, I suggest you try it. I love love loved it so much that I want to come back and purchase a bottle from the store attached to the restaurant. I was delighted to discover this weekend that Shramsberg's vineyard is in Napa- in very close distance to V Sattui, St Supery, and others. I will be sure to check it out.
oh the surprises that life brings us :) -

We stumbled on this when we were driving around downtown and man are we glad we did. The dining area has limited seating, which makes it a nice cozy atmosphere, even though it has pretty high ceilings so it's definitely not stuffy and does not seem tiny.
I have been here twice, once with my boyfriend and the two of us liked it so much that we invited my brother and his girlfriend to join us the next time. We ordered the mac n cheese, which was great. We got the cheese plate, which tasted like cheese, so that's good. We also ordered the duck, which was delicious.
I can't remember what else we got, maybe the brussels...whatever it was, I don't remember disliking anything.
They also have a ton of wine choices! -
Review from Dora T.
Firstly, this wine bar has some GOOD food. It has an extensive list of wines, but I wasn't that interested in drinking as much as I was in eating. The service was a bit slower because of a party going on in the other room, but the server was great! Aside from being super friendly and helpful in ordering, he constantly came to our table to update us on the status of our orders. For an early Vday treat, we were able to get the Vday Prix Fixe meal which included:
Raw oysters, Foie & Brioche: SO good! The oysters had tabasco caviar on top and bacon foam (couldn't taste it though). The oysters weren't sandy (rinsed pretty well) and were sweet and fresh. The toasted brioche had a spread of raw honey on top with a few slices of foie. The texture and taste were so DELICIOUS I couldn't wait for more food.
Stalk and Pepper Yellowfin Tuna: I'm not a big fan of ahi tuna to begin with, but this dish had an interesting combination of complementary textures. The ahi tuna was advised to be eaten with a homemade potato crisp and some of the soup it was served on. The ahi tuna in itself was a bit bland (as of all ahi tunas).
Lamb Duo: This lamb chop came with two pieces of mooroccan spiced lamb leg (what is that, i do not know). The lamb chop was severely rare (like the inside was all red), which might have been the way the chef wanted us to eat it, but I wasn't really feelin the taste of raw lamb at the time so I asked our server to cook the lamb a little bit more.
Splended service! Not only did he bring the food back in and serve it again on a new plate, but during the "wait", he brought us some bar food (honey covered peanuts) and an extra dessert (which I will explain next).
Butterscotch Pot de Creme: This was pretty good! This came with a scoop of vanilla ice craem and a couple caramel crisps (yumyumyum)
Chocolate torte: rich and very torte-like, this dessert came with a strawberry and some blackberries and vanilla ice cream.
Overall, I was very pleased with the service and thought the food was pretty decent (appetizers and lamb were the best)! -

Sacramento, CA
This place has been a favorite of mine for the last couple years. Ample and diverse wine and beer lists that change several times per year combined with top notch small plates, entrees, and in house desserts. Wine available in "taste", "glass", and "bottle" portions. The attached wine shop has an even wider selection of bottles although if you buy one there to have with dinner I believe they DO charge you corkage. I don't quite understand that. It can sometimes be difficult to find a seat around 6-ish when the downtown office crowd heads out for a drink.
I have tried almost everything on the food menu at some point, which also changes enough (to incorporate the latest seasonal ingredients) to keep you on your toes. Some of my favorites include:
Truffle Mac n Cheese
Bruschetta (choose 3 toppings which include combinations of fruit/cheese, compotes, burrata mozzerella, meats)
Ramen Soup with egg-over-easy and pork belly
"Petite Burgers" (Sliders)
Hanger steak
Tartare (hamachi, salmon, or beef - varies with season)
Dessert items vary but some staples I like are some sort of chocolate torte/cake, a seasonal fruit crisp/streusel, a few sorbets/gelatos (honey lavender!). At one point they offered a selection of chocolate truffles from Ginger Elizabeth around the corner, which I really enjoyed.
But wait! There's More! 58 Degrees opened for brunch last year on Saturdays and Sundays. Wish they opened at 9am, not 10, but their brunch menu knocks it out of the park as well. Egg and Cheese sandwich and Biscuits & Gravy are good (they even offered a vegetarian sausage option!) but the thing to absolutely not miss is the mascarpone cheese-stuffed French Toast. Brunch here is still a well-kept secret; when there is an hour wait at Orphan, Tower Cafe, or Cafe Bernardo's, there will be enough room here for your whole family -

Definitely a slightly older crowd - dont come here if you are in your 20s. Lots of couples on dates as well. Great selection of wine (to buy and drink at the bar), and even better food. I highly recommend the mac n cheese (not for the faint of heart) and the sliders.

Sacramento, CA
This is a great place to try a bunch of wine if you don't know what you're into. I do know what I'm into and can tell you they've got a great selection of le olde Pinot Noir. They'll pour you a 3 oz. taste or a 6 oz. glass and there's not a spit bucket in sight. As Dr. Steve Brule says, "no way Jose am I spitting this stuff out - it tastes like fruit!"
The servers and bartenders are well-versed in their product but aren't the least bit pretentious about it. They can provide recommendations if you tell them what you're looking for. You know, like "black pepper and cherries" or "stinky gym socks and morning dew".
Back in my single days, my friends and I would swing by 58 and sit at the bar. We figured we would meet a higher caliber of men at a wine bar than, say, Old Tavern. However, this is a great date spot so not many singles in sight. 58 should be your first stop to set the mood right, if you know what I mean. For a "wink wink nudge nudge" kind of night. For a "romantic evening". For a little "something something" later on. For "the sex". -

Thank you to Chelsea for making my evening great!
I brought my assistant for her graduation and 21st birthday.
We has the charcuterie, cheese plate, and 3 bruscetta with a bottle of champagne.
Our service was exceptional the entire 3 hours we camped out.
We ended up staying later than expected and had a few tastes of wine to decide on a final glass. Chelsea was leaving and turned us over to Amber, who was equally as fabulous as Chelsea.
Thank you to 58 Degrees for hiring such wonderful staff and to the chefs for making the food delectable!1 Previous Review: Show all »

When I want some wine in Sacramento downtown, this is where I go to have a glass, or two, or a few! My friend and I come here all the time to just sit, chat, catch up, and enjoy a glass. This last time I came I had the best experience at the bar. Usually, we sit at a table and order a bottle but we wanted to switch it up. Well for some odd reason my tastebuds seemed to make everything I tasted/ordered, tangy. The bar manager took back the bottle we ordered, let me try 3/4 different wines before I actually ordered a glass. First off, the person who opened the bottle for me did not let me taste before pouring, bad move. Also, the first server who suggested the first bottle, ended up being super tangy.
I've been here many times and I'll always come back. They have a pretty good happy hour, I haven't had any food there. Just their chocolate plate. -

Sacramento, CA
It might seem odd to go to a wine bar when you don't drink wine, but the menu looked good enough and I was feeling a little tired of the usual spots, so...I decided to give it a go. I went on a weeknight and the place was surprisingly dead. It's a nice, quiet little restaurant with a really cozy feel, and you get your choice of couch seating, bar tables, or sitting at the bar.
For dinner, I opted to try the truffle macaroni and some kind of steak served over truffle popcorn. The macaroni was really good - creamy and salty with a hint of truffle flavor.. The steak was a little weird and not especially tender, but it was a pretty good value for the price.
Service was polite and attentive, but not especially friendly. One thing that stuck out is that they didn't even attempt to recommend or sell our table any wine. I kind of expected at least a mention of it, given that it was a wine bar. -

The food is twice as tasty as it is expensive. The mushroom gnocchi inspired me to want to learn how to make a creamy mushroom sauce. The cheese plate selections were fantastic, and the bruschetta cripsy and topped with the freshest veggies. If I am ever in Sacremento again, I will be at 58 Degrees & Holding again, too.

Review from Sophia A.
I really want to be in love with this place. I want to give it five stars and be able to fully stand behind it, but alas, I can't.
Let's start with the positives:
1. The location is great
2. The patio is also great (but not if you are with a big group)
3. They have a nice interior space
4. The soups are generally inventive and delicious (and the $5 dollar price tag is awesome for the amount you get)
5. The bruchetta - I love that they have so many different kinds and that you get to mix and match!!
The negatives:
1. The food is sometimes hit and miss (ex. the bruchetta and soup rock, but I had a pasta that was so offesnively salty it hurt my tounge)
2. Service can be slow
3. The way they price their wines. Yes, I always forget that the first price is the tasting price, which is my fault, but it always leaves me a little surprised at my bill - I just wish they would put the full glass price first
As you can see the positives outweight the negatives and I will return here. I think in the future I might stick to bruchetta and beer!! -

I really like this place. I always look forward to catching up w/ good company and great wine. I do wish the menu had more chicken or fish on it.. But hey that won't stop me from coming back aging and again w/ my buddies.
The wines I had were:
Luna di Luna Moscato (5/5) (oh, sooooo good!)
J.J. Christoffel "Erdener Treppchen" Riesling Kabinett (5/5) (bit on the sweet side)
August Kesseler Pinot Noir (4.5/5) (right on target about being a 'light red')
(what can I say I love my wine!)
My buddie had merlot (but I can't comment on that because I didn't try it).
Food we order were:
Sliders
Salmon tartar
Chicken tacos
Chocolate tart
Clearly, the owner(s) are very careful and thoughtful on what they put on their wine list. I love the attention and respect they give to wine!
This place will continue to my go to place for a bit upscale treat when I am in town w/ buds. I miss this place. Shouda yelped this place many many years ago.. -

Long Beach, CA
Wow! What a great little spot this was. I would definitely make another trip back during my next trip to Midtown (to sample more wines and try some other food. Kara, the sommelier behind the bar, was a delight; she was friendly, knowledgeable, had a great service spirit as well as a good sense of humor (always makes me a little more enamoured). So, service was A+.
Wine was great. The food was just O.K. Brussel sprounts were TOP NOTCH. I did not like my ramen noodle dish. I felt it was very poorly balanced. The broth wasn't very savory and flavorful. The pork belly was heavy handed and in long, tough strips that were impossible to cut up in that bowl (albeit tasty). The "final straw" was the poached egg which was floating in there but completely COLD in the middle (NOT GOOD). If you aren't going to poach the egg to order so that delicious yolk it hot and runny, then please don't bother. That was worth a star right there.
Finally, what's UP with that ARTWORK???? Tacky. There were way too many provacative pictures of peppers strewn on the walls ... covering every square inch. It makes no sense for a wine bar to feature peppers. Also, whoever that local artist is probably thinks way too much of himself ... and the subliminal sex messages there lend me to belive there may be some "issues." Who knows, maybe he's a friend of the owner of the place ... who knows. It's odd though. -

What a great find! We walked into this place about 30 minutes before closing and the waitress was very gracious and told us we didn't have to worry about rushing. Sometimes waitresses say that, but you don't believe them, but she really made our night there relaxed. The place is cozy, and great for a date. We had an awesome Pinot Noir (Willakenzie Triple Black Slopes 2008) and a bunch of small plates. All of it was delicious! The baby greens salad had hazelnuts, which made it even better. The Mac and Cheese was very rich. I can't wait to go back and try more wines.

I dropped in again for dinner last night and it was perfect. The wine selection is obviously high quality. We got some bruscetta to start, 3 types all delicious. There Ceaser was excellent. It looked a little to fancy for me, but the flavors were perfect. We ordered the Scallop and Hanger Steak for the mains, and they were both delicious and excellent.
I also have to say that the room is great, solid design and lighting, and not too large. Great date place..1 Previous Review: Show all »

Seattle, WA
An EXCELLENT evening stop-off spot for post-dining ambiance in Midtown Sacramento.
SITREP
My lovely friend Caitlyn and I were wandering during a recent 2nd Saturday Art Walk. We had SUCCESSFULLY found the Mini-Burger Truck hiding up around 20th & J Streets, famishly ravaged our quarry, but we weren't ready just to go back to her place just yet ( to attack the Season 5 Battlestar Galactica DVDS no less) since the atmosphere was "animated & artistic" in Midtown.
And as we wandered down L Street, we came upon this wine mecca of good taste called 58 Degrees & Holding. [Plus I'm sure, like us, after devouring hamburgers, the FIRST thing you think about as a follow-up is a wine bar, right? Yeah, right?] We were dubious at first, but stepped in, and glad we did!
[Caveat: we were only at 58 Degrees from 7p-8p for the wine at the bar, so can not render an opinion about the food or table service.]
SET-UP
Nice furnishings, beautiful set-up, and couches to get cuddly in. Found a place for ourselves and immediately got into some nice conversational kicks with other couples who ALSO at first just stepped in merely to escape the summer heat of the Art Walk, and our conversations turned to some of the bands and impromptu music artists along the sidewalks.
To us, beating the summer heat seems better with White Wines rather than Reds, and so that is what we focused on. The bartender was a friendly chap and was quick to offer me the choices for White Wine:
* We BOTH enjoyed a glass of their featured Gewürztraminer
* And then shared a glass of their sweet moscato dessert wine.
This made for a most wonderful way to relax and kick-start the digestive processes (of those heavy little mini-burgers and sweet-potato tots) before our DVD viewing later that night! It was a great way to just "chill" with no pressure.
THE LOWDOWN
If you looking for a delightful, classy way to kick-start an evening with as beautiful a "finish" as the wine itself, 58 Degrees is a nice stop! -

I came here for their Happy Hour and I went home very happy =)
The happy hour menu consists of 5 appetizers range from $4-$6 dollars each. There were few selection of wine for about $6 a glass.
I tried all the appetizers and my favorites were the taco trios, mac and cheese, and their mini burgers.
My friend had a glass of sparkling wine (recommended by the waiter) and she loved it!!
All in all, it's a great place for happy hour. -

This place was awesome. Great food that you'd expect to be $$$ at the price of $. The staff was friendly and ambiance was nice and cozy. Wine selection is on point, and the Sunday 'no corking fee' was a deal you can't forget. If I lived closer, I would imagine I'd spend a lot more time at 58 Degrees & Holding. For those who do, and haven't tried it yet - do yourself a favor and go grab a glass of wine and a delicious bite of food.

New York, NY
While in town for a conference we did some research and decided to drop by 58 degrees to pick up some wine bottles from the retail side. We decided to sit down and have a few glasses at their bar. They have a big selection of wines by the glass available in 3 or 6 oz pours. We decided to split some of the small plates on their happy hour menu: the taco trio, Niman Ranch sliders, and the steak sandwich. I started out with a Pinot noir from Oregon, while my friend ordered a Barolo. Next, I ordered a Sonoma county Pinot noir and my friend ordered a full red from the Canary Islands (Barroso Negro?) by recommendation from the bartender. I was a little nervous after reading some reviews where someone used tangy as a descriptor for wine, but the wine bar staff and wine retail person were fairly knowledgeable when it came to recommendations or answering specific questions. The finger foods were good and the wine list diverse.
We picked up a couple of Pinots (Radio-Coteau and WesMar) from the retail side on our way out. Will definitely revisit the next time I'm in town. -

Really, what's not to love about this cozy atmosphere filled with wine, great service, really great food and enviable wine knowledge. Last time I was there, I had a honey lavender gelato pair with a dessert wine. Oh my stars, my mouth was screaming on the inside! Not sure what that was like for my friends but hey, what can I say?
Get the cheese plate, sliders or crab cakes. This would be a fantastic time to say, "would you like some cheese with that wine?".Listed in: Hungry!!!

It was Valentines Day and I had everything planned out already. My girlfriend and I were going to go to 58 Degrees & Holding for dinner and then catch The Vow. Sadly, I didn't notice that they weren't open on Tuesdays... However, I decided to give them a call anyways Tuesday morning because there was just that feeling in my gut that said, "Hey, Ryan! We're going t be open tomorrow! Come sip some wine and eat some yummy cheese and charcuterie!" So I called.. There was an answer.. I popped the question (Are you guys open?).. They answered.. YES. I literally jumped in my car out of excitement! They were only opening that Tuesday because it was Valentines Day and they had a limited menu.
So, my girlfriend and I drove over to downtown Sac, parked and made our way into 58. It's a pretty casual, laid back place where you can sip on some wine and chat with your friends. We decided to do the tastings, which is 3 oz. of your preferred wine. We each got three to go with our cheese plate (Brie, Roaring 40s, and Gruyere), our Trio of Bruschetta, and our Charcuterie plate, which was packed with Salame, Prosciutto, Dried Beef, Duck Pate, and a variety of sauces. Everything was amazing...! I definitely would want to come again and try the other items they have to offer. The staff is also very friendly and helpful! AND, if you like the wine that you have... for those of you 21 and over... they have a wine shop that's right next door that's stocked with bottle after bottle! If you're looking to impress your date with a semi-intimate date or just looking for some wine to chat it up with your homies... HERE'S YOUR SPOT! CHEERS! -

I would come here with my stylist after getting my hair done about every 6-8 weeks...
I really like the location, and the staff is nice...but the last 2 times I've come here there have been problems. First time, service was slow and we were billed for our food and the food of people who sat at our table before us...not sure if they "dined and dashed" which could be easy to do on the patio, but we certainly didn't eat their food...trying to get it removed was a pain in the neck. Our server was nowhere to be found, I had to get up and go to the bar and explain the situation to her, she had to flag down our server....
The second time the nothing bad happened to me (I learned my lesson and got the Mac&Cheese lol) but my friends weren't never happy with their meals. The pasta was over salted and the scallops were overdone. My friend mentioned her overly salty pasta and the chef got us a free dessert on the house which was yummy and nice....but overall it was kind of a bummer....
Think we will be going elsewhere for our after salon dinner from now on.Listed in: Bahs (bars *Boston accent*)

This place was alright... There isnt a whole lot of sitting areas but i guess u can always stand for that hour and a half and have ur wine and dinner ...
We walked into this pl and the bartender tells us its open seating.... hahha was that a joke?? Where the hell was I suppose to seat??
So we got a seat finally in the corner...
This place is def not classy.... they need a better interior decor as well...for a minute when I saw the ceiling it felt like im in someone's basement!!
oh and the waitress.... well she was definitely not helpful at all...
My recommendation on Wine bar around here is L Lounge and Urban Kitchen... Great wine and good food..
Thank you -

Loved this place! Extensive menu of wines by the half glass, full glass, or bottle in a beautiful casual environment. My server was extremely knowledgable about all the wines, and a pleasure to talk to.
I was only here for Happy Hour, and it featured about 4 wines at $5 a glass. A few appetizers are also great values at $4-5 dollars and some (like a few of the bruschetta combos) were outstanding. Also had the Steak tartare with quail egg & loved it.
Would love to try for a real dinner one day -

I met a few friends here a few nights ago. This was my first time here. It is located in a great spot, especially if you are on foot, so parking wouldn't be an issue. I really enjoyed the interior: warm and inviting. We sampled a few different red wines with the help of one of the knowledgeable servers. The shop is also nicely laid out so you can easily find a bottle of a wine you like for purchase. This is a great place to go to if you are looking to spend some time in a mature, quiet environment or if you just feel like trying a new wine.

58 degrees has always been one of my favorites but after my most recent visit this past Sunday I felt compelled to Yelp them.
First and foremost, they have $15 off every bottle of wine on Sunday nights- what a deal!! We got an amazing bottle of wine for a great price so they really could have had crappy food and I still would have been happy. But that was not the case at all, I was blown away by the scallop plate we had. For only $12 we had about 6 good sized scallops atop crispy pork belly served with yuzu and English pea puree. This is seriously one of the most amazing dishes I have ever had- executed perfectly and absolutely delectable!!!!! I have made it a goal to come here as much as I can while they still have that on the menu, it is THAT good. Their charcuterie plate here is also pretty kick ass.
The service here is always top notch- I love their staff. One of their employees, Kara, is actually a sommelier.
I just moved about 3 blocks away so I am definitely looking forward to being more of a regular here!Listed in: Best Dinner Date Spots, Happy Hour Haunts

I have been to this place twice now, and I LOVE their beer selection. Many Belgian ales and European lagers, which I love, and the food's pretty good (great sliders).
This last time there was an issue with an overcharge on my credit card, but after I wrote a review about how disappointed I was that they would over charge me, the restaurant's manager looked into it, sent me a message explaining how my credit card charge was transposed with another receipt from the same night, and sent me a personal message explaining the error and that he had refunded me the entire tip amount (not just the overcharged portion) on my card. I very much appreciate that the manager took the time to look into this matter, and that he sent me a personal message explaining what transpired. And I wanted to amend my prior poor rating for this restaurant to a more appropriate rating. -

For large parties call ahead and book the private room. Great menu, excellent pricing for portions, and nice affordable wine selections.
