Hands down, (512) brews awesome beer!

Their Pecan Porter is superior to any other Porter I have had in Texas.  The Wit is excellent also.  The brewery has periodic open houses for those who get on the mailing list.  They are often over crowded and disorganized, so I just drink their beer elsewhere :)  I look forward to the day they start bottling.

"Oh, you have 512 Pecan Porter on tap?!  Yay!!!  I'll have a pint please."

I'm a big fan of this local brewery. I've been to several of their seasonal in-house tasting events, as well as the Gingerman's 512 pint nights.  Judging by my 512 pint glass collection, it looks like half a dozen such events.

512 has great beers, a friendly staff and hosted a great open house on Saturday.

They were well prepared for the crowds on Saturday with staff checking IDs while people waited in line, ample beer sampling stations, special cask beers, etc.

Had a great time. Love this place

I've had the pleasure of enjoying their brews at a few places around town - Delicious and Satisfying!

Their Pecan Porter, made year-round, is absolutely the best porter I've ever drank.

For a town that likes music and drinking as much as Austin, I'm surprised we've lost so many good microbreweries over the years (and some that weren't so great and aren't missed). 512 Brewing Company is definitely in the top of current and past local microbreweries as far as I am concerned. I'm going to keep my eyes on this microbrewery, they're off to a very good start. I'd love to see them succeed and become a piece of Austin culture, and I'd like to see more quality local microbreweries and brew pubs (hint hint: 512 should open a brew pub of their own here in town; what better way to establish yourself than to provide a comfy pub with great food and brews?).

Here's to the fine folks at 512 Brewing Co for making a great thing happen for Austin - Cheers.

I'm ONLY giving this place 4 stars because of inconsistency.  Every once in a while, their IPA is....off.  A bit sour, or just not right, which a shame because it's my favorite beer that they make, and one of my favorites anywhere.

They really, truly give you a flavor that is on par with the bigger craft brewers such as Stone.  The beers across the board are fantastic, and they really, really need to start bottling.

512's Grand Opening festivities featured a full line of merchandise and the opportunity to try all 3 beers. The Wit, once again, was great (I was told they brew it with coriander, interesting!) and the pale was better than when I tried it at the Draught House. Probably a different batch. It was still quite bitter but good nonetheless. The unfiltered IPA stole the show with a nice balance of hops.

Thanks, 512! We hope you will host more open houses in the future!

I was introduced to 512 about a year ago by a cycling buddy of mine.  Since that point I always order a Pecan Porter whenever I have a chance.

My family went to the Spring Open House this year and had a great time.

The only way you can visit this brewery is to wait for their Seasonal Open House (so 4 times a year).

My boyf and I went to their Spring Open House back in March - that was the first time we've been to the actual brewery.  You pay $5 which includes a logo pint glass and 3 beers!

I've had all their beers at local Austin/Houston bars and I really enjoy the Pecan Porter (although the pecan aspect is loss in the porter), but it's still damn tasty.

The Open House lines form fast so get there early if you can.

512 Brewery recently started distributing their beers in San Antonio, so I can get it at Flying Saucer now!  WOOT!  If you're in Austin, you can get this at a slew of places across town.

Pecan Porter... Without a doubt... one of, if not my favorite thing right now.

Don't get me wrong, I love beer, many of my favorites being porters, but from the time this thing hit the tap I kept coming back to it time and time again.

Perfectly balance; mellow but so tasteful you seriously question if there is such a thing as beers meant for you.

It may be because it was the beer of choice when my father passed away and we got a half barrel for his wake that created such a connection with this brew, but whatever it is, I hope they never stop brewing it because it will always have a special place in my heart.

As for 512, and the other brews... Kevin, you have no idea how many of us "wanna-be" brewers live vicariously thorough you and 512.  It is a beacon of QA perfection in a location and market that has seen the destruction of many of your counterparts.  And it's good to see you guys not just making it, but killing it.

Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see what's next in the world of 512.

    Thanks,

    Dave

I'm a hop head, and I absolutely love the I.P.A. of this brewery! They had their 2nd Anniversary open house on Aug. 28 and in celebration had a double I.P.A. on tap. Man was it doubly delicious!

In the cooler months I switch to their Pecan Porter which is hands down the best tasting craft porter I've tasted outside my own homebrew. Their Wit is also very good. I'm not into Belgian style ales so it just isn't a personal favorite. But make no mistake, Austin can take pride in having some awesome craft beer with 512 in town. I just wish they would bottle their I.P.A. so I could enjoy it more often. =)

Do yourself a favor and savor a pint or two of their brews if you haven't already.

    Excellent beer.

They had a birthday party this summer and I had a great time, once I got in.  Then were allowed three fill up's and a few tasters, basically more than enough.  We were free to walk around the brewing tanks and check stuff out.  They had a delicious anniversary ale.  This was way better than the independence parties.

Really the only sucky part was the lonnnnnng wait to get in but once you were in the wait for beer was just a few minutes.

The brewery is cool i wanna go back an take a real tour, the owners are really awesome.

Austin has a strong reservoir of local businesses, and beer/alcohol companies seem to be popping up like bluebonnets in the spring.

    (512) Brewing is one of those special local favorites that I've come to love seeing offered at bars around town.

I recently went to their spring open house to enjoy three tastes (buy a pint glass for $5 and you get three full pints!) of any of their beers. That, plus live music, pretzels and honey dijon dipping sauce, art and cool people made for a fun Saturday.

    Yeah. They're cool!

If you like beer at all, do yourself a favor and swing by this incredible craft brewery. After trying some free samples from their awesome brewers, you'll know exactly what you need to drink when you're out on the town enjoying some music. Our only complaint is that this amazing beer is only found in Austin! After our cross-country road trip, we can say with authority that this is one of the best breweries in the United States.

I'm a huge fan of (512) Brewing Company and the various beers they brew out here. My favorite offering from them is probably the (512) Wit, which is a crisp, refreshing beer that can probably compete with the Allagash's and Hoegaarden's of the world. It's probably in my top 10 favorite beers, if not top 5.

Their Pecan Porter is also delicious and I especially enjoy the cask version, which they have available at the friendly, neighborhood Flying Saucer every so often.

Also, their open houses are good, although I've only been to one, since they are so infrequent. At the last open house, I stayed nearly the whole time, which was convenient because the Best Wurst stand they had there ended up giving up free brats at the end. The beer was delicious, of course.

A must-have for any visitor or local in Austin!

for my 100th review...I was aiming to toot the horn of an Austin gem that's a bit lower profile on the yelp radar..A-HA! (512) brewing company it is...

If you're a beer/brew fan, I cannot recommend highly enough that you attend one of their seasonal open house events.  The atmosphere is like an open invitation neighborhood bbq or block party.  Lots of folks talking real knowledgeable like about brewing...and 3 free tastes (generous ones at that).  If you like, you can purchase a souvenir pint glass for $5 and they use that for your tastes.  You can't beat 3 craft pints for $5, Can you??

To add to the happy train - their beers are pretty darned awesome.  The Pecan Porter is hands down one of my favorite microbrews & one of my favorite porters.  Those of you who still shed tears for your Celis White loss...will like the Wit and it's back story.

These (512) beers are making their way around town into some of our favorite beer joints...and I think we're all the merrier for it...I hear tell some (512) Whiskey Barrel Aged Double Pecan Porter made it into bottles a few months back.  I sense some perfect Austin souvenirs/gifts in our future!

Kevin, you have outdone yourself really! 512 Brewing company Austin's newest craft brewing company has really given the people of Austin something to think about when it comes to beer choices. Opening up in August of 2008 they hit the ground running with the IPA, WIT and Pale. All beers good in their own rights and are being served in many of Austin's finest around town. So when it came time for the Austin Happy Hour group to be invited to the Fall Open House back in December we were not sure they could top what was already in place. Then BOOM, the Pecan Porter hit us like a ton of bricks. For anyone that appreciates a good stout, you will like this. For anyone that thinks in the terms of beer with creative properties is a good thing, wait for beer gods to sit with you for happy hour. People that love a good porter, will be in heaven! The Pecan Porter takes all the creativity of the porter, the earthiness of nuts (duh pecans, right) without it being overly sweet like a pancake syrup and all of this without being heavy in the tummy. All in all I have to say that the people of Austin Happy Hour group give the Pecan Porter two enthusiastic thumbs up Bob. We order it all over the place now!

So that brings me to the Spring Open House that occurred on 3.21.09 and the ALT Beer. Hummmmm. Good beer for those of you who want something lighter on the palate this is a great beer for you.  We have been trying all of the spring line up from all the local places in town and I have to tell you that if you like a blonde you will like this beer, as it is a great beer for those not looking for something complex like the Wit, IPA or Pecan Porter.  No the ALT is a good beer for kicking it on the patio, BBQ or chilling at the lake.

If you have not had a chance to check out the line up of the 512 Brewing Company at your favorite bar or restaurant, do yourself a favor and ask for one.  You will not be disappointed!

I am grateful for a friend dragging me out to the 512 Brewery for the Spring Open House. I showed up at 4pm, so there was not too long of a wait for beer. It was freezing outside, so too many people were bundled inside the warehouse. Met some great people (and dogs) and am especially happy meeting Mouse-he was a huge part of the festivities! $5 pint glass and 3 sample drink tickets = happy. I am a fan of IPA & WIT. The beer is available at local bars downtown, so support this Austin brewery.
