BEST filet minon I've had anywhere, including some high up Chicago and Vegas restaurants. The food is pricey, but I'd rather pay more for such an outstanding meal. Outside seating during warmer months is a bug plus!

In for late lunch on 11/19/11. Great decor, simple menu and great service.
We both ordered soup, she French onion and me clam chowder. Our server brought a sample of spinach shrimp soup that was outstanding. Both our soups were excellent and hot. She had the mahimahi taco and I had the Cuba burger. Both were exactly as described and prepared as requested. Very good and I'm looking forward to returning soon. We did not sample the alcohol but the bar seemed well stocked.
I was somewhat surprised that we were one of only two couples in the grill. C'mon Elkhart. Don't lose this gem without trying it at least once! -

Tried to eat here during the Elkhart Jazz Festival. Hours posted indicate they open at 11:00am. Arrived, tried to open the door and found it locked. A staffer opened the door a crack and rudely told us they open at 12:00pm. Change your sign or post a temporary one. Stopped in here a couple of years ago, and like it. Will never return.

This was a pleasant discovery while visiting Elkhart for two weeks, and seems to be quite a departure from what most restaurants in the area offer. The interior was beautiful, well-designed, and nicely lighted; the service was quite competent and friendly; and the food was mostly quite good, though my "Mahi Mahi Taco Taco" entrée was a bit bland and seemed to need a bit more flavor to hold up to the other offerings. We will certainly be trying the restaurant again when we get the chance, and are happy to have an option like this that is quiet, friendly, chic, and offers more interesting fare -- with a good selection of wines, no less! -- than is usually on offer in the area.

The 523 Tap & Grill is a wonderful, small restaurant with a bar area located on south Main Street. They serve good food at a reasonable price. There's everything from salads to sandwiches to entrees. The service is attentive and courteous. It's tatefully deocrated and they incorporated the old tin ceiling into the scheme. A very pleasant experience.

I am from Elkhart too. I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Cool designer interior, but not over the top. Friendly and attentive staff. Very tasty food at reasonable prices. This place fills a culinary void that's been in Elkhart since ...well forever. Everything else there has always revolved around heavy, cheese laden mexican and "italian", "country-kitchen diners", all you can eat pig troughs and Arby's....blech. With 523 Tap & Grill and the renovation of the Elco Theatre, downtown Elkart just might make a comeback.

I am from elkhart. came into town for a night out with friends. my gf recommended so we went in for dinner. i have to say-the service was excellent. our waiter was great (Matt, I believe). mushroom fondue was good. and the greek salad dressing was great. i have nothing bad to say. the bill didn't shock me. and the decor was soothing. i did not have meat or fish so i'd like to give that a try if i return.

Nice atmosphere and reasonable wine list with some tasty options. Grouper was slightly overcooked, but had great flavor. Provolone appetizer was good but reminiscent of cafeteria mozzarella sticks and not worth $8. Blackened mahimahi was good. Server forgot to bring our bread basket and our silverware. Wish they would let you sub salads for an extra buck or two. Will go back for drinks and appetizers, or maybe a burger.
