What a wonderful place! I had never been in a pet supply store that's anywhere near as relaxing and welcoming! Not to mention that the store owners are SO knowledgeable and helpful and are just wonderful to all the pets that come into the store. They are really into holistic pet food and care (supplements, etc.) and have a great selection of those products in the store. I thought the food there would be more expensive than buying the "Wellness" food I'd been buying at the big box pet supply stores, but they introduced me to an even better food AND it was cheaper! I never would have picked that new brand without the owner's help and extensive knowledge and I've been able to see a major improvement in my cat's health in the last month that she's been eating it.
On top of being a great store for both the pet and their guardians, 4Legs is really into animal rescue in the Chicago community. I had the pleasure of being there for an entire afternoon (first time I'd ever been there) as a representative from a local shelter (they let us bring one of our animals up for adoption as well!) and was able to observe how caring and patient and welcoming the owners are with each animal who comes into the store. It was also great to watch them with their human customers. They were consistently knowledgeable and helpful and were never rushed with any shopper, no matter how many questions the customer had. Plus, they had many repeat clients come in and the staff always knew everything about their pets (whether or not the pet was with them) and always asked how the pet was doing. It was like every customer was their long time friend!
So, basically, I'm in love with this place! I now live in Evanston and I make the 45 minute drive down there to get my pets food, etc. just because I love the atmosphere there and the owners and all the great work they do for shelter animals in the community. Yay 4 Legs!
These gals are great! Friendly, knowledgeable, and I couldn't believe that they rememberd my dog months after my first visit, even without the dog there!
Great selection of products, and it's the only place we can buy our dogs' favorite treats, Salmon Paws. I've picked up some totally unique toys here, from Canine Genius rubber and plush toys to a giant bully ball for our pups to herd around. If we were into cute collars and things, I'd be in terrible danger of spending waaay too much money here -- they're seriously adorable.
Other super cool things -- 10% ZipCar discount (once they gave it to us even though we had and I-Go car), free delivery on purchases over $100, and a program for frequent buyer program for dog and cat food.
Bee (Our new pitbull puppy) came with us to this store on the lookout for a nice new collar. He was only 8 weeks old at the time, and the only collars we could find for his small neck looked like something you would put on a cat or a toy dog.
The woman who was working at the time was VERY VERY nice to our puppy. She even helped us trim his nails, and gave us a bunch of samples to try.
Bee left the store with a new collar and a new friend :) I will def bring him back.
This place is really good place for boutique items for pets, with designer bowls, leashes, clothes, etc. Their dog selection of holistic foods was quite good as well. Can't really say the same about cats. But then again, cat food selection is typically lacking with the exception of a handful of stores. So come here for dogs and have an open mind for cats.
This is one of the best pet stores I've ever visited! The ladies are super friendly and have awesome memories - they remembered me and my two dogs after being there only once before. They're extremely helpful and knowledgeable, even providing a referral for a dog walker. I live a few blocks away and walked there with my dogs in tow, so told the ladies I'd be back the next day to purchase the 20lb bag of dog food. They gave me the best surprise by offering to deliver my dog food for me!!! I'm officially saying good bye to the other pet stores/boutiques and becoming a loyal patron of 4 Legs!
The people are great in here, I like the selection of products, the people are helpful. One of the best pet stores in Chicago
The people here are SO friendly and genuinely loves animals. I've only been in 3 times and they already recognize me and my dog. The people here are very helpful and will take time to answer your questions and give suggestions. They also always have a treat for Riley.
All the products in this store are something I am comfortable feeding Riley and are not junk like those sold at big pet chain stores.
After boarding my dog at Urban Outsitters in 2006 my dog got very sick, it was horrid and he had to be put on Px food from the vet-
Instead of going to the bathroom 3x a day he was going up to 8x, it was horrible! The food he was on was going right through him and we had him on it for about a year-
I decided to try 4 Legs and see what kind of products they sold-They introduced me to new food and gave me lots of samples-The employees are so nice and they knew so much and were able to help me find a brand of food that worked-I was hesitant but they knew what they were talking about and my dog started going to the bathroom only 3x a day, back to normal-
They were more helpful to me than my vet-Always nice and they know what Jager needs which is nice-The food they sell there is very good, organic and very good for pets-
I don't really have anything to add to what everyone else has said-great service & products with reasonable prices.
My dog chews through toys like it's his job but the two I got here lasted awhile longer than usual.
Paws down, the best pet store in Chicago! The owners are friendly and very knowledgeable of their products. If they don't have a specific item in stock just ask-- they will try to order it for you. My dog knows the way the 4 Legs, her passion is the Polka Dog Bakery cupcakes. This store caters to pets that are on raw, dehydrated or other natural diets. The selection of collars and leashes is the most extensive and unique I've ever seen. I can't say enough good things about 4 Legs! Get your dog walking and check it out for yourself!
This place is pretty awesome. It was very reasonably priced for a north side boutique and the store owner or worker was so helpful and friendly! I was really happy that she gave my dog some welcome treats and let him smell around. She wasn't pushy about buying anything and she also offered a lot of helpful information about pet adoption. I would definitely go back when I want to spoil my dogs but as a poor college student I will have to buy my dog food at Costco still :(
My love affair with 4-Legs is over four years strong at this point. The shopkeepers continue to keep the store stocked with natural, good for your dog treats and dog food. When I needed to switch my dog to something without grain last year, they recommended several options without hesitation. There are many grain free treat options too. Their collar selection is fantastic. You know how some people are like, "I would never wear anything other than Prada." Well, that's not me. It's my dog. He's always telling his harem, "Yes ya'll, I did buy this hot ass collar at 4-Legs. Ya'll can get one too if you straighten up." Seriously, the collars are adorable. Lastly but definitely not least, the owners are very involved in local animal rescue organizations. They sponsor adoption events and go the extra mile to rescue animals off the street. Their commitment to animals all on its own is enough to persuade me to continue shopping here year after year.

I've been patronizing this store for a few years now. I won't go anywhere else for my dog's food or… Read more »
I don't get to 4 Legs that often, but when I do, I am always glad I shopped there for my cats. The staff is always very friendly and conversational and I can never resist petting the store cat, Zen. Zen is the most goregous Russian Blue kitty who just also happens to be FIV+.
I think their prices are totally in line for the high-quality cat foods like Wellness, Merrick, and Evo.
I think I need to shop at 4 Legs this week!
I randomly went in here the other day to look for a new dog food, and wow!!
They were super nice and friendly and rather than encourage me to buy a huge new bag of food right off the bat, they gave me a bunch of samples and told me to go home and try them out.
We talked about a bunch of other things, and I almost forgot to pay for my other purchases when it was time to leave!
I've definitely found my new pet store!
I love 4 Legs and so do my dogs. I don't get to go in here as often as I'd like, but whenever I do they always remember me and my dog. The owners are so helpful and it is obvious that they really care about dogs. They have a great variety of toys, treats, and chews and will help you find exactly what you need.
4 Legs is also a great place to get information on adopting a pet. I can feel good about supporting a local business that helps and loves dogs as much as I do.
I really like this place! I finally found a place that's convenient for me to stop at for cat food. They carry the healthier, natural food that you won't find at Petsmart of Petco. I'm not sure why people were saying the prices weren't on anything... there is a price sticker on the bag I just bought. The staff is very friendly, AND they have a parking lot!!!
Update- The Cubs own the parking lot right next to 4 Legs and you aren't supposed to park there. I guess they tow, too. But what else are you supposed to do if you have huge bags of food to carry?!
I have to write a review of these guys because I'm just so pleased with the experience we had last week.
After 2.5 days and nights of explosive puppy diarrhea and 3 days of a hamburger and rice diet, we finally determined that our dog's food (which he had been eating successfully for 2 months) had to be causing his stomach problems.
I sent my husband into 4 Legs to pick up some new food that would be easy on my pup's digestive system. The helpful staff informed him that the food's formulation had changed (unbeknownst to anyone, since the manufacturer was obviously keeping it a secret) and that's probably why my dog was so sick.
They picked out two different brands for us, and I'm happy to report that my dog is feeling much better.
I can't thank them enough for their knowledge. If we hadn't known about the change in formulation, we would've driven ourselves crazy trying to figure out what was making the dog sick.
I love this pet store! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about good foods for your animal. They have lots of high end foods, and they seem to be reasonable (on the expensive end, but the other pet stores sell them for the same price or higher). They even remember me because I was looking for good food for my newly aquired fat cat and joke with me every time I go in - it's nice when businesses remember me in that way.
They give multiple packs of samples if you're curious about a food.
Look for the big grey cat in the store. If there are dogs in the store, he'll be in his cage, but once I saw him sleeping in an empty litterbox!
Dory & Leslie are some pretty awesome petshop girls. I think their shop is one of my absolute fave neighborhood independent businesses that I love to support. My kits get to eat healthy food that they test out (thanx Zen!) and I just love to shop there - they are always friendly and even recently matched me up with an adorable kitten. Really, if you like to support independent shop owners, and need pet food / gear, they have a fantastic selection - environmentally conscious as well!
We love 4 Legs. And so does Miss Lucy - even though she has never entered the store premises, she gets lots of goodies from here. We have been in here 3 or 4 times recently hemming and hawing over what new toy to get her to stimulate her craziness... Well we have picked up a few successful items, some of her stocking stuffers (shhh don't tell) and a wool sweater. Well, the wool sweater went right back as we found out the delicate Miss Lucy is allergic to wool! I didnt have a receipt or the tags and they took it right back for a store credit.
But the thing that gets me, is every time I go into this store the owner remembers things about my dog. Even though she has never met her, she knows what we are looking for and that Lucy is allergic to certain foods. I am flabbergasted with delight every time.
While yes it may be a little pricey - its worth it, great local place that really does care about its clientele!
Quaint little boutique on the north end of Wrigleyville...a tad expensive, but good natural food selection and very knowledgeable staff. Good selection of stuff...
Also, some very cool/classy (if its possible) cat furniture, dog beds, for the stylish dog/cat owners of our metropolis.
I like this place! We've come twice now and have been pretty happy with both the products we bought. We got Jules a heavy chewer toy thats still around! and we most recently bought her a new leash. Although the leash isnt holding up as well as I would of hoped- I like the fact that its not just any ordinary leash. They also have really great doggy treats that Jules loveees.
Staff is friendly and helpful... They did not have the product I wanted, but offered suggestions where to find it .... I will be back.
My name is Ken Henry...
I work as a "Holistic Canine Specialist & present dog, "Coral Reef III" , as well as my previous Coral Reef II have shopped there countless times. I was referred to them by my sister Debby who's animal love knew no bounds.
Between the high quality of the products to the eclectic selection and excellent advice of Doree & Leslie, the co - owners, 4 Legs is a a local treasure. They are both concious of pets ongoing health & the environment as a whole. They carry both the necessary standard products as well as some off center, very creatively thought out items that will catch your eye and your pet's fancy. Always on the watch for new useful things and what they don't have they will help you to find. They try to assist you any way they can, which I find refreshing in today's world.
Located very conviently on North Clark in Lake View, they serve the community very well. The store is cute & fun to go to. They allow well behaved pets to shop at their leisure & have a fun front window which they change regularly. It's obvious that they "love" what they do. All in all were lucky to have them in our midst since they are a "find"....
4 legs, You're a gem...

The place was really great. I am only giving it three stars because I've been there only once.
I went to buy a fancy-pants brand of cat food. When I called, they were less expensive than Dog-o-holics on Southport, and I preferred having the cat rather than dog version of their food. I have ferrets, and either species food of Innova Evo is about the healthiest kibble in the country for ferrets.
I went in on a Cubs game day, and the woman remembered me from my phone call and pulled the food right out for me. I asked about toys on sale, and she showed me a basket that was 50% off, but didn't pressure me to get anything, which I loved.
I almost wish I weren't moving and could shop here again. If my ferrets eat up all the Evo before I'm gone, I will definitely be back. Such fair prices in Lakeview are hard to find!
Great, friendly service with a very knowledgable staff. Pricier than chains, but they carry brands you will never find if you go to a conventional pet food department. Dammit, my dog is worth it, isn't yours?
Great little pet store. I suppose cutesy pet stores are spreading throughout the city like a rash when it seems everyone is getting a dog, but this one has a great selection of healthy food for critters, and friendly staff who are willing to answer all sorts of odd questions, like how do you get your fat cat to eat slower (answer: put ping pong balls in their dish and make them work to get at the food so they don't wolf it down all at once!). Sometimes, if you're spending enough time there and buying stuff, they'll hook you up with some free samples too. Prices are high, but isn't your little beast worth it? ;)
Great store, very helpful. They have some great products that aren't much more expensive than the run-of-the-mill stuff but are MUCH better for your pets. I've been to several different vets in the city (for a variety of reasons) and all of them have recommended going to 4-legs, not just for their products but for their customer service as well. Anything that they don't have in stock, they'll order for you... and will even give you store credit if you happen to grab the wrong food because you were in a hurry (yeah, I've done it!) Definitely worth visiting for your furry friend's sake.
Great store with a mixture of items. They are natural and wholistic food products as wellas alternative remedies for common aliments. They staff is great and knows the product line well. They have two racks of stuff for cats! This is a great little find in Lakeview.
