We were in town on vacation for the weekend with the kids and wanted some place approachable for the kids that wasn't a chain (as we avoid them as much as possible).  We found this little gem up in Queen Anne.  So first, the honey stung fried chicken...  ehhhhh, not so much.  My guy is a fried chicken connoisseur.  And the breading just didn't cut it.  Very thick, and bready.  Not flavorful, not crispy.  the drizzled honey was nice.

I had the pot roast, everyone stole my food.  It was AMAZING!  Seriously.  We cleaned my plate.  It was a big enough serving for two people easily.  My son had the cuban sandwich, which he LOVED and now looks for a cuban everywhere we go.  And my daughter, in her limited imagination, had the hamburger... It was very uninspired.

Overall, the ambiance was nice, the waistaff was great, the food was correct and hot and timely.  We would definetly go again.  In fact, we are heading back up for the weekend and it's on our list.

My boyfriend and I ate at Emmer and Rye right before for dinner and left so hungry, that we decided to come here for a 2nd dinner!

We ended up ordering the Honey Stung Fried Chicken, since it was after 5pm.  This was my first time there and when the server came out with the chicken I was delightfully shocked at how large the portion size was.  Luckily we shared!

The chicken was very well fried and very crispy.  The mashed potatoes were the lumpy kind, which I love!  I especially liked the biscuit, which was soft and doughy.  Not at all dry and didn't even need honey, butter or jam.

The food came out super quick and our server was friendly.  The only downside was the decor.  I thought it to be quite tacky with all the hanging sea creatures and whatever else.  But it doesn't bother me too much if the food and service are good.

I'm definitely going back for more fried chicken and to try the other items!

They bring your water out in jars which I think is super cute :)

My soup and caesar salad combo was delicious! It was the perfect amount for a late Sunday lunch. The amount of dressing was perfect and it also comes with a slice of bread.

We came here on a Sunday around noon and the wait for 2 was only about 10 minutes. There was a longer wait for groups of 4+. This is a very family-friendly place and there were a ton of kids and babies everywhere! I will definitely be back next time I'm in the Queen Anne area.

Make sure to check out Kerry Park which is only a 5 minute walk away. The view of Seattle from the park is gorgeous both during the day and at night!

You have to park on the street but there's usually plenty of spots available within a block radius.

Hmmm...I used to LOVE this place when I lived in upper QA a couple of years ago...everything was great. BUT I returned last weekend after quite some time and found that things have changed here...both my food and the service were pretty crappy....perhaps that explains why on a Saturday morning they didn't have the long I was used to.

My sister and I went here on WEGETABLE WEDNESDAY where they have an extra special vegetarian menu just on that night.

And I have to say I was pleased with everything! My partner and I have tried to go here several times in the past, but we are not people who wait for anything.  So when we see people standing outside (typically brunch) we blow right on by to something else on Queen Anne Avenue.

I WAS SO HAPPY WE WERE SEATED RIGHT AWAY.
It was soooo yummy.  I had the Tostada.  I wasn't really sure what to expect.
What I should have expected was A HUGE HONKIN PLATE OF FOOD AND BLACK BEANS GALORE.
(do not order if you dislike beans/black beans)

My sister ordered off the special Wegetable Wednesday menu.  She ordered a portabella burger.  And trust me, she isn't really a mushroom person.  But she downed that thing.
She couldn't even finish her yam salad.  I had a nib, but I was so stuffed that I couldn't do it.

Our server was a super hipster man in his late 30s I'd say.
It's what I would expect from a trendy Queen Anne spot.  Classy, casual, and Seattle hipster.

I loved it.  This and Betty are definitely hot spots for me on Queen Anne Ave.  And don't forget if you're driving in.... FREE PARKING ON QUEEN ANNE AVE!
And I'd also seriously make a reservation (I assume they take them I'm just notorious about not really making them)

I love this place! I love how every few months they completely rewrite their menu to focus on different regional cuisines. Another cool thing about the restaurant, is that it is one of the best places to buy art. That's right art. Every time they change their menu, they also invite artists to create awesome artwork to complement the theme. And at a flat rate of 200 dollars apiece (I think) the art are great values. Their breakfast is great, I would come here all the time if I didn't live so far away.

I'm sure this place redecorates every once in awhile but I love their current theme which is the Can Can girls. You know you're going to a pretty awesome breakfast joint when you're greeted with several pairs of Can Can legs.

The food I thought was ok but service was nice. The bathroom was decorated like a broadway dressing room. I think I spent more time admiring their bathroom than appreciating their breakfast. Is that wrong?

On our last visit, my fiance proclaimed that this is his favorite breakfast spot in Seattle after eating the Rumble In N'Awlins.  He described 5 spot as a very Southwestern breakfast style.  I was craving plain buttermilk pancakes.  I was impressed that the pancakes tasted better than any plain pancakes I have ever had before.

It is also nice that they spice up the menu every month with themed specials.

One negative - they should take reservations.  More and more breakfast places are doing so.

Sing for your supper was a scream, unfortunately I only found out about it on the last day.  Their cocktails were divine, good polenta fries, biscuits, atmosphere, service, blah blah blah, but the honey fried chicken shut me up. I sat down from singing and tried a bite.... I'm in love.

Looking for a semi late night (this place closes at midnight so not really) nosh without breaking the bank! This is the place with a few late night comfort food around 5 bucks. They are getting a 4 stars for price to taste ratio, plus the decor of the place is pretty cool.

We really wanted pancakes but that did not come with the late night breakfast none-the-less I was impressed with a real sausage patty, nice thick piece of toast and hash made from great fresh tasting potatoes (not frozen stuff). There was also 2 eggs - nothing special there.

We also had the turtle sundae, and boy that did not last long, the crunchy pecans with butterscotch sauce and hot fudge was perfect with the huge scoop of vanilla ice cream and for a additional calorie kick nice light whipped cream!

With that said, took a quick peep at the rest of the menu though, and the prices are a bit on the steep side for a "diner" most entrees ($13-17), but we will have to come for a real meal next time.

A little bit hipster, a tad down-home, the 5 Spot laughingly tells you "5 SPOTS, not 5 stars" and they live up to that.

I had the cream pancakes last time I was here, and they were absolutely delightful. However, my friend's pancakes were something totally different, and not nearly so fluffy or good. Even though I've had some good food here, I'm tentative about giving them a better rating, as they have been pretty inconsistent.

Expect a happy, diner like environment, bustling with hungover patrons, and chock full of character. Stick to diner favorites, and you'll be just fine.

    Mediocrity with a side salad...

Every time I go to 5 Spot it is almost a bit grudgingly, but they are in the neighbourhood and you can at least get something simple.  You'll pay about $20 per person for something simple, but hey, you don't have to cook it I guess.

The problem is... every time I go there is always something wrong with my plate.  Oh during the Philly menu you can get a pretty ok cheesesteak, but the jo-jos are burnt dry as the desert and the potatoes used had black spots on them. Pointed it out to the waitress and she just shrugged and cleared the table.

Most recently I ordered the BBQ chicken from the Broadway menu, which was pretty ok, but the macaroni and cheese was gelatinous and heavily burnt on the bottom.

    Mac and cheese.

You can't cook mac and cheese without burning the hell out of it?  Really? I mean, I guess I should cut back on the starches and carbs... point taken and all.  I point out the black crust on the mac to the waiter and get a half-interested "OK" then asked if I'm done with the plate.  Well, yeah I guess so... black crust doesn't show up on the food pyramid.

You go back again... glutton for punishment to the wallet and hey, no one ever comes by to fill your iced tea for you.  OK, one glass tonight.... I should maybe cut back.  I just figure if I am paying close to what a beer goes for for a glass of tea I could maybe get a refill now and then.  My bills shows up and hey... $20 again... all right!

I don't know... i guess I honestly wouldn't mind going to 5 Spot and shelling out on their overpriced food if it was just cooked up to par with what they are asking and the staff was maybe a bit more attentive and responsive to issues raised with what's being served to their customers.

Since moving to Queen Anne last summer, we have been to 5Spot probably more often than any other restaurant in Seattle. The themes are kitchy and fun, the food very good, the service consistent.

The menus change with the themes, but it's typically heavy fare, so bring your stretchy pants and plan on a calorie splurge. Breakfast is the best meal at 5Spot -- the omelets are stellar, my husband loves the corned beef hash, the specials are always good (if they offer anything with pork belly, order it), the fruit plate large and fresh, the bacon thick and delicious. But the crunchy and spicy hashbrown potatoes are my favorite. I think they rice them and then bake them in a thick pan to get a great crunchy top. Yummy. Lunch and dinner are also great, with the theme-related specials on the menu always being a strong bet.

If I could give half-stars, I would give it a 4.5, but here are the reasons I'm giving it four. 1) Usually their Stumptown coffee is very good and deliciously strong, but the last couple of times we were there for breakfast it was noticeably weak. I asked if they changed brews or brands or machines or something, and the waitress said they hadn't. So, maybe it's a Stumptown change. 2) The restaurant claims to be and appears to be family-friendly. And truly the host and wait staff are typically very easy in this regard. However, the last few times we went, even during the busy weekend brunch/lunch hours, we and other tables with kids were shot a lot of looks by nearby patrons when our children laughed or said something a little louder than the normal conversational din. Our two-year-old is typically pretty well behaved at restaurants, and these occasions were no different than typical. And the kids at other tables weren't behaving wildly either. This is not necessarily the restaurant's fault, but it did make us wonder about going back as often. However, I also noticed that we and the other tables with kids seemed to be rushed out the door a bit faster than during previous visits. Hmmm.

While visiting from LA, we looked up some late night eateries and found 5 Spot. LOVE the late night menu options for $5.55! Also Late Night Pabst Blue Ribbon... Get a pint for just a $1.11!

    Ordered:

    - Mom's Mac n Cheese, Turkey Sandwich, Brisket, Quesadilla (quality of the food is good)

Service: Was fair. Not as attentive as could be. Felt rushed bc it was late and the kitchen was closing in 20mins, but felt the service could've been better.

Price: On avg $6/pp (late night menu)

Overall experience: Would definitely like to try this place again for a better experience. Always believe in trying a place twice!

You walk in and look around and you're like WTH?!?! The decor is um..."interesting" to say the least.

From the reviews I read before visiting this hip little dinner, seems like the decor is seasonal but always unique and strange. What I witnessed was their "Broadway" version.

Anywho, so the place is small and cute. The portions are large and the food was GREAT! My girlfriend and I shared the "RUMBLE IN N'AWLINS" which was some sort of scramble or omelet, idk but what I DO know is that it was good and the hash browns OMG Their hash browns are full of flavor and are to die for! I have "this thing" about having to try everyones pancakes so I bought one on the side, I wanted a regular buttermilk but the waitress brought us one of the wheat by mistake. I didn't say anything about the mistake because the wheat was mighty good anyways. (and supposed to be better for you, right?) No harm, no foul.

I was originally told to come here to try their mimosa's because I hear they have the best, but sadly I didn't order one...which maybe could have been mental sabotage, just so I would have a reason to come back! And I will be back.

Came out for brunch on the weekend. Overall, it was a nice meal, and a nice time out.

i tried the Red Flannel Hash. The beet and potato hash was tasty. I'd never thought to have beets in a hash, but it tasted pretty decent. The bad thing was I barely got any corned beef. I ordered a side of sausage in preparation, and that satisfied my need for meat that meal.

The other parties in my meal tried the featured Broadway dishes, which were very tasty.

Overall, a very tasty meal, and a nice brunch. I'd probably come back.

Forgot to review 5 Spot the last time we breakfasted here, so I am making sure to do a write-up this time!

We hit 5 Spot about 9am this morning for breakfast. The theme is Key West, so I was expecting to find some lime-y items on the menu. I am not a huge breakfast-food fan, but I have to tell you, they had me at Coconut French Toast (griddled thick cut coconut custard dipped rustic bread, toasted coconut butter & pineapple rum caramel) - yowza!  I was sold at coconut custard and coconut butter, but then I read on and saw pineapple...rum...caramel - excuse me, may I have an extra napkin? I'm drooling here. Knowing that I'd need to scale back the rest of my food intake for the day and make sure it was all protein, I gleefully ordered.

Side note here: couple of rough spots. Our server started off in a pretty grumpy mood. She seemed to want to challenge the hubs over some (not spilled) milk: he asked for a fat-free latte and she said they only offered 2% - in a "wanna make something of it?" tone, complete with accompanying body language - I kid you not! I was actually amused, but the hubs was not. So, he went with regular coffee. Coffees arrived, and when he looked for fake sugar on the table, there was none. Ruh-roh, strike two. He was almost desperate enough to stir in some of the marionberry preserves on the table, but our server came back and when he asked for some fake sugar, obliged. Also, when we were ready to order our server crouched down and looked at our friend on the left-hand side of the both. He was still deciding, and so we asked her to start with me, on the right-hand side of the booth. She rolled her eyes, deadpan, and scootched over to my side of the booth and took my order. Last issue: no English muffins. Our friend ordered a breakfast that came with toast, and he asked if they offered English muffins. Nope! In his words, "What breakfast place doesn't offer English muffins?" So, couple of issues there but nothing insurmountable. Honestly, once I'd had my first sip of coffee I found everything a bit amusing.

Back to the food!!! The coconut french toast did NOT disappoint. I SO wanted to lick the plate clean. So what if I'm vibrating slightly in my chair as I type due to the sugar rush...you wanna make something of it? HAHAHA. Hubs ordered two hard-cooked poached eggs and a fruit plate - he was disappointed as the eggs served were both runny. Other than that, good stuff.

Glad we made it in at 9am, as there was a line out the door when we left.

My favorite Seattle breakfast spot? No, but still tasty!

First time back here in about three years.  Very eccentric vibe going on in here...

Not long of a wait today for a table for two, looks like we beat the rush (10AM).

Kiebalsa Posse hit the spot and so did the Red Flannel Hash--plenty of food (my belly is still fat).

We probably had the best seat in the house--the far left north corner window booth...whaad up!!

    Good Stuff.

Went here twice in the past week for brunch... a strong bloody mary to get me through the holidays... and who can resist the can can that happens every time the doors open an close?!?
extremely busy both times, and service reflected that- I felt bad for the staff as it was apparent they were in for the long haul of holiday clientele.
Its great that the menu rotates with standbys... I tried the Havana Hash and the Lentil burger both of which I thought were pretty good: the hash would have been just as good if not better with just the plantains and no potatoes.

My husband & I came to 5 Spot based on all the reviewers that it was a great breakfast joint.

We came by on a weekday about 11am. The place was crowded but we were able to get seated almost immediately due to being just a party of 2.

They serve breakfast til 3pm and lunch starting at 11 so we could've gone with either menu but we both chose breakfast.

The serving sizes were super large! I think I had about a half a pound of spuds on my plate for hash browns alone!

The food was a little pricey and service was good but it didn't blow my socks off and make me feel this was the 'best' place in town.

Did see many people mention the fried chicken so we may come back for dinner to try that.

The cajun breakfast potatoes on the side of the chorizo and egg scramble were the biggest hit. The Key West Pineapple Coconut French toast was served with toasted candied macadamia nuts.  The portions were huge and couldn't be finished.

The service was nice, but slow. Multitasking wasn't an option with our server. The food deserves the four stars though.

5 spot. too humble to say 5 stars! But 5 star breakfast join for sure! Get there early to TRY to avoid lines. But don't be too intimidated by the lines, as they move quite quickly.

Breakfast brunch place. Everything from their eggs, hashbrowns, and toast with jam was delicious! everything goes great together.. but they are so delicious that you could make a meal out of each one individually. Hashbrowns were different from any other hashbrowns i've had. YUMMMMY!

They had quite a big selection of classic breakfasts, unique and different breakfast, and not so breakfast. Friends got these taco breakfast which were delicious with sunny side up eggs. A few got the philly steak sandwich.. and devoured every last bit of the sandwich, the fries, and even scraped up the cheese melts. That delicous.

Cute place and during the day it is very bright, as the windows are almost floor to ceiling. And apparently they change theme's ever so often. So you'll need to be a frequent visitor to know the latest theme going down at 5 spot!

Price: Averaged to be around $9-12 for a meal. But YUM the meal was delicious and filling. But not overly filling that you want to barf!! :D

Just incase you were wondering what i ordered: The Forest Mushroom Scramble *not the exact title, but you'll know it when you see it. Comes with the delicious hashbrowns, and 2 full toasts cut in half. Marionberry jam is provided in the middle, and is perfect with the toast. So JAM IT UP!

I'm not sure why people like this place so much, but I have been dragged here a few times despite my preference to go someplace good.  The only thing I can figure is that in the culinary wasteland that is Queen Anne, at least you have a chance of getting something halfway decent here.

The trend at this place seems to be that the service is getting better (hooray!) but the food is getting worse.  One thing I can recommend you avoid are the Junkyard Dawgs.  Andouille sausage fried in a corn batter seemed odd to me, but at $5, I figured I'd take a chance.  When I saw the plate come with three little pieces of sausage on it, I felt like I had just been mugged.  To top that off, it was actually quite disgusting.  It also came with a huge bowl of mustard, easily larger than the little sausage chunks combined.  Have you ever had a bowl of mustard soup for dinner?  I have.

For the most part, you won't find anything horrible here, but you won't find anything amazing, either.  They are simply teetering on the see-saw of mediocrity.

The place was packed on a Sunday Nooning, we waited about 15 mins for a party of 3; grab a booth very comfortable, good for TV/people watching, and a sweet spot to hang up your jacket/hat/bag/child.

The first thing you notice is that there is a theme here, now it's Philadelphia, having gone to school in Philadelphia, it was cool to see so many unique/HANDMADE pieces of Philadelphia styled art. It's crazy that they are able to add new fun things to the menu AND redecorate in a cool way every so often, while maintaining a great product

The service was fast and our server hated us in the beginning, because it was so loud and she was so quiet, but I think she warmed up towards the end.

Try the coffee, authentic 'Diner' coffee, if you west coasters don't know what that means, it's when coffee doesn't taste all that fresh, but it probably is; But you notice the tangyness you get from the pot that is cleaned once at night and gets refilled about 7501 times during the day. Love it.

I ordered the Red Flannel, roasted beets, corned beef hash, potatoes, and 2 poached eggs, perfectly done. I would have never thought of this combination, but it was awesome, really filling and fun to eat!

No complaints, would recommend this place to anyone in the neighborhood!

Going out for a date night my bf suggested the 5 spot. Remembering my previous fried chicken plate I gladly agreed and we made our way to Queen Anne.

I got the fried chicken, he got the Philly cheese steak and we ordered a side of pretzels with a beer cheese sauce. No less than 7 minutes later our entrees arrived. Knowing that you can't properly fry a chicken in 7 minutes I figured they were pre fried and kept somewhere to keep warm. The skin wasn't crispy like it was the time before but the chicken was moist and the honey added a nice touch of sugar. His cheese steak looked awful but he said it was OK and when the appetizer arrived we agreed it was decent but nothing fantastic.

It seems as though they have gone downhill a bit. The food was still good but not as good as before.

This is what diner food should be: Simple, recognizable favorites served with a twist (a poblano pepper and beef brisket hash? Yes please!); friendly but not forced service; and the obvious love the owners have for food as expressed by the rotating themes which should be incredibly cheesy but in fact add a whimsical fun touch to the place.

I won't lie, I did have one breakfast here where they used about 15 times the amount of black pepper that should have been in the recipe -- but at the slightest hint that I wasn't pleased they promptly replaced my meal with an outstanding simple plate of eggs, toast, hash browns and bacon. (and damn, I don't know where they get their bacon but it's outstanding!). Great service and a gung-ho 2nd try can save any bad meal, case in point.

My only dinner experience was well worth it, too: I went out on a limb and tried the BBQ pork -- not expecting it to live up to what usually is best served from BBQ focused hole-in-the-wall joints further east than Seattle -- and found it was juicy, flavorful, not greasy, and served on a plain but substantial dinner roll that didn't fall apart or turn to mush. Fantastic.

You'll probably have to wait a bit, but this is without a doubt a 5 star breakfast diner that will please any weekend breakfast craving you may have, and worth a shot for dinner time, too. Good stuff indeed.

For those kindred spirits that know what a "soaker" is, this is where you get one. For those of you who can appreciate it, there are only so many places one can sit at the bar and have a huge breakfast washed down with an extra spicey bloody mary at 9am on Sunday morning. Great food, campy atmosphere, truly a gem in QA.

I love the diner setting, the menu is pretty awesome, the service was spot on.
They serve stumptown coffee for breakfast which is amazing! My val verde scram was soooo good, the scramble itself was delicious with avocado and cilantro, the chorizo was very tasty too, but those damn corncakes with red pepper were heavenly. I am a big fan of savory corn bread things, so this hit the spot. It was a clear 5 star review in my head until we got the bill.
$7 for a mimosa and $7 for a greyhound? That is just dumb. The mimosas came in a flute glass, so they're kinda on the small side and with cheap champagne. The greyhound was made with well vodka and was really weak. There is no reason why any of the two should be over $5. It's a rip-off.
All in all, I will definitely revisit 5 spot for the food, but I'll stick with coffee next time.

If you don't mind having to wait for a table, the 5 Spot is a great place for a weekend brunch.

The menu is concise enough to fit onto a single page, but it still boasts an ample selection of both sweet and savory options. I ordered the Red Flannel Hash, a delicious combination of potatoes, corned beef, and beets (my Russian heart couldn't resist!). I also had a few bites of the boyfriend's seasonal Pumpkin Stud Cakes, which I recommend you order before they disappear. This place also serves Stumptown coffee, which is the polar opposite of crappy restaurant drip that we often have to endure in other establishments.

I would probably come here every weekend if I didn't live on the OTHER hill. The 5 Spot is tops!

Definitely a fan.  The menu is great - the concept and environment rock and I left knowing that I'd return.  Now, the food wasn't out-of-this-world or anything... but I don't think I was expecting it to be.

We wandered in here one evening after a lazy afternoon spent mostly in bed (due to my having a cold, of course)... and glad we did!  The service was excellent.  Our server was charming, helpful and definitely added a special something "extra" to the experience overall.

We are one of those really disgusting couples that sits on the same side of the booth - and it's always refreshing when a restaurant doesn't make a big to-do about that (especially when I'm not feeling well and need some extra body contact to ensure that I effectively transfer my disease to my date).

I'll be back - and actually am sad I didn't discover this place before my parents came into town last week - it would have been awesome to show them.

The food here is fantastic. Plain and simple. I'm a fan of simple food so for this breakfast, I had just plain ole' oatmeal. The oatmeal I got was far better than that - their mix is absolutely delicious. As I saw other breakfasts float by, I ended up ordering a side of bacon and they use GOOD bacon. Pretty terrific.

The server was a nice enough guy, though because it was so busy we didn't get a chance to actually talk to him about anything.

They have seasonal theming and the theme I was shown was the Philly theme - complete with a giant fake Liberty Bell in the middle of the restaurant.

The clientele looked like it was a mix of everybody so it's not just a hipster or downtown type of hangout - everyone should go here.

This is my favorite regular brunch and breakfast place in Seattle, both for food and atmosphere.  Favorite pancakes in all Seattle! The roasted (grilled?) potatoes are crispy perfection heaven, and goes great with their various scrambles and hashes.

Breakfast is a 5+ star, dinner I'll give a 4.  The honey stung fried chicken is a 5 star bomb.

They have an awesome standard menu, but on top of that every month they pick a US city and do an additional menu with great interpretations of dishes from that city.  I say interpretations because this place takes it up a notch (oh shit did I just use a phrase from that loud-mouth guy on the food channel?).
