I've been here a couple times now and it's nice! The bar is modern and sleek inside and the staff is friendly. Try the beef fat fries. They're delicious!

Crowd seems to be a little older than some of the bars in the area so that's a nice change from some of the rowdier bars in the area.

I can never keep the 5 Points and the 5 Spot straight in my mind, and now there is the 5 Corners. Ack!

I stopped in Sunday night for dessert, and Tuesday night for happy hour.  The space layout is exactly the same, which is rather boring, and the dining space feels very crowded.

The creme brulee was a complete disappointment; the custard was warm, and the caramelized top was gooey and slid all over the place, instead of being nice and crispy.

On my return for happy hour a few days later, I had the $5 deviled eggs with jalapeno.  Out came two half eggs.  That's right folks - $5 for one egg.  Go to Ocho for the eggs instead. They are more tasty and the same price.

The happy hour Manhattan (spelled "Manhatten" either to be cute or because someone failed to hit spell check before printing the menu) did not properly fill the martini glass.  While it was tasty, and the bartender Donald was super-nice and knowledgeable, it was not a good deal at $8.

By far the biggest treat was the pastrami-seared foie gras with rye crostini and sour cherry.  Delicious!  Meat butter.  Mmmm.  But, it is no bargain at $16.

The 5 Corners has yet to show me something of value AND flavor that will keep me coming back for more.

What a perfect place to be in Ballard on a crowded  Saturday night. Most patrons that are here tonight are the hipster older folks in the late 40s to mid 50s. We were the youngest table out of all. Its totally make me feel like when you go to a family reunion and you get to be at the kids table and those people are you ma and Pa, aunts and uncles, but in a good way.

The happy hours menu offer ample selection from the main menu. We order the burger, steamed clams and the fish  fries.  All were good, except that the fries are a bit too salty for me. The food are take longer to prepared then what I like     ( about 30 mins). May be due to the limited kitchen staffs. But we in no

I will definitely stop by here again.

Meh.  I was really excited to try this place, but it makes me miss  Lombardis.

When we visited we were given two menus then told we could only order off the Happy Hour menu for another 30 minutes.

The food was okay but the portions weren't were smaller than I would expect even for a tapas appetizer.  It'd also be fair to say the menu was overpriced by a pretty wide margin.

The staff was very friendly but as we sat and looked around we couldn't help but feel like the place was somehow unfinished.  Maybe it's the look their going for but the "Still Under Construction" feel we got led us to finish our drinks quickly and walk somewhere else for dinner.

After not finding parking along Ballard Avenue, my boyfriend and I decided to trek our way towards the Hi-Life and we spotted 5 Corner.  We said, "If it sucks, we'll leave!"  But we did end up staying and here's why:

First off, this place seemed very low key right off the bat and there were plenty of places to sit.  The bar is right off to the left and straight forward are lower tables for lunch/dinner.  We sat right by the window in the bar, where we could drunk-people-watch, which is always a plus.  We ordered our usual drinks (they do have a full-bar) and service was fine!  They played some Bob Marley, some 90's hip hop and really chill music---exactly the atmosphere we were looking for.  I think they close the bar earlier than 2:00 because they did end up having to kick us out--yes we were the last to leave!

Overall, a very good first experience.  We weren't able to try any of their food, but hopefully someday.

Our original plan was to have dinner at Revel but after arriving and being told the wait would be 2 hours we headed to Ballard to try out the 5 Corner Market.  They were able to seat the 4 of us upstairs when we arrived which was great because we were starving.

The menu is really diverse.  We started with the beef fat chips and onion dip (I wish they included more of the dip), the oxtail which was excellent and the foie gras which I didn't care for at all.  They said that the cinnamon bun and bacon icing really worked with it, in my opinion it doesn't.  For entrees we all decided to order something different so we could try a little of each.  JP went with the burger which was solid, but there are better burgers out there.  I ordered the short ribs with mushroom ragu and pappardelle which was excellent and our friends ordered the ribs and the steak.  The ribs with it's mustard glaze were delicious.  The steak was huge and I liked the potato croquettes.

The wine list is kind of all over the place.  They need a few more solid selections in the $30-40 range.

Service was good and if I lived in the hood I would head back here now and again.  It's not going to blow your socks off but it was pretty solid.

We stopped in here today after hearing good things from reliable friends - and we were not disappointed! We sat at the bar & had excellent service & outstanding food! E had their pulled pork sandwich; I had the grilled chicken club sandwich - both were definitely worth a return-trip.

They had a decent beer selection, with a good mix of domestic & imports. The cocktails looked to be creative and yummy, as well.

All in all, a welcome replacement to the Italian joint that occupied the space before (based solely on our personal tastes; we never actually tried the last place). We'll definitely be back for more!

Came here with a girlfriend for happy hour after wanting to try this place since it opened. We came in at about 5pm on a Wednesday night, and it was us and one other party in the bar.

The Happy Hour deals for booze are $1 off beer and wine and $4 well drinks. They have about 9-10 smaller dishes for food that range from fries, $3, to steamer clams, $11. My friend had the pretzel (which I never heard the end of how amazing it was ha ha) and I had the fish and fries. The fish was good, kind of underwhelming in flavor, but the fries were amazing - I mean how can they not be - they are fried in beef fat! I also noticed (and don't really understand how) that the fries got better as they got colder... go figure.

Anyway - long story short, its a good place for happy hour. Doesn't ever seem too crowded, service is good and the food is good!

5 Corner Market Bar is in the old Lombardi's location. I'll miss Lombardi's however recent meals there were disappointing and it's likely a good thing the owners concentrate their efforts on the other locations.

To describe 5 Corner as a gastropub is, I think a miscategorization. Their wine offerings, cocktails and upscale atmosphere raise it over the gastropod classification.

The menu is divided into small plate and large plate offerings. I have to say that everything we ordered was excellent.

Pork Rillettes - generous portion, mustard seeds were a nice touch.
Cauliflower - small roasted pieces were tasty
Beef Ravioli - 5 plump ravioli curiously served in a shrimp consume were very good.
Oxtail - fall apart tender served with a decadently buttery mashed potatoes garnished avec foie gras.

It's slightly pricy, service was very good. I don't think I'll miss Lombardi's annual garlic festival.

I went into our dining experience (Me and my 4 buddies) at 5 corner not expecting much out of a place like this. I love when I stand corrected (though I will rarely admit i am wrong.)

It's a good atmosphere with a nice Happy Hour selection of food and drinks. The Bartender/our waiter was a nice guy who engaged in conversation with us but wasn't in our faces constantly. Great beer selection if you like Belgian beer (I'm more of a local guy- they had Manny's and deschutes so I was content.)

I ordered the chips which were really good. Light and crisp with a pretty good onion... whipped cream dipping sauce(?) Also the burger was pretty good and large. I appreciate places taking a risk on choice of bun and this was no different. it was a brioche bun which worked well with the large amount of beef in the burger.

All-in-all a good experience. I would recommend you go.

Must have been a bad night or something.  I ordered the Pork Chop with Arugula and Risotto.  The Pork Chop was awesome and seasoned perfect.  The Arugula was too bitter to enjoy and the Risotto was cooked al dente and I don't think on purpose.  1 for 3.

I'll be happy to go back.  They have a great beer menu and I'm sure it was just a bad night in the kitchen.  I have had a "not so perfect" meal from great places that I know and love.  It happens.

I was here last weekend for dinner with my friends. We arrived a bit after 7PM and while it felt somewhat crowded we were seated right away. The dining area and bar area filled up very quickly though after we arrived. We had a hard time deciphering the menu - what do most people get we asked? A few apps and their own entrees? Even after asking the waitress, it still wasn't clear so we just ordered a bunch of appetizers.

The appetizer were tasty but overpriced in my opinion. We then opted to split 2 burgers among the table. They were also pretty tasty but nothing out of this world.

Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here for dinner. I would however, stop in again for the good beer/tap selection and some of the small plates. Oh and by the way, don't wear your favorite jacket or sweater in here, you'll leave smelling like smoked meat and spend the next 3 days trying to get rid of the smell.

If I had to describe this place in two words, it would be "it's OK." 5 Corner Market is presented as an upscale place...with upscale prices. The menu is interesting and uses lots of gourmet words that not only make me feel slightly retarded, but  also leads me to believe that the food should be fantastic. In reality - it was MOSTLY good, but not consistent.

My date and I shared the mad hatcher chicken roulade which had two small breasts of chicken. I lucked out and got the juicy, flavorful breast. My date ended up with the overcooked, dried out breast. Suckah! Our  sides of mashed potatoes and greens were delicious. The beet salad was also quite nice, but it was small. We shared that too, which yielded approx. four bites each. My beet craving was hardly satisfied. The prawn appetizer was filling, but the broth lacked flavor. Meh.

I was really impressed with our server - she was very attentive and pleasant. A+ to her. This seems like a place to go if you are a middle aged Ballard dweller with slightly dulled taste buds and a fat wallet. I might be back to sit on their porch in the summer for happy hour...

    Great food, great service.

A friend and I decided to check this place out last night and were very happy with our decision.  They start you with a good Whiskey/Beer menu with lots of choices, and we took our waiters suggestion to start with a small plate of pork and cubed squash in a broth that we ended up sopping up with a baguette after we finished it.

My friend had the rock fish and chips which came with a gribiche sauce that was like nothing I've ever tasted before and way better than your standard tarter. I had the braised short rib and mushroom ragu, the meat was so tender it almost melted in my mouth.  We also shared the ricotta cavitelli and rapini, the rapini could have been cooked a little more in my opinion, but that's just a personal taste.

I will definitely be going back here to try out some more of the menu.  Our waiter was available to answer our questions and was not pushy when we took our time trying to decide what we wanted and was quick with the water refills also!

Boy, these guys hit the ground running!  I very impressed with the quality of food at the 5 Corner.

I love the playfulness on classics that appear on the menu, especially the Happy Hour menu- I had Beef Fat Chips with Aerated French Onion Dip, which had that addictive onion flavor without the cold, unctuous texture that you got when you used to buy it in those little plastic tubs at the supermarket.  I've also had their rendition of Beef Stroganoff - braised beef short ribs, pappardelle and mushrooms.  It's fun, clever without being annoyingly cutesy and very delicious.  And the Foie Gras, oh my, the Foie Gras!  Delicious.  the entire menu is seasonally appropriate, too.  There's an understated logic to it.  Nothing flown in on a jet plane!

My only complaint is the dining room.  It's kinda generic looking and has a low ceiling.  If very many people get in there it gets very loud and claustrophobic.  Sit at the bar!  It really enhances the whole experience.  And you'll be that much closer to that awesome beer selection!

This is a great improvement from the restaurant that used to occupy this space.

    Things to love:
Beef fat fries, whiskey list, the burger!, brunch, foie gras, mussels (if they have them at the time).  I wish they always had the mussels, I was very disappointed to miss them last time!

The service here has been very friendly and helpful every time I have been.

This was a completely blind try for me. A friend asked me to go there because he heard they had a delicious burger. I was game, due to the fact that a good burger should never be passed up.

We sat at the bar, which was enjoyable for two reasons; we were able to talk about the extensive beer and whisky list with the bartender, and it seemed a tad more casual than the other dining areas.

As mentioned before, the beer menu was huge. It should be pointed out that they have Delirium Tremens on tap, which is EXTREMELY rare.

I ordered the octopus w/ chorizo and pureed cauliflower, which was creamy and excellent, and the burger, which was extraordinarily tasty and filling.

I can't comment on the other reviewers statements about the wait staff being nervous or uninformed. My impression was exactly the opposite. The staff was friendly and extremely knowledgable about topics ranging far past that of a normal restaurant.

5 Corner Market officially opened yesterday and my husband and I decided to stop in for a drink and to taste their beef fat chips and onion dip. The beef fat chips were so good and perfectly salty and the onion dip provided a good balance.

We sat at the bar and the ambiance was nice. The bartender said they are still working on it but I thought it was pretty good considering how quickly they turned it around since Lombardi's closed. It doesn't even look anything like Lombardi's.

They have a lot of good beer on tap and extensive bar of liquor. The menu also looked delicious. I overheard a couple at the bar say the foie gras was spectacular and a decent portion size. That is definitely something I will try the next time we stop in. Definitely want to come back and try the entrees.

Love the 5 Corner.  It's the first "gastropub" I've dined in that made sense of the term - it combines the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood pub with a high-end menu.

I've dined there twice, and each time my party ordered several plates to share.  If you can do that, I suggest it as a way to try many great tastes.

I enjoyed everything, but standouts were the oxtail dish, and the sausage with knefla entree.  If I have a gripe with the menu, it's that it's all pretty uniformly rich.  And nothing against rich foods - but I'd like to break it up a bit when ordering several plates.

The 5 Corner was hospitable, and really felt like a low-pressure neighborhood oriented place.  I look forward to going back.

Firstly, I have to say that if this were Iron Chef America, 5 Corner Market  would receive all the points for originality. Secondly, I despise the term "gastropub." (I mean, "Pub" comes from "Public House,"  the core of which is the service of *both* drinks and food.)

While 5 Corner Market serves up some new & unique takes on things, like poutine, sometimes you just want poutine - without the marrow and foie gras. Sometimes you want a caesar salad, and not have it taste like BBQ because they thought that would be cool.

Not only was the food weird and confusing, but so too were the decor and atmosphere. They had Classic Rock, of all things, playing throughout the restaurant, and the decor was a mix of "we're very modern" and "we're for the 60 and over crowd." I can't say I got it.

The food portions were a nice size, the prices weren't unreasonable, so those were pluses.  I appreciate what they're trying to do by jazzing up old-school dishes, but I just didn't feel it tasted very good. And I'll take taste over originality any day.

Very different from the family style Italian restaurant that occupied this site previously, 5 Corner Market Bar & Kitchen has a more sophisticated vibe with dark wood interior.  The name didn't really grab me, but we can't resist trying out a new Ballard happy hour spot.  We ponied up to the bar and received a limited bar menu, since we were there before dinner service started.  I had a sparkling wine and my BF had a Manny's.  We got a chance to look at the dinner menu and I'm pretty sure we'll be back as he was swooning over the small plates alone...oxtail, "chicken & waffle" foie gras and sweetbreads.  It's definitely a more unique food menu, no nachos or hummus & pita here.  Being the less experimental foodie, I ordered the marcona almonds to snack on while we enjoyed our beverages.

I was excited for a new restaurant we could walk to from our house and the reviews were all over the board, so we thought we'd check it out.  When we sat down and looked at the menu I was a little shocked.  The menu was complicated.  The food itself was not complicated, but it seems like the chef is trying too hard in the way the food was described.  I had the ceasar salad (wasn't called ceasar salad), which was good, but I had a pasta dish (cavatelli, rapini, and beer cheese fondue) that was just plain not good.  By the way, rapini is broccoli......  Oh, and the chef hates bread.  What?!?!  Other people in our dining party said their food was really good though!  So, overall, they are trying too hard with the menu and the prices are pretty high.  Slow your high falutin roll 5 Corner Market Bar & Kitchen....

I was in last evening with friends, and although the menu looked intriguing, the small plate appetizer was VERY small.  Three of us ordered the burger, and it was good, but was difficult to eat due to the size of the brioche bun.  The wines were excellent though.   The service was poor, as we felt rushed, especially at the end.  No reason since it wasn't busy where we were seated.
There is a fun atmosphere and energy, but the menu is expensive, and they need to improve the courtesy of the servers.
Sorry for this, but I want it to be successful.  Renee

I went to 5 Corner for dinner and beers. I'd been to Lombardi's a couple of times, and was never a big fan of either the food or ambiance, so I was interested to try the new place.

We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, so we had a drink in the bar. Great beer menu here, and the owners have done a decent job redecorating the bar area.

We were taken upstairs for dinner. Up there, the ambiance is horrible. I'm pretty sure they've kept the same tables and chairs from Lombardi's, which are really not what you want in an upscale "gastropub." They're this ugly, shellacked wood and the chairs have red cushions, like at a diner. I'm all for saving $$ and reusing old stuff, but maybe a coat of black paint or some tablecloths would be nice. There's also blue carpet everywhere, which, while I know dampens the noise, is just weird in a restaurant. No paintings or anything on the walls upstairs, so it's pretty stark, and not in a cool minimalist way.

We ordered the charred heirloom carrot appetizer, along with the "pastrami" seared foie gras. I was not a fan of the carrot appetizer -- it had preserved lemons which totally overpowered the rest of the dish. Even without the lemons, it was pretty boring, without a lot of flavor. The foie gras was very good. We did have kind of a weird experience, though, when someone (not our server) brought us plates for the appetizers and kind of just threw them down on the table in a stack. Just a little thing, but I expect more at a place that's trying to be as nice as this one is.

Their big plates are big enough to share, so my sister and I shared the short ribs with pasta and mushrooms. It was really good, although they were a little stingy with the ribs (I think we only had three small chunks of rib in the whole plate, which was filled up with mostly pasta).

The chocolate bread pudding for dessert was really good.

Anyway, ambiance: Pretty bad, which, for me, counts for a lot. Food: Decent, but didn't really outweigh the shortcomings in the restaurant itself. I'd go back if someone invited me to dinner there, but I wouldn't choose it for myself.

Trendy and great ambiance for this gastropub.  Location is key as it's right on the "corner".  We had the oven roasted mad hatcher chicken, truffle potato puree, braised greens, mustard jus. It was to die for!  The chicken was moist and the flavors of the potato puree and greens were perfect!  Also, if you want a good side dish for your beer, try the beef fat fries.  Crunchy and delicious.  The owners are quite friendly and if I brought my fiancé to this location, he would definitely not be disappointed with the selection of beers on tap.  Cheers and bon appétit!

I am so glad that Lombardi's has been replaced at this fantastic corner location.

THE FOOD was fantastic!  For entrees, we had pork ribs with mustard sauce and pork shank.  For an appetizer, we had pork belly.  We commented to the server that this was a lot of pork, and she said this was typical as they have a lot of pork on the menu! We finished off with a dessert of toffee bread pudding.  All of these were absolutely great.

THE ATMOSPHERE was comfortable and it's a great view out the window at this corner in Ballard.  We left feeling like we smelled like a slow meat smoker, but it was worth it.

THE SERVICE needs improvement.  Drink refills were slow (although I am something of a diet coke addict, so I might have unreasonable expectations) and twice we were offered dishes that weren't for our table, but another nearby.  I brushed this off as the place being relatively new.

I met up with a friend here for dinner on a Friday evening.  I waited in the bar downstairs, which had a cool, modern vibe to it.  When our table was ready, we were taken upstairs to a much less cool, modern room.  I think the upstairs is an afterthought as I felt like all the ambiance was lost up there.  The food sounded tastier on the menu than it actually was.  My friend and I both ate most of our dinner because we were so hungy, but in the end agreed we wouldn't order either of our dishes again.  Now that we've written off two of the six entrees offered, I think my next trip there would be for a drink and appetizer in the bar.

This is a great new addition to the neighborhood! Lombardi"s was ok but Im glad 5 corner took its place. The french fries are fried in beef fat yum! The burger is amazing, and the short ribs with pappadelle pasta were amazing, sortof a fancy, rich and delicious take on beef stoganoff. A great list of beers and whisky. The service was great! They even came back to refill our water and coffee after we paid our bill and were chatting...The only complaint I have was I didn't have room for dessert!

Beet salad and cauliflower were both awesome. The bartender, Greg, was very very helpful with food and drinks suggestions -- both were great.  Will definitely be coming back when I am more hungry.

My wife and I were really looking forward to trying 5 Corner Market Bar & Kitchen.. We used to go to Lombardi's there on a pretty regular basis  Our visit this time started out bad and went downhill from there.

First there were any number of empty tables but the hostess seated us in little Siberia right next to the service bar where the servers pick up the silverware etc.  And the table next to us was packed with people who all talked at the same time at the top of their voices.  Between the waiters butts and the shouting we had very little privacy.  Not a great dinner experience.

That being said the food was not bad and the service was good.  The bus boy. however,  was a little to efficient and got away with our bread and butter when the waitress brought our dinners.  Hey we paid for that bread.

We will probably go back but not until they get the kinks worked out.  If we do we will probably sit in the bar to avoid the bad seating.

My friend and I popped into 5 Corner Market Bar & Kitchen for happy hour after Sunday shopping in Ballard.  We started with the cheese plate and beef fat fries and a couple of glasses of wine.  We shared the cheese plate, which was good but a bit over priced.  My friend had the fries which she said were good and very beef flavored.  I was disappointed with the happy hour food menu because they don't have any vegetarian options except almonds or bread and butter.  We both were very impressed with the wine we ordered and the friendly bartender.  The dinner menu had very few vegetarian options if any.  We thought the ambiance was extremely boring and that the food was over priced for the atmosphere of the restaurant.  I would drop in again for a glass or wine but that's about it.

The Beef Fat Chips and Onion Dip were amazing.  The smoked chicken thighs were perfect.  The pork sausage was a bit grainy and dry for my tastes.  We will definitely be going back.

You can smell their wood oven through the place and we still smelled a bit smokey when we left.  Not sure if this was on purpose or they are still sorting out the ventilation.

My girlfriend & I went here to try out their tapas style dishes and unfortunately was underwhelmed by their food.  I'd say it's a nice place to have a couple drinks & people watch but other than that it didn't leave a lasting impression.  Too bad...great space, so-so food.

Best meal I've had in a long time.

I went with a big group, so was able to try pretty much everything on the menu.  I could go on at length here, but will highlight just a few items.  From the small plates, highlights were the beef fat potato chips and creamy onion dip, mussels--cooked to tender perfection, barbecue chicken, and gnocchi topped with a light red sauce and arugula.  Out of the main dishes, standouts were the short ribs mushroom ragu--a gourmet take on stroganoff with super fresh pasta, the pan fried lamb sirloin--lightly seasoned and not gamey at all, and the juicy burger and hand cut frites.

Fresh seasonal ingredients, reasonable prices.  I can't wait to go back.

Wow, did my experience differ from most of the folks here.
The first thing I noticed as I walked into 5 Corner was the smell, and not in a good way.  One word.  Ventilation.  Please acquire some.  It was like someone was barbecuing inside a house.  The smell of charred meat and smoke was a little overpowering.
The second thing I noticed was the decor, and lack thereof.  It's like a big ol' man cave, and again, not in a good way.  There is no art on the walls.  All the railings are made of thin, unfinished sticks of wood with no ornamentation, and the furniture and lighting is utilitarian without modern flair.
The third thing I noticed was the three page menu of whiskey, followed by the one page menu of actual food with ingredients so fancified that I had a hard time deciphering what they might actually be made of.
We ordered meat, because there, it's what's for dinner.  I ordered medium-well, my husband ordered medium rare.  When our meat came, we could not tell the difference; both were bloody pink.  Not in a good way.  I had to send mine back because pregnant ladies can't eat raw beef, and while the server was appropriately apologetic, my husband was entirely done with his meal by the time I got mine back.  My entree was adequate.  Any items comp'ed because they kept a pregnant lady waiting for her meal? No.
What can I say about what was good about this place? The service.  Our hostess and server were competent and professional.  The french fries were tasty.
I would say, if you are a caveman who watches the Food Network and likes his liquor, you might really like this place.  If you are a person who likes a restaurant to be a delight to the senses? Stay away.  Far away.
While I maybe never got thrilled about my dining experience at Lombardi's, neither did I ever had a bad meal there.  I cannot say the same about 5 Corner Market Bar and Kitchen.

Ok so this place hummmmm..they do have some big fancy names for food on the menu that I had to use my phone to figure what they were talking about. Due to the fact service was super slow I looked up a few words and had plenty of  time to read up on what they meant. So I ordered some kinda chicken dinner with lots of fancy names and what came out to my suprise was chicken and jojo's wow 19 dollars for 2 piece chicken and about 5 jojo's. In fareness the bird was yummy but not 19 dollars yummy. The look and feel of the place is cool. So as i told the wife as we walked our way back home I might go back there for drinks some time then she reminded me of the drink prices as well. They are high as well. You know high prices are fine when I get good service from a guy not wearing a band t-shirt and tells me how many times he has had to go up and down the stairs for our group. High prices are ok when I get more than fried chicked and jojo's. So 5 corner get a big grip on your staff and dress them nicer and fix your over complex menu. Oh thats right there is the word bar in your name. So act like a bar. I tend to be very welcoming to new stuff but this place is way out of line on alot of levels. I hope they get it figured out soon. I would hate to seen anouther place fail in ballard. Dinner and 3 drinks run about 55.00 per person as a idea of cost. As of right now i can't see us going back very soon and thats sad.
