Review from Kimberly S.
Cleveland, OH
I found myself in an awkward situation (not uncommon) back in August. I was unable to attend a Bachelorette party for a good friend who lives in NYC because I was headed out of the country - AND - I had forgotten to order some champagne to send to her apt for the party - EEK! Panic began to set in as they started calling for us to board our flight. I frantically started searching on Yelp for options ...
I called up this shop and they were SUPER helpful! The woman who answered not only chatted me through the options of bubbly, but also wrapped up the bottles, and had them delivered to my friend's apartment - all within a 1/2 hr of my call! Unbelievable, and she made me look like a rock-star. Minimal effort for maximum results - OK by me!
I will use them again if I find myself in a similar situation in the future. I hope to actually go in and say "Thank You" on my next trip to the City. -

I stumbled onto this place out of frustration with the other selections in the neighborhood. In hells kitchen things are generally over priced and assistance always comes with an attitude of "cant be bothered" or a complete lack of knowledge about any product that is being sold.
With that being said...This is Mecca! Its an Oasis!
Roger, the owner is incredibly knowledgeable and honest. He always ask, "how much?" first, and works with in your price range and taste. This man knows his wine and spirits! Infact, when I was taking my wine class all I did was tell him what region I was learning that week, let him know my price range and he would wrap up my wines so I could blind taste at home.
It's places like this that make you want to stay in the neighborhood!
And FREE delivery! -

Prices: fair, they don't add a horrible extra premium because its in Manhattan
Variety: good selection to choose from
Staff: Knowledgeable. That's what I really like about them. Walk in and tell the guy what kind of wine you like, and he will be able to help you. That's what I really like about this place... staff that can help you pick exactly what you're looking for! -
Review from Dana F.
54 Wine & Spirits has the best prices for vodka and liquor in the area. I wasn't even in the store for two seconds before the salesguy pounced on me, trying to up-sell me to some celebrity vodka. Dude, I just want Stoli and what is this, the Gap? Do you get commission on my alcohol or something?
The name is really confusing because the store is actually on 55th Street. -

Great store with decent prices. I walked in one day and thought the owner was very helpful.
The shop also offers delivery, which I initially though was awesome. When some friends dropped by unexpectedly, I called the store to get a bottle of liquor delivered and the delivery guy had a handheld device to swipe my card. To my surprise, in a couple days I got a call from my bank confirming an online purchase in Europe. Since I normally don't use that particular credit card, someone at 54 Wine & Spirits store stole my credit card information.
Would I go back to this store? Not sure, but if I do, its because of the prices. But next time I'm going to pay cash. -

Found this place on Yelp and so glad I did. Prices are great for NYC and selection is pretty good. As mentioned in other reviews, the service is amazing and they offer free delivery. This is now my go-to place for wine and liquor.

Confusing name for a store on 55th...but good selection, fair prices, and best of all a personal sommelier. If you aren't into searching, tell the owner what you're having for dinner (or if you just want something nice to drink by itself) and your price range. He's sure to recommend a good bottle, and answer any questions you might have about another one.
The store is a little bit off 9th, meaning lower prices, shorter lines, and more attention paid to you by the owner than the stores on the ave. -

Let me break this down for you.
This is the cheapest place in midtown to get liquor. Period. You'll save yourself 10-15% on anything from bourbon to vodka, compared to any other store in a 20 block radius... I'm willing to bet on that.
Not to mention a mighty fine selection, large store, and a staff who is well versed in their own stock. The closest thing to BevMo in the city. And they're open until 10 pm. What more could you ask for? My sentiments exactly. -

A great local business housed in an expansive space and featuring, in my estimation, the friendliest customer service in the area. The store is well-stocked and the prices are definitely competitive compared with other liquor stores nearby.
Also, there's something weirdly charming about a place named after a street it's no longer on. -

A nice little shop. While the selection is average at best, their pricing for such a small shop is actually pretty impressive. I was happy to find 1.5 L bottles of Lindemans for $10.99. Also, the people working there were extremely nice and were helpful in their recommendations.
Their prices on liquor and other wines were average. This is a case where I wish Yelp had 1/2 star ratings, because I would love to give them a 3.5. -

I am going to miss this store the most! I hope to find a liquor store in SF just as clean, friendly and inviting.
The selection is the best in the neighborhood, pricing is cheaper than most, and the owners work there...they are nice and really helpful. Another bonus is that the owners just really, really seem like they like their lives so it makes you happier to talk to them. They also know A LOT about their products.
I can go on and on about how great this place is. But it would sum it up by my experience there...I asked about 2 different kinds of liquor, and one was clearly more expensive than the other one...and the owner was super honest and just told me that the less expensive one would do just fine. I mean how is that for honest for you?
Stop by! You will love it here. I promise! -

Pretty small shop. Not a great selection, but it's close to me so it's where I go when I want a decent $10-$15 bottle. Mostly mass produced labels, so this is not the place to go when you're looking for that special bottle.
The prices are very reasonable, especially for the liquor. Like others have said, very clean shop and very nice owners. Definite recommend. -

I've walked out of my way in rain and frigid winter temperatures just to go here... but they deliver. The store has a good selection and the prices are reasonable. The store is spacious and clean.
I refuse to shop at any other wine/liquor store in the neighborhood. The owner is so nice. He's tried almost everything in the store and is always willing to recommend a good bottle to match your food, price range, etc. -

They really treat you great. If you're a regular, they remember your name and address and even your typical order. They're more like friends who just happen to sell booze.

forget ninth avenue vintner, their pals, and their exorbitant prices, forget them, please god, why don't you FORGET THEM ALREADY, roger and his store both rock and have rocked ever since they opened shop on 54th and moved to 55th.
i don't really know what andreas is talking about, no disrespect... but maybe ya already had a little vino in ya? roger has an AMAZING selection, and he's tried pretty much everything he carries (unless it's an oak-y chardonnay, he's not so into that, but carries them nonetheless). if you ask for a 10 dollar bottle of something amazing, he will actually steer you to said bottle, even downselling if it's to be had.
if you're in the hood, this is the place to go. -

i love this place! such a great alternative to the incredibly limited and overpriced ninth ave wine store. it's rather large and has a great selection. it also has the cheapest prices i've found in the city on my favorite wines, especially the recession friendly chilean FRONTERA, which i've seen for 9.99, 10.99, and even 11.99 - but only 8.99 here, for a 1.5 liter! yay! it also has a lovely selection of liquor. it even had the special edition bottle of maker's mark (with red white and blue wax) that's been going for upwards of $60 on eBay.
the people here are super friendly and will deliver for free up until 9pm. gotta love that! -

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The wines are as reasonably priced as they get in New York at a relatively small wine shop. I'm glad this shop is nearby my apartment, always my go to for wine, Monday through Saturday, if I forgot to stock up at Trader Joes.

Update: I went to the store for the first time yesterday. The place is awesome. Great open space with a fantastic selection and friendly knowledgeable service. Roger I think is the owners' name and he was great. Highly recommended!

A great find in the area! The owner is friendly and knowledgeable. They have a nice selection and great prices for this part of the city. I was excited to see that they carry the Livio Felluga pinot, and for the best price I've seen so far in NYC. Just remember - it's on 55th, and they are closed on Sundays.

Decent selection of wines. good neighborhood place. fast delivery and very nice people who run the shop. they have what you want a reasonable pricing. better than other similar shops (columbus circle or 57th) and hands down the best place in the hell's kitchen/columbus circle area. not until 67 wines uptown a little or down in the lower 40's (i forget the name of the place on 9th) can you find good comparisons.
