This place is a gem of a business in Simi Valley. With the Borders on the corner of Tapo Canyon and Alamo closed, this place has filled in as a very solid replacement. They've really done great things for the quality of the experience, and their selection of books has grown substantially. I loved being able to let my girls explore the children's section while I browsed the shelves looking for Cormac McCarthy novels or books on writing.

The $5 or Less Bookstore in Simi Valley has genuine Bohemian hipster cred, but it draws a diverse patronage and is just a great store. They also buy books. I love this place.

I really like that this business has grown with the community.  We've got Moorpark College down the road a few miles and I needed help with finding books for my classes.

Also, our family has some avid readers and I like to just walk around and see what they have that would pique my interests.

The staff have been helpful every time too.

Definitely recommend this place FIRST then the major bookstores only if they don't have it at $5 or Less.

I am so happy that Simi Valley has the $5 or Less Bookstore!  It is my favorite store in the city.  I remember when it first opened some years ago and there was a sign near the entrance that said that the store was like a treasure hunt.  It sure was, and I found numerous treasures there.  Since then, the $5 or Less Bookstore has expanded and moved to a larger facility, gained more staff, and became more organized.  Those who work there are genuinely kind towards the clients.  They put cute and entertaining signs around the store to remind the clients that they are there to help or to mention things like their open mic nights and that the DVDs are alphabetized.  Their prices can't be beat!  Even though I am a college student, I can go in and buy every book that I feel like getting, then walk out with a bag full of books and a wallet that still has plenty of money left over!  The paperback books are only $2-$3.  Online at Amazon, it usually costs $3.99 just to ship books, then you have to wait to get them.  But with this bookstore, you get the books you want almost instantly AND cheaper!  On top of that, you're supporting a local business!  It's a win/win situation!

This book store rocks!  Every time I have been, I always find really good treasures on their "bargain wall": great quality and popular books for 50 cents.  The staff goes above and beyond to assist with all book finding needs, as we experienced first hand.  I will go back again and again!  They also have a good selection of graphic novels and comic books, not to mention some DVD's.  Really cool place to browse and find good reads!

This is not a bookstore to find software programming books (last I looked there were none).  However, give yourself time to browse around and you'll find hidden gems here and there.  I bought a beautiful leather-bound Aesop's Fables book printed in 1979 for $5.  Just saw the exact same item being sold on eBay between $40-$50.  I think that deserves 5 stars :-)

Amazing Book Store - I couldn't believe the selection of beautiful books they offered at $5 or less. Most of the books look brand new and the used ones still look in VG condition. There is plenty of parking and the store itself has a nice spacious feel. I highly recommend visiting this store before any other major chain.....great way to save some $$$

I love this bookstore so much. Amazing deals and amazing book selection. A lot of rare reads. They even have a vintage section.

The workers are very friendly and helpful. Very relaxing, cozy environment. From the outside you would never realize how great this place really is. I've seen other used bookstores but you can't beat the prices.

It's hard for me to own books because I usually don't read anything twice but this place makes me actually want to own books.

I adore this bookstore! There are so many books here, both new (or at least they look new) and used, and there is a HUGE assortment, too. I've bought comic strip books (Foxtrot), novels, health books, etc. from this bookstore all under $5 each. It's so cool. The workers are very friendly, the store itself is huge, and it is very well-kept.

I love this place. It's a great way to spend a lunch break. I gave 4 stars because it could use some better organization but exploring is fun! The staff have always been helpful and courteous. Plenty of parking. A good idea. Tip: I take girls here to get better aquainted.

Stopped in here a couple weeks ago just to browse. Umm, three hours and a huge bagful of books later, and only having spent $30, I was very pleased.

Most of the staff is super helpful. There was a manager type who just glowered but whatever, at least the lowly peons were pleasant and helpful.

A little tip - if you are looking for something specific, try different categories. Let's say you're looking for a book on Abraham Lincoln. You might look in HISTORY or in WARS.

The place is huge - wear comfy shoes! It's laid out nicely and very organized.

    Happy reading!
