45RPM has been around for many years in Japan. It it a brand with a unique take on traditional dyeing methods and modern casual clothing. Some pieces in this store are vintage inspired, but for the most part, they make clothing that you can throw into some soap and water and hang dry. No dry cleaning bill, no special care.
The shop itself is great. You have to come in just to explain it because words don't do it any justice. Prices are a bit high, but sometimes you have to pay a little more for product from people who just get it. -

The display in the window that flows into the hallway right now are at least 100 single cotton stalks, about 3 feet high, in crystal geyser water bottles half filled with what look like white beads. It's quite lovely.
I stopped by based on the recommendation of a raw denim loving friend who said the store was beautiful. I was not disappointed. After looking at some jeans, I started touching gorgeous sweaters and scarves. They were just so soft.
The staff was really nice even though I had put my grubby hands all over eveyrthing but didn't buy anything. Even though they felt amazing, I wasn't looking to buy a $350 scarf. -

The architecture and decor of this store gets a 5 star rating.....it is quite possibly the most unique and beautiful store I have been into. Used brick, wood, incense, retro accessories, old doors...rock floor with water in it! I cannot explain how incredible it is. Beautiful! Worth the trip to see it!
The clothing......Japanese designed denim and gauzy shirts for men and women. Pretty pricey for denim. Hubby bought a button down, $343. -

Unless you work in the industry and/or have connections, 45R is the destination for some of the nicest jeans and denim inspired clothing you can find in the USA.
If not, break out the plastic because when you're looking at super slubby hand-dyed indigo vegetable yarn-dye hand-picked organic Pima cotton from Zimbabwe produced on vintage Levi's 30" narrow selvedge shuttle looms in Japan, you know it isn't going to be cheap (basic jeans start out at $333 and some exotic finished models on the top-end go for $1,000+).
The tops offered here are high quality woolens hand-crafted in Japan, featuring such subtle details as beautiful hand-dyes and hand-spun woven garments.
In their spring collection, they sell tops made from a special light-weight "supergauze" that is so unbelievable soft you would never believe it.
Their SoHo location (R by 45rpm) only stocks one-washes so if you want to buy raw denim jeans, these folks uptown are the people you'll be dealing with.
This is probably my favorite clothing shop in the USA. I want my home to look like this store.
