Frisco, TX
Either I'm really a neat freak (not really) or there is some false advertising going on in the name of this place since one napkin was sufficient. Then again, "1 Napkin Burger" doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the patron waiting to bust through the glass doors and tackle the titular burger mouth-first so I kind of get their schtick here. And if you're anything like me, and I know I am, you quickly put this thought aside as you dive into your worth-the-wait burger and beer.
We got here per the recommendation of the concierge at the hotel and right there I have a feeling I lost about all the native New Yorkers reading this since they have to know where the upper echelon of burger delight resides in the city. Nonetheless, we arrived on a Friday morning and the place was hopping for lunch. The front desk staff was attentive and spotted a table outside on the patio where our party could sit. We walked through a fairly large dining room with spacious seats, a lengthy bar and another set of doors to get to our table.
Once seated, someone was immediately at our side with water but come on now: we passed a bar on the way to our table. Do you think the mere mortal qualities of water are going to suffice in this journey towards burger glory? Of course not. I flipped the menu over and found the beer section and euphoric bliss assumed control of my brain (as is prone to happen whenever alcohol is involved). The thing that set this place above other burger establishments, or, really, most other eateries, was the somewhat exotic selection of brews. Maybe I'm just living a sheltered life (one look at my profile picture will tell you that's not true) or maybe I'm ignorant (more likely) but I have not had the pleasure of quite a few of these. The waitress appeared and was ready for our drink order but I was not sure what to do. In my panic, I focused on something called "Sly Fox India Pale Ale" and knowing that foxes are typically cool, I went with that. Before long, a can of beer was set before me and the taste was refreshing beyond belief, easily capable of washing off the foam-like taste of the omelet they served on the plane ride over here that morning. So I guess I kind of just compared this beer to a palette cleanser with caustic capabilities but trust me: it's good.
And speaking of "good," I gather that's what the rest of my group thought of their meals. We all got burgers and we all finished them. I confess, I ordered this bacon cheddar burger that was probably "death on a plate," but oh, was it worth it. Depending on your religious preference (which is always a great way to start a sentence), you may be familiar with a river of blood as an act of retribution. By the time I was done with my meal, there was a literal river of grease running the length of my plate. And while it wasn't quite a biblical experience, it was phenomenal. The fries were infectious in their addictive qualities and as I type this I'm not sure how I managed to crawl away from the table since my legs refused to work after all the excess weight I consumed was placed upon them.
Service could have been a bit better but two things must be taken into consideration: Friday lunches are busy and our poor waitress had, I think, the entire patio, and it wraps around the corner of the building. Then again, perhaps this was a deliberate act on her part because she knew if any of us stood up, the results would be catastrophic and she would have to block off a busy walk in the city until the three of us woke up from our food-based comas.
Whatever the case, don't let the number of napkins scare you away with their daunting thoughts of messy meals. And don't show up in a rain poncho, either, thinking that will help alleviate the mess you make. You're going to be fine with one napkin, maybe two. -

Meh for the veggie burger here. I have absolutely NO IDEA how the veggie burger has been short-listed on so many "best veggie burger in NYC" lists. I got this burger and at first, wasn't even sure it was a veggie burger. I had to ask my friend if it looked like a veggie burger. During the whole meal I was trying to figure it out. I just didn't get it. In the bun and out of the bun, it had no taste. I won't be coming back here. I can't believe an establishment like this can't do better. I had such high expectations for this place too.
And I found this place to be SO loud. I could barely hear my friend sitting across from me. -

I came here for lunch a little while back and enjoyed it. Since there were only two of us, we didn't have to wait for a table though there were lots of people in line. The food was a bit pricey for what it was, but good. The service was standard. All in all, a good experience.
My friend and I shared the Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip, which was amazing! Definitely the highlight of the meal! The bread was perfectly toasted and the dip was gooey and just so great! I also had the Peanut Chicken Salad, which was standard. I liked the dressing, but then again, I generally love ginger dressing. If you come here, get the dip, that's what's gonna get me to come back! -

Incredible burgers! I had a bacon cheeseburger and my friend had their mushroom burger. Both were great and perfectly cooked, which seems to be very hard to do in New York. Just the right amount of pink in my medium burger.
There are plenty of eye-candy servers, and ours was very friendly and came to the table just the right number of times. The food was delivered almost suspiciously quickly, and it tasted delicious! The french fries are a bit of a disappointment, but the burger more than makes up for it.
The downside is that it's so popular that the wait is sometimes long. We only waited 20 minutes, but the first time I tried to go, the wait was more like 45 minutes and it was freezing outside. If there's a large crowd, you really can't wait inside at the bar.
Overall, definitely stop in for a great burger, great service and decent mid-town pricing. -

A good go-to burger spot in the neighborhood. It's always crowded, the food is good, the place is nice inside, and the menu is large enough that everyone will find something they like. I especially like the tuna burger, sweet potato fries, and burger salad. It's good for groups and never too crazy of a wait. -

When in doubt, just order the Original 5 Napkin Burger. Rosemary Aioli, Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions -- what more do you need? Remember, a great burger doesn't need all the fixings if it's made correctly.
Don't forget the SALTED CARAMEL shake! Absolutely sinful! -

Incredible ... Just order the original and you will be very very pleased. Delicious, unique, substantial, and the salad and sweet potato fries were great additions. The line was forming at 6pm Tuesday but there was plenty of seating at 5:15 ... sit near the windows and be entertained by this unusual city as it saunters by in its many forms. The only arguably inauthentic feature: the waiters were not classic New York gruff and instead were attentive, pleasant, and patient!

Excellent, excellent, excellent burgers! 5 Napkin Burgers are probably some of the best burgers in the city. Everything from the Blue Cheese burgers to even their veggie burgers are sensational. 5 Napkins Burgers always loads up the cheese, bacon and topping creating almost an orgasmic experience for your taste buds, but certain hell for your arteries! Their onion rings are an absolute MUST HAVE to accompany your burger. They are never too oily, always fresh and thick cut onions that are incredible. The bar area is also nice and relaxing if you have to wait for a table.
5 Napkins Burgers definitely deserves 5 stars! -

BEST BURGERS EVER! a few friends and I went on a nice Sunday afternoon, and there was a wait of about 20 mins for 5, which I think is pretty reasonable. We wanted to sit outside but only parties of 4 or less are allowed do to some city permit.
Once we were seated we had the artichoke dip which was great, our waitress was very attentive and came every few minutes to make sure everything was fine.
Now on to the burgers. I had the cheddar bacon burger, and there's a reason why it's called 5 napkin burger, you need more than 5 napkins while eating. The burgers are so juicy, and HUGE so come with an appetite! They all come with fries or other side which are all delicious as well. My friend had the lamb burger and he raved it was awesome!

I finally made it to 5 Napkin burger and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. I believe they have taken the top spot in my $15/burger places to eat passing Bare Burger.
Outdoor seating on the west side is a great way to enjoy a great tasting burger. It is satisfying to have a burger that you don't have to touch the ketchup bottle for.
I would suggest the Barbecue Burger, don't get thrown off by the Relish ingredient. The burger is great. Shoe string fries are good too. -

A friend chose this place for dinner and I wondered why she didn't choose the one on 14th street, that one seems more spacious. I felt like we were sitting on top of each other. I'm not a fan of burgers, but I think I know a good burger when I see one; this place may be a bit overrated. The service here was great though!
I had a turkey burger, which i split with my friend and i had some of her lobster roll. It was average, nothing that blew me away. I also had a salted caramel shake and it had a nice consistency, creamy and thick, just a tad sweeter than I expected it to be. My friend ordered a burger and it looked good, but i don't believe it was THAT good. I might give the 14th street location a try. -

My girlfriend discovered this place in December of last year and we've been trying to go ever since. We finally had a chance two Fridays ago when we saw Peter and the Starcatcher on Broadway. The theater is close enough is 5 Napkin's location in Hell's Kitchen, so we walked over before the show. Since dining here was a rather last minute decision, tried to make reservations for 6pm, but the earliest slot was 7pm. With the show starting at 8, we didn't want to cut it too close wit a 7pm reservation and just decided to chance it and walk in.
Anyways, upon arriving at 6, the place was filled to the brim and had people waiting. We were told the wait for two, to eat indoors, was 45 minutes. We put our name on the list and briefly pondered eating elsewhere, but then noticed people eating outside on the sidewalk. Upon asking if we could also eat outside, we were seated immediately. Was eating outside the way to go? Yes and no, because it was a bit chilly out and there was a ton of noisy traffic on the street. You can't fault the restaurant for that tho. The service outside was very friendly, tho a bit slow.
As for the food, we shared a Bacon-Cheddar Burger, Ahi Tuna Burger, sweet potata fries and Macaroni & Cheese. All were very yummy, but the burgers are huge. The Bacon-Cheedar burger was cooked medium rare and was tasty, juicy, meaty and succulent. I could feel my arteries clogging as I ate it. My gf ordered her Ahi Tuna burger cooked medium - I would've asked for it rare, but that's just me. Anyways, her burger was good too, but medium is not the way to eat tuna. Again, not the restaurant's fault and I could tell the true flavors of this burger were lost in the choice of having it cooked medium. The sweet potato fries were also very yummy and not greasy or oily. They had a very nice sweet potato flavor. The Macaroni & Cheese was yummy and creamy, with pasta that was perfectly cooked.
We also stopped back late last week just for take out. We both got the original 5 Napkin burger to go. I really liked it, despite the fact that it sat in my fridge for a few days before I reheated it. I can only imagine what it tasted like when served hot off the grill. -

I just think this place is insanely overrated.
For the price of one five napkin burger, I can practically get four burgers from shake shack, which aren't dry, bland, and mediocre (ya know, like 5 napkin burger). The drinks are overpriced, and that's if you can get a seat at the overcrowded bar.
I did like the concept of the fried pickles and pastrami, but at the price for the small portion, I'm not sure i get it again (did I mention it's also overpriced).
Staff is friendly, but I'd avoid this tourist trap.
Also, I only got one napkin. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT?! -

1.) The Beer Menu: They have a ton of options for beer. Only a few options for cocktails, but my wife said she thought there were a fair assortment for anyone.
2.) We got the tower of onion rings and they were amazing. The sauce that comes with them is out of this world.
3.) I got the original, my wife got the Avocado and both of us were very happy.
Totally worth it! -

The best burger I've ever had. Period. My daughter and I enjoyed our signature 5 napkin burger. It had meleted guyure(sp) cheese and carmelized onions and a rosemary aioli. The meat was cooked perfectly (medium) and was the juiciest burger hands down! I must say that the onion rings were pretty awesome too. They had a cornmeal breading and weren't greasy like others I've tried. It is an expensive burger ($15) including fries, but well worth it! The place was packed and we were lucky to get an outside table within 10 minutes. As busy as it was, the service was quick and curteous. I highly suggest you try it!

I recently visited the Hell's Kitchen 5 Napkin Burger for a celebratory lunch with my girlfriend and buddy for their Residency Match Day. The service and staff was quite accommodating - letting us choose our seating without fuss.
I ordered the 5 Napkin Veggie Burger as part of a quest to find the finest veggie burger in the city. I enjoyed the burger overall. Nice beer selection. The 5N sauce makes this burger pretty good. I have to admit I really enjoyed the crispy thin fries they served with the burger. We also ordered onion rings on a whim as we were waiting - pretty solid set of rings. Anyway, a decent veggie burger. I obviously cannot comment on any of the real burgers. -

I still really like this place. The burgers are good and the service is always excellent. We had a very large group and our server and the manager that night did a fantastic job taking care of us.
This time I had the Inside Out Burger. It's basically a burger wrapped in lettuce - I love that they give this option. The meat on the burger is pretty thick and hearty - it has the homemade feel. You will be full after eating it.
Best part of the meal - a very nice man decided to pay it forward. Yes! He picked up our $250 bill. What a night!Listed in: Angeleno in NYC

I wish I had 2 more hands so I could give this place 4 thumbs down.
I haven't actually eaten here, so this has nothing to do with the food. I was trying to eat here, but prevented. This has everything to do with service.
My girlfriend called A WEEK IN ADVANCE to book an admittedly large party of 16. The unhelpful person on the phone explained the restaurant's policy of only taking reservations for 12. However, if we showed up with the 16, i.e. just walked in off the street, they could accommodate us. My girlfriend was confused - either by the policy itself or the explanation - and was met with a bitchy attitude*. Girlfriend obviously hung up.
*FYI people who work in the service industry, retail, at the airport - whatever - if you interact with people, leave your shitty fucking attitude at home. I don't think I'm better than you, so don't get in my face as if I'm looking down on you. In fact, I treat you better than I treat people I know because it's awkward needing help/being waited on by a stranger.
After we talked about this, I suggested she call and talk to a manager. She did, and the manager (who WAS nice) basically told her the same thing: if you show up randomly, after a half hour wait you can be seated; otherwise, we can't book 16 people. Girlfriend even suggested making two reservations of 8 people. No dice. (Incidentally, if she called and made a res for 8 people, and then I called immediately after and made a reservation for 8 people, I'm sure there wouldn't have been a problem.)
This makes no sense to me. I understand that if you are worried someone will book half your restaurant and not show up, you don't want a large party. However, there was absolutely no flexibility with these people. I would get it if the reservation was taken with the caveat that if we weren't on time with everyone, they'd cancel the res. FINE.
Clearly, 16 people eating AND DRINKING (we basically all have problems) and spending upwards of $700-$1000 is not something they were interested in.
So in summation - The woman on the phone had/has an unnecessary attitude, and that alone is enough for me to be pissed until the end of time. But on top of that, the stupidity in adhering to a policy which will cost your business money and make me a life long enemy - and the unwillingness to suggest a work around is unforgivable. -
Review from Keith J.
Yes, there is often times a line here and I've had to wait to be seated every time I've been here, during lunch and dinner. The service was not the best any of the times. They do have the best burger in the city that i have found yet though, and that is why I must keep returning. I' ve had the bacon cheeseburger, which is delicious and I've had the classic burger, also delicious. As other reviewers have mentioned, the fries are not the best.
the ambiance of this place is nothing special. The do have outdoor seating in the nicer months, though. The bar has always been crowded, so the 30-45 minute wait to be seated involves pretty much fighting your way through a crowd of people and dodging bus boys and servers. They do have a nice beer selection, however. Really this place wouldn't get 4 stars, but that burger just saves it. Worth the wait and bad service. -

Super mouth watering and lick your fingers and lips burger - the Original 5 Napkin burger that is. The 10 oz burger was cooked perfectly at medium, very juicy and flavorful, the caramelized onions and gruyere cheese were a great combination, while I had the rosemary aioli on the side (and ended up not using it, didn't need it for flavor so why waste the calories). The bun held up well to the juices. The fries were extra crispy, the way I prefer, and also good, though I try to take it easy on fried fries.

Review from Chad S.
When two at the table both agree this place is fun, in unison, then someone better say jinx first or else someone won't be able to speak with her mouthful. In this case you probably shouldn't speak because a recent dental procedure would prevent even the smallest bite out of a ginormous burger sangd-wich.
Living in the area for a while, it's surprising this was my first attempt at 5N burger, and my expectations were only modest considering the greats I have tried before. Fantastic beer selection at a bar you'll almost certainly be waiting at for ~30 min before being seated. There are possibly 50 different beers on the menu and surely one for every palate.
The prices are very reasonable for the city and the people who work there are smart and friendly about the menu. In warmer months you can enjoy 5N from the 9th avenue sidewalk too.
First bight of my "Five Napkin Burger" selection, impression was impressed above most of the rest. I would have to put the burger in a top 10. The fried onions, gruyere cheese, rosemary, and whatever other rich flavor atop a thick, homemade, juicy burger (as well as awesome fries included with the order) put me in a state between what I believed and what I wanted to believe. But yes, I was convinced this burger was great. -

Where 5 napkins isn't just a name, but a necessity.
Food: 4.5 Stars
I can say with a little bit of difficulty that 5 Napkin has the best burger I've ever eaten. Considering the quantity of restaurants I've eaten burgers at is low, but none the less an achievement. The Original 5 Napkin burger is 10 ounces of medium-rare heaven. The meat is top notch quality and the caramelized onions, cheese and rosemary aioli blend together perfectly. With all the juices flowing from the burger you will most certainly need 5 napkins.
The bacon-cheddar cheeseburger is another very good 10 oz burger, but it doesn't compare to the original 5 napkin burger. (Maybe next time I should ask for caramelized onions of the bacon-cheeseburger since that's one of my weaknesses).
The steak frites (fries) is a solid dish, but can be a little tough. For starters the Onion rings are a great recommendation with two sauces for dipping (blue cheese and 5N sauce). The blue cheese sauce is good, but very pungent, so I recommend the 5N sauce to not overpower the onion rings. The artichoke and spinach dip is standard and a good dish to be shared by 2 people.
Drinks: 4 Stars
I don't think you can find a much larger beer menu, except at a beer garden. 5 Napkins a list of a few dozen beers from light to dark and everything in between. I have eaten here twice now, and both times I just picked a random beer (Goose Island & Eye of the Hawk). The mixed drinks are rather non-existent, but for after dinner drinks there is also a wide selection of whiskeys and scotches. Since I love my alcohol I didn't pay any real attention to the soda's, but the milkshakes look delicious. Next time around I'll make sure to try them.
Service: 4 Stars
I have eaten at two locations (Hell's Kitchen & Astoria) and both had a solid standard service. The servers knew what they were doing and talking about. Our orders came out correctly, and they followed up with us at the right times during the meal.
Ambiance: 4 Stars
The decor is standard for a restaurant in the city. My only complaint is regarding the lighting. It was rather difficult for our group to read the menu's at the Hell's Kitchen location (Astoria we were seated at a window). We had to use candlelight and our phones to read the menu's properly. Other than that, the noise around us was average, but a little cramped. Groups of 2 to 4 are probably more suited for this location over larger groups.
Overall: 4.25 Stars
I think 5 Napkin Burger is a solid restaurant and a must go for people who enjoy hamburgers. It is also a great place for beer fans since their selection is large and high in great tasting beers. 5 Napkin has a good environment to bring a date. The prices are a little higher than most burger places, but you receive a filling meal using high quality ingredients. -

If you haven't been here yet, act like you have then sneak in later. Their burgers are absolutely amazing. Pricier than your average burgher but absolutely worth it. I'd recommend the house special. The caramelized onions gives it a very distinct taste. My absolute favorite in Manhattan

I've been to this place a handful of times now, you normally have to reserve to get a table as often there is a line. If you want a great burger then this is the place to go. If the place is busy then the service often goes down hill and for some reason I always seem to get the server who has a trainee server glued to them. The fries that turn up with the burger are not fantastic, they are too thin and often cooked to hell and back.
On this occasion I had the Italian chicken tenders. It seems that the only thing you need to do to turn "chicken tenders" into "Italian chicken tenders" is throw some oregano on top. The dish came with "Tuscan" fries which appeared to be normal fries with garlic salt and cheese.
The place also serves Sushi but call me a cynic but I'd rather get my Sushi at a place that doesn't specialise in burgers. -

Nope! Not over rated! Yumm all the way! Service was great, food was better! Burger with cheddar, avocado, rosemary garlic aioli, tomato on soft white bun (they let us customize). So freaking good, cooked medium rare. We upgraded the fries for onion rings and sweet potato fries. Adding in a side of Mac n Cheese. HEAVEN! Topped off with the espresso brownie sundae. Moms who crave sushi rejoice! If you have kids you always end up at the pizza joints, burger joints, italian places that make you eat too many carbs and the food is less than stellar? Finally a place I can go to get a good sushi fix while my kids chomp burgers or mac and cheese. (It is no nobu but it is definitely above average) BTW kids menu is a rip off- $10 burger for a kid really? Just get the regular burger for $14 and split it between the little ones. That is value. Plus there is a side of broccoli you can order that the kids can eat at the beginning of the meal (ask your server!) Since they are hungry that stuff goes right down the hatch.
I honestly was enjoying my sushi too much to care what the kids were eating..... -

Before I got here I heard there was always a good wait so I made a reservation, but don't think that helped much. Either way it can't hurt so make one as well.
Once I was seated all the service was quick and efficient but also friendly. Both of us ordered a burger. I went with the brunch burger topped. The egg really added this delicious creaminess on top of the burger and was great for dipping the fries in. The meat is light and full of flavor. This place can definitely stand with the best burger places in the country -

One of my favorite burger spots!
My husband took me here on a Thursday around 3 pm and it was packed! The wait wasn't that long tho, about 15 minutes.
My husband was always raving about this place, he used to work for company and said it was one of the best burger spots in NYC. And so there we were.
I ordered the original 5 napkin burger and my husband ordered the bacon cheddar. It was amazing, gruyere cheese is my favorite and it paired well with the rosemary oil. Burger patty was cooked perfectly mid rare, and I may be wrong but it definitely tasted like Pat La Frieda beef. I ate every last bite. -

Let me first preface this by saying how could I give this 4 stars when I gave Shake Shack 5 stars, and acknowledge that overall the burger is better quality meat? Well, it's a different kind of establishment, and its price point is around twice as high. For the price, it is a VERY solid establishment, good ambiance, very good service every time I go, and the burgers are amazing.
I usually go with a standard bacon cheddar burger, but you must always remember to get it cooked medium rare. I used to be a cook medium person, but at better quality meat locations such as 5 napkin you absolutely MUST order medium rare. Go hungry, because the burgers are pretty big, sometimes it can be a bit unwieldy, so be prepared to also cut it in half. My experiences have been very good here, and if I ever wanted a sit down burger experience that's a bit more fancy than my regular Shake Shack fare, I would go here.
I've also reserved my 5 star rating for Minetta Tavern which I hear has even higher quality burgers, check back soon for my review on that when I eat there. But for now, this is my favorite sit down burger place in New York.Listed in: Burgers

We really love this place. My husband and daughter had burgers and they were wonderful. I had the crab sliders and they were also delicious. I like fries, but try not to eat too many . . . these were so good they made me go bad and I finished all of them.

My cousin brought me here upon arriving in New York for a vacation. I would have to say that this is definitely one of the best burgers I've had. Tried the 5 Napkin Original and it was just delicious. The meat was thick, juicy and very tasty. The combination of the gruyere cheese and rosemary aoili just made this burger top notch. I even liked their fries, crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. The place has like a bar atmosphere which is great for hanging out with friends. Service was great as well. Highly recommended for anyone visiting New York.
