Whoever said there is no such thing as a second chance is full of it. Thank you, 4 Suyos for the invitation back to try some pretty great Peruvian cuisine! My friends and I truly had a great time.

Overall, much better experience all around. Cozy atmosphere, great food, and can't forget the BYOB factor! I informed Erin ahead of time that I planned on coming that evening, and she and the staff were graciously ready for us with open arms. Our server was very attentive and friendly, minus a few hiccups in communication. I am so glad I got to try a variety of dishes to have a better idea of Peruvian flavors. We started off with the Papa a la Huancaina and the Palta Rellena-both were very tasty. We were accidentally served the Papa Rellena as well, and it was also delicious. I would definitely get all three again.

For my main course, I decided to go with the Jalea Mixta--definitely recommend if you love battered seafood. My partner got the classic Arroz con Mariscos or Peruvian Paella--yum! I think I liked it the best. My friend ordered the Quinoa con Tofu. I had a taste of it, and would consider getting it if I'm not in a meat mood. My other friend ordered the Champiñones Saltados because he is vegan. Unfortunately, I didn't get a taste of it, but he seemed to like it a lot, so 4 Suyos is a good option if you are vegetarian or vegan! We were too full for dessert, but since I had the Flan last time I went, I would also recommend trying it too!

Thank you again to everyone at 4 Suyos for showing us how Peruvian is done. See you all soon!

I'm really torn on this review.  I guess you can say I'm giving 3 stars because I feel bad, but instead of "a-ok" it's just "ok".  Came here for the Neighborhood Spotlight and I was stoked because not only is 4 Suyos nearby, it's nearby and Peruvian!  For me, the excitement stops there.

I ended up ordering the cause rellena for an appetizer and while it looked like there was more mayo than expected, it was actually really good.  For my main meal I went with the jalea mixta.  I should probably mention here that there were 2 large groups in the restaurant that day, both coming in at the same time, apparently.  I'm going to assume that's why it took so long for food to come out.  However, because of that wait my food was kind of cold, especially the yucca.  The yucca....not good.  I don't know why, but it was actually some of the worst I've ever had.  The other disappointment?  The green sauce.  I always forget the name of it, but I've had it from other places as well as friends who've made it and theirs was different.  It wasn't bad..it was just a disappointment.

My experience here wasn't great and I'm sure part of it had to be having 2 large groups (which is why I'm giving them 3 stars instead of 2), but I honestly think I'd go back to Ay Ay Picante before I come back here.  Oh well, you win some, you lose some.  Maybe one day I'll find a Peruvian spot to fill the void Rosa de Lima left.

I came here for April's Neighborhood Spotlight event.

Since I had that day off, I decided to check this place out.

However, I attended a family party after this place. Therefore, I skipped lunch, and that's why I went for dessert.

For dessert I had their Arroz con Leche, unlike the Mexican version, the Peruvians use extra ingredients such as shredded coconut and powdered cinnamon.

Also, I sampled their sweet purple drink (I can't remember the drinks name) I thought the drink was going to be warm and too sweet, but it was completely otherwise.

Also, I checked out a fellow yelper's Peruvian Flan (it looked just like the one that my mom makes at home).

For what its worth their food seems great, but I wouldn't come back because it's a bit overpriced and above all, its way too far from my place.

A new kid on the block in this Logan Square neighborhood, my first impression was a bit lukewarm. The moment you walk in, I agree with others and wasn't sure what to expect. The decor was pretty plain and the vibe was meh. But then after we were seated, they took good care of us which of course is always a huge PLUS.

Now on to the food.. the moment you walk in you get a basket of bread with an aji (chile) sauce. For those who can't handle spicy, you might want to only taste a smidge of this because it can overpower your palate! Super yummy though!

The delicately marinated red onions adds a nice kick to the Causa Rellena. But the inside of the Causa lacked a wow factor. The Papa Relleno was scores better. The chicken salad sandwiched between sweet potato had just the right amount of everything.

Of all our entrees, the seafood paella was hands down our favorite. From the perfectly cooked rice and seasoning all around, we wanted to leave our own dishes for this one. The lamb stew came in second. But the lamb was unevenly cooked and the stew was overall mushier than I'd like. Flavorful, yes. Least favorite was the Lomo Saltado. The beef was overcooked and chewy and the rest of it just felt disconnected with each other. Just a bunch of ingredients put onto a plate.

This IS a BYOB so that's a definite PLUS. I think what they should probably make clear that it is BYOB anything. If you want a Pisco or anything else with liquor, you have to bring the "spirit" and they'll make it for you. That was sort of a letdown.

The desserts weren't much to write home about. We had the biscuit with dulce de leche which just tasted like a cookie sandwiched with a slice of dulce de leche. Meh.

All around, I'd come back for the seafood paella again and again and the attentive service.

So, I used to live in Uruguay, and have spent a decent amount of time in Latin America, including a couple of weeks in Peru.  When I discovered that there was a Peruvian restaurant in walking distance from my new apartment, I had to go check it out with a friend.

We were the only diners there, which was a little off-putting, but holy crap, the food.  I felt like I was back in Peru; excellent papas a la Huancaina, some great ceviche mixto, really good aji de gallina.  They even have Inka Cola to wash it all down.  Our server was friendly; my only complaint is that, for the portion size and rather bare bones space, things feel a touch overpriced...knock everything on the menu down a couple of bucks, and this would be a 5 star review.

As a teenager, my family used to love going out for Peruvian cuisine. It is one of my favorite memories. Sadly, our go-to restaurant closed and all the others we tried just weren't up to par.

I'm very happy that 4 Suyos opened up.

Went in for Sunday dinner with my mom and her fiancee. The food was awesome.

Us guys went with the Lomo Saltado, which is possibly the safest entree on the menu. Steak, potato wedges, onion, tomato, over a bed of rice. It was so full of flavor. The portion size was just right. Not too small and not overbearing. And a very nice presentation.
The lady had the Quinoa Con Tofu which was also very delicious. The tofu was very well marinated as were the green peppers. Very good. I'll most likely get that plate next time I come in. It's a great plate for vegetarians.

Had flan for dessert, which I didn't love. But that's okay.

An overall excellent experience. You must try it.

The month of April is full of so many celebrations for our family that at the end of March I set up all the parties, get togethers and reservations.  Our anniversary is one of the happy occasions and we like to have a reservation downtown at a restaurant that is new for us, gets good reviews and will seat us in the middle of a Saturday afternoon.  I went to Open Table and put in for a 2:00 reservation and checked all the possibilities against reviews on Yelp.  4 Suyos fit every single one of our parameters.  ¡Arriba Perú!

I liked the restaurant when we walked in, yes, it is a bit dorm room decorated but it felt like we were in Peru.  The waitress was darling and let me speak Spanish to her so I was smitten from the start.  I asked her about the meaning of the name and followed up with some research online so I liked that it was the Spanish translation of the original Inca name for their empire.  See, it's educational and delicious to come here!

We wanted to order the tamal but we were there too early so we settled on an Entrada, a salad and a ceviche which was way too much but all so tasty.  The Chorros a la chalaca were like a mussels ceviche and very good.  The quinoa salad was yummy but my favorite was the Ceviche Mixto with two shots of Tiger Milk.  Some heat and lots of citrus, delicioso.  I also had a Chicha Morada for my very first time and it was so good but I did ask for ice.  (Probs a no no but I do love ice.)

The star of the meal were the platos principales.  I closed my eyes and ordered my favorite food in life, paella, listed as Arroz con Mariscos or Peruvian Paella.  It was stupendous, I was deliriously happy with it.  I have almost quit ordering it at restaurants because so often it is just wrong but this was exactly right - rice, saffron, red peppers and tons of seafood.

We will definitely be back - there were too many other dishes that sounded great and that we NEED to try.

4 Suyos - I want to be one of those suyos, make it cinco!

    AMAZING!!!
    WOW.
I do have to say when I walked in I started to get concerned, because the decor is....meh...nothing to write home about.
We were seated at a table, for two, they table sizes are small....I was a little annoyed that there were plenty of tables available and we were seated at the smallest table there.
    BESIDES THAT....
    We stopped in 4/7
Our server was sweet and down to earth,
We asked if we could take one of the entrees, split it in half and make it an appetizer and they totally accommodated us!

We went with Jalea Mixta deep fried mixture of octopus, scallops, squid, mussels, shrimp, and tilapia served with salsa criolla and yucca.
It was the star of the show...it's amazing! I woke up the next day and all I could think was....when will I have that again.

The wife and I opted for the special which was on the back of the menu, Filet with yuca. It definitely should join the menu because it was delicious and sliced like butter. The only catch was My gfs steak was cooked well done....and she wanted medium. Not a huge deal. We can't wait to go back. I hope they still have the filet!

    And this place is BYOB!

Dear Lord in heaven, when I die, can we please spend our eternity together in 4 Suyos?

Yeah, this place is the bomb. I've had some killer Peruvian in Rogers Park and 4 Suyos is better. I would absolutely, every time, drive the 20 to 30 minutes out of my way to Logan Square just to eat here instead.

It's hard to remember what all was ordered, it was a few months ago, but not a morsel of food was left unclaimed, not a complaint to be had. Merriment and frivolity abound, the food tantalized and seduced. I'm going to start writing poetry about this food. Seriously.

I would like to point out the plating here is very impressive. They make the food look very upscale, at Taste of Peru in Rogers Park, its just slop on rice on a plate & that's not a big deal because it tastes good, but 4 Suyos tastes better AND they plate the food really beautifully.

I had the aji de gallina - creamy chicken with eggs and nuts and olives or something? I mean so good. SO good. I think my boyfriend had the lomo saltado, you can never go wrong with strips of meat and fries mixed with meat juices. Our companions had the ceviche de pescado (not a crumb of this remained, she even drank the leche de tigre left on the plate as is tradition)  and our other friend had I believe either the jalea mixta or the arroz con mariscos. Take a look at the restaurant's menu to get a better understanding of what all is in these dishes, they are all so delicious.

A side of their pickled onions is a must to sprinkle over all your entrees. Whatever that green stuff is they bring out at the beginning of your meal with bread is REALLY fantastic, very spicy but very flavorful. Again I will compare to Taste of Peru - their green stuff is also really yummy and very spicy but 4 Suyos tastes soooo much better. 4 Suyos has way more actual flavor & isn't just all about the spice. Thats the best of both worlds, spice and flavor, yes please.

Our friends recommended we not leave without trying a dessert, thats no problem by me. I am pretty certain I got the mazamorra morada and arroz con leche half and half in a little bowl. Thats purple corn pudding and rice pudding with coconut and raisins, respectively. They were both outstanding.

Basically get yourself over here asap, street parking is not difficult. If you have a soul and like food you will love this place.

This place is a very cute little venue in the middle of Logan Square.

    The ambiance:
Small, cute, chiq. It was quite empty when I came with Jennie T. a few days before she had her birthday dinner there! The waitress/hostess was attentive and very welcoming. She even noticed that me (this Asian-looking dude) was Peruvian by the way I ordered! Haha.

    The food:
Our orders were disappointing, but still decent (I just have high expectations of Chicago Peruvian restaurants since I grew up around many great joints in LA). I ordered a Chicha Morada to start off, and was sad to learn that it was made from the purple corn instant mixers rather than from the typical/traditional boiling method. Regardless, it was the first Chicha I've had in months, so it did its job.

I then ordered an Aji de Gallina, which was average quality in respect to all the LA restaurants I've been to (which is pretty solid). Jennie T. ordered the Lomo Saltado, which she said was way too salty (I had a french fry and a piece of lomo steak, which seemed fine). Whatever the case, I was expecting as good as Taste of Peru (which I reviewed a few months ago and got a RotD for, so check it out!), but it wasn't there.

    The service:
Like I mentioned earlier, it was great.

TL;DR. New chiq Peruvian restaurant in Chicago. Decent food. Growing pains, but will probably be really good soon.

I'm not sure what to think about this place. I came here last weekend for a Yelp Neighborhood Spotlight event. With high expectations, I ordered the special for the day, a filet mignon. The food took forever to come out. Like over an hour... For a small restaurant, a wait this long seemed kind of inconceivable. The steak was supposed to be medium rare, but what I got was a piece of meat completely cooked through. On the plus side, everyone else's food looked pretty good. Eh, I probably won't be back until they work out the flaws in the kitchen.

I really had no idea what Peruvian cuisine was before coming here, but now I do, and I'm glad I did.  Basically, Peruvian food is fusion food, being influenced by traditionally Japanese, Italian, South American and other dishes, reflecting the history of immigration in that country.

I learned that little tidbit when I came here last Friday night, which was apparently only their second day open.  Like some of the other reviewers have said, the Papa Rellena is the standout appetizer on the menu. They also do an excellent fettuccine w/ sauteed mushrooms (which is, I was informed, authentically Peruvian -who knew?).  Ceviche was also very good.

This is a friendly, comfortable spot, and a welcome break from the increasingly annoying scramble of clueless hipster foodies to be found pretty much everywhere around the corner on the Milwaukee Ave. restaurant corridor.  This place just concentrates on bringing good food, without the hype.  Definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood.  FYI: it's BYOB, and Foremost Liquors is less than 5 mins away!

I'm sitting here eating the leftovers from my dinner at 4 Suyos last night....and MAN it's just as good as I remember it to be.

Let me start off by saying that I almost NEVER order seafood at restaurants.  I have a terrible phobia of the overcooked squid and fish that come out of most kitchens, and I usually prefer to cook my own seafood than suffer the price and taste of overcooked rubber--I mean, seafood.

But tonight, I ordered the arroz con mariscos to satisfy a very overdue craving for seafood, and was I glad I did!

Now, I don't know much about paella, but I imagine it's preparation to be a bit similar to fried rice (I could be--probably am--wrong).  But one of the things you must be very careful of when making fried rice is making sure that each ingredient is perfectly cooked.  Throw it in a little too early and you'll have mushy peas or burnt onions.  Put it in too late, and you risk giving your guests food poisoning from that undercooked shrimp.

But here, the rice was perfectly cooked.  There was so much seafood that every bite had a bit of seafood.  There were a couple mussels and a clam thrown into the mix with the shells still attached--well cleaned, fresh, not fishy smelling at all.  The squid was PERFECTLY cooked--still slightly crunchy, easy to bite through, not at all rubbery!  Wowowowowwwww 4 Suyos, I am impressed.

Needless to say, I will be back.

A young but promising neighborhood restaurant.  The restaurant is cute, with very simple decor.  The wait staff is friendly, and quite interested and eager to explain the details of Peruvian cuisine to those of us who eat it infrequently.  Our party shared the mixed ceviche, which was flavorful but a bit tough (the pieces are fairly large for a ceviche), the Papa a la Huancaina, which was tasty but very small, and the Causa Rellena, which was a hit with everyone.  My wife had the Pescado a la Macho (fried tilapia), which was quite good, and I had the Seco de Cordero (lamb stew), which was flavorful but overcooked (the lamb was well done and dry).  Our dinner companions had the Champignones Saltado (vegetarian) and the Arroz con Mariscos, both of which they enjoyed.

We all agreed that we would definitely return, especially in light of the fact that the restaurant was quite cute, conveniently located, and BYOB.

We came here based on a review from the Hungry Hound and were not disappointed. We had the steak special, the churasco, the Lamb Stew and the Chicken dish. they were all outstanding. I'm usually not a yucca fan, but that was also great. We shared the Ceviche and it was one of the best ever. The bread and dipping sauce was outstanding.

Ambiance was good... warm lighting. Attentive and concerned service.

I'm new to Peruvian food, but have been looking forward to trying it for some time. The portions were on the large side. I'd consider ordering family-style in the future.

The restaurant itself was very busy for its second night open, and seemed to stay that way until just before my party left. Just the same, the staff was courteous and attentive and very interested in how we felt about the dishes, what they could do to improve, etc.

I ordered the ceviche (tilapia not mixto). This was heaven. The flavor was bright and amazing and the consistency of the fish was perfect. I'm not much of a sweet potato fan, and almost ignored it. I'm glad I didn't, because it was cooked perfectly and a great compliment to the sour of the lime. I learned that the sauce of ceviche is leche de tigre and a true Peruvian would drink the juice from the plate. After getting over my initial fear fear of social embarrassment, I tipped the plate back and drank every bit. Fantastic. Now, if only I could stop craving more ceviche.

My husband and I ended the night with a to-go order of rice pudding and flan. We had to try it before leaving, though. The rice pudding was still warm. Both were rich and substantial and stood out compared to the outsourced or store-bought varieties we've had in the past.

Outstanding. Succulent. Incredible. I heard these words around the table many times last night. As a party of 4 foodies with diverse tastes (veggie vs. carnivore, spice addict vs. mild), this was our first visit to 4 Suyos.

It's unanimous: we will be back!

Start with the service. Flawless. The waitress was attentive without being intrusive, patient and helpful; she made a point to ask for feedback to ensure that our dining experience was enjoyable.

Then there's the menu. It's a challenge to find one sufficiently diverse to accommodate the tastes of our dining party; the fact that 4 Suyos can was a major reason that we decided to check it out. Totally delicious Distinctive vegetarian salads and main dishes (the Papa A La Huancaina is an amazing veggie appetizer), plus plenty of choices to satisfy that craving for fresh fish or red meat should you be so inclined.

And the food? Words failed several of us as fork met mouth. Amazing sauces opened up new flavor experiences. Fresh ingredients.Artful preparation and presentation. Everything mingled perfectly.  Here's our four main dishes, though I'll bet that everything else here is outstanding as well:  Pescado A Lo Macho, Lomo Saltado, Champiñones Saltados, and Quinoa Con Tofu.

I'm far from a dessert junkie, but one taste of a friend's Mazamorra Morada (purple Corn Pudding), and I had to have more!  Imagine the absolute freshest fruit jam that you have ever tasted, naturally sweet with no added sweeteners. Never had anything quite like it before.

The owner also stopped by twice and chatted with us; her love of Peruvian cuisine .was evident not only in what she said, but in our general experience. We felt very much at home.

Bottom line, this is the type of memorable experience that we wished all restaurants delivered. We all can't wait to go back.

My boyfriend and I had dinner here a few weeks ago, after spotting this restaurant open, while walking to El Nandu (2 doors west).

AMBIANCE:  We were very lucky to get in before a Saturday PM "rush hour", and were seated at a table for two.  The tables for two are VERY small, maybe too small.  I would have liked another 6-12' of width, or a 4-top, but there you go.  If the rest of tables hadn't been already reserved, I'm sure we would have gotten a 4-top.  Space is clean and open.  Worried a bit about the tea light candles setting people on fire.  Didn't care to watch one of the cooks coming up from the basement every 10 minutes and traipsing through the dining area.

FOOD:  Overall pretty delicious all around, with a few tweaks would have given it 5 stars.  Our Papa Rellena was tasty, but only lukewarm.  Chicken salad (Palta Rellena) was very good.  I had the fish in a red sauce; Sudado de pescado.  It was really delicious, but, the steamed piece of fish was over-sauced, drowning. A little lighter hand would improve the presentation.  Boyfriend had Lomo Saltado.  He didn't rave, but did enjoy it.  I had a taste and found the beef maybe a little dry, but seasoned well.  In general, we found it to be great to have "cooked from scratch" fresh food, with great flavors.

SERVICE: Very good, just right attentiveness.  Maybe a bit of a lag between appetizers and main courses.

We will be back.  I hope they can fine tune some of the plate presentations, because the food tastes wonderful.
