Very good food thanks to the real Italian Chef - milanese's word! -
Good cocktails and nice people at the bar.
.. but I wouldn't define this restaurant for "young costumers"!

I rarely am at a loss for words when dining out most of the time the experience is meh.... this was a quite the contrary.

I started my experience off with some of the warmest greetings by the staff of Phil Stefani's, once seated our waiter was very kind to help my friend and i with the menu and gave us al the time we needed to find the right choice, we were not rushed at all...

I decided to get the Mozzarella + Tomato appetizer, the Mozzarella was firm on the outside and melt in your mouth heaven inside, the tomatoes tasted vine ripened and the balsamic/pesto was the bomb.....

After that i had the veal shank, cooked perfecto like my mothers 9 hour pot roast, fork tender in a very amazing tomato sauce

As if that was not enough i got the dark chocolate soufflé, simply amazing all around

The food was on point, the staff was not up my ass but extremely attentive... It is pricy but i do feel very much you get an experience and cuisine on par with the money you pay.

I am so glad this place is located right below our office building! They've got drink specials every weekday and a special bar menu with discounted light bites until 7pm. I personally love their grilled calamari...I believe they use some herb-infused oil and delicious olives. I haven't had the chance to try anything off their dinner menu yet, but I hear their lobster bisque is amazing.  I tried one of their desserts...I think it was the Tartufo al Cioccolato (Italian Zabaione cream center, surrounded by chocolate gelato, caramelized hazelnuts and cocoa, served with warm Tahitian Vanilla sauce).  I'm not a fan of sweets, but this wasn't too sweet and was simply delicious!

Even if the food wasn't spectacular (which it is), I would still come here because their staff is so friendly and inviting! After what seemed to be a horrible and endless week for me, I stopped by the bar for a drink and the calamari that I love. Trish, the bartender, is always so sweet and friendly.  Ismet (the Restaurant Manager) even stopped by himself to make sure I was enjoying myself.  They really made me feel at home and brightened my day.  I will definitely be bringing my friends here every chance I get!

I don't think there is ever much reason to spend a ton on pasta & tomato sauce and 437 Rush hasn't changed my mind. The food was expensive but not impressive. The service was decent. The coolest, but weirdest, part of the whole dining experience was the opera singer going from table to table. There just isn't much to say about this place because it is not even a little bit special.

This is the type of restaurant you envision when you think of Chicago restaurants: Old school Italian.  Great food, good drinks, friendly, attentive, knowledgeable staff, and an amazing owner!  The menu is big and diverse and everything we ate was fantastic (save the calamari, which was just okay).  The owner came over to our table several times and even serenaded us.  Actually sang us a song!  When he coaxed me into sing a duet from Phantom of the Opera later in the evening, he sent over limoncello as a thank you.

I love this place!  Can't wait to go back!  I would give this place six stars if I could!  It's a hidden gem just down the stairs from Michigan Avenue.  Get the booth in the corner, it's spacious and hosts a great view of the whole Restaurant.

After my reservations were abruptly cancelled the night of my birthday, 437 Rush Restaurant came to the rescue.  They seated us quickly and provided great service.  The lobster bisque was amazing.  I had one of their specials, the asparagus risotto which was outstanding, I just wished that there was more of it.  My husband had the KC cut and thought it was great.  I was serenaded with a birthday song and given a wonderful chocolate cake to cap off the birthday celebration.
I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to have a special night.

Sat outside for dinner and drinks. Fantastic place.

The staff are amazing here. The server that we had, a guy from Raleigh, NC, was wonderful. He made some amazing recommendations that I was extremely pleased with.

Started the evening with seafood platter- fresh oysters, lobster, and shrimp. It was quite filling, actually, for just 2 people.

My main course was zuppe de pesce. It was exquisitely done- I had never had this dish made so well before. This, too, was the server's recommendation. I'm a little bummed I didn't have enough room for dessert as I'm sure it would have been amazing.

Definitely a bit on the pricey side, but the great meal and service was well worth every penny!

Ended up coming here on a last minute decision to participate in Restaurant Week's final Friday. We were able to make a last minute reservation quite easily and there seemed to be plenty of tables available on a Friday after 9.

Food wise, everything was quite good. They had some fantastic oysters that definitely rank up there with some of the best I've had in Chicago. The Caesar salad came in an edible Parmesan bowl that was delicious. The caprese salad was good, not great. I had the steak which was also good and my boo had the salmon which she quite enjoyed. The deserts were both winners in my book. I'm not a tiramisu fan, but ate every last bit of mine, and my boo's cannolis were out of this world. We found ourselves the following Saturday wishing they had a bakery we could pick some up and have at home.

Service was ok, definitely a little pushy. We were there for restaurant week and our waiter did his best to upsell us on everything, and also seemed sad that we had absolutely no interest in the wine list. I like the attention they gave us, but would recommend they ease off on the upselling a little bit. Also at the end of the meal, our waiter told us to enjoy our convention and apologized for the weather, saying that Chicago isn't usually like this. I'm not sure why he said any of that, as I've probably lived in Chicago longer than he has, but that's what happens when you go to touristy places. Also was kind of annoyed the host didn't check me in on Open Table when I clearly honored my reservation and dropped a couple bills there.

At the end of the day, I liked this place. I'm not sure if I'd come back, however, as it has a sort of been-there-done-that type feel. The food was great and I doubt you'd be disappointed, but for the price, 437 enters the elite class of Chicago restaurants, so when I do have that money to spend, I'm not sure there was anything jaw dropping enough to bring me in a second time. Unless, you're buying that is.

OK, "wine down Tuesdays" is just purely amazing. $4 for a glass of pretty decent Chardonnay. And I'm seriously in love with their fried calamari. Probably the best I have ever had...and if you order them before 7:00, they slap on a pretty decent discount.

I have been here several times and have never had anything short of excellent service and great food. Only once have I looked at the daily specials and nothing grabbed my attention so I am not personally too aware of the regular menu but I have never had anyone complain about anything they ordered from there when someone in the group has. Everyone I have ever gone with who selected the frutti di mare has been happy as a clam and I always recommend it to anyone whole likes seafood. Service is ridiculously good. A+  for that and the atmosphere as well.

Restaurant Week in Chicago and one of our stops is Phil Stephani's 437 Rush!  We were excited because we wanted to see what they had to offer for the tasting menu.  We were somewhat happy with the meal but the true plates that stood out were the Caesar Salad and the Tiramisu...man were they awesome!

We had a few drinks and what I would like to highlight is that this is one of the few bars in Chicago that serves Tito's Vodka.  I know I said this in a previous review, but it bears repeating.  Our waiter was very nice and the manager Alfanso(hope this is right it was loud in the bar) was very accommodating.  Great customer service every time!

Now for a tip to the folks that don't check their jackets when dining in a white cloth restaurant:  Check your coat, there is a reason for this! (and a poor buss boy almost broke an ankle because of some cheapas with a long coat!

All in all, great date night and nice evening walk in Chicago that ended talking to the Apple Geeks and sharing knowledge of the new MacBook Pro...What an amazing machine...TANGENT...anyhow girlfriend was ready to go home and watch a movie.

437 Rush personifies the Italian steakhouse here in Chicago.  The restaurant has spacious seating where you do not feel like you are on top of people at other tables or actively participating in their conversations.  There is a fairly large bar area when you enter the restaurant with a couple of TV's if you wanted to have a drink and some appetizers.

The food here was good.  I've had better Italian food at other places around the city, but I was neither Wowed or disappointed by what I ate.  We shared the calamari appetizer, caprese salad, and oysters.  The oysters were very good and came with an assortment of condiments which was nice.  The calamari was fine - nothing special with the breading or the dipping sauce and the caprese was OK as well - it could have used more balsamic vinegar to improve the flavor.

For my main course I had the risotto special that featured mushrooms and Cornish game hen.  The risotto itself was cooked very nicely however the overall flavor of the dish was dominated by the Parmesan cheese used.  I was just expecting something a bit more flavorful with the other ingredients.  Other people enjoyed their dinners although the chicken, in particular, was a bit overdone and dry.

For dessert, we were given a large slice of chocolate cake on the house.  The cake was very good - decadent.  It would take a monster appetite for 1 person to eat it, but shared it was a nice finish to our meal.

The service was attentive and our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and wine selections - so no complaints there at all!

    Fantastico!!

Great atmosphere and great service.  I had an outstanding seafood special with a giant shrimp, giant scallop (mmmm....scallop!), swordfish served over grilled veggies.

Everyone else had juicy steaks but I knew I had reservations at Joe's the next night.

I wish I could remember more but the Jameson's were flowing.......... :)

Overall this place was WAY too tourist-y. Went on a Friday night for a nice date night w/hubby. BIG mistake.

    1. Hostess "accidentally" gave our reserved table to couple that arrived after us... and they got a table that was not on top of a ton of loud jerks (see #3 below).

    2. Friday night before the Chicago marathon, so the bar area was PACKED with lots of visiting drunks.

    3. We were seated in a corner at the end of a booth that was then seated with a dozen SEVERELY drunk and obnovious people that had been overserved at the bar. They were 18 inches away from our table and so loud & crude. The management could have at least asked them to quiet down & cut down on the screamed F-bombs in the dining room (literally everyone was looking, and there were kids here, too.). Awful. Even a couple at the table was embarrassed, as they apologized to my husband when I was in the bathroom & attempted to buy us dessert. Nice gesture, but just asking your friends to not be a-holes would have been a much better tactic. We just stopped talking to one another because we gave up on reading lips and couldn't hear each other on account of the noisy neighbors - ate our food as fast as we could then got the heck out of there with 1/2 a bottle of the wine we wasted $70 on.

Service was lacking (had to hunt down waiter to order), food marginal (steak had no seasoning/taste), ambiance AWFUL. Won't go back.

If you answered one or more of the above, you may or may not enjoy your experience at 437 Rush*!  Service was attentive, but not overwhelming.  I told the waiter that I was planning on ordering pasta, and he recommended the linguine ai frutti di mare, which I went with.  It came with plenty of seafood, and my tummy left filled with carbs.  Happily ever after.

I took the S.O. here for her birthday ;). We sat outdoors on a pleasant eve. Our server was relaxed and friendly and professional.

We shared the eggplant parmesan for an app and it was amazing. I was ready for steak but was convinced to get the pork tenderloin as I've never had a decent pork tenderloin or chop at a restaurant. The waiter said it was worth the gamble as it was his favorite dish. It was fantastic - savory and a little crispy not to mention juicy. I ate everything on my plate.

We ordered the marscapone mashed potatoes -  highly recommended by the S.O.

Mediocre. That's all I need to say about this restaurant. The food was nothing special. The service was pushy, our waiter could see that we didn't have huge appetites and he kept trying to sell us food and drinks.

I ordered asparagus and summer truffle risotto. I wasn't in the mood for fish or steak, which may have been a miss considering that it is labeled as a chophouse. However, I love truffles and was really excited for the dish. My dinner arrived and I saw plenty of truffles shaved on top of a bed of risotto. I was thrilled - Until I took a bite and the truffle was no where to be found. There was no flavor in the dish. My boyfriend had ravioli that were tasty, but the sauce was not.

    I wouldn't go back.

I purchased the Groupon for this place thinking two things.

    1.  that it was a different place
    2. that it would be great for a fancy dinner date with the husband

Turns out the place that had the amazing bacon wrapped shrimp was really Shula's Steakhouse and we never got around to downtown for dinner.  So we went for lunch.

Usually a restaurant is slammed during the last days leading up to their Groupon expiration so we made sure to be there right when the doors opened at 11am.  And we were the only table in the place until almost 12:15!

We had $60 to blow so we ordered the Lobster bisque, the special risotto, the skirt steak special and the kobe beef lunch item.

Lobster bisque was just soup.  I like to see at least a token piece of lobster and this one was just fishy emptiness.  Not worth $8.00

$19.00 Kobe was ordered medium well (husband likes his meat burnt and this was a compromise) but came out really red (yay for me).  It was tasty and the white beans it was served with were good.

$20 for three little medallions of skirt steak and some vegetables with balsamic vinaigrette.  Not at all worth it.

The pancetta risotto was good, but not a $16 value.

The portions were not huge so we ordered dessert.  The chocolate mousse was ridiculously huge for $8 and could have been split between 4 people.

The best thing we ate?  The complimentary bread basket.

In the end our tab with tip was $80.  A ridiculous price for what we received.  The food was a nice quality but nothing special.

Located on a part of Rush Street that I don't frequent often is 437 Rush. This Italian steakhouse came highly recommended to me and for good reason. The food is terrific!

We came without a reservation on a weeknight. Given how busy they were- I recommend making a reservation- a must if it's a weekend. We were seated after a short wait and began to look over the large menu consisting of steaks, seafood and Italian specialties.

We settled on sharing a few of the appetizers- raw oysters on the half shell (two kinds on the night we were there) and an interesting octopus dish marinated and served with beans and tomatoes. Quite tasty.

We split the house salad topped with shrimp and an order of crab legs for our entree. The legs were already split for us and were full and meaty with about 6 to an order- really delicious! We also wanted to try the lobster bisque but they forgot to bring it so we'll save that review for another day.

Dessert was a big disappointment. I had heard about their cannolis and so I saved room to have one. Imagine my surprise when this thing was more like a flattened cream puff than a cannoli. Don't waste your cannoli loving breath on this!

Service was efficient but not necessarily friendly. Our server just couldn't get that we were joking about some things as she was quite serious about everything. Oh well. She did what we needed her to do which was take our order and get the food on the table. The basics were done quite well.

Loved the food. Thought everything else on this visit was just A-OK so that's where we'll leave it today.

It took me 3 months to write this revie.w..I was so disappointed in this restaurant.  Having many positive experiences at other Stafani's restaurants, I had high hopes for this one, and, man, was I wrong.

The food was terrible.  I went with 3 friends and none of us reported a positive comment on the food.  The pasta was super dry and the salad was blah.

The waiter messed up our bill, forgetting that we had a groupon for the meal.

I came here for the nightly $5 drink specials, it is the cheapest special around the area. The cosmos were strong enough to do their job and that's all I was looking for.

The crowd seemed a bit older and touristy to me in there. I am not sure me and my friends really fit in sitting at the bar and being very loud and manic but I don't think anyone complained.

We also arrived 5 minutes after the bar menu was done so we missed out on a few of the smaller plates and ordered off the regular menu. I really liked the bruschetta with the cherry tomatoes and the order of calamari was very generous.

I think if I am around the area I would probably stop in for more of the drink specials because you really can't beat them.

The staff was awesome.  We had super service without feeling like people were hovering over us.  They simply appeared at exactly the right times.  The food was every bit as good as the service.  Calimari, a special of boneless short ribs that melted in your mouth, and the biggest piece of rare tuna I have ever had the pleasure of devouring....  They even made a special dessert for my son.  I have enjoyed a lot of great meals, and this one was near the top of the list.

My colleagues and I had dinner last night at 437. With dinner for 12, I expected service to be slow and mediocre. However, we were promptly seated, service was quite attentive, and we were never in need for anything. Extremely pleasant.

For dinner, I split the Chilean Sea Bass and their special of the slow braised pot roast with a friend. The sea bass was well cooked....not the least bit over done and well flavored. The pot roast was extremely fork tender but a bit salty. It helped when you combined your bites with the polenta to cut the over-seasoning. It seemed that all of my colleagues enjoyed their meals from the seafood pastas to fillet mignons to their salmon. I tried someone's twice baked potato and it was DELISH!!

    Overall, pleasant dining experience.

Went here as part of Restaurant Week.

Friday night and even though the place is only 1/2 full, we are seated in a tight corner behind a server's station.  There was a stapler, roll of paper and a stack of menus 6 inches from BF's head on a shelf.  Klassy.

I asked for the special menu for Restaurant Week and was disappointed in it to say the least.  If I remember correctly there was a risotto, a whitefish and a chicken entree to choose from.  Nothing stood out to us and so we ordered off the regular menu.  I had the King Salmon which was salmon in a Yukon potato crust, served with potato puree, caramelized shallots, toasted bacon and a 10-year aged balsamic vinegar reduction.  BF had a prime ribeye chop.  I had a bite of that and it was absolutely divine.  Mine was good but nothing spectacular. Our waiter was great though.  He was cool, attentive and prompt.

Another beef (HA, pun intended) with this place (and most steakhouses for that matter).  What the heck is the deal with the ala carte crap.  If I am paying $40 for a steak, why cant you toss in a baked potato or some carrots or something.  It is ri - goddamn - diculous that a piece of meat should come plain.  Does a potato tossed in the oven cost that much to make?  Methinks not.

OK, rant over.  Basically an alright place, very nice inside and good service.  I am sorry I have spent 8 years dreaming about going here as it seems more like a place that caters to out-of-towners and people with expense accounts.

OMG - came here last night and was seated next to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!!  Andrea W. - I thought of you :) being from Florida and all.  I wanted to take a picture so badly and get autographs, but my fiance told me to calm down.  We do monthly date nights and my fiance picked out this restaurant for us to try out.

This is definitely something - our waitor was absolutely fabulous, he did however keep on touching his customer's shoulders like a reassurance thing.  We tried the grilled calamari with baby spinach in the bread bowl - not bad - I think however, we have a hankering and preference for the fried stuff though.  We both got the Kansas city cut - absolutely delish and made to perfection.  The sides are HUGE - if I could do it all over again, we'd just order one side and share it.

Their wine list was suitable and very flattering for the food.  And instead of dessert, we topped off with cappuccino.  Valet is affordable here - only $10 - so skip the search for parking and avoid parking in the lots.

    Wonderful experience!

I can't think of anything negative to say about this place: beautiful, best-quality filets, exquisite, fresh and inventively prepared seafood, impeccable service, cozy-chic environment, and excellent wines. Forget Ruth's Chris, Morton's or any of the big steakhouse names for a moment and try this place first.

Everything was perfect on both of two visits (about a year apart) - I don't think 437 Rush has received the attention it deserves by a long shot.

I am not sure why this place isn't more popular.  It always has fantastic food, with generous selections of meat, fish and pasta.  The atmosphere is comfortable and not too dark or noisy.  And the waiters are fantastic at being quick and treating customers well.

Ate here once with the boyfriend and Hillary Clinton was eating there with the Chicago big wigs.  The restaurant seemed so excited and it was pretty cool.

    Lunch on payday

I used to work across the street from Phil Stefani's 437 Rush and it was often an option for lunch. It can be a pricey joint, but you can get buy on a budget if you dine inside the appetizers and soup & salad categories.

Phil even gives you a shot at having felt like you had a substantial lunch by putting a 6 ounce filet on this 437 salad & steak. Start with the lobster bisque, skip the cocktails and you have a very nice lunch for about $20.

I went to the restaurant for valentines day, now every time I go to this restaurant there is atmosphere that just makes you comfortable. There is a gentlemen there that sings songs in opera while you eat which I think it is romantic for an evening like this.

The food was delicious(Rib-Eye Steak 30oz) and they have a unique Caesar salad, in which they serve you in a cheese shell.

So what's even funnier as I was leaving the the gentlemen that was singing for the evening said to me good to see you again. Not paying attention but while waiting for the truck I looked at the guy again and it was my salsa student and I was amazed!

Went here for a work dinner ... i had the 12oz filet and it was great.  the twice baked potato was excellent.  I had a capreses salad to start and it was very well done.  I have no idea what the bill was since i didnt pay :)

Everyone i went with was very happy with their entrees and the service was extremely well done.

I agree with other reviews that this is an underrated steakhouse. I was surprised that we were able to get in on a Friday night (made reservation at 4) so easy.  We came in with a Groupon to offset the price a bit. It is worth it!

Service was excellent from start to finish and from the hostess, to the waiter and the rest of the staff.  Attentive and accommodating but not hovering. Knowledgable but not pushy.   We wanted to split two different appetizers and the waiter made sure we had our own plates - a nice touch.

The food was outstanding. Lobster bisque was amazing and unique.  The cesar salad was tasty and had a twist (baked parm cheese on the bottom).  We ordered the filet and the veal tortellini.  Both were above and beyond what we expected.  The tortellini was served in a bit of an oil sauce (but not too much), was hand made and the veal was perfect. The filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was so tender you didn't need a steak knife. It was a great piece of meat and had wonderful flavor (not the best I've had but definitely up there).

I have not been to all the steakhouses to compare - but I have NOTHING negative to say - hence 5 stars.

I have been twice. I love everything about this place. Its on the pricey side but if your looking for a good meal, I recommend 437 Rush St.
The service is amazing and the atmosphere is fitting. If your not a big meat eater watch out for the extremely large tray of meats that people at your table can pick from.
I also would say hit this place up when you have nothing going on afterwards. After a not so light meal and a bottle or two of wine I was ready to go home and sleep.
The risotto is great and the caprese salad is tasty.

Knock another Stefani restaurant off the list. Came here for dinner tonight and don't get me wrong, the food was good especially the twice baked potato...I had the monte carlo chicken, the SO had the 18oz Kansas City strip...I know this is a "steak house" but I was kinda expecting a little more Italian on the menu, ya know what I mean...We had the bruchetta for the appetizer and a house salad and Caesar salad with our meal.

I can't say enough about the service..everyone we came in contact with was very nice, pleasant and welcoming...our server -- outstanding.

I guess I'm just kinda bummed that there weren't a few more Italian dishes on the dinner menu, guess I'll come back for lunch.

And special thanks to Groupon for making this evening possible.
