4th street pizza is a cute little place. :) They have some SJSU football memorabilia which makes me feel school spirited (a little). The pizza is also pretty good, but not out of this world. I liked the garlic chicken. The prices are pretty high, but if you're a baller why not. They also have cute little booths and a bar. What I really liked about this place is how they have like 20 flat screen tv's on the walls... very funnn :). The workers are really nice too. I think it may be family owned??? But this place is pretty cool, nice atmosphere for the college students.

I don't understand why the closer proximity to SJSU means lower food standards.
Though, this is the spot I consistently choose for post meetings at MLK library. The pizza is basic, service is good and there's beer-it's all a good group needs.
My brother and I stopped in here to grab a slice of pizza to go and it wasn't too bad. It wasn't that great, it was a bit cold, like the heating lamps weren't on all the way.
The pizza was pretty good, but I thought it was very over priced. In the middle of the day we had to wait for the staff to stop flirting to get help, which was a bit frustrating.
While I wouldn't call out to head here, I wouldn't toss the pizza away. So I guess that's why it gets 3 stars from me.

This place gets 4/5 from me! The pizza is a bit pricey to just be a pizza spot. Anywho, the service is awesome. There's an older woman who was very sweet to me and my signif. Good up-to-date music, and plasmas to watch while you eat.
The pizza itself was really tasty and the salads are fresh. If you like thicker crust pizza, this is the spot.
We watched the presidential primaries there one time while we ate so we didn't miss it. A lot of older thirsy guys, but overall rcommended.

hm...ambiance is nice, but doesnt fit with the cheap type of pizza served...reminds me of slightly better version of pizza made at home or that frozen D'Giornos. Service not particularly friendly...pizza unmemorable. crust could be improved since it's not dense enough for me...in between thick crust to medium crust. toppings were plain and simple, sauce could barely remember the taste...maybe this is why they serve beer too so no one can actually taste the pizza. I rather go to Dominos where better value/taste.
Nope. Not even close.
4th Street pizza is way too expensive for what it is. Poorly made pizza that uses crappy ingredients. I don't know what they're trying to be, but whatever it is, it ain't working.
Crust is weird. I think they brush it with oil or something...not what you're supposed to do. And it was under-seasoned to boot.
I got the Sharkie, which was pushing 20 bucks for a medium, and it was bland and TINY! Not worth it at all.
I would drive across town for Pizza My Heart, before walking two steps to eat this crap. Huge disappointment.

Just another boring, overpriced pizza joint that is only in biz because its across the street from City Hall and there's little other competition.
Best pizza delivery in San Jose!
I've eaten at the location, as well as delivery. Delivery is hot and delicious, in location is alright... It is all about the custom order (and not the heat lamp) I guess.
I haven't been back to Pizza My Heart since they opened...
Their thin crust pizza doesn't have as much of a "New York style" feel as say the other local places, Pizza My Heart or Amici's but the recommended combinations are much more clever and fresh. The last time I was there, I had the "Sharkie" which was a chicken, garlic, and tomato thin crust with a basil garlic sauce. Very flavorful! It's hard to tell, but you can actually order any of their pizzas on the menu thin crust, otherwise it'll come out with the standard crappy thick crust.
Next I'll be checking out their 2 dollar Tuesday special, where slices are 2 bucks, as well as 2 bucks for their regular beer and whatever the house wine is.
This place has better pizza then the Pizza My Heart on San Carlos, and if you're buying pizza by the slice its a better bang for your buck ($3 a slice) the PMH.
Gets packed during lunch so get there early!
Would rate this place a solid 3.5 stars if I could, but since I can't and since it doesn't deserve 4 stars I'm rounding it down to a 3.
i came here during stage 3 of tour of california, last year. the finish line was at city hall, the next block over and a great finish it was. stage 3 pretty much decided the winner with it's monsterous climbs of sierra rd and calaveras.
this is a small sports bar. it's hardly my idea of a pizza joint. too plush, if you ask me, for a downtown pizza spot. seems more like a trendy sports bar than a pizza joint. flat screens and an actual bar with beers on tap. seating is typical with bar stools at the bar and sit down bar tables throughout. staff was friendly that day.
that day, i had a couple beers and a slice. i sat at the bar since the window seats were taken. really wanted a window seat too. i would have stayed longer and had more beers if i could have had a spot there. watching whatever event on the plasmas was boring. with a huge cycling event happening just across the street, you would think they would have a tour de france dvd playing or something related to cycling instead of a general sports channel. lame. guinness is my choice of beer and they had that availabe which was a plus. the SLICE was expensive. $3 for a slice?! so much for being competitive. make it attractive and charge $2! if all ingredients were usda certified organic, then maybe i can see myself paying $3 for a slice.
parking is a bit of a problem but typical in an metropolitan setting. street side parking is very limited on santa clara and 4th. there is a parking garage near martin luther king jr. liabrary and i'm not sure if they validate for it either.
because of it's proximity to stage 3 of tour of california, i probably would have never visited this spot. looks too much like a sports bar, inside/outside and sports bars are not my thing.

meh... nothing special about this pizza.
my gf and i planned to order just by the slice, but found the crust to be a bit thick. so we just ordered a whole pizza with thin crust.
was a bit on the expensive side for what it was.
i'd give a 2.5 if i could.
What an awesome pizza joint! This is the exact thing that the area around SJSU needed. It's what Pizza My Heart is trying to be, except they actually serve GOOD pizza and salad here! I agree with everyone else in saying that they are a bit light on the sauce, but that's ok by me. I don't like my pizza drowning in sauce. Great atmosphere, very good prices, and it's just a fun pizza place. It has a small bar with I think six beers on tap. Good stuff!
This place is pretty good if you like thicker crust pizza. Toppings are generous and tasty.
The "$2 Tuesdays" is a great deal.
Parking is horrible. If you stay 2 minutes over your meter, you will get a ticket. No meters after 6, however.
I love this place! The pizza is phenomenal, plasma screens everywhere, owned by SJSU grads, a block from campus, a block from the library, a block from Mission (where you go when 4th street closes). It's an awesome location, great food and we have always had a great time when we go there!
The only thing that would make this place perfect, is a full time bartender. Right now they share a bartender with the food counter, so the beer refills are not quite as timely as if they had someone dedicated to the bar.

I noticed this pizza place on the corner of 4th and Santa Clara being built a while back... and I said...hmmmm that will be a good place to try out once it opens! U know.. since I am very well ROUNDED Yelper!
It opened.... I placed my order... and to my enjoyment.. the pizza is sooooo good!!!! I had their "4th Street Pizza" lots of fresh veggies and meat ( I think ) Since I have The Natives.... we get the hawaiian and pepperoni which is equally good! Mr London loves the 4th Street pizza and the garlic cheese bread sticks...woohooo! I always order it to take home and have never had any issues with my order being read or wrong (unlike Mr. London cause they understand his accent) I've eaten in there once with The Natives.... we watched tv on their many flat screens... they enjoyed soda and pizza and I enjoyed a Heinekin with my pizza (has a small but operable bar)
U gotta try it... hopefully this will become a permanent staple in San Jose.... very good potentional!
;o)
This place always looks so warm and invited so we decided to try it Sunday night. The staff is super nice and helpful, we ordered a supreme pizza to go and sat at the bar and had beers while we waited. It's sorta off because the cashier has to come over to the bar, and that took a while, but she was nice. The place has great Plasma TV screens and appears to have good pitcher deals on Saturdays. Overall, the pizza was good, not too greasy, but a little too much breading and needed more pizza sauce. I'd go back again for the salad bar which looked promising and the pizza and beer!
ok so i was working downtown for a few days and i didnt know what i wanted to eat. so i was asking some of the people that i was working with, and course they as "what do u feel like eating?" and i say "i dunno"
so i went walking around and found 4th street pizza. its about $3 for a slice of pizza and $1 for a drink. its a lunch comes to about $4 something.
the pizza is good. its not greasy like pizza hut or papa johns and it taste good.
So I don't really dig the pizza here. It's not that there is anything inherently wrong with it, although the dough is lackluster in taste and sauce is often applied thinly, it's not bad pizza. it's just not a place I would go if I wanted a good pizza.
Now that's not to say there isn't reason to frequent 4th Street Pizza. There are several... the comfortable ambiance, friendly and helpful staff, minimalistic but able bar, abundance of plasma screens, all make it a great place to meet after class (or work).
Really, as long as the conversation is better than the pizza, one could consider it a good night.
Just had one combo slice. It was crowded inside and seemed to be quite popular. Not bad it was hot and reasonable prices but the flavor didnt really jump out at me.
One other note is this place is pretty heavy on the crust.

This place ran out of the pizza I wanted. That's a no no. (-2). Pizza slice needs to be heated up (-1). But good value for pizza slice and salad and soda for less than $10
Visit #2 8/10

Chicken is not bad. Comes with salad - which I like. And nice scenery. Crom would have liked the scenery (slutty young girls).

The pizza is some of the best in San Jose. I hate to say it i have been there 9 times for takeout and the service has always been slow. Its not the time it takes to cook the pizza but the time it sits there waiting for it to be handed to you..there seems to be too much going on at once for one person to handle. The pizza gets 5 stars... the service 1 star.
Perfect pre-party destination if you're going out downtown because they have a bar and flat screen TV's like EVERYWHERE.Also great for just lunch or early dinner on the weekdays. Salad bar selection alone warrants a 5 star rating, I always get pepperoni, mushroom, extra cheese pizza and haven't been let down here. (Sorry, I'm just not daring!) The crust is never raw or burned, toppings are always generous, cheese doesn't taste like 600 mg. of sodium and the sauce is always so fresh. As far as ambiance it's really cool looking inside and incredibly clean, prices are reasonable because with the quality of service & food you're def getting what you pay for.

I am regretting this purchase as I write this and my stomach has been churning for the last three hours. To be frank, the four cheese pizza was quite soggy, the sauce was also bland, tasting generic and store bought and the thick crust was reminiscent of a slightly crisper Wonderbread and otherwise unsatisfying. The garlic breadsticks on the other hand were satisfying yet the sauce was quite strange unlike the pizza sauce. Not sure at this moment if that is a good thing or bad thing?
So, the point is, pass on this place. If you want an off-putting wait staff, a mediocre pizza, strange tasting sauce and a less then average experience then this place is for you but I'll stick to somewhere else (like the freezer section at Safeway -same taste at a fraction of the price).
4th Street didn't wow me. The interior is clean and has a bar with beer and wine, but so do some Round Tables. The pizza was o.k., but not gourmet-quality. I ordered by the slice, and the options available were pretty standard. I was hoping they'd have a slice of Margherita available, but no such luck.

I love this pizza. The pizza here is so good. . . the dough must be made with beer or something because it is so tasty and fluffy. I also love the salad bar. It is really fresh food and the people here a re great too. They have a lunch deal with the large salad and one slice of pizza and a beverage for like $6.00 (totally worth it)!

I live downtown so when a new restaurant advertises its grand opening, I am usually peeking in the window before it opens and watch the construction until it does! I was excited, I ate here and now its just another pizza spot to me.
The pizza was bland to me. I usually stick with combo but this combo wasn't exciting. The dough is thick and tasteless. Ingredients are pretty much the same everywhere. The cool thing is they sell it by the slice so this is why they get 3 stars.
The TV's aren't really placed ergonomically correct either. Its a tight fit in there so you have to bend your neck back to watch the TV in front of you or you have the lucky spot and don't have to strain b/c the bar tv's are in your view.
My fave pizza downtown is still Pizza Chicago! ;)

holy crap this was one of the worst pizzas ever. ny style crust... right. by the end of the meal the cardboard box crust turned into a crumbling crouton. the cheese was sour and the pizza sauce bland. the exterior is misleading. it has a nice sign, nice name, the furniture is cozy, flat screen tvs lined the walls (probably to keep your taste buds distracted). overall, a disappointment. not coming back. oh by the way, with a small, and a medium pizza plus 2 drinks, $33. ouch.
This is a great place! All the ingredients are very fresh and the eatery is impeccably clean. The pizza is a great value, with many 50% off coupons floating around out there. I have tried both the plain cheese pizza and the mushroom/olive pizza and they were both fabulous. The crust is my favorite part. It's so rich, thick, and tasty with a sourdough like flavor. Everyone there is really nice and they have a lot of great beers on tap. The plasma screens make it a great place to watch a sporting event. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!

This is being generous, though. We had tried them a few months back, upon high recommendation from a friend. The pizza was just how we like it - loads of veges, not much grease. We were in love!
Then we ordered it again last week, starving, 8pm. Not only did the pizza never arrive, but when we called, the woman who answered was downright rude. She blamed us for the mistake! Finally my husband went down to pick the thing up by hand (they didn't even offer to re-deliver it), and the tags had all the right information. Somewhere wires got crossed, but it certainly wasn't a problem on our end. The gentleman with whom my husband spoke was lovely and apologetic, but I have to say that the experience did leave a bitter taste in our mouths.
Surpisingly delicious!!!
Brand new pizza place opened up not too long ago. One of my friends brought me here for lunch and I watched her order her delicious salad and pizza slice and I knew I had to try it sooner or later.
So I grabbed a menu and later on that week ordered a pizza. The menus had several pizzas to offer such as pesto pizza, and the regular pepperoni and hawaiian. I wanted to just get a slice and soda, but I couldn't get delivery on that so I ordered a hawaiian pizza.
It was fabulous. Delivery was decently timed, the pizza arrive hot, the price wasn't bad. I believe there was a delivery charge of $2.50. I don't remember, but what I do remember was the great crust, the awesome toppings that were fresh, and what I appreciated the most was the pineapples were still crisp tasting and not cooked with the pizza.
Hmmmm.....

My husband and I decided to try it with some friends and family. Small place was clean though. For a quick fix is was just okay. Was quick! Lacked a little favor. Crust was good, could have used more cheese. Fresh Salad bar very good but not all you can eat and the small was small, 4 bucks with no second helping! They should add cottage cheese to the salad bar too. Free refill on soda's. I will not been going back.
This place is right around the corner from our apartment, so it's convenient and has just as much sports variety as University Chicken around the corner.
The pizzas are, for the most part, very good. The meat combo (Sabercat) is delicious, if you're into the carnivore thing.
Most of the time, the thin crust is baked to perfection--crisp, snappy, and foldable. I say "most of the time," and this is why I knocked a star off--the last pizza we had from there had a pitifully soggy/undercooked crust. It couldn't even support the weight of the toppings.
I'm hoping this was a one time anomaly, and I'm more than willing to give the place another shot, but should this happen again, we'll be heading elsewhere.

My friend and I have been eying this place since it opened and today, when the pizza-craving hit, we decided to go play Lewis and Clark.
This place has 7 plasma screens (if you're interested in that sort of thing) and a nice, clean interior.
I'm not a huge leafy, green things kind of person, but their salad bar looked soooooooo nice. Everything was very fresh-looking and scrumptious, better than any other salad bar I've seen before.
I ended up ordering a slice of the creamy garlic chicken and my friend got the the B.B.Q. chicken. The slices were huge and only $3 a piece!
I thoroughly enjoyed my slice of garlic-cheesy heaven and it was filling enough that I could not contemplate getting a small salad (even though, as previously noted, I don't like salads; it just looked that good) or another slice.
My friend's B.B.Q. chicken was decent, but I've had better at Pizz'a Chicago or even Sonoma Chicken Coop.
Street parking can be found on 4th street (30 minutes or 2 hours) or at the 4th Street Parking Garage (free after 6 pm and on weekends and holidays).

Pizza is ok. They have a good salad bar. Everything is very fresh. I think its a little pricey. Theres some originality to this place....or thats what the bum told me after he asked me for a dollar.
They have a 6 plasmas and the wait staff there is nice..they turned on the volume when we asked. The cashier lady is very easy on the eyes.
We were going to a concert at Le Petit Trianon after work and had about a half hour to grab something to eat. Had no idea where to go, then we spotted 4th Street Pizza next to the new City Hall so gave it a try. Pizza was great and they poured a generous glass of wine. If you are in a hurry they have pizza by the slice and a salad bar (in addition to a menu) . I think we had chicken garlic, it hit the spot! Also great meeting spot before an event because everyone orders at the counter, pays for their own, no hassles with sorting out the bill, dealing with wait staff etc. It is very clean and has a nice little bar area. Also for sports fan there are lots of flat screen TV's.

I came here for the lunch special (salad, drink, and slice of pizza) for @ $7.50. The pizza was delicious. The crust was a thick and bready with generous amount of toppings. Great!
Tonight, I ordered a large pepperoni, black olives, mushroom and pineapple for $24. The whole pie seemed like it had been in the oven too long. It was tough and cracker like. There was no soft bread interior to be found and if there was it was extremely dry. They were generous with the toppings, but damn was I disappointed with the crust.
It might have been an off night, as one reviewer mentioned about his soggy crust. I prefer to rate this place a 3.5. I will update my review in my next visit.
Nice selection of toppings and pizza comes thick crusted or if you request, thin. Friendly staff, credit cards accepted for pick-up/dine in and street parking can be a hassle before 6 p.m.
** Update ** - Ordered the lunch special and the crust was still tough and dry. The generous toppings couldn't even help me forget how blah the crust was. I'll still come back for the lunch special, but not for my night time craving for pizza.

The reviews written so far have been on par with how I feel (Its pizza, it doesn't really stand out one way or the other) I will add that I also live downtown and what I'm always looking for is delivery service. The one complaint I have is that in order to qualify for delivery, they want you to order a large pie.. f-that. Give me a minimum charge but don't mandate I order something I'm not prepared to eat. :-\
Ryan and I went here for lunch -- it seemed exactly the same as the California Pizza on Brokaw and Oakland. We got the special "salad and a slice" for 7.50. When we got our pizza, it was cold. It seemed like it had been sitting there for some time. Then, 20 minutes after we ate, Ryan got extremely sick. I think it was either the meat on the pizza or the meat that was in the salad bar. I've never seen him so sick. I was fine because I had a slice of cheeze and no meat on my salad. Don't eat meat here.
