This place is great! Our first time here! Service is outstanding! Menu is HUGE! I HAD GRILLED CHICKEN BREAST WITH ALFALFA SPROUTS ON WHEAT BUN. SIDE OF STEAMED VEGGIES. the veggies were broccoli carrots zucchini squash and mushrooms. I asked for mine without mushrooms. They were perfectly cooked very al dente...with seasonings and a hint of lemon. Scott had chicken avocado grill sandwich with a side of the fresh chicken tortilla soup. The soup and sandwich were delicious! Great kids menu! Happy hour every day 3pm - 6pm with half price appetizers. This place must have 15 sides at least to choose from. Check.out their 7.99 lunch specials also! All you can eat soup n salad is one of the choices. My mom ordered that....HUGE BOWLS OF SOUP! HUGE BOWLS OF SALAD! I will try the summer salad next time - spring greens red onions n celery tossed in homemade balsamic dressing topped with candied pecans and bleu cheese. - this salad also available on all you can eat soup and salad. Large salads were being delivered to tables piled high and looking fresh and delicious! Also have steaks... I bet they are amazing. Steak special 7oz sirloin and a side for 9.10. Also have other 9 oz and 11oz steak specials for under 12.00! Regular steak portions available with a side and salad as well! Bar looked fun!

54th is basically a Chili's, but with a turn-of-the-century saloon atmosphere as opposed to a Southwest atmosphere.

The Cajun salmon is tasty - comes with a chipotle aoili. The service was pretty spot-on.

I've only been to a 54th St three times, this one twice, and it is packed every time.  The food is worth the wait.  I actually can't wait to return several times so I can try all of their club sandwich varieties!

How much do I love 54th Street?  So much that I get takeout from here almost every Friday night.  While there are several menu items that I like, my absolute favorite is the chicken nachos that are drenched in gringo dip.  Yeah, they aren't healthy -- but I run on Saturday mornings, so that's how I justify it to myself.  I've always had nothing but the best service and experiences here.

My self and a friend were coming back from KC and decided to stop in St. Joseph for lunch. On the interstate we saw nothing, but signs for chain restaurants. I don't eat at chain restaurants at home very often and sure am not going to do so out of town. We see a sign for something called 54th St. Cafe and figure that is local. We drive to it and end up in an awful suburban outdoor shopping Disneyland type of place. Sure enough this place looks like just another Chilli's. We go in (there was nothing but chains around and we were on a time line) and it is much worse. The walls are junked up with every knick knack, poster, and piece of junk imaginable....it is everywhere!  It is even embedded into the bar. This is my biggest pet peeve. If you build up your junk over 30 years...great...if you junk up your walls before opening...it's sterile and I know what kind of food I will be eating. We were told there were only bar seats available and this was fine. My friend asked for a couple of craft beers to see if they had them on tap...they had your basic "one kind of Boulevard and one Goose Island". He ordered a beer and I ordered a coffee. I ordered what I thought would be the safest dish-a grilled chicken breast on rice with mushrooms and mashed potatoes and gravy on the side. Bartender was friendly and attentive...our food arrived in a very acceptable time frame.  The mushrooms were left off of my dish (no time to send back)...the chicken was covered with this glop of what passes as cheese at these places and the chicken was tough and marinated to the taste of trying to cover up something. The rice was cooked fine and plentiful. The mashed potatoes had a pasty bland country gravy and that was just plain inedible. My friend is the most anal eater in the world....it has to be right for him. He ordered the salmon....a dish he is most picky about...and I feared a plate flying across the room at this joint. To my surprise he enjoyed his entire meal and had nothing but compliments about the food. So, there is that...maybe beyond the horrible decor there is some hope in the kitchen here. Another thing is that you can still smoke here. I do not smoke anymore, but love restaurants and bars filled with smoke...this is how it should be...so that was nice.

I recommend the Gringo Dip, the salads and veggie burger are awesome!  Staff has always been friendly, and it's nice that there is still a smoking section!
