Atlantic Ave-Pacific St (2, 3, 4, 5, M, N, Q, W, R, B, D)
Fulton St (G)
Lafayette Ave (C)
I hang out here a lot. =)
It's not too far from subway station, on Atlantic Avenue.
There's few bars in and around the street, but i like this one!
Lots of beers on tap and a pretty little garden and outdoor seating.
I can bring food from next door cafes and junk food.
The owner is so nice!
I should have written this review a long time ago, because I love this place! I come here so much!
I was too shy. Not any more!

Fun bar in Brooklyn... I came here thanks to Jax W, who invited a bunch of yelpers and friends of hers. They have a large beer selection, both on tap and by the bottle, which is always good. And not to miss is the garden in the back, which is pretty big and a great place to relax with some friends after a long week. I'd definitely be there more often if it wasn't that out of the way for me. 4-1/2 stars.

Of all the places new to the nabe, 4th Avenue Pub nails it. Everyone here kinda said it best. I'd like to thank them for doing what other new bars in the area haven't: blended in seamlessly.
Loud, Loud, Loud. Good beer, nice staff, friendly atmosphere. But too loud for me. Garden is great; glad I don't live nearby though as it is also LOUD. You may not have heard me the first three times I said that it is loud. Did I mention that this place is loud?
This place is awesome -- unpretentious, stellar beer selection, reliably chill patrons.
I had a birthday party here, and about 30 ppl came, mingled happily with the crowd. The best part was, whenever someone asked what I wanted to drink, I told them to pick any beer that they thought I'd yet to try. Can't wait till it's weather dries up -- the back patio is spacious.
Also, there's a rumor of free cookout grub -- can anyone confirm?
Oh, and @Kate B, re "stick their asses in your face if you happen to have a booth": you are quite right. Proof here: http://www.flickr.com/...
I can't seem to disagree with all the other folks giving 5's on here. I finally got to this locale on 4th ave and had a great time taking advantage of the $2 off happy hour deal starting at 3pm and going until 8pm! That is a real and solid happy hour. They had fresh popcorn popping and a serious amount of beers on tap and in the bottle. So happy Brooklyn Inn was closed and it was a sunny day to walk up here and check it out. It was also fun playing hooky from work. Still wish they had a pool table but I'll live.

It's just a great place to be. Not be seen ... you feel me?
So unpretentious. Not kitschy. If I lived in the 'hood this would be my Cheers.
I got to play here for New Year's Eve 2007. I had a total blast. A heapin list of beer to drink but for me 2 shots of patron and a glass of champagne and I was good to go. Plenty of space for me and my friends to be silly. And BONUS popcorn machine! That's just wild.
I wish I had been in jeans and not in my party dress but a fun time had by all. Can't really say much else that hasn't already been said except for sorry to the girlfriend of the hot Brooklynite that I kept staring at and possibly might have flirted with, I was drunk and ask that you not hold me responsible for my actions.

I was a big fan of the Read Cafe's (R.I.P.) backyard garden, and this has become my new favorite destination for afternoon drinking in the summertime. Very chill place to read a book or chat. Can't wait for warmer weather.

EXCELLENT Beer selection. I'm a beer lover and this place has old and new favorites on tap and among their bottled selection. This is the place to bring your beer snob friends if you're in Boerum Hill or Park Slope.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff make it even better.
I'd give it 5 stars for early evenings and weeknights. 3 stars for weekend nights when all the youngsters crowd in and stick their asses in your face if you happen to have a booth. Two rival groups of young hipsters got in a fight for my group's booth when we exited during the Saturday night mating ritual scene. It was really something I'd expect to see in Williamsburg, and seemed quite out of place in the 4th Ave I've grown to enjoy during weekday early evenings.
New Favorite Bar. NFB.
There are plenty of reasons to give this bar 3 stars. I can see it getting cramped in the front by the actual bar, but there is a decent amount of space and seating in the back, for conversation, for life, for living, for drinking, for eating, for conversation, for life, etc.
Here's why five star status: Chalkboard bathrooms. I wrote, "2 girls, 1 cup, 4000 hilarious reactions". A really solid list of beers on draft and bottled, lots of full bodied ales that really kick my ass, from Pleasantville to Belgium. Terrific music, and that's coming from the owner's iPod. Easygoing style, you pull up a stool, awkwardly crane your neck to one of the two tvs perched high above the bar, and watch in silence. Happy hour is 2 dollars off everything, which means you should try their more expensive beers while still saving money for the kids. A Specials song was playing, and I was wearing a Specials shirt. Which was kind of awkward I guess.
Here was my experience which led me to five stars though: the bartender, a lovely woman Nicole, she didn't want to DJ, too modest of course. I suggested she put in my iPod, I set it to a mix I made a few weeks ago. The place was digging it (there was dancing, to the Pipettes of course), but I had a Braid song thrown in there, and this dude who ends up wanting to jam, he's like, I haven't heard a Braid song in a bar, much less in the past 5 years anyway. And we will raise goblets of rock. This is musical bonding.
What bar would actually let you just put your iPod on? What chops, what balls, what fervor. Best thing is, the place is right off the Atlantic-Pacific stop. ANYONE can get here. Anyone. And it's next door to Pacific Standard, another proud bar of beers.

Honestly, I don't have too much to add the choir of praise already being sung in the reviews. But what's that they say about another voice in the choir making the song more beautiful? Or maybe it just makes it louder. I don't have a very good singing voice. But I've already started, so I'll continue. Plus I have to back up my 4th Avenue Drinking Buddy Ben B.
Yes, this place is great. Jacob, the owner, knew what he was doing and knows what he is doing. They offer many, many different beers on tap, and for $2 off Monday-Friday 4-8! Can you think of another place where you will pay $3 for a pint of Green Flash IPA? Didn't think so.
What else? Very good popcorn. Fast, friendly, tip-i-licious bartenders.

4th Avenue Pub is my local watering hole. I started going there just a few weeks after it opened because I am a beer geek and I always know when great beer places are opening. And this is a great beer place -- around 24 or so draft lines and a killer bottled selection, all carefully chosen by the owners and their beer consultant. There are always a few easy-drinking beers on draft, and there are always a few beers to make the uber beer geek salivate. For all you Anglophiles out there, they also usually have one cask -conditioned beer on.
But this place is so much more than just a beer bar. It has an excellent backyard patio in the warmer months, complete with a grill for hot dogs and burgers; a good jukebox, though the music tends to be better when the bartenders hook up their iPods (never trust the general drinking public to play good music); and an excellent selection of other booze, including a nice whiskey and bourbon list, sangria, a few wines, etc.
The happy hour is an unbelievable deal: $2 off all draft beers (and probably deals on other drinks, but I usually only get draft beer). The bartenders are friendly, fun, attentive, and cute. There is free popcorn (but no pizza or any other food except for the summer cookouts, Jennifer R. from Brooklyn. You must be confused).
The clientele is as true a Brooklyn mix as you can get -- yuppies, hipsters, blue collar locals, beer geeks. All in all, this place has a little bit of everything for everybody. Highly recommended, and the third and best leg of the 4th Ave. bar circuit.

What a place. Bars dont get much cooler than this. The atmosphere is great and the selection of beer is amazing. they got 25 on tap, a whole bunch of reserves, and then about another 25 in bottles. The prices arent to bad either. They give you samples if you think you want to try something but your not sure. All in all this is a wonderful place located pretty close by.

My Wife and I went here this Thanksgiving weekend and had a great time. The place was hopping but didn't feel crushed by humanity.
I love the free popcorn and that they keep it popping all night is terrific. The bartenders let us sample any beer we wanted in very fun little mugs like at Disney World. The beer selection was great and I found a new favorite Winter Warmer by Harpoon like drinking a pumpkin pie in a glass. HMMMMM.
This place definitely surpasses Cherry Tree in all aspects
Great Place worth the trip from anywhere.

4th Ave Pub is great. I went because I had read great reviews on Yelp and i like to try new beers. i got there before my party and sat at the bar. the pub is very welcoming and i felt like i could have hung out there by myself all night and not been uncomfortable. but my friends did come eventually and we all sat at the bar and tried many different beers all night, which the bartenders encouraged us to try a sip of before we picked.
they have many beers draft & bottled beers at $5. AND they have free serve yourself popcorn available. mmm... there is plenty of room for a big crowd in the back, but i enjoyed sitting at the bar it had a very cozy feel and i liked the crowd that was there. i think if i lived closer this would be my neighborhood bar.

I enjoy this place immensely. Free popcorn? YES PLEASE!
Delish beer? mmmhmm!
Sweet outdoor space? you bet!
There's not much NOT to like about this place. The last time I went there was some confusion about our pizza order, but the bartender was new and comped us a pie in the end (plus we just drank enough to ward off our hunger), so it's all good.
I'd say the best part about this place is the location, though-- if you're not digging it, it's very simple to just hop across the street to Cherry Tree, or meander a couple more blocks somewhere else.

If you love great beer and great music and popcorn and outdoor patios and cute bartenders there's really no reason to spend a night anywhere else. This place on the border of Park Slope and Boeurum Hill... (Boerum Slope? Target Valley?) had about 25 drafts, 40 bottles, a cask now featuring Sixpoints Apollo Wheat, plus a nice selection of whiskys. There's technically a jukebox but Kevin the bartender usually puts on his ipod. He probably has better taste in music than you anyway.
If anyone says they like Cherry Tree better I will fight them.

It wasn't a very Happy Thanksgiving until I showed up at the 4th Ave Pub. My whole day was a shambled mess until I sat down and had a Guinness here. All my troubles seemed to just bury themselves away. The bartender was so chill and friendly I felt like I knew her my whole life. A few patrons entered the doors and it was like one big happy family. That's when I knew my turkey day was just as it should be. Since that day, I've always enjoyed it here. This bar has a great feel to it. The ambiance is warm and inviting. The backyard, like other yelpers reported, is just as enchanting as an evening in a meadow. There's also popcorn that you can munch on while you watch a subtitled film on IFC. Yes, yes. The music is an eclectic mix of both new and past favorites. 4th Ave Pub is an example of how a bar should be run. It's an awesome establishment.
This bar is nothing short of amazing. With 2fers for happy hour, always free popcorn (self serve), and free BBQs on the patio over the summer whats not to like.
The first time I went to this place, I saw the lineup of taps and nearly fainted, it's just unreal. They love their local brewers and will always have them on tap, not to mention micro's from all over the country, and several imports.
The place has the local-yocal bar feel and thats the experience you'll have. Everyone there is super friendly including pets. (Yes, they are pet friendly so you may see the occasional beagle drinking beer right along with you.)
During the summer its perfect, sitting outside under the umbrellas, with walls covered with ivy, and some tree's providing some shade, its the perfect environment to enjoy a good brew.
If your looking for a fun game while the beer takes control of your motor skills, watch the bug zapper over the summer and count how many big ones and how long it takes to zap em. It's always a kick hearing that big zap and watchin' that sucker cook.
one of my best friends essentially lives on one of the stools at this place, and was always singing its accolades to me, telling me i needed to come by. sadly i was always working when he was going. i FINALLY stopped by one monday night to catch the tail end of the pats/ravens game, and i now get it. its not that there's anything remarkable or amazing or unusual about this place...it just FITS. it's unassuming, modest, gives GREAT head (i speak of their beer selection!!! get your mind out of the gutter), and satiates your snacky cravings with perfectly stale and salty popcorn. i'm totally crushin on this place bigtime. it's everything you want your neighborhood bar to be. you just dont want anyone else to find out about it and fall in love with it.

I love this place so much!!!
I live quite close, so I was happy to see something other than a tire store open on this up-and-coming stretch of 4th Avenue. The first few weeks it was alarmingly dead and so dimly lit that I could never tell if they were slinging beers or if something more illicit was going on. There would only be a few people inside, despite a sign promising 24 beers on tap and 24 bottled beers, and a 2-for-1 happy hour from 4 to 8 PM every day. Then they turned on a few lights and people started to show. And the people did not look like the fratboy jackoffs from Cherry Tree (across the street).
So I finally patronized with a girlfriend on Saturday night and I was quite pleased. Nice bartender, great beer selection, solid music and even free popcorn. Great place to take a serious beer drinker, especially for that happy hour special. It's not the most exciting decor (dark wood, exposed brick and candles) but it's functional, with a long bar and smaller tables in the front, and larger low tables in the back for groups. And I heard rumors that they have a back garden, so I'll want to check it out even more in the spring.

i love this bar. totally non-pretentious while having a length y list of brews. great atmosphere and the bartenders and owners are super friendly. love the backyard (now with a heated tent in the winter!!!). tops. this is my place.
First off, I've never been to 4th Ave Pub on a weekend, so I don't really know how crazy it gets. I've heard it's bananas, which means I will probably never go.
That said, this is one of the few bars that I visit regularly that is outside of my comfort zone in Carroll Gardens. It is nicely sized, simply decorated, and generally welcoming. I've had a few different bartenders and they've each been extremely cool. Same with the owners, who seem to put it a lot of time in the place.
The main reason to go is the beer selection. They have 24 taps, most of which are legit craft beers. They don't worry about having the usual suspects on tap, so don't plan on beering it up if you're looking for four pints of Stella. I give them a lot of respect this.
Keep in mind that I have Boat, Abilene, and Brooklyn Social within walking distance, so the fact that I hike it over to 4th Ave Pub says a lot.
They have a killer backyard. If you like drinking al fresco and are still sad about the reduction of backyard spaces on Smith, this alone might make it worth the trip.
Prices are very fair for the craft beers. Instead of serving everything in a pint glass and upping the prices, they serve beers in appropriate glassware and price it accordingly. This is also useful if you don't pay attention to alcohol content, as many of those micros are hella strong.
Highly recommended.

You know what would be cool? A pool table in the back. And maybe a couch or two. It's a little like camping if you're not sitting at the bar. That said, I have a nice warm winter lining thanks to the beer here - so damn good.

This place will become one of my new favorites. I wasn't too keyed up by the draught selection, but their bottle list was pretty kickass. I hadn't had a Schneider Weiss in six months, and it really hit the spot. The service was excellent! I had a Gaffel Kolch which was skunk to the point of non-drinkability, and the extremely attentive barkeep didn't charge me for it. They also have a very nice liqour selection, free popcorn, and a juke with the Stooges on it. We were told that they had free burgers, dogs, and veggie-jobbers from the grill out back on weekends too. Prices weren't the cheapest I've seen, but hell, all the extras make it worth your yankee dollar.
I hate change. I rarely go outside of my comfort zone when eating or drinking...I like my precious Brooklyn Inn and it is really the only place I would ever go in Boerum Hill. However Bridget C. and I were feeling adventurous so we popped into 4th Ave for a beer or two...I have to say I'm impressed. Nice vibe, great service, and excellent selection of beers. I have to admit...I like it and I will probably be back. Now that wasn't so bad was it Katie?

There are a few great qualities you look for in a pub:
1. Awesome bartender
2. Not a total dive
3. Not a frat party waiting to throw up on you.
This recently opened bar has all those qualities and then some. While it's still in it's coming along stages, it has the neighborhood feel and great selection of beers on tap that keep me going back.
In the summer they serve up free BBQ (burgers and hot dogs) and always have fresh free popcorn on hand- and there's nothing in this world better than a fist full of popcorn and a good beer.
And might I add, it's got a clean bathroom unlike it's across the street neighbor, Cherry Tree (aka fratboy hideaway).
-------------------------
Update 3/21/08
They've add a heated tent in the backyard and chalk boards to the bathrooms..... I just may move into this bar.

Haha, should have known that if Jax has been here, it's a good place!!
Ended up here Friday night after some very serious hours of happiness with coworkers. Swizz. Threw back some drinks, kudos to the bartender, made an excellent vodka tonic. And for sure kudos on the amazingly clean bathrooms, both of them. Rock. Within a 10 block stumbling distance of my favorite couch to crash on? Damn straight I'll be back!
Fantastic beer selection and it's a cool place to just relax and hang out what more could you ask for. It's not the biggest place in the world so it give off cozy feel. I definitely recommend this place to anybody. I can't say much about the weekends but i heard it gets packed.
Good beer selection. Good bartenders. Good backyard. Good bathrooms. Prices are average. Overall, pretty darn good. Need to stop pressing the juice out of the burgers though.
