Are you freaking kidding me with this place?!?! Seriously, this makes me thankful that I do NOT live walking distance to South Pearl because I would be in serious debt. Not because items are exorbitantly expensive (because they are not - an airplane necklace was $24 and a gorgeous skirt with appliques on it was $45) but because everything - honestly, every last thing- is cute/fashionable/fun/makes a good gift.
The store up the street with housewares is cute, but I found it a bit more kitschy... -

Although I appreciate the sentiment behind a nice, knick-knacky store like this, I can't get behind it all the way. I came in looking for pretty much anything: stocking stuffers, last-minute gifts for men or women, interesting home goods, white elephant gifts, gift ideas for myself, gifts for kids, gifts for geeks, you name it. I had heard a lot about this place and though it didn't exactly disappoint it did not fit the bill.
Basically the smaller store is the super girly store with jewelry and clothes, and the "big" store (I do not believe their 3000 sq ft claim) is supposed to be a bit more "unique". I was told they had stuff for guys, stuff a little more interesting, wacky, nerdy, geeky, off-the-beaten-path. Maybe I left the path a long time ago or something, but I just didn't see that. They did have some cool seasonal items, like Christmas tchotchkes and ornaments, and some rather bland straightforward things like smelly candles and things. But so much of it was stuff I have seen in so many places; I had just seen some of their kitchen items in Kohls a few days beforehand. Not exactly unique, though it did fit the aesthetic. I tried to find the guys section, and it is a small niche in a small little alcove. Some socks, male kitch-y things, but that was all. I saw a lot of things I've seen a lot of times before, from amazon to kohls to the mall. And it only takes so many "I look happy but it's just the booze smiling" magnets to make me never need to see one ever again.
I ventured to the small, girlier store. it is definitely girly, but seemed just too old for me. While the items in the big store made me feel like the grizzled blowhard who has no sense of humor, this store made me feel 20 years too young. Lots of hats, scarves, sweaters. Some of the jewelry is pretty but in that young grandma way. Also, in a store so small you can practically smell what everyone had for lunch on their breath, I find it a little ridiculous that I walked in, wandered through the whole store, and never got acknowledged by any employee. Instead, one employee chose to ask the other if she wanted to see the other's dog. So, out the first girl trotted, and brought in her giant dog into a very tiny store. Sort of neat that there was a friendly dog? Yes, but not when I was interested in an item in the case, but couldn't ask anyone because they were all busy blocking the exit petting fido while getting paid to do so. -

Unique gift ideas as well as unusual, hipster cool, complimentary gift wrapping. Awesome holiday decor including eclectic ornaments - my mom is currently obsessed with birds and I was able to get some nice gifts for her.
Very different household items with an upper end price point. A great place to poke around in.
The smaller 5 green boxes up the street sells more gift items including one of a kind jewelry. Clothing and shoes round out their selections. -

Tons, tons, tons of cute kitsch up ins.
I came in here a good while ago and was greeted by a friendly lady and was asked if I was looking for anything in particular. As in, anything. Because, they had--everything! Everything you need or think you need to make your house the one everybody wants to come over to.
It has things you want to give away as gifts but want to keep for yourself. Which is totally okay; their prices aren't ridiculous so you can completely buy TWO of those parasols.
I actually need to get back here and again peruse and purchase some of the neatest and cutest things I have seen. EVER. -

What a great find - I stopped in the small Jewelry store first which is decked out with clothes, shoes, purses, bags, and tons of jewelry. I am always so ecstatic to find these places that cater to local artists and new and unique one of a kind pieces. I must have looked around for an hour - if you have ever been you may be thinking "What was she looking at for an hour" - every where you look it's like you missed something or something new appeared out of no where. I ended up walking out with a one of a kind bracelet made out of gift cards - that's right I said it - GIFT CARDS! It is awesome and it will match the gift card earrings I have. I am docking 1 star because the woman working said Hello to everyone else but me and for some reason helped everyone else but me. She warmed up at the end, but the beginning was rough - I will give her another chance.
If you walk a block further down Pearl Street you find the matching 5 Green Boxes that has cards, stationary, books, children's stuff, cookware, and PLANTS - yes I said plants. They even have outdoor space showcasing all their little plant gems. Make sure you look at all the furniture too, they have a lot to offer and the prices range from really inexpensive to a bit pricey - something for everyone. They are non-discriminating.
I will definitely be back often to check out new inventory and stock up for myself or for gifts. This would be a great place for gift buying - unique enough to start great conversations. -

I have been a raving fan of this store for years. It has moved a few times but still has everything you need when heading to a birthday party, wedding shower, housewarming etc. The best part of this shop is that they wrap the gifts in adorable ways so that I don't have to have wrapping paper at home or buy it on my way to the special event.
Please support this local business, you won't be disappointed. -

I can't believe I waited so long to visit this place! I stopped in last week during a round of last-minute pre-vacation errands and am sooo glad I did.
This is the type of home dec store where I could seriously get myself in trouble. I immediately spotted a ton of the most adorable things: mini cat and chicken staplers (I have a soft spot for whimsy), a bright yellow cow creamer, the.cutest.ever lunchbox-style purses shaped like lemons and watermelons (they were in the "kids" section, but who cares??), a calculator that looks like a chocolate bar, and just random, random adorable things. I surveyed their sale rack at great length, and managed to walk out with two fistfuls of custom-painted carabiners which I took with me to Greece as gifts for the group I'm meeting up with. Whimsical, yet useful, right? And what says Colorado more than a carabiner? Ok, don't answer that.
Anyhow, I can't wait until the next time I get to visit this amazing spot and peruse the rest of the store and patio. I'll be baaaaaaaack. -

I am a man, in good standing, and I love 5 Green Boxes. There. I said it. I say this mostly because every time I go in there, it's almost always fully populated with members of the finer gender (which I very much like). Women with taste.
In that way (and in that way only) it's like a fabric store. I refinished an antique fainting couch and had the pleasure of selecting some fabric to reupholster with. Gentleman, if you wish to get hit on, try the fabric store. Females will think you are sensitive kinda guy.
5GB is a great store with fantastic decor and eclectic items for sale. Whether you've been there and know they have a type of item, are looking for some new ideas, or are in the market for a cool gift (in a wide variety of price ranges), I recommend popping in here.
I recently gave a guy friend of mine grief for driving a VW New Beetle. Au contraire, mon frere he corrected - he finds that he has favorable heads turn.
So gentlemen, if you don't want to get caught dead in a fabric store, or don't want to pony up for a New Beetle, go to 5 Green Boxes, find cool stuff, and strike up a conversation. Beats the snot out of trying to get a date by hitting up someone with an attempt at casual conversation in the frozen food section. -

I think the location is the only reason this store isn't more well known, at least judging by the lack of reviews on Yelp about it. If it were on Broadway it would put some of the more overpriced but hip stores out of business. In fact, many of the items you find here you will see at Decade, but for half the price. I found a little small wooden box for $5, when I paid $9.50 for the exact same at Decade a month ago.
It is also about 5x the size, so they have much more eclectic inventory. It still has that botique feel to it, and smells heavenly. I want my house to look like this store (maybe not as cluttered), but somehow I don't think the male in my life would go for that. It's primarily focused around somewhat feminine decor, cooking accessories, and gifts.
They also don't have clothes, which I consider a good thing. -

This is the little clothing boutique that is an extension of my favorite store in Denver. The clothes are bright and gauzy. Very light and perfect for summer or a beach destination. There are lots of hats and scarves, and shoes and bags in addition to beautiful dresses and skirts.I liked everything. Some garments were very affordable, while others seemed overpriced. The sales rack out front is the way to go.

RE: 5 Green Boxes (The "Smaller" Store)
The smaller clothing store has some really, pretty unique stuff (I was tempted to buy a small cloth coin purse that reminded me of a Persian rug but at $7.95 I had to pass.)
The gauzy clothing made me want to book a trip on a beach somewhere (not going to happen anytime soon........) Artsy, international, chic, fashionable.......reasonable (as compared to a department store.)
What? Shoes, skirts, shirts, dresses, scarves, jewelry & accessories.
Great selection. Fun window shopping.1 Previous Review: Show all »

What girl doesn't love a great boutique? What keeps me from buying things at boutiques are the boutique prices.
That's why I'm always pleasantly surprised when I walk into 5 Green Boxes. Adorable, handcrafted items that don't make your eyes bug out when you look at the price tag.
This is a great place to go to pick up gifts for friends and family...more often than not, I usually end up finding something for myself too!Listed in: I can't eat it

I visited the 5 Green Boxes location that is on the south end of Pearl (I think 1705 S. Pearl.) This store is so stinking cute! I went in with a girlfriend and we had a good time digging through the clothes, hats and jewelry and trying on some of the delicious body scents. I bought a hat at 5 Green Boxes and my friend purchased the cutest gloves. She said that she regularly goes to 5 Green Boxes for gifts and I can see why! You can find lots of little, unique treasures at the store (so unique that we couldn't find matching necklace pendants as a memento of our trip there) and the price range varies so there's something for everyone.
I would encourage anyone looking for a good half hour of wandering in a funky, stylish store to stop by 5 Green Boxes! I would liken it to Decade and The Artisan Center - two of my favorite shopping/gift spots in Denver. Enjoy! -

I love this little store, actually there are two of them. I go there often when I need to get a gift. They have a unique selection of home decor, cards, nick-knacks, and furniture. A lot of the furniture is one of a kind, rehabbed and fab! The staff is good, not overly friendly, but will help you find something if you ask!
My favorite part of 5 green boxes, is when you buy a gift, they wrap it so well! Fun and creative wrapping jobs that I envy... the wrapping is almost as good as the gift.... -

Thanks Leslie! I was searching for Decade because I need to find a birthday gift for my best friend and Five Green Boxes came back in my search results.
I've been a fan of this store for years but often forget about it because, as you said, it is not on my normal shopping route. But this store has some of the cutests and most unique gifts and home decor in town. I think I'll go out of the way home from my job on South Broadway to hit them up tonight. -

I live around the block from this store, so I find myself just wandering in often. There is a ton of unique things (little and big) in the store.
Great decorations for holidays (Halloween, Christmas, etc.). Definitely not what you'll find at the big box stores.
Just wish I could afford their furniture. Beautiful! -

I liked this place for its interesting and eclectic merchandise, and surprisingly affordable gift items. I'll definitely be back to get stuff for my mom, who usually digs on that Anthropologie, Cost Plus type vibe.
The only reason 5 Green Boxes gets three stars instead of four is that the service was pretty mediocre. I didn't get so much as a hello when I stepped into the shop, despite the fact that there were two women working and one who was obviously someone in charge (an owner or manager or something). This is also the main reason I didn't buy anything today... Though I don't like being jumped on like I'm at the Gap or something, I appreciate a greeting and the offer to answer questions from the sales staff.
Come on, ladies- you are close enough to Wash Park that snubbing someone sweaty from a bike ride may be a poor approach to customer service. Maybe next time I'm in you could at least smile and say hi. -

Green boxes is adorable! Everything in the place is a treasure! They have the most unique gifts, furniture, aprons, baby knit wear, lamps, cards, and so much more. Most items are hand-made by artisans. if you're a visual person, like me, you'll be elated! Everywhere you look is a feast for your eye's.
If you have an artsy person in your life this is where you must come to get them a unique gift. If you're an artsy type you'll have a ball, bring your wallet.Listed in: spoil yourself

This is my favorite local gift shop.. when I want to get something thoughtful and unique this is my go to place. They have tons of cute and quirky gifts that range from things like unique coat hangers, to funky books, to silly pins, creative cards, and lots of adorable kids clothing/toys. One of the great things about this place is that they have things that range from $1 to several hundred dollars so they can cater to all types of budgets. They have really cute, colorful, and pretty house decorations (lamps, table mats, coat hooks, rugs) that can go along way into give your home personality and warmth. Not only is this store great, but it's in a great location where you are surrounded by other cool boutiques and eateries so that it can become part of a Sunday Funday!

This place is cute. I went in there to look for my favorite perfume and they didn't have it, so the friendly lady gave me samples of a bunch of their other stuff so I could try it! I'd go back for unique tights, purses, jewelry, hats, socks, and yummy smelling stuff. Plus it's a treat to walk up and down south Pearl Street.

Love this store! They have fabulous stuff. If you ever need a gift and don't know what to get, go here, you will find something great. Lots of different house things, baby things, paper, candles, fun, quirky things. The felted, upholstered chairs are works of art! I go here with my mom just to get a mood pick-me-up sometimes. Fun store.
