My parents, husband and I stopped by for brunch for mother's day yesterday. Maybe we got lucky, but I'm surprised by the negative reviews. We got a couple of appetizers which were delicious, and lunch was good as well. Everybody was satisfied, but by husband said the beer was just "ok"

Service was excellent and our waitress was extremely friendly. I'll definitely go back here again - the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I feel like it's a bit spendy for Gresham, a cheeseburger was about 15 dollars...but well worth it, apparently.

4th Street was alright.  Nothing to write home to mama about, but it doesn't deserve less than3 stars. The service was pseudo- friendly. The waiter/bartender was physically there, but not mentally there for the most part. A little more attention would have been nice or maybe just a little more water in my glass. Maybe I drink to fast, who knows.

It's a brewery which means the decor was simple and quiet.  Dimly lit and filled with locals.

The food was good, but easily lost in a sea of other restaurants that I've recently visited. I didn't consume any appetizers that night. I went right into the main course which was a build your own burger option. The burger was tasty, but I enjoyed the beer battered fries more than anything. I've almost already forgotten about the beer I had. I can't really dish out much advice on beer because I'm a man about my PBR.

    It was solid experience.

Don't try anything. I've been here twice and the verdict is that there are barely any good locally owned places to eat in Gresham and so far Nicholas is the BEST (I have a review on them too!).

Only go here if you're in Gresham and are in desperate need to watch a sports event (but then again Buffalo Wild Wings is nearby and their mango habanero wings are quite yummy so I'd much rather go there).

Ok food. Ok beer. Ok service. Only come here expecting an ok time. Ok!

Well, unless you are a single person, sitting in the bar, don't bother.  I had a free night with just my son and I and thought it would be cool to go to a place where I could have a local brew and we could eat dinner together.

I don't even know where to begin.  The waitress couldn't have cared less, and was pretty annoyed that we were there.  The food was pretty bad, and had no attempt to be done right.  My son ordered a kids grilled cheese, and it was toasted bread with a single slice of kraft cheese, and that was it.  I wouldn't have fed it to a dog.  The burger I ordered was so overcooked, I couldn't believe it.  The beer isn't very good either.  Not a good idea to use water right out of the Gresham tap.

I know we don't have a lot of options in Gresham, and we get a bad rap, but honest to mergatroid.  This place was amazing at how little they wanted us there.

I gave two stars, because those in the bar seemed to be having a good time.  I'm not sure why they even have a dining room.

I love this place - it's only a few blocks from my house, has great drink specials every night (my friends and I go almost every Wednesday night for the $1.50 20oz pints), usually has good tunes playing and the staff is super friendly. Especially the blonde waitress, I effing LOVE her. Oh, the beer AND food - so delicious.

Good time. Enjoyed the food, fun atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back. Good beer, happy house seemed like decent prices.

Only negative is they don't make it a great place to watch a Blazers game. Volume on the game was low to begin and crowd noise made it a lost cause. Still had fun with friends, but would watch sporting events somewhere else.

So we went again Friday night after writing my previous review. It sparked a serious debate on who DOES have THE best burger we've ever tried. Luckily, no blows were dealt, because we deliberated, brought up other places, and both decided on 4th Street as the best burger we have tried this far in our lives.

The search continues, but man, this burger is hard to beat: delicious, fresh and juicy. I took a bite of meat alone, and it passed the test. A good burger doesn't count if they have to heap crazy amounts of toppings on it, to cover the lackluster flavor of the meat. Not the case here, it's a win all around.

I came here on a Friday night around 10PM and it was quite busy.  First time with the Powell Porter and it was very delicious.  I couldn't help notice the modern styling as it quickly gained my interest of the Brewery's interior design.  Hip hop music was blasting, as the bar was lively with conversations flowing.  Attractive crowd in a clean styled brewery makes my first experience here a 4/5 stars.  Keep it flowing, 4th ST.  Additional Note: my pint was $3.  I think it's a happy hour special.

I checked out 4th Street Brewery today for happy hour. They have a pretty decent happy hour food menu from items ranging from 2.95 to 4.95......I had the nachos and a salad and my friend had the pork sliders and fries. All the food came out promptly and was nice and hot!

The wait staff and bartenders were friendly too.

I have to say, the beer isn't my fav, but it is tough competition in the greater NW.

I love this place. Who would have guessed lil' downtown Gresham would sport such a great little brewery?  It seems to get better every time I drop in. The beer selection is always solid, with a beer for every taste and some rotating seasonals to keep things interesting.  I tried the melt sandwich with turkey, asparagus, sourdough bread, cheddar and cranberry aioli tonight and it was DELICIOUS. It is going to be a tough decision next time versus the great selection of burgers and fish and chips. Plus homemade chips are probably the best I have had anywhere. Usually bar-made chips are too thick, too oily and/or not crunchy, but not these. 4th Street Brewing makes some great chips. The servers are great too - including Ally, who was awesome tonight. Also have a sports-bar number of tv's in the bar and most sports games, including NFL network.

4th Street is a place that has good food, but just okay beer. My favorite meal is the fish and chips. The fish is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I recently tried the porky sandwich and although it wasn't the best BBQ pork sandwich I have had, it was still decent. The happy hour menu has a good variety of snacks for good prices. The onion rings are a favorite appetizer of mine. They are the perfect amount of crunchy.

The atmosphere is nice and the wait staff are friendly. The bar area can get a little crowded during the evening, so get there at a decent time. It is a nice place to sit down with friends and have a drink.

So after a great happy hour experience, I came back for dinner.  I think I'll stick with the bar from now on.

We started with the baked brie and were immediately disappointed.  First of all I've never had baked brie that didn't come wrapped in a puffed pastry dough.  Second, it was barely warmed and still cold in the middle.  Third, I know the menu says it comes with pears, flat bread, and veggies.  The plate had three rock-hard slices of pear (there were two of us dining - they couldn't make it an even 4 slices??), the flat bread was fine, but I find broccoli and carrots strange choices to serve with "baked" brie.

For our main course, we split a Reuben sandwich.  An authentic Reuben is made with pastrami.  We were offered corned beef or turkey.  It was fine, but nothing special.  The homemade potato chips were fantastic.

The cocktails we ordered at the same time as our appetizer arrived when we were almost finished with our food and were still served 10 minutes apart.  Again, there were only two of us so I can't make sense of this.  The drinks were strong - usually a good thing, but it would have been more appreciated had they arrived before our food so we could sip them throughout our meal.

What to do?  What to do?

I really like the food that I have had at 4th Street, but both times I have been there, their service or policies have left me wanting.

1st time: A group of about six couples agreed to meet up there for happy hour.  I guess we didn't make that clear up-front and we all sat, unknowingly, in the restaurant area.  When we asked about the happy hour menu, we were told it can only be ordered from the bar area.  We asked to be relocated to the bar area.  The problem for 4th Street, one of our couples had a newborn baby and they won't seat "minors" in the bar area.  Give me a break...this was an eight week-old baby.  She wasn't going to accidentally grab a beer and start drinking it.

2nd time: Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable, but she seemed anxious and/or under-the-gun.  After putting in our order, she never checked back in with us although we would see her hurriedly walking by our table multiple times.  A busboy brought us our food, which was hot and tasty, but my order was fish tacos with chips and salsa, and there was no salsa to be found.  I didn't notice right away, but when I did, it took probably five minutes for an employee to even look our way so that I could flag them down and ask for salsa.

I would give out four stars for the food, but the overall experience gets knocked down to three.

4th Street Brewing Co. is what used to be Main Street Ale House in downtown Gresham.  They moved.  Tore down some old ugly house and constructed a nice new mixed-use building and incorporated many green construction practices. They did a amazing job on the interior with lots of exposed concrete, brick, hardwoods, high-end lighting and poured concrete wash basins in the restrooms.  There is a second story with private meeting rooms that overlooks the bar and glassed-in brewing areas from a balcony.  There are a lot of HD-TV's mounted in the bar for you athletic supporters.

I had serious apprehensions about this place since I had been to the Main St. Ale House several times and never had a good experience there.  It was so sterile, dark and cavernous.  The food was sub-sub- par and the beer was completely average.  The service bordered on lackadaisical to non-existent.

Fortunately, most of the above mentioned things have changed.

It didn't start out that way.  We were greeted by a young girl that didn't seem enthusiastic about her job in the slightest.  We were sat and the waitress mostly made up for the hostess.

They have 5 regular beers on tap and they had 6 seasonals at the time.  I had a pint of the Eager Beaver IPA (regular) and 15 Hop IPA (seasonal).  Both were good, but probably not going to make them famous or win any awards.  Extra props for serving 20 ounce Imperial pints though.

    Happy hour-
    Monday 4 - 5:30 & 9 - 11.
    Tuesday - Sunday - 2:30 - 5:30 & 9 - 11.

The food was decent.  It's still standard brew pub fare, but what I had was mostly better than the old place.  Noted they use local and organic ingredients whenever possible.

Overall, it's a big improvement from their original location.  It's a great addition to downtown Gresham which is very cute and quaint if you haven't checked it out in awhile.  I hope the community embraces and supports them as a local, home-grown business.  It'll be another option for me coming back from the mountain or after a trek to the Adidas outlet store in Troutdale.

Update:  When 4th Street first was built down the street from my home, I went and gave it a good review with 4 stars (below).  After a few years, I have been there a number of times, and I am reducing my rating to only 3 stars.  It still is a nice place, fun atmosphere, and all of the food with pork is great. (try the pizza with pork).  But, a brewpub should have good beer. And 4th street just doesn't.  You are forced to choose between cheap terrible quality domestic lagers, or the brewpub beers brewed there, which I really *want* to like, but just don't. Their beers just are not good. And, for some inane reason, they refuse to put on any guest taps.

If they ever bring in some better guest taps, I'll come back and raise my 3 stars to 4.

    ---------------

Very nice place.  The bar area is large and open, with lots of seating and a number of lage screen TVs.  The restaurant area is nice, kind of like a Standords, maybe slightly more casual.

In terms of food, anything with their Pork is great.  The Pork Nachos in the bar, or the Maui Wowii Pork pizza in the restaurant are good choices.  Childrens meals are kind of so-so.

Living on the outskirts of Portland, it can often be too much of a drive to get to a brewpub worth going to, so when a friend suggested this location in Gresham, we were intrigued but guarded.

And now this is our new favorite spot to have a beer. We arrived at Happy Hour and the wait-staff was friendly - the atmosphere casual. We ordered a few of their speciality beers - one orange-spicey beer that did not agree with me, and a sour cherry brew that was heavenly. I've had cherry beer before that tastes like cough medicine. So the sour at the end was a welcome change.

We ordered a delicious spinach dip and chicken strips - they were out of the strips so we opted for BBQ pulled pork sliders. So good! Best pulled pork I've ever had - with a hint of hot that was easily washed down with the beer.

The waiter didn't charge us for the first beer (probably because our first appetizer choice was not available), and we tipped him the difference.

This is definitely a place I would return to. It's tough to find bar food that doesn't taste like cardboard and a good fruity beer on tap. This is our new favorite pub spot!

I have been anxious to try some of 4th Street's beers for a while, especially since you never find them at the festivals.  The wife and I braved the trek to quaint downtown Gresham, but all I have to say about 4th Street is: Meh.

The Eager Beaver IPA was uninspired and unbalanced.  The hop mix provided a too crispy bitter aftertaste.  Not a very good IPA.  The Seasonal "Poor Richard" was a nice beer.  Reportedly based on a recipe from Benjamin Franklin, and using as many era specific ingredients as possible, this brown ale made up for the skunky IPA.  I would give their beers, especially their seasonals, another try.

The food was way overpriced and unoriginal.  My wife had a burger, not bad, she reported, but not great either.  I had the Mac Attack, their version of Mac and Cheese.  Supposedly "creole seasoned" with pepper jack cheese, but I tasted none of these flavors.  A Michaelina's mac and cheese for 69 cents from Winco provides the same level of cheesiness and flavor.  Back to the overpriced:  $40 for two pints, a burger, and mac and cheese?  Not cool.

The service was adequate, but I can't say much more.  Our server was attentive, but did not go the extra mile.

I just really get the impression that the owners are trying way too hard.  They need to focus on the beer, keep the food simple, and they would be better.  That said, if stuck in outer East County, Edgefield is a much better choice.  I wish that was not true, but it is.

This place probably deserves some "meh" 2 star status, but I am bumping it up to a 3 because our server got an A for effort... other wise things were just kind of "meh".

First of all, the food seemed overpriced.  The entrees ranged in price from $14-17 and that didn't even include soup or salad (it was a buck or 2 more to add it).  We opted to go for the more traditional, cheaper pub food items of a burger and a chicken tenders wrap, but those were still around the $10 mark.  I had the wrap, and it was ok.  I am sure some people would love it, I just found it a little bit heavy on bacon, cheese, and chicken tender batter, and not quite heavy enough on actual chicken or lettuce.  Overall, a nice flavor though.

The beer was definitely "meh" quality, with nothing very interesting, and they didn't offer anything to meet my need for a nice hoppy beer, the most hoppy one they offered really fell flat, without any of the complexity that I have come to appreciate from other Oregon breweries.

We ordered cheesecake to go, and although it is still sitting in my fridge at home waiting to be devoured, I was disappointed that they did not include the whipped cream with it that was listed in the menu.  It's the little things like this that seemed to add up to the overall "meh" experience.

And like I stated before, out server really tried.  She worked hard to make us happy after our food ticket went "missing" (who knows if it was her or the kitchen staff) and we waited twice as long to get our food.  She comped our first round of drinks to make up with it, which is a sure fire way to win back your customer's love.  So, she was good, but everything else was just about "meh".

My wife and 2 small children were looking for someplace to eat on a saturday evening in the area and came across the 4th st brewing co.  i popped in to look at the place and the menu, thought it looked terrific and called in the family. we were promptly seated but waited a few minutes for our server.
Our server gave my wife and i the impression that she really did not want to be there, waiting on families, when she could be in the bar area where it was a little more happenin'.  she never smiled throughout our experience, rushed us through our menu choices, never offered any opinion or information about the beer, the brewery or the food.  The kids enjoyed their food, as they were ravenous when we arrived, and the turkey reuben was delicious, but my burger, (which i had to wait for for several minutes after first the boys were served, then my wife,) was overcooked and dry with one little sheet of old lettuce, a dried out slice of roma-sized tomato, and several slivers of jullienned red onion as garnish.
The Helles was fine, I've had both better and worse, served in over-size imperial pint glasses.  The restaurant, bar and restrooms were very clean, bright, new-looking.  I left with the impression that if the operators had just dialed it down a couple of notches and created a pub with pub-like atmosphere and prices, they could have nailed it.  However it appears that they are over-reaching into territory a bit too upscale for what boils down to pub fare.  the food quality certainly lacked, the service was awful, the beer passable, the restaurant beautiful.

Their sports bar is amazing! I loved the space and the atmosphere. It's a good-looking bar. My party and I went there two nights in a row and thought it was great that our bartender remembered us from the night before. He was a GREAT server.

Both my sister and brother-in-law ordered their Powell Porter beer which they said had a chocolatey taste that they both enjoyed. However, my sister did enjoy their Gresham light beer a lot better.

As for myself, my bartender made great long island iced teas; the best I've ever had to be honest.

We ordered of off the happy hour menu and got their supreme fries. Talk about goooooooood fries. I thought the fries were well worth the $2.95 we spent it. It was more than a bargain.

I loved it there and plan on going back when I come back to Oregon.

I'm disappointed in myself for not visiting 4th Street sooner. This restaurant is a very, very welcome addition to downtown Gresham. It brings a so-to-speak edge and trendiness to this quaint center of town.

Solid beers (especially the 20oz pints!), fun menu, and the interior is gorgeous, especially the bar. Seems like it would be an excellent joint to plop down and enjoy a Blazer Game.

The food presentation and taste wasn't spectacular but that's cool. It was still tasty.

The staff was attentive, although it wasn't peak dining time.

This place has accomplished a restaurant's #1 goal. They had us content and wanting to return.

Sooooo, I have been to 4th St. a couple of times now. The food is decent, the fries are down right delicious! They have a really nice beer selection and from what I have heard they have a good happy hour. I have never had to wait for a table but I have had to wait for service, and wait, and wait, and wait. Some of their staff seem a lot more interested in talking to each other than any of the patrons. I may have caught them on a bad day, I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt....Even with improved service my review would have only improved by a half a star or so. Good atmosphere, a little dark in the main restaurant but has a great bar with plenty of tvs to watch the game. They also have pretty decent prices. Will be going back when I am looking for a good burger and beer.

This one of the first places I went when I moved to Gresham. The staff is friendly and laid back. Happy hour prices are normal for a brewery like this. Wedesday night is pint night though so $1.50 a pint. The pulled pork sliders had good flavor but lacked visual appeal. I recommend their demented duck red beer. Overly a great place and some where I will be a regular.

This place was obviously designed well, with a nice looking bar and restaurant sides, with large windows into the brewhouse. The bar has a ton of TVs with sports constantly on, and it always looks clean.
The beer is decent, with a non descript cast of regular beers and usually 2-3 seasonals that are usually the way to go. Recently had a Maibock and Scottish 80/-, for example. The beers are frequently not to style, but drinkable. The regular beers are typically lower alcohol than at other places, but coming in imperial pints it is almost necessary to avoid getting sloshed. The seasonals are frequently higher percentage.
The food is decent, slightly larger variety than many brewpubs with many offerings beyond burgers and fries. The prices are a little high, though. Really good garlic fries, and decent jambalaya.
It's located smack dab in downtown Gresham. If you're stuck out in East County, it can be a  decent option for local beers instead of a McM's.

Still a 2 star but I hear they have more of a beer selection. When I first visited this place it was pretty new still. Prices are still a bit high.

If you happen to be passing through Gresham, this place is worth checking out. Their pizza was very good, and one of the only place I've found in Portland to have green olives as a topping(my fav). On to the beer sampler. The IPA, Helles, and double pils(?) were great. The rye and black IPA were not. I'm a huge fan of these type of beers and I could barely finish these two. Ah well, I'll be back. It's a fun place and a shining light in city center Greaham.

We just had a "Going away" party for 2 firefighters here and had a great experience! The beers are quite good, the food was good, normal brewpub type food, not over the top good just good. Our party was BIG! With it being firefighters, we drank a lot of beer and had fantastic service! It is a great addition to downtown Gresham!

The food is good and very reasonable priced. The drinks aren't the best but the food and service makes up for that!

Food is pretty good, but a little high priced. Beer is ok, but nothing spectacular. Nice clean & modern atmosphere. Lots of space/big bar area. In Portland this place wouldn't be anything special, but it's by far the coolest thing in downtown Gresham.

Absolute meh. The beers were hit-or-miss, but none were spectacular. Tje food was all right, but overpriced. I guess it's pretty good for Gresham, though. I work in Troutdale and that's too far a drive to make it worth a visit.

Location and decor is wonderful.. food is bland however. Not much to see here really. Your typical tavern food but not in a good way. Had the mac and cheese and was not sure why you would have to have salt it but there you go. Very bland food.. disappointing. I have gone a few times just to give it another go. The menu needs reviving and maybe the cooks need to pick what they like to make.

Eh....I've had better. I like the atmosphere a bit, but the food is average and the cost above average. Not really a fan.
