This market has got the best produce around. Freshest, Cheapest, Ripest, ... you will literally not find this value anywhere else. The selection is better here than any other produce market that I have been to as well.
They also carry Calandra's Bread, which is one of the best Bakeries in the area. Have a pretty decent and very cheap Deli Counter with some Italian Specialties as well as the run-of-the-mill Cold Cuts. They have many fresh Herbs and Spices, as well as the larger containers of Herbs and Spices for very good prices. They carry Eggs and Milk for a fraction of the cost that you will find at Supermarkets. They have dried fruits and nuts, some meats, and some dairy. They have a limited amount of grocery items, but I do have to say that their "no name" whole wheat pasta FAR surpasses any Ronzoni or Barilla that you pay more for in the supermarket, . . . it doesn't taste like cardboard at all!!!!
If you are a produce nut, but hate spending the amount of money that you seem to have to these days, . . . you MUST try this place! It is a diamond in the rough! -

You gotta accept this place for what it is, but I've been going here for 3 years now, and I am grateful it exists. I eat alot of produce, and am a poor grad student unable to buy organic whole food-ish type of produce. One day, one day....
Enter this place. They always have cheaper produce than any grocery store. And oftentimes so discounted you buy way more than you need. But yes- often it is on its way out or a little ugly. So inspect, choose carefully. I used to go to Corrados until every single time I would come home with a substantial amount of rotten fruit. This place is way better, they have a fresher, better maintained produce department. It's a little far from where I live now, but absolutely worth it if i have a little time to trek out to rt 46.
I think the meat market next door sucks, not worth your time or money. I think it caters to a halal crowd, but really only has mostly frozen food and the meat is a little...off. -

After moving into the area, it took me a while to find this place. Looks like a meat market is planning on opening right next to it - potentially making this location a one stop shop for basic essentials.
Positives:
- Fresh produce. Where else are you going to find large bundles of fresh thyme or green onion with root balls and all.
- Great value. Where else are you going to find bundles of spices (thyme, parsley, etc) for 0.99$ a bundle or loose (you pick) mushrooms for close to 1.50$/lb?
- Cut flowers. Not sure on the cost as I didnt buy any, but looks like they have a miny factory here to make whatever you want.
- Convenience. They have other staples such as whole wheat durum pasta, canned beans, real soy sauce, etc.
Negatives:
- Location. Only accessible via Route 46 East between Riverview Dr and Union Blvd. Parking lot is next to a Sleepy's and auto dealership.
- Inconvience. If you want deli meats or smoked mozzarella, basically anything not fresh produce, you need to pay separately at another counter. Not sure why - different owner? However, this is highly inconvenient.
- Price Spikes. Sometimes there is a price spike. For example, one week Red Peppers were nearly 3.79$/lb and then 2 weeks later they were 1.99$/lb.
Despite the negatives, I have made this my shopping center. This works quite well when you make everything from scratch - from homemade potato and leek soup to dumplings to pizza. -

This place ROCKS. If you can manage to find it, it's worth the trip.
They carry lots of variety of produce, of high quality, at really good prices. Way fresher and cheaper than Shop-rite down the road. You can almost always count on them having some sort of special deal on berries or some other delightful fruit -- yesterday it was 99 cents for a half pint of gorgeous raspberries! (I get excited about my fruit) Also they always have really nice herbs at good prices, even if they are a bit sandy.
They've also got a pretty basic italian market inside, with lots of varieties of frozen raviolis, and other stuff.
Don't expect to find much besides produce and the occasional italian specialty there... minimal groceries beyond that.
UPDATE - I drove by last night and realized it might be hard to find... from Rt 46 East, look for the Nissan Dealership. The produce market and Nissan Dealership share an entrance off 46. After you do the hairpin turn to go West again, keep following the road and it will lead you to the produce market. -

UPDATE 8/19/10 - What's happening to my farmer's market on Rt 46?? Lately, I've been very disappointed - small grapefruit, bruised fruits, wimpy selections of veggies - are they competing too much and ready to close up shop...seems like it. I'm very upset - have been going to Corrado's in Wayne...they are making up for my limp fruits and veggies from the Rt. 46 farmer's market :(
I just sent my cousin from out of town to the farmer's market for flowers... If you want some awesome, long living, fresh cut flowers - GO HERE. If you want some of the best, juiciest, longest lasting fruit and veggies - GO HERE! This place has the best fruit/veggies around (I don't buy anything at the supermarkets anymore, because everytime I do, it's either dry or doesn't last more then 2 days - and is way overpriced). The Rt. 46 farmer's market has always been 100% in my book - even when I lived about 30 minutes away in Butler, I would travel down here just for my apples, grapes, and other essential fruits and veggies. PLUS - the cheapest eggs and milk around! -

When I first heard about this place, I turned my nose up. "Farmers Market on Route 46? Gross."
Oh, how wrong was I!
This place is amazing. You can get an obscene amount of fresh produce for a ridiculously cheap price... no really, ridiculously cheap. It's mind-blowing. The produce is also actually fresh, so it doesn't wilt or rot as soon as you bring it home. Highly recommended. Incredibly superior to the Shop Rite and A&P closeby. -

This is one of the only reasons I enjoyed living in Essex county, because I was in the proximity of this place. Their prices were dirt cheap and the produce is so freaking fresh- it's a pleasure-as my grandpa would say. Seriously, get your summer fruit there, melons, watermelons, they have so many different kinds. They have delicious pineapples for reasonable prices, different kinds and varieties of fruits, many types of pears - when they are in season-apples-oranges-the lemons and limes are an AMAZING VALUE. The vegetables are unbelievably fresh and such a great value, it's really one of the best places around. GO. Now. No really, get in the car.
