Review from Chris A.
I don't get to Yakima very often. Until now I haven't found any restaurants worth talking about in this town.
The atmosphere was very pleasant. Comfortable lighting and music blends politely in to the background. The Copper ceiling and rock wall compliment the artwork. But enough about the atmosphere, it is all about the food.
I hate to judge a place on one dish, but I won't be back for a year and I won't remember it then when I have my second dish. So there you have it, it is worth coming back to. I had the scallops, they were good. Would rate them a 4 out of 5.
If you are in Yakima and have $25 for dinner, give it a try. -

This space has apparently changed hands a few times, but its current incarnation has been open since May '11. With the restaurant adjacent to Gilbert Cellars, this little area has some pretty swanky establishments in these two venues.
5 North is fairly big. In the front & streetside section of the restaurant you have the bar area. When I went here, it was loud, and there was a game on the TV. So, this struck me as a decent place to go if you wanted to chill.
I however was here for dinner. My friend and I had a table in the back. The accommodations and setting were nice back here, but there are no windows, so that lends to a cave-like feel. The staff were very nice, and helpful as I waited. The menu is fairly extensive, and it looks like there is push for items which are local and in season---both very good things.
We had a decent meal here. It wasn't drop to your feet good, and something I'd go out of my way for, but it's definitely on my list of dining options when in the Palm Springs of Washington. -

Me, a local dude, the bartender and an off duty waitress had a pretty good time one night a while back. I need to go back here and try that lamb burger.

We came here for dinner a few times. Their meat quality is good and their sexy fries are a must! I think my favorite part of the meal were the fries, shoestring fries topped with garlic and habanero ketchup for dipping. Soo good! And attentive staff as well.

Good variety of flavorful dishes. I ordered a savory gnocci dish with a salad. Service was pleasant and cheerful as well as attentive.

I dont understand the bad review. Was that a plug for the other restaurant due to competition? Dunno but I can only speak to my experience. A party of ours went there while in town with not a lot of expectations but this place was great and far exceeded our expectations. The Melange place was closed so I suppose Colette got lucky since I wanted to actually go there to begin with. BUT as happenstance happens, this place was open if a bit worrying because it was not busy. But man oh man what a revelation.
We all ordered food and were amazed with what came out. The handmade mushroom ravioli was just that. The pesto was a vibrant green and incredibly fragrant. It was a stunning dish and to be honest I did not expect anything like this to show up in Yakima. I also ordered the Lamb burger which was amazing. The "sexy" fries are hand cut and fresh but really should be bigger. Those need a bit of work but have potential. The habanero ketchup was a tomato sauce more than a ketchup and there was no heat that I could tell from the habanero but it was good and fresh. It was very good and the portion was good.
The clincher however came in the form of the desserts. What a way to end, in particular the creme brulee with the chocolate at the bottom. It was great. The only criticism I have is that the portion should be a bit bigger. I've criticized the ramikin creme brulee's else where and chefs need to stop that shit. We also had the Yakima apple pie which was very good and was more of a bread pudding.
The short here is that if you want great food that is fresh, vibrant and very good then eat here. If you think Red Robin is great, well go there instead. This place is wasted on you and frankly I'd rather not read your lame review damning this place. Its been a long time since I sent a compliment back to the kitchen.
PS the photo is washed out as the working camera had no flash. Its much more vibrant in real life, bright lucious rich green. -

I'm giving this 5 starts for my expectations. I'd probably give it 4.5 and ding it ever so slightly for atmosphere for the room we sat in (other rooms looked nicer but we purposefully sat at the bar).
I was there with a large group (8 of us I think) and everyone was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the lamb burger which was delicious. I loved the fries that came with it too. My girlfriend got one of the pasta dishes which I sampled and that was delicious too.
The creme brulee we got for dessert was absolutely delicious. Overall it was one of the best meals I've had in a while and it totally caught me off guard. I didn't expect to find such yummy food in a place like Yakima.
We almost missed it because I am a slave to Yelp ratings and the one bad review was pulling down the rating so I felt I had to step up and give the place the props it deserves! -

Having frequented 5 North on several occasions for a variety of reasons (from happy hour with friends to a special family dinner to a private corporate party), I can attest to the consistently fantastic food, exceptionally friendly waitstaff (all of whom endeavor to learn your name), and warm yet vibrant atmosphere! The bar is fun for happy hour or football, while the restaurant is elegant enough for a romantic dinner or special celebration. I've had the halibut, lamb burger, mahi mahi, and scallops. All were delicious and served in manageable portions. If you're looking for piles of brown food served in enormous portions, this isn't the place for you. If you appreciate quality food and wine (did I fail to previously mention the amazing wine list??!!?) this place is one of the best in Yak!!

This place is good for Yakima... We need more from scratch restaurants and less pre-made from Sysco crap. Love the fresh pasta, (specifically the linguini with fresh pesto) the realistic sized portions & the awesome bartender Tracy! The sesame encrusted halibut (juicy and crispy), hand-made mushroom ravoli, juicy lamb burger with sexy fries, and pretty much everything is a hit! As an app they have these delish root veggie chips dusted with sea salt, I think they use parsnips, purple potato & carrots. I wish they would serve them for free for the flys at the barstools, keep 'em drinking : ) Either way, I very much enjoy 5 North and I'll be back as much as I can!

Thanks to other Yelpers, I found and tried this place while in Yakima on business. As many raved about the lamb burger, I had to give it a try. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere was nice; the service attentive without being overbearing. I will eat here again next time I'm in Yakima.
