Heading to good ol' 404 is NEVER a bad idea. Awesome bartenders! (and i mean awesome), Cheap drinks, and the best atmosphere i can ask for in a bar, nice mix of cozy and divey. You never know what'll happen here!

now if they would only keep doing punk shows, you wouldn't be able to keep me away from there.

Try a bloody mary, these guys make some of the best in town! Ask for it extra spicy!

I recently came here on a Wednesday night just before skipping town. While the joint was dead it was cozy and fun none the less. I had the special: $5 for a beer (Rolling Rock in a can) and a shot (well Whiskey). I was surprised at how smooth the shot went down!

On occasion, I'll stop in here for an "I'm too drunk to stay out much longer, but not drunk enough to go home yet" beer. The bartenders are always nice and attentive - even late at night.

I think the dive bar feel of this place is spot on for Broadway. While they do serve food I have not tried any...I don't know if I'll ever be that drunk :-) However, the option to munch while on a drinking binge is always nice.

Next time someone suggests the 404 Club I doubt I would say no.

I do enjoy me a good dive bar and this one definitely hits the spot!!!  I have been here a handful of various times of the weekend and was delighted with each venture out.  It typically is a perfect end of the night stop for a nice walk back to Capitol Hill from a Broadway bar crawl.

I have never eaten here nor do I think I would try now that I read the reviews, but overall the divey charm of this establishment, the cool clientele and the cheap prices will keep me coming back.  I recommend anyone stopping by it should be a good time.

Saw the BFs band play here during the UMS (Underground Music Showcase) recently. The bar is cute.. Obviously set up for live music and DJs, service was nice but the bartender had a very light hand when it came to the pouring of a cocktail. Cocktails are cheap though.. I would be bummed had it of been a $10 vodka/soda. Yielding hipsters. Many of them.. Great for seeing live music though and with enough room for some dancing.

It makes me very sad to say that I really can't recommend the 404 anymore.  No one loved it more than I for many years.  Funky, divey, decent food, "interesting" staff - a Denver tradition.  But, I have to say on my last two visits within the last couple of months they appear to be teetering on the brink.

Both times there were zero diners at prime dining hours in the evening and very few people at the bar.  Saturday we went in about 8:45 pm hoping to soak up some happy hour booze and maybe have one last drink before heading for the barn.  The kitchen was already closed and the lights were off in the dining room.  The only people sitting at the bar were staffers.  Call me pessimistic but if you close your kitchen earlier than your posted hours and have no bar customers pretty early on a Saturday - you are probably not long for this world.

Makes me sad but seems like things have been going steadily downhill since their long time cook, who could really crank out some comfort/diner food) died.  Jerry and his charming wife are getting on up there and no one on staff seems to be breathing any life into the place.  I'm retiring it from my rotation.

This sixty year old edifice is an ode to the blue collar's local joint.  Tis frayed, dark, cluttered and perfectly average. Like a perfect pair of old shoes matched with decade old broken in jeans, this is your grand'dads bar:

    + bitter retired plumber, check.
+ trendy older mixed couple, yesshir
+ buffet on the pool table, of course
+ Slutty bar fly, just one in the afternoon

My 78 year old waitress was wonderful. People greeted me with warm "hellos" as if they should know me. The tan vinyl booths with hokey "chuck wagon" style mill work trim was terrifyingly awesome. The steak fries were sparse but good, the thick hand formed burger was excellent.

This joint never got all fancy like its other neighbors in SoBo and deserves your support. GO!

"Did you know these used to be white?" the bartender asked us. We all looked up at the deep red, quilted, naugahide bumpers over the bar and made various comments of disbelief. "Really," he promised us, "this color is from all the years of smoking in here." And he peeled back a small corner of the vinyl to show us the pale cream color beneath the fold. Ewwwww...

There's never been a more convincing argument for smoke-free bars. And now that they ARE smoke-free, dive bars are more inviting than ever! You can practically see the history dripping off the walls (and smoke-stained ceilings) and the characters creeping out of the woodwork at the 404 Club, and that's the way it should be. We bypassed the school-cafeteria-looking food, which was probably a good thing. I hear that it's hardcore, old-school, rib-sticking comfort food... and if you're into that sort of grub you might want to give it a shot. Me, I was just there for the beer and the history. Oh, and the toothless, withered, old skeezer wearing the camouflage micro-miniskirt and Tweety Bird tee. "Ain't I Tweet?" that tee asked us. Oh honey, you SO are.

It's hard for me to give this place a one star after reading the other reviews about it being family run, fun, blah blah...  They say this place is an institution.  When I hear the word institution the only way I can use it in regard to this place is bad institutional food.

I ended up at this place today for lunch and spent $11 on the brisket special which consisted of (no exaggeration): tepid grey slices of fat with a few specks of meat, mashed potatoes with packaged gravy, WAY over cooked canned peas,  some sort of briny, tasteless "au jus" garnished with the littlest tiny bit of slightly brown shredded lettuce topped with a ghostly tomato slice.

The whole meal was totally reminiscent of hospital food.

We need little dives like 404 Club in the world so go for the beer and comedy but eat somewhere else.

What can I say?  This place is definitely one of a kind...Jared and I stopped here on the way home from dinner on Saturday night because we were the two stupid people that decided to walk to and from dinner when it was 20 degrees outside and we needed a drink to warm us up after 4 blocks.  We immediately noticed the random mixture of people at this bar and then quickly realized that we were the only two people in there that weren't "locals."  We ordered our drinks and began to people watch.  As I watched this 70 year old woman in red fish nets, a black leather mini-skirt, and black knee high boots light up her cigarette, cuss, and then quickly put it out because she suddenly remembered that smoking isn't allowed indoors, I knew instantly that I liked that bar.

Besides, they have live music and the people there are super friendly.

So the place is totally gross inside, and a dive... so it makes me feel right at home. I've only drank here, till last thursday.
Me and friend shared, the buffalo stew and it was really really good.
I'd give them an extra star, but I got a really gross spoon, as in food still on it. The server was nice, and took it back and made a light hearted joke. I tipped her well because she was charming, and I came there just to drink and ended up having a belly full of warm stew, tequila and a high life... it really was a good start to the night.

    A Mile High Institution!

I'm a big fan of the 404 and have been for many years.  I actually preferred it before the remodel, but understand they needed to make room for more customers and a patio for smokers. I'm just partial to dark and din-gee.

I have friends that getting a T-bone with at the 404 is a tradition.  It's usually $10 for a steak dinner.  It's not Ruth Chris Steak House. It's a dive bar that has roadhouse quality food.  Know what you're looking for.  I think some of these bad reviews are because people expected something this place isn't.

They used to have a steak club punch card, but I'm not sure if they still do that.  Still, the prices are VERY low. The quality is mediocre.  Except for the drinks. They're tough and cheap, like me.

When you go to the 404, you do so for the atmosphere of a 60 year neighborhood bar.  You go for cheap booze and interesting characters to interact with.  The fact that they serve good meals is just a bonus.

In 2001, I spent a lot of time swilling cheap bourbon at the 404, and had a blast doing so.  I actually met some great women there that year too, but that's another story.  Other than occasional steaks for lunch or dinner with friends, I haven't been back but a handful of times since.

Last night I decided to swing in for a drink.  The bartender remembered me. I engaged in an interesting conversation about creative property rights with an older couple who loaded the juke with Ramones songs.  I had a delicious and inexpensive bourbon cocktail.  (2 actually, the couple bought me a second)  It was nothing short of great.

Thank you Jerry and the 404.  Glad to know you're always there.

The days of this being a great steakhouse have seemingly gone.  I used to be a huge fan, but over the years the cuts have gotten cheaper, the grade gone down, and the sides and toppings have almost vanished. I know how hard it is trying to run an establishment in this economy, with purveyors gouging more and more, taxes and a failing economy.  It is just unfortunate to see Jerry's place looking like Duffy's Shamrock did before they succumbed to the inevitability of different dining habits. The bar is still seemingly strong, and I am glad to see the expansion has brought new faces.  I wish the kitchen the best of luck, as it will be Mickey's Top Sirloin getting my next "cheap steak dinner" dollar..

I love Club 404! It is a dive and that is its main charm! The food is great and the service is what you expect for a dive joint on Broadway. It adds to the experience. I celebrated my birthday at 404. The owner came by to thank me for celebrating such a special event there. She was very charming. I highly recommend this place for dinner and drinks with friends or even a date. If you are seeking five star service and a polished atmosphere, Club 404 may not be for you.

A nice friendly little dive with a really great staff. Drinks are cheap, plentiful and the staff is attentive. The jukebox is a little weak but hey, who cares. A great place to go and hang if you're interested in drinking and talking to random people. The food is good and reasonably priced. I recommend this bar. Who knew!?

Jerry Feld and his adorable wife have run this cute little restaurant at 4th Ave and Broadway for 55 years; and it's no wonder they've lasted so long.  Great food.  Fun service.  Jodi and Nonny make the place so much fun.  Jeff, Jerry's son, is a great cook, as are his cohorts who work in the back with him.  Hurrah for the family owned business!  If you've never had the opportunity to try it, now is a great time.  With a newly remodelled dining room and big screen television, it's perfect for those who want to sit back, have a good steak and watch the game.

Oh Club 404....how I love you. This is a dive, but the best damn dive you'll ever go to. History is all over this place (it's been here longer than your parents have been alive) and it is an absolute fixture in the Denver Bar scene. I'm talking cheap, stiff drinks served with a minimum of fuss. Don't come here looking for a strawberry Mojito or some foo-foo crap, take your ass to Lodo for that junk. The food is very old-school 50's diner, but filling and good. Try the daily specials, I once had the best corned beef sandwich of my life here. The regulars have been coming here for decades and they all have fascinating stories to tell- if you want authentic atmosphere, this is the place to go. The jukebox plays exclusively stuff from the 60's and early 70's to complete the time-warp atmosphere. The waitresses are unfailingly polite and will call you "hon," I love that. I guess they have Comedy Nights here now, never been here for that but I'm sure it's fun. This is the place to take your Grandma, your friends, your neighbors. 404 is a  jewel in the crown of Denver nightlife.

I enjoy sitting on the patio at the 404 in the summer on the rare Thursday evenings that my husband and I remember to meet up with a vintage motorcycle club that calls this place home. The people watching is tough to beat but the smiling faces and friendly attitudes are what have made us return. We've tried a few deliciously bad fried items on the menu and I will probably get the cheese sticks every time I come back. You'll find all of the dive bar/down home foods here like chicken fried steak, burgers, sandwiches and chili. They serve a standard margarita that hits the spot and some good draft beers, but they won't serve you without an ID, something we learned on our first visit, now matter how much you beg! Our waitress was too funny and nice to hold it against her. I've sat at the bar inside as well as at a table but I prefer the patio, especially on those nights when it's full of older men (and a few women but not many) talking shop and comparing rusted bikes. You don't have to be a regular to feel like one here, if you're willing to sit down and relax for a bit...with an open mind.

Absolutely loved this place.  Ended up here 3 days in a row with some friends from out of town.  I'll start on the second day as we ate lunch there.  I got a slopper which was pretty good, first place I've seen one in Denver, wasn't bad but Pueblo is the place to get excellent sloppers.  Some other stuff on the menu looked pretty good, they had a whole mexican food section.  Came out to be $20 for me and my pals lunch which wasn't bad at all.  The other two days we came to drink which is really the time to go there.  Great jukebox (Ramones, Motorhead, Johhny Cash, punk and old stuff) although the bartender said they are gonna do an overhaul on it, so hopefully it won't change style too much.  Also, one of the best things about the 404, free billiards! Awesome, drink some beer and shoot the shit with free pool.  They also threw on a godzilla movie on the bigscreen. Nonny is a funny nice gal, which was cool to meet her if you're an Auto Club fan, the bartender also said the self titled album is there to stay which is really cool.  Great, dirty little dive bar, that I will go to again and again.
