We stopped here sort of impulsively one night after seeing Tank pretty much full. I thought their Christmas lights were cute, and obviously that's the best way to choose a bar.
Why, hello beer selection! I love me some beer, and as a woman I like options. They have plenty of both!
I also had a turkey sandwich with melted brie, cranberry chutney and sweet potato spread. It was pretty good, but my boyfriends bacon cheddar burger was way better!
Our server was pretty cool, he comped my drink because I ordered my sandwich sans arugula annnnnnd there was definitely extra extra arugula on there.
Overall, I'd say a great place to stop for drinks in Lincoln Square.

Latitude has quickly become a favorite bar of mine. The food is tasty, the beer is good, the staff is wonderful. Our group that attends every Wednesday night is always well accommodated and has a great time there!

A gleaming copper-top bar, and no problem finding a seat on a Friday night. Friendly bartenders, happily proffering samples from their decent beer list. Fried cauliflower, with a lemony aioli dip. An unremarkable but filling pasta dish with chicken and goat cheese. These are the things which began my impromptu visit to Lincoln Square.

A nice place with friendly service. Lot;s of Tv's and what makes this place special is the back room dining. Quiet... No Tv's.... No one to bother you :) But you have to ask to be seated there... The food was great, drinks good and Bobby our server was FANTASTIC... Even though he like the Red Wings hockey team. ha ha But a really good place to have fun in the front bar or a quiet fun evening in the back room. A

I enjoy this bar for it's laid back yet stylish appeal on a warm summer evening. I have never, until today, eaten here.

I will qualify my review by saying that I suspect the lunch/dinner choices may be better. Brunch left much to be desired. The food was bland and uninspired. I would bet that the eggs and cheese they used on my skillet both came pre-scrambled and pre-shredded, which, if you are breakfast obsessive, you know means cafeteria style eggs that are overcooked nd over-stirred and cheese that develops a plastic feel 30 seconds after it's taken from the heat. Gross. I had to over-douse my dish with hot sauce just to get through. Also, juice from concentrate...they just seemed to cut a lot of corners. And in a city that has so many amazing brunch options, this is definitely not one of them.

Still, the servers all seemed nice and it is a great summertime bar....

This has been a standby of mine for a long time - good food and drink - nice people, but I'm done. Bartender tonight was much more interested with chatting with various friends than making sure everyone else had drinks and no apology after finally noticing.Too many other choices in the area to put up with bad service. Rejoined Yelp just to post this, such is the level of disappointment.

    Terrible. Terrible, terrible terrible.

Bad service, took 30 mins for our food to arrive,  and it was cold.  The food was subpar.  There are 1000 other restaurants in the city that provide better food, better service, and better atmosphere.

After waiting for 30 mins four our food and sipping on the weakest bloody mary of my life, we got our food, took one bite and left.  I would never go back, I would never recommend this to anyone ever.

    Um. Hello.
    Best burger ever!
Like seriously, I've had me a lot of hamburgers but this one, hot damn! Quality beef, seasoned well, the aioli used was perfect and it got to the table hot off the grill. I'm seriously drooling right now. I will recommend this burger to all who will listen!!!
Our server was snarky and funny and on point and we had nice seats out on their patio.
Really, I have no complaints on this restaurants and wonder why they seem to have a "meh" rating.

This place has got lots of specials... some serious daily specials.  Only problem is... it's nothing special.

I'm not sure why I don't like this place.  It seems nice enough, but there's something about it - some vibe that doesn't catch my fancy.

They have a couple decent wine selections on the menu, but both times I tried to order, they were out.  Here's an idea, get rid of the horrid wines, and stock up on the good, drinkable ones.  That said, if beer is your thing, they have a nice outdoor area on the sidewalk.

Today is the first truly gorgeous day we have seen in Chicago since the end of summer 2010. So naturally, it was inevitable that I would be out and about along with every other Chicagoan that goes stir crazy and that manages sporadic bouts of depression during the long, gloom and doom winters that we see in this city.

My friend Kirsten and I decided to take a bike ride up to Lincoln Square, and stop in at a restaurant that had some outside seating, so we settled on 42 Degrees North Latitude. They had a huge outdoor seating area and served bar food that was just slightly more upscale than the greasy stuff you get at whatever dive bar happens to grace your neighborhood.

The guy that seated us seemed ambivalent to be working that day. Who can blame him. It was a gorgeous Sunday and he was stuck serving all of us patrons who were lucky enough to not have to work on such a gorgeous afternoon. With a dismissive attitude, he showed us to our table.

OK so this bar is dog friendly, major PLUS. Considering that I spent the better part of my Saturday watching Dogs 101 on the Animal Planet, I happened to know that the 2 dogs next to us were Brittney Spaniels (excellent family dogs and easily trainable), and I definitely enjoyed their company. Any bar/restaurant that is dog friendly is automatically on my good side.

My only real complaint here was the service. Perhaps since this was the first real nice day, they were understaffed to serve both the inside and outside areas of their restaurant. We had to ask for water twice, our food took at LEAST 30-40 minutes, and when we ordered a second round of drinks, she totally forgot. Our waitress was just sort of blah, as she also seemed to be fantasizing of every other place she would rather be than working on this Sunday afternoon.

We split the vegetarian sandwich and some caesar salad concoction. The Caesar Salad was OK. It came w/ some Chipotle Caesar dressing, black beans, and pumpkin seeds. We ordered shrimp, for $5 extra, which were totally lame. If I am going to spend $5 on shrimp, they better be big ass grilled succulent shrimp...and these were definitely not so. However, I am very impressed with the veggie sandwich. it came with eggplant, zucchini, goat cheese, roasted red pepper and a hummus spread which was, hands down, delish.

I will definitely come back here because I loved that veggie sandwich and they had a nice beer and cocktail list. Also, they have a great outdoor seating area. I will chalk off the bad service today as them being overwhelmed with the crowds given the nice weather, which is the only reason I gave them 3 stars. I hope to be back, with better service, and hence a re-written review with hopefully 1 or 2 more stars.

Oh Latitude....why so much attitude? (Yep, I went there).

I used to pop into the bar about once every two months or so. It was my go-to spot, usually before a show at the Aragon/Riveria for some good comfort food, tasty beer and friendly bartenders. Never very busy but just a consistently good meal.

I came in this past weekend and was so under-whelmed by my experience that I had to Yelp in hopes of getting through to management. Let's do some bullet points:

    1. Asked our server about specials, he said there were none...just a new menu debuting today. Moments later, another server told the table in front of us about their specials for the evening. Fail.

    2. Ordered the Caprese salad to share for a starter. It's a $10 salad so assumed it was meant to share. Our server came back and told us there would be a charge to split the salad so could we just take two plates. Uh hello, it's an appetizer? I have never heard of a split charge on a salad.

    3. Unimpressed by the "new" menu, which was a.) much more pricey and b.) much more limited than before...I ordered the mussels appetizer and a side of truffle fries. For $11, I received 12 mussels. One of them was closed, so therefore inedible. They were tasty but there were just not enough of them.

    4. The "Pièce de résistance" truly was the dessert. We ordered the "vanilla pot of creme" which was simply not good. It was melted vanilla ice cream in a pot. Lame.

We mentioned the dessert was kind of off - our server took our tray away and didn't return for another 20 minutes. At this point, dinner was approaching the 2.5 hour mark but he did comp the dessert.

Please Latitude, drop the fancy menu and bad servers/management and return to your lovely, comfort food roots. Until then...I'll miss you!

After passing by numerous times, my first encounter with 42 Degrees was a meeting point suggested by one of my friend's brothers. And at night, this place does have the right combination of ambience, menu selection, and service to draw you in. Unfortunately the food does leave something to be desired. I had their Kobe burger, which tasted better than some I've had, but also was much smaller. Their chicken and Swiss flautas were good and filling. The other stuff we tried, was okay.
The beer menu, although not extensive, had just enough micro-brews to keep the group happy.

Ambience wise, you can bring your friends here and talk and drink for hours. While I was there I noticed many couples, mainly in their late 30's, and a few families enjoying their dinner. The bar did attract a crowd, but it seemed like a group of regulars, rather than the let's-get-drunk Lincoln Ave crowd. The service was quick and attentive, without being fake or apathetic.

Would I come here again? Sure. Is it my first choice, not at all, by any means.

Pros: Group friendly, decent menu and beer selection, good service, The ambience is nice, particularly at night.

Cons: Food leaves something to be desired.

To sum it up: It's okay. There's definitely much room for improvement.

A few weeks ago I met a friend for brunch here and boy was I disappointed.

The interior was so promising with its wood and large sunny windows. We even sat at a high-top window table which would generally be enough to make me rate something very high indeed!

However the Greek omelette I ordered was beyond pitiful. It was literally ingredients thrown into eggs with no seasoning or finesse. Believe me, I am no omelette snob, but this dish definitely left much to be desired. I could have easily produced something much better in my kitchen.  I doubt I will be coming back unless it's for drinks on the patio.

I have to kick this up a star. I think it's improved. Walking from the Brown Line, on my way to a World music event, I saw the sign "$5 martinis"! So, I heard the siren song, and went in to be dashed on the rocks.

Yes. $5 martinis. A nice size glass too . . . I've paid twice as much for a drink half the size. And well done, also, with blue cheese olives. I only wanted one, it was pretty giant.

And the bartender was sweet and flirty. More stars in place!

Brunch destination and it hit the mark. I previously had a not-so-good encounter for drinks on the patio as the beer menu is extensive but a bit pricey. I felt I needed to give them a fair shake and it was a good decision.

The brunch menu is very modestly priced which I am always happy to see. Everything is under ten bucks for the most part. I couldn't have been happier to see my two favorite breakfast items combined...biscuits and benedict. Buttermilk biscuits, sausage patties, poached eggs and sausage gravy. I could have licked the plate.

The lady friend had the BEAT sandwich consisting of bacon, fried egg, avocado, tomato, swiss cheese on toasted bread. I had to sneak a bite of course and it was very well put together. She concurred which surprised me a bit. Service was friendly and above average.

A great spot for brunch to kick back and relax. Catch a Sunday football game or just chat it up. So if you find yourself on the North side check-in at 42 degrees for some affordable eats.

After waking up on a cold Sunday morning my fella and I were trying to decide where we wanted to eat. We were both being indecisive (as is usual) about what we wanted to eat. All we knew was that we were hungry. I wanted french fries (who am I kidding...I always do) and he wanted anything but french fries.

Now I have been to Latitude (as I call it) many times on Thursday nights when they offer their martinis for $5. This is usually not a good thing for me because even at the wise old age of 29 I have not figured out my limits when it comes to gin. So I usually don't remember a lot about my time here and sometimes don't make it to work the next day. But it is right down the street from my house, I was hungry, I was lazy and I was persuasive enough to get him to go to brunch here.

The brunch menu isn't large and it seems pretty basic, but this is usually what I like in a breakfast/brunch spot. I feel best when I have eggs, toast, and potatoes. Which is what I had this day. And they were just what I needed. The potatoes had just enough rosemary on them and were just crunchy enough. The toast was possibly the best toast I have ever had and was the thing that morning. Fella's skillet was great and full of spinach. The coffee was hot and the soda (I am weird like that) was full of carbonation.

Also...they have ebelskivers. Next time this is what I will be having....

    Ahem, $5 martinis (FULL-size) on Thursday nights...holla!

What else do you need to know!? Make it a date, a girls night, whatever...$5 a pop for some good tastin' cocktails is a steal. The food isn't bad, and the service was definitely above average and friendly.

I suggest the peach cosmo, because I'm girly like that, and don't judge me! Not strong tasting, but packed a punch. Dare I say it rivals a Lefko martini...at 1/4 of the price!? yes. I do dare. I said it.  42NL splashed summer nights into a big girl glass, and made me pretend I had a bit of money to spend on Thursday night martinis.

    good deal :)

Latitudes is that nourishing, healthy, more stable relationship that you couldn't have dreamed was possible when you were still with that jerk  - we'll call him The Brownstone.  The guy who wouldn't call you, spilt beer on your clothes, and left his dirty underwear on the floor.

Out with the old, in with the new!

My boyfriend and I LOVE this bar/restaurant.  It's now our official neighborhood 'Cheers'.  They have the same drink specials found in most places, but the food is far superior to 'bar food'.  It is my favorite spot to watch a game.  Rather than standing in a loud, cramped and smokey bar where you can barely hear the person next to you, much less the game and you walk out reeking of PBR and Marlboro's, come to Latitudes...sit in their smoke-free dining room that is lined with plasma TVs.  Stretch out and enjoy the game and a great meal in style.

They have a diverse assortment of beer - bottled and on tap.  The staff is friendly and laid back - and aside from the dining room,  there is a bar area where you can light up - if you choose -  and still see the game.

This bar is our Cheers - our spot to relax with a stout and fried calamari and watch our Bears play.

$10 for a glass of Prosecco in this economy? Kiss my ass. You can buy a bottle for that. Did you notice I only had one glass? At $7 a glass, I might have had two, and the profit would not be materially different.

I don't understand the way some people think. If I owned a place that depends completely upon discretionary income, I would do everything I could to ensure that my prices have a reasonable relationship to THE TIMES.

It's a decent place to meet a friend, as I did last night. The waiter was a total gentleman. The decor is unremarkable and the ambience is pleasant enough.

But my breakfast sucked here last time I was here. I don't think I'll return.
There are too many other much classier places with more value to offer. These days, if there is nothing remarkable about the product and price, I'm not going back.

    Oh, the food!

We started with the Buffalo Mac and Cheese.  Um... genius!  Who doesn't love mac & cheese?  What doesn't taste better with buffalo sauce?  Why wasn't this dish introduced to my life sooner?

For my entree, I had the Duck Quesadillas.  These came strongly recommended by our server - so strongly that I went with them despite not really being a fan of duck.  After the first bite I could tell that perhaps the real problem with my duck-dislike was that I just hadn't had duck prepared like this before.  Warm duck, melted cheese, and tart cherries were the dominant flavors.  There wasn't a trace of the oiliness I've come to associate with duck.

Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals.  I stole some fries off my boyfriend's plate, and if everything was as tasty as that fry, I can see why.

Complementing the food was a very respectable beer list.  While they were out of a few of my selections as they change their stocks from "Winter" to "Spring", I was still able to find some favorites, new and old.

My wife and I have visited this bar off and on for 5 years with no problems. Saturday night we had a couple drinks, upon returning the check for me to sign, the server did not include the credit card.
We told him, he went and looked, came back empty handed.
    Could you look again please?
Comes back with the bartender, bartender says they don't have the card, if we don't like it to call the cops.
We call the cops, and call bank to cancel the card.
Cops arrive and ask if they have my credit card, they answer no. Nothing we can do they say.
After the cops leave they take us outside, argue with us for a min, bartender crabs my coat collar and pushes me against the wall, server gives my wife the now cancelled card.
They tell us to leave and never come back.

How incompetent do you have to be?

I have tried, tried, and tried to like Latitude, but finally I must give up on this place.  Aside from the usually solid beer list, this place has very little to offer.  After three visits since the menu was most recently redesigned, I am yet to find anything with the exception of the flatbread given above a passing grade from our table.  Poor ratings have been given to the Amish Chicken, Ahi Tuna Sandwich, Pulled Pork Sandwich, and the Mussels.  Passing grades for the current bratwurst offering and the Oyster Po' Boy.  The wine (passable selections) is typically lukewarm, and the sangria is sub-par.

The last straw with Latitude came because of the service.  The waiter, while nice and helpful when around, was inattentive and slow.  There was one superb busboy, but the other busboy plopped our appetizer on the table and ignored our request for plates and utensils.

There are far too many choices in Lincoln Square to put up with sub-par food and poor service.

Although the Friday before consisted of large amounts of Wine and Wii, I found myself having a "Lincoln Square Day" a few Saturdays ago.  Ah, the glory of a FREEZING COLD spring in a not-so-frequented Chicago hood.  Precious.  Where did I go first ?  Why, 42 Degrees N Latitude is the answer.  I was impressed by the online menu and many Yelp reviews so I couldn't NOT go.

Per usual, I missed brunch (it is so hard for Kristin C. to make it to a pre- 3p.m. meal on the weekends)  However, bloody marys do not care what time it is so I ordered one right away.  Although the body of the bloody was not too impressive, the garnish won me over - pickles, cheese, roni - not your usual celery stick  and olive here!

The menu was definitely a jump up from normal bar fare  - everything had it's own twist.  I started with a cup of the butternut squash soup which was delicious, but heavy.  For my meal I had the quesadillas with pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese and pickles.  It SOUNDED delicious but somehow came out bland.  The pickles were definitely the highlight but I don't think I would order it again.

The decor is sleek, service is timed correctly and the windows in the front make for prime Lincoln Avenue people-watching. I think I will come back here for brunch (or maybe I will eat here again after I get my Kyoto Lime martini on at Tank!  Wow, do i have good ideas!) - it is a solid addition to Lincoln Square

Now keep in mind, we went here early on a Friday night (about 5:30ish or so).  The place was empty aside from two separate people eating dinner with a beer at the bar.  We were the only ones at a table, though while we ate, a few other groups of folks came in too.  Otherwise, the place was pretty dead.  Even when dead, service was slow, which wasn't exactly too welcoming. The tvs were on with sports (pre-NCAA games) but they weren't blasting the volume.  Instead, there was some old tracks of random music from the 90s playing.  It was playing loud enough to hear it but soft enough to talk to the person next to you.

We ordered the pita dip appetizer, which I must say came out as a rather artistic dish complete with tomatoes and cucumbers above the triangles of pita.  There were three different dips and the hummus one was our favorite.  The pita bread was actually really tasty but I'm the type of person that prefers warm dips instead of room temperature ones so this appetizer was good but could've been better.  What was really tasty, though, was their fries.  They look like normal fries, cut from potatoes and without any special seasoning.  However, they are cooked to perfection.  Not too soggy, not too dry.  They were french fried perfection!

Also, be forewarned: while their martinis on the menu are good and rather potent, they're a bit on the pricey side at 10 bucks each. So if you get one or two with your dinner, the bill quickly adds up.   That said, I do suggest trying to hit this place up Mon-Thur, when they have specials each of those days.  Keep in mind service is spotty even when this place is dead.

Immediately after sitting down, I wondered if we'd made a mistake due to the intrusively loud TVs and the blinding pendant light above our table, dangling just inches from our faces. Had I only trusted that initial impression...

Our server was cordial and offered useful information when we inquired about a couple of ales, but we had a lengthy wait ahead once we ordered. Our drinks took over 10 minutes to arrive, then the food took at least another 20 minutes to appear. In retrospect, I wish it'd lingered in the kitchen longer, forever even.

When our plates were set down, it was obvious that presentation isn't a priority. While not a mortal sin, the ugly plating was indicative of the lack of care evident at every step of our visit. Indeed, once I tasted my red snapper, which was curled up from being warmed for too long, the lack of freshness was clear in every rubbery bite. Moving on, two kinds of greens lay beneath the fish. One was overcooked, chewy and overwhelmingly salty, while the other was bitter and oily. Worst of all was the bizarre cold stuffing that consisted of cubed carrot, some dried herbs, and croutons drowned in vinegar. After two bites, I decided it was literally not edible. It was more like something that might be served in a prison. Or POW camp. One that doesn't honor the Geneva convention. Altogether, this was the worst plate of food I've been served in recent memory. Less expensive restaurants have prepared far better, more carefully conceived and executed food. For that matter, it isn't an exaggeration to say that I've enjoyed frozen Trader Joe's meals much more than the food at 42 Degrees North. My wife had slightly better luck with her beef at least, although the two bites she shared with me were slightly dry and, like my fish, not terribly fresh.

In the past, I've given many businesses a second chance after an unpleasant initial experience (-Looks across Welles Park at Apart...-). In this case, I sent an email to management to express my displeasure but have not received a reply. Clearly this is a business that doesn't deserve another shot.

While it's disappointing to find a local restaurant that fails so spectacularly, I can appreciate the many neighborhood establishments who do a good job even more now. Sorry, that's the best I can do as far as a positive take-away from a bad experience.

Alright, fourth time appeared to be the charm...I might consider this spot more regularly after my visit last night.

Great specials...$5 martinis on Thursday nights.  Any martini.  Any liquor.  They have a few on the menu, but if you have something in mind, they will whip it up for you.  For $5.  Hooray!

As my friend says, "The rule for martinis is this: they're like boobs, one is not enough and three is too many."

Therefore, I enjoyed two: pomegranate (tasty, but too sweet after the first two sips) and the peach cosmo, which was refreshing and delish.  Two was plenty, I was a-giggling, and feeling fantastic.

A cup of the tomato bisque (so good) and a house salad later, and I was happy as a girl who just discovered a fabulous shoe sale.

Friendly service (our server was just a sweetheart) and good atmosphere.  Go.  Drink.  Be merry.  (Especially on Thursday, you can get reeeeal merry for cheap.)

Good food, great service, excellent beer selection.

So why just three stars?  Unfortunately, I had to subtract a star for sanitation problems.

We arrived early evening on a Thursday and played musical chairs in the bar room until we found just the right spot.  The high table by the open window was too cold, and the family of four that filed in behind us drove us further into the den.  The host/waiter was very obliging as we puddle jumped across the room.

The beer selection is absolutely top-notch, with several microbrews available by draft, bottle and can.  Sandwiches and entrees alike come with beer pairing selections.  Our waiter was extremely helpful, cautioning my girlfriend that the recommended pairing for her steak salad was not so sweet as the accompanying description suggested.  She got a cider instead.

My veggie burger was easily the best I've had in Chicago.  Kudos 42 N. on that account.

Now, the grim part of the review, on two counts:  First - and I know this is difficult to control sometimes, but . . . fruit flies are gross.  Especially when they're drifting lazily around the rim of my pint glass.  Second - and this is a call for immediate adjustment . . . your kitchen staff need hair nets.

The "problem" was discovered halfway through the meal and our waiter was alerted.  He apologized and took the dish off the check.  I appreciated that, and one long black hair in a salad won't deter me from giving a restaurant a second chance.

We had been riding high until this little problem presented itself, and it was a shame to have anything detract from an otherwise excellent experience.  I hasten to repeat that the server was very knowledgeable, obliging, and deferential.  Based on that and the quality of the untainted food, we will return.

I haven't had the food there, but I have had two martinis and beers on two different nights.

I ordered the same drink on both nights: Bombay Sapphire martini, dry.

Martini 1: perfect. The only weird thing was the bartender asked me if I wanted it on the rocks (supposedly, martinis were originally served on the rocks). The olives were huge and tasty.

Martini 2 (different bartender, I should note): Disgusting. Far too much vermouth, and I'm not one of those snobs who thinks that the vermouth bottle should merely be waved around the glass. This tasted sour and oily.

If that weren't bad enough, the glass was FILTHY. I could see lip prints of several previous customers around the rim and bits of crap stuck to it. The olives tasted bad, too, but that may have been all the vermouth coating the inside of my mouth.

If you're going to advertise martinis on your sign, every single one of your bartenders should be experts at preparing them.

We went here last night to grab a few beers and watch the game. We were seated in the front since we weren't eating, which was fine, but it definitely got cold after awhile.

They have a great selection of beers on tap and the menu looked great, but we only ended up getting the artisan cheese place (which was DEFINITELY lacking in the cheese department) and the pumpkin gnocchi as some appetizers. The gnocchi was great which leads me to think their main dishes would be just as good.

I would love to go back when it's warmer to enjoy their full menu.

I was with a really indecisive group of people, wandering through Lincoln Square on a Saturday night when we happened upon this quaint little bar. It was dark in a really good way...lots of candles, dim lighting, very good. The bar was not very crowded, and we found the staff to be quite welcoming.

We ordered the wings and the fruit/cheese/meat platter. They were both quite large and very good. Check out the buy 2 get one free appetizer special.

Really, really fantastic for outdoor eating in the crisp new nights of fall!
My boyfriend really enjoyed the crabcakes, I had the biggest slice of chocolate cake I will ever see in my life (seriously, it is not possible for a human being to eat the whole slice- it's bigger around- and i'm certain went directly to- my hips! Take THAT Shakira!)
Indulgent, Delicious, can't wait to go back for weekend brunch!
And bonus points for another outdoor eatery that treats our dog like the Princess she is!

Great Martini selection and Thursday nights are $5 martini nights, you just can't beat it!

I would suggest their namesake martini.  I have no idea what they put into it, but it was good, very good actually.

As for food a food selection I would highly recommend their Crispy Crab Cake with Tomato, Avocado, Bacon and Chipotle Aioli on Wheat Toast with Fries.

They were promt with their service and very friendly.  Would I go back again?

    Absolutely.

Lincoln Square has its ups and downs and plenty of brunch spots to choose from. You know you've reached Lincoln Square when the parade of baby strollers and dogs start marching down the street. Parking in Lincoln Square is tight but not overly obnoxious since the side streets haven't all converted to permit parking (just yet).

42 Degrees North Latitude was pretty packed for an idle Sunday and we grabbed one of the last booths remaining while the Blackhawks game showed overhead. The back of the bar had smaller TVs, but I could still squint to read the score from there. Menus, drinks were brought out quickly and our server was very quick for the refills. Looking over the skillet I was pleased to find skillets and there was enough breakfast food for everybody to pick what they liked.

I ordered a 42 Degree North skillet which featured tomato, olive, bacon, mozzarella, ham, roasted peppers, eggs and toast. Eggs usually came scrambled but I asked if they could make them poached and it was no problem! Hooray for poached eggs! While they did overcook the poached eggs into a sort of soft boil I didn't mind since I didn't feel like eating scrambled eggs. My other friends had a skillet and pancakes too.

Overall the skillets were good and were a bit on the healthier side with all of the veggies stacked in. Next time I will try to get my skillet more well done and perhaps with extra cheese to give it some additional unhealthiness. I am a big fan of skillets and prefer them extra laced up with butter, grease, and meats. The ingredients were very good and the food is ideal for people watching their calories. My friend's pancake stack looked very small but they said it was very flavorful. I would say I liked 42 Degrees North Latitude and would recommend this restaurant / bar for more health conscious eaters.

Lattitude has a great veggie burger, which they make themselves. I have several non-vegetarian friends who also share my love of their veggie burger. I have eaten there a few times this past summer and fall and just went again this past weekend. In the summer there is a little outdoor eating area, which like a broken record, I have to stress is key in my summer restaurant choices.
I always get the burger since the rest of their fare tends to have meat, but all of my dining companions have enjoyed their meatier meals.
They don't skimp on the booze in mixed drinks and have an extensive beer list.
The waitstaff is a little hit or miss but always super friendly. I always appreciate their friendliness but have been perplexed by the occasional forgotten drink orders.
Overall a great place to relax with friends and have some top notch food.

The veggie burger is fantastic... yet expensive.

Sadly that is pretty much the only veg option you will find.

BUT they have booze, so you should do fine.

During the week they have specials, Tuesday is the best with 1/2 price bottles of wine.

I simply can't love this establishment more. The fella & I have been here on numerous occasions & are always happy w/the outcome. In fact, the last trip here, the other night was even more satisfying as 42 is now expanding their bar area and updating the menu.  Another room hosts an array of tables in a larger dining room.

The interior is set with warm woods & candle light for an all around intimate setting (although there are a few flat screens in the bar to stay up on your scores). The beer list is eclectic, the food leans more towards gastro-pub quality & the service is attentive. The full menu is available until about 11PM, which we found out in search of a quality meal late on Sat. night. I highly recommend the seared tuna & the mushroom ravioli entrees.

There are some tricks to enjoying Latitude.

    1) Don't go when it's crowded, like 11p on a Friday night. Go when it's empty -- so, like, any other time.

    2) Sit at the bar. Most bartenders at Latitude are RIDICULOUSLY friendly. As are the folks who sit at the bar. If you're having a bad day, and want to feel better, there's a good chance you'll be nursed to health by a Latitude bartender.

    Also to note:
-Weekend brunch is good and at this point, EMPTY. Try the mediterranean skillet. If J Meinl's is crowded, here's a quick bet.

-Monday nite you can get a full slab of ribs for $10.95, half slab for $6.95.

My buddy treated us to lunch on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 PM after helping him move into his new nearby apt all morning during a pseudo May-shower. We were all pretty whipped and very hungry/thirsty after a day of heavy hauling. The bar was nearly empty and our server was extremely nice and attentive, joking with us how we didnt look that tired and that we didnt deserve this much for the move clearly (sarcastically, bonus). I knew I would like this place by the tap selection of amazing award winning rare beers. My two absolute drop dead knockouts that were actually ON TAP at 42 degrees north were the infamous HOPSLAM (I bow down to u oh holy hop slammeth) and a newer but VERY likable beer, Southern Tier 2X IPA. It was amazing that i was still able to taste my food with all that hopluvin.

Considering the appetite i had built up, I went with (and everyone else coincidentally) the 1/2 pound kobe beef burger with roasted garlic aioli and cherry-date chutney. Added fresh goat chese and bacon to make it a mansized meal. Ordinarily I turn my nose to an oversized, overpriced (pretend Kobe beef), burger the size of my head, but given the correct allignment of Jupiter and Saturn in the sky, I ended up devouring the entire thing with french fries. I can imagine this place getting busy later in the night and not being quite so accessible, but we came at the right time to enjoy the bar nearly to ourselves for two hours (on a Saturday afternoon!). 42 degrees is definitely a 4-star for food and 5-star for beer, but given that I just read it is dog friendly from Kristin R., Id like to offer two more stars if it were socially acceptable. As it is, 5-stars will do fine for me when Im looking for a quality burger and beer but dont want to wait for 3-hours at Kuma's while my Saturday afternoon withers away.
