I have been going here for a few years. Always friendly and helpful service. These two women are running the model for what a good local small business should be. You want something they don't have? They will order it. They are knowledgeable on the products they sell and they always have something good to eat for my dog.

This is a great pet store. I don't own a dog myself, but my sister and brother in law used to buy their dog food and treats there; I still stop by before I go to visit to get some treats. They remember my sister's dog's name, his favorite treats, and his food. They are extremely friendly and will make you feel very comfortable. They have a very good selection of food and treats that are nearly impossible to find in other stores. Please support local businesses and patronize them as much as possible.

I LOVE THIS PET STORE! They have an amazing selection of foods and they are all so reasonably priced. When you walk in, it doesn't smell like a pet store (sometimes smells of pet stores can act as a deterrent). The staff here is so friendly and they know you by your dog's name :)
I used to live around the corner from this store but recently moved. I'm disappointed with the selection of pet stores around my new neighborhood, so I will definitely take my furry friend on an adventure and make the trek to 4 Legs. -

Pork and Applesauce!? Is this the newest culinary delight in Lakeview? Nope, it's dog food. Lucky bitches!
Upgrade!
Quite possibly the most quintessential non-chain pet supply boutique in all of Chicago. A tad bit hippie (in a good way!) with super friendly staff, and incredible pet food, products and styles.
I popped in this past blustery Saturday to pick up pooch food...the woman discussed what I was looking for, and I left with a 15lb bag of Pork and Applesauce Fromm's brand dog food. Seriously, my dog eats better than I do, methinks. 4 Legs also cooperates in Fromm's Frequent Buyer program, so when you buy 12 bags...your next one is FREE. All the pork, applesauce, tilapia, lamb, gyro or whatever flavor your dog might like ;)
I was also on the brink of a NY-bound flight with my 2 cats, and found just the trick. Homeopathic "Happy Traveler" pills that helps with anxiety, etc. Again, the woman was so helpful, sweet, and gave some tips on how to calm them, etc. She even comforted me saying "It's all going to be OK." I actually needed to hear it, and though she was right in the end (they are alive and watching me write this review)...I'm here to tell you, if you can avoid flying with cats. AVOID IT.
4 Legs is Awesome x 4. Decent prices (all of my items + can of cat food for Happy Traveler consumption = $45). A wonderful neighborhood establishment that I've been popping into for years for any random thing I could think of. Of course, pets are welcome to join, and they have plenty of homemade pet treats that you're 4-legged children will certainly appreciate.
Because really, Petco and Petsmart are STINKY. Literally and figuartively. 4 Legs wins!
*easy metered parking (non-Cubs game days)
*easy free street parking on street just behind the shop (do not park in lot)
PS. Yes, I have 1 dog and 2 cats. I also have a boyfriend...shocking, right? ;)Listed in: Puppy Love Chicago

It's been a couple of months since my first visit to 4 Legs and I decided to take my pooch back for some interactive toys and bones to keep her entertained while I'm at work.
I was very impressed that the owner of 4 Legs remembered me and my dogs name. Wow! She also was genuinely interested in how things had been going since my last visit.
She gave me some great toys (even unpacked a box of toys that had just arrived in order to find something that worked!) and some great ideas for my little Peanut. Frozen dog food in a kong? Great idea! This little meat-cicle will last all morning and keep Peanut from being a destructive little terrorist. Love it!Listed in: Adventures in Puppyland

There's no denying how passionate they are about animals here. Each time I'm in they always mention a dog in need and ask if you know anyone who's currently looking to adopt.
They definitely go above and beyond at Four Legs!Listed in: Elvis approved

AMAZING! Enough said! I have probably been to the majority of pet boutiques in the city and not a single one sticks out except 4 Legs. The girls are so friendly, knowledgable, and have a true passion for animals. I love how they are involved in rescuing and support various shelters. I would never go anywhere else!! Amazing collars, leashes, jackets, dog beds and of course carry all the premium foods. This is a must go if you own a dog (or cat).
BTW it takes a lot for me to write a review. -

Just bought a bunch of christmas presents for my dog here earlier tonight. The people who work here are really friendly. I don't live in Chicago anymore and I have to admit that to me the prices seemed a little high, but the quality seemed a lot higher as well. And I love my little dog so much so I'm a sucker when it comes to paying for the good stuff.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The girls that work there are awesome. They're very knowledgeable and friendly. I've never brought my dog in before but whenever someone does, they always give the dog a treat to please them. It's a cute little place but they have all the good stuff. They only carry nutritious and healthy products. We usually buy Orijen and Acana for our 2 year old Shiba. They also have other awesome options with free range meat and wild caught fish. I think every owner should be concerned with what goes in their pets' tummy. And they sell them for a lot cheaper than other places!
They carry A LOT of dog treats. It was hard for me to choose one for my picky dog but they were very helpful in giving me advices.
They also have a variety of interactive/stimulating toys for dogs and cats.
Also, they're very sustainable. They reuse shopping bags from Whole Food's and Trader Joe's. I love it! Bring your own bag in if you can! -

This small pet promoting business has superb
customer service and the epitomizes the true essence of animal lovers! Great selection, excellent location and a welcoming atmosphere free of pretension and snobbery as i have seen at other Lakeview pet boutiques.
not only are they wonderful owners to deal with anytime, these ladies always have homeless pets and rescue group information displayed in their clean and adorable store!!
Frequent this place and you will be greeted with a frienldy smile and your dog will leave waggin his or her tail, no doubt. -

Exceptional. Their selection is thoughtful. Somewhat troubled that they do sell some products made in Thailand but this is a minor complaint. They discontinued California Naturals brand when they sold-out to Proctor Gamble which was reasonable use of their economic power.
As I sit on my Soap Box I encourage everyone to consider adopting before buying from a breeder. Consider also making your own pet food from organic chicken, turkey and other unprocessed ingredients. -

I'd gone by this place a zillion times, and it was not relevant. UNTIL:
I got me a doggy. Then, I walked in (with my dog) and it was a love-fest. Dori and Leslie (the two women who own / run the place) fawned over her. I wanted to buy a cool, decorative collar... Dori personally tended to us, helping to select the perfect one.
Winnie got a bunch of treats and water while she was there. The best part is, Dori gave us a ton of sample food packets and told us how the brands have different websites to order from... Plus, she gave us tips on trainers, advice, etc.
It's a great place. Helpful, attentive, knowledgeable - with true dog lovers at the helm. I go there every couple weeks, buy somethin', ask 'em questions... And just have a delightful visit. -

I love this pet store! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about good foods for your animal. They have lots of high end foods, and they seem to be reasonable (on the expensive end, but the other pet stores sell them for the same price or higher). They even remember me because I was looking for good food for my newly aquired fat cat and joke with me every time I go in - it's nice when businesses remember me in that way.
They give multiple packs of samples if you're curious about a food.
Look for the big grey cat in the store. If there are dogs in the store, he'll be in his cage, but once I saw him sleeping in an empty litterbox! -

We have been coming here pretty religiously every two weeks to pick up dog food, and anything else our two guys might need.
They have been outfitted with jackets for the winter and have gotten treats and toys from this place.
They always get treated when we come in. No matter who is working.
We really like this place.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I randomly went in here the other day to look for a new dog food, and wow!!
They were super nice and friendly and rather than encourage me to buy a huge new bag of food right off the bat, they gave me a bunch of samples and told me to go home and try them out.
We talked about a bunch of other things, and I almost forgot to pay for my other purchases when it was time to leave!
I've definitely found my new pet store! -

I really like this place! I finally found a place that's convenient for me to stop at for cat food. They carry the healthier, natural food that you won't find at Petsmart of Petco. I'm not sure why people were saying the prices weren't on anything... there is a price sticker on the bag I just bought. The staff is very friendly, AND they have a parking lot!!!
Update- The Cubs own the parking lot right next to 4 Legs and you aren't supposed to park there. I guess they tow, too. But what else are you supposed to do if you have huge bags of food to carry?! -

My pug loves this place. Dori and Leslie remember her name, and Lemon remembers that they feed her treats. Win-win. Plus, they're conscientious about what they carry. We live nowhere near here, but that doesn't seem to stop us. If Lemon could drive, she'd go the extra miles even more than I already do.

I stopped in to 4 Legs tonight after finding our go-to dog bakery had gone out of business. What a wonderful place 4 Legs is! The girls were so friendly and so very helpful, as well. They answered any questions I had about products and which would be a good fit for my dog. In addition, the store was clean and fully-stocked with everything from collars, toys, clothes and food to special dog treats and bones galore. Just what I was looking for! We will definitely be going back!

I don't get to 4 Legs that often, but when I do, I am always glad I shopped there for my cats. The staff is always very friendly and conversational and I can never resist petting the store cat, Zen. Zen is the most goregous Russian Blue kitty who just also happens to be FIV+.
I think their prices are totally in line for the high-quality cat foods like Wellness, Merrick, and Evo.
I think I need to shop at 4 Legs this week! -

For years, I shopped at the big-box pet stores and fed Iam's to my cats. Then two cats got cancer, and I started to read labels a bit more carefully. I didn't recognize most of the ingredients listed on the Iam's label, and I started to wonder why I would feed my cats "byproducts" if I wouldn't eat them myself. I sought out super-premium food. Sure, it costs a bit more than the brands sold at grocery stores, vet's offices and chain pet stores, but it pays for itself in lower veterinary bills!
I discovered that, for the most part, only the independent pet stores sell the highest-quality pet food. About 5 years ago I stumbled across 4 Legs, which stocks a huge variety of super-premium brands, and I haven't been in another pet store since. Dorie and Leslie are friendly, thoughtful and considerate store owners, and I happily recommend 4 Legs to my friends who own pets.
Their service goes above and beyond! Once every 6 weeks, I buy a size and variety of food that apparently few others purchase. At most pet stores, that means I'd be out of luck and they'd stop selling it. The last time I went 4 Legs, Dorie told me she'd just received a bag of "my" food because she knew I was probably about to run out! When was the last time a store owner did that for you? And if your pet is a picky eater, they're happy to give you free samples of a variety of foods so you don't waste your money on something your pet dislikes.
I also appreciate their commitment to sell products that are safe, healthy and high-quality. You won't find your typical assortment of cheap "made in China" products here. -

The people here are SO friendly and genuinely loves animals. I've only been in 3 times and they already recognize me and my dog. The people here are very helpful and will take time to answer your questions and give suggestions. They also always have a treat for Riley.
All the products in this store are something I am comfortable feeding Riley and are not junk like those sold at big pet chain stores. -

We love 4 Legs. And so does Miss Lucy - even though she has never entered the store premises, she gets lots of goodies from here. We have been in here 3 or 4 times recently hemming and hawing over what new toy to get her to stimulate her craziness... Well we have picked up a few successful items, some of her stocking stuffers (shhh don't tell) and a wool sweater. Well, the wool sweater went right back as we found out the delicate Miss Lucy is allergic to wool! I didnt have a receipt or the tags and they took it right back for a store credit.
But the thing that gets me, is every time I go into this store the owner remembers things about my dog. Even though she has never met her, she knows what we are looking for and that Lucy is allergic to certain foods. I am flabbergasted with delight every time.
While yes it may be a little pricey - its worth it, great local place that really does care about its clientele! -

I keep forgetting to write a review for this place, but a bad experience at Pawsh Puppies, made me remember to write a review.
I live down the street from this place and it's very convenient. The owners are very sweet and help you with anything. Whenever I come in with my dogs, they remember their names and play with them and ask if it's okay if they give my dogs treats - checking first to see if they have allergies.
My dogs also have sensitive stomachs and they have given me suggestions on food to try and have given me samples before selling me a huge bag.
The customer service here is great and I'm so glad they are right down the street. They offer a good selection of food, treats, toys, clothing and everything else your pup could ever need! -

I have to write a review of these guys because I'm just so pleased with the experience we had last week.
After 2.5 days and nights of explosive puppy diarrhea and 3 days of a hamburger and rice diet, we finally determined that our dog's food (which he had been eating successfully for 2 months) had to be causing his stomach problems.
I sent my husband into 4 Legs to pick up some new food that would be easy on my pup's digestive system. The helpful staff informed him that the food's formulation had changed (unbeknownst to anyone, since the manufacturer was obviously keeping it a secret) and that's probably why my dog was so sick.
They picked out two different brands for us, and I'm happy to report that my dog is feeling much better.
I can't thank them enough for their knowledge. If we hadn't known about the change in formulation, we would've driven ourselves crazy trying to figure out what was making the dog sick. -

Just another five stars for this place. They remember me and my usual purchase, they give great advice and product recommendations, but I never feel pressured to buy anything. Awesome.

I live closer to other pet stores now, but I keep coming back to this one, even though the parking sucks. This means I really like this store.
They've given me great free samples, helped me with a number of recommendations and advice, and most importantly, they remember my dog's name, even when he's NOT with me! Also, they've got the best selection of specialty and organic foods and crazy environmentalist toys that I love so very much.
The only think I hate about them is that they have a great selection of expensive bones right at Cedric height. I wish I were better at resisting puppy eyes or that they weren't at browsing level for him. I end up buying them! -

These gals are great! Friendly, knowledgeable, and I couldn't believe that they rememberd my dog months after my first visit, even without the dog there!
Great selection of products, and it's the only place we can buy our dogs' favorite treats, Salmon Paws. I've picked up some totally unique toys here, from Canine Genius rubber and plush toys to a giant bully ball for our pups to herd around. If we were into cute collars and things, I'd be in terrible danger of spending waaay too much money here -- they're seriously adorable.
Other super cool things -- 10% ZipCar discount (once they gave it to us even though we had and I-Go car), free delivery on purchases over $100, and a program for frequent buyer program for dog and cat food. -

Perhaps I've just went at the wrong times, but I often find this store crowded. Clearly they are doing something right because I noticed right away there appeared to be many return customers they acknowledged. Prices are lower than the other boutiques in the area, but I find the other boutiques to be more helpful. Then again they were doing their best, but if the store is always that busy then they might need more than two people working.
Be sure to check the clearance selection because there were plenty of great finds -

I feel terrible that I don't remember the names of the two women that operate this store, because they are always so welcoming. They always have the time to chat and answer any questions you might have. They genuinely care about animals and are knowledgeable on their products.
They have a great selection of collars, leashes, toys and treats. And they are always willing to order you something specific. The prices can be a little on the high side, but I think you definitely get what you pay for in terms of service.
We used to live within walking distance to the store, but moved away about a year ago. However, we still take the time to stop by their shop when we are in the area and when we'd like certain items that our new local shop doesn't carry. -

4 Legs is Great!!! ..... When you walk in you know you are in a place where animals (and people) are truly loved. Only the best quality food. And some nice toys for my cat - high quality items all around. I bought a 7 ft. tall cat tree there that was made from real trees and had wool berber carpeting rather than the usual cheap nylon carpeting. Even though it was a little pricey, it was well worth it. Every visit there I have felt extremely welcome. If I lived closer I would buy all my pet supplies there. The only drawback, and this is the ONLY one, is that IF there is a Cubs game going on, it's pretty impossible to find a place to park.

Dory & Leslie are some pretty awesome petshop girls. I think their shop is one of my absolute fave neighborhood independent businesses that I love to support. My kits get to eat healthy food that they test out (thanx Zen!) and I just love to shop there - they are always friendly and even recently matched me up with an adorable kitten. Really, if you like to support independent shop owners, and need pet food / gear, they have a fantastic selection - environmentally conscious as well!

After boarding my dog at Urban Outsitters in 2006 my dog got very sick, it was horrid and he had to be put on Px food from the vet-
Instead of going to the bathroom 3x a day he was going up to 8x, it was horrible! The food he was on was going right through him and we had him on it for about a year-
I decided to try 4 Legs and see what kind of products they sold-They introduced me to new food and gave me lots of samples-The employees are so nice and they knew so much and were able to help me find a brand of food that worked-I was hesitant but they knew what they were talking about and my dog started going to the bathroom only 3x a day, back to normal-
They were more helpful to me than my vet-Always nice and they know what Jager needs which is nice-The food they sell there is very good, organic and very good for pets- -

This place is pretty awesome. It was very reasonably priced for a north side boutique and the store owner or worker was so helpful and friendly! I was really happy that she gave my dog some welcome treats and let him smell around. She wasn't pushy about buying anything and she also offered a lot of helpful information about pet adoption. I would definitely go back when I want to spoil my dogs but as a poor college student I will have to buy my dog food at Costco still :(

After the awkward experience I had at dogaholics (they don't accept checks over 30 bucks) ..... I decided to give 4 legs a try. Wow I'm soo stoked to have found them, the owners are super friendly and they gave me tons of free samples. These ladies know their treats, my pups loved it, I'm truly impressed. One of the owners even offered to show me how to put on the protective rubber booties since my pups put up such a fuss. The 4 legs experience is a must for all you pet parents.

In reference to Lori L's posting, the pricing at 4 Legs is accurate and in line with the national MSRP for Primal Pet Foods. Stores in the Chicago area able to purchase from two distributors. One of the distributors (the one that was NOT selling to 4 Legs) had been selling to retailers at below cost on error. All stores in the Chicago area are now selling the Venison Patties and all Primal products for the same price now that the distributor issue has been resolved.
Thus, the pricing on the Venison Patties at 4 Legs is correct and not overpriced.
4 Legs is an excellent store, with superior service, the highest quality products and competitive pricing. -

Nicole and i have been coming here pretty much from the start with our first dog. The ladies that run/own this place are the best and some of the nicest people we have ever met. Ive never been one who has "that place" that he goes for everything but this place has become just that, food, treats and sometimes toys, they all have it and i feel better spending my money here then handing over to some big company like Petco. The store is small but they have what you need w/o all the bullshit that Petco has. Whats even better is the individual attention they give you and your pets, they make every customer feel special for just coming in.
