I am a picky eater. . . especially when it comes to my favorite sandwich:  TUNA!  This place has one of the best tuna sandwiches I've ever tasted.  The tuna was seasoned with onion and not too much mayo).  The bread is lovely and the sandwich is huge.  A large green leafy salad was included.  Good price, also.

I can't comment on the atmosphere, as my food was 'take-out.'

It is nice to find a place that serves nice fresh food!

Great bar that offers a vast selection of soccer games from all over. The drinks are great and the amtospher is enjoyable.

The food portions are big, that you have to share. Good and delicous too...

Owner was very cool about putting a hockey game on for us. Lots of good Balkan beers. For was good and plentiful. But not cheap. It gets packed for soccer games like Timbers and UEFA Playoffs.

    Yes, I love soccer...
    Yes, I love Jersey Shore..
Yes, I love watching Jersey Shore season 4 premiere at a soccer bar..

Well, that's how I encountered 4-4-2. The super nice owner of this place allowed us (myself, Jesse, and few other yeeps) gathered at his bar in front of the big screen, and indulged in super delicious Bosnian food.

Before my visit to 4-4-2, I've never had Bosnian food. It turned out to be that I missed out a lot on hearty comfort food goodness. I ordered the Combo-hmmm beef sammich- i, evap, kajmak, ajvar and a small Mediterranean salad. The Sis is the spicy beef sausage. The Cevap is a perfect blend of different cuts of beef and lamb.

I almost fainted when they brought my food. IT WAS HUMONGOUS. IT'S HUGE (like that's what she said...). I thought to myself, there was no way I would be able to finish it. WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG. I ate the whole thing. Jesse got the Chicken with lots o Cheese sammich and he didn't share any bite of it with me at all.

Both sammiches were da bomb. The owner was so funny, polite, and quirky. I would loveeeee to come back here again. Either for soccer or if they are nice, they would let us watch some trashy reality show there again. Till then, I will keep fist pumping and sing Ole Ole Ole at the same time.

Outstanding place for beer, Cevap and a good game of footy (proper football) on the telly.
They are missing a Glasgow Rangers FC jersey, and that's the only flaw in an otherwise perfect establishment. Good selection of beers and having spent considerable time in Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia I can say that the Cevapcici here is superb and very authentic. Service is very good as well.
Highly recommended by the Pacific Northwest True Blues (Rangers Supporters)!!!

Absolutly. Love this place its great for all soccer matches, if they are televised anywhere it will be found here. And if they aren't playing the match you were looking for just ask. The food is great  and portions that wont make you feel hungry afterwards. It can get fairly cozy at times so i would say not the best for large groups, that is unless your part of the TA, then its just  the right  size for fans and chanting  .The bartenders and the owner are great folks!

I would totally come back to 4-4-2 for some sweet soccer watching, companionship, and their fantastic 24oz mugs of icy beer, but I'm curious how it is on a non-game night.  I'll make sure to stop in sometime soon and check it out.  This place rocks, with a nice distribution of seating at tables, the bar, and even some couches.  Mostly because I'm a geek I also find a redeeming feature in getting to compare the black levels and hues on the various plasma versus LCD TVs around the room!

Good beer but I wasn't able to try out the food.  The owner is a cool dude and usually around so say high if you see him.  Wifi, bathrooms, and the comfy air of soccer solidarity.

if you want to watch some obscure soccer game, or really any soccer game during football season you will find it here. while other bars are surely playing nfl or college games this is a soccer bar and plays the other football you might have heard about.

the inside is cozy and gets packed during the big timbers games. arrive early if you even want a chance at a seat. but on off times it is pretty nice. you can chose from table or bar seating and the tvs are arranged so you can watch from just about every seat.

the menu is bosnian food, but you will find a couple familiar favorites like a burger, fries and hot dog. we tried the bosnian cevap and it was pretty good. different from what i thought it was going to be. i was expecting some gyro thing, but it was more like a big round sausage sandwich. i split the large with my boyfriend. i do wish it came with a side of fries, then it would be a good meal.

beer here comes in pints or mugs. get the mug because its only 50 cents more and has 8oz more of beer. plus its cool to drink out of a mug.

the service is really friendly and we felt very welcomed there. a great place to go for the game, or just to check out a new place. even if you dont like soccer you will enjoy this place.

Interesting little place in a town that is just loaded with great little places.

Obviously 4-4-2 is a bar that caters to Soccer fans.  Lots of soccer jerseys and memoribilia everywhere.  Thats where it separates me from the people who gave this place a five star.  As a spectator, I just can't get into soccer, like watching paint dry.  Also the famed Mohammed wasn't here on this particular day so he wasn't given the opportunity to wow our socks off.

That said, there is a nice selection of beers on tap.  Menu is made up of Croatian/Mediterannean dishes.  I tried the Cepavi which was a beef/lamb blend on a oil infused bread, served with diced onions and pureed roasted red peppers.  It was a very interesting dish, I was fine with it but it didn't "wow" me.  They also serve salads and more traditional bar fare like burgers and hot dogs.

Bar itself was nice and cozy with some seating on the outside.  Female patrons were very friendly which was a big plus.  In summary, the place was a nice relaxing place and a good joint for grabbing a few brews, meeting some people.  The "wow" factor wasn't there but perhaps I came at a bad time.

I like sports.  It's been duly noted. Yet of late, I've become disenchanted with what was my favorite sports no more than a year ago: professional football.  The NFL.  Not so much displeasure with the college 'ball, but I welcomed it's off-season with open arms nonetheless.  I figured I need to expand my atheltic horizons.  Hockey and soccer were the first two that came up on my radar.  I have friends who like soccer.  Interested in what makes the sport so good that people wear Timbers scarfs in June, I, at the invitation of some good friends, treked down the street to the 4-4-2.

Walking in, I knew this place meant soccer business.  All sorts of soccer paraphernalia, from a Portland Pride (R.I.P.) jerseys to internation teams' flags adorn the walls.  Very cool collection of stuff to look at.

The TVs around the place suffice, to say the very least.  Sitting anywhere in the place, you can get a good view of all the action going on.

The food is also good.  My steak sandwich and side salad were very tasty.  I didn't really take too much time to read over the rest of the menu, but I hear there's some unique items that I should consider ordering next time.

But the thing I think is best about this place, is that Portlanders who value soccer first have a place to call their own.  Let's face it, the Blazers, Ducks and Beavers all all hot tickets to watch at watering holes around town.  But the fact that people can go watch premier European soccer without having to be subjected to local sports teams is excellent.  Props to Mohammad, the owner, who treated me well, as if I was a regular patron.

My ambition of becoming more soccer-educated received a bit of a roadblock from the Good Ol' Boys Turning Left, and the NBA, after the All-Star break and trade deadline.  I still really have no idea what's going on during the game.  But, when I get back on track, I'll make sure to hit up 4-4-2 and watch a game or two.

After only one visit to 4-4-2, I am in love.

The owner Muhammed has put himself wholeheartedly into his bar and it shows.  On a recent visit, he shared stories about his life, recent bar events, talked me into trying some great Bosnian food, gave me a tour of his memorabilia and then sat down and joined me for a drink once his shift was over.

Even if I did not love football, the love that Muhammed has for football, his establishment and his customers is infectious.

After remarking upon the nice selection of local beers and the absence of Budweiser, he exclaimed, "I wash my hands with Budweiser!" and won a place in my heart.

    One-word impression: DOBRA

In Bosnian, "dobra" means good, but that kind of understates how awesome it is to have 4-4-2 in the neighborhood. To have a dedicated soccer pub with 3 big screens without me having to go downtown is good. To throw in some delicious Bosnian pub food (I could eat ajvar with every meal), CHEAP microbrews and imports on tap ($4.50 for 24oz. beers!), and a lively soccer-loving crowd makes this place great! Sure there are some key negatives, such as less-than-fully-attentive service and non-Bosnian food options that are lackluster. However, the overall experience is super-fun and worth waking up at 7AM for to catch an English Premier League match. I can't wait until a big event like the Champions League Final or the Eurocup comes around to really see this place reach its full potential!

Just wanted to note how awesome the owner and his staff are, yet again.

We strolled tonight in after learning the evening's MLS playoff game between San Jose and New York was not streaming on ESPN 3.

Fruitless searches for an internet stream followed until I called off the mission with, "The hell with it. Let's just go to 442."

So we did. Walked in, were greeted by Mohammad in his normal boisterous and extremely friendly manner, and asked him if he was showing the MLS playoff game. Unfortunately the MLS TV coverage is shit and unless you're viewing locally in one of the two cities playing against each other, you had to watch this match either on illegal stream or on a Spanish channel TeleFutura. He froze for a second and confessed that he didn't think they had that channel.

Well, damn. Always a bummer to come to a sports bar ready for action and then find out the game isn't available.

2/3 of the bar was engrossed in the Oregon v. USC game while one lone TV played Hercules v. Real Madrid. We took a seat and ordered drinks figuring we'd just catch some of the Real Madrid game and then take off.

Then suddenly one of the ladies who works there appeared in front of us with the remote and a cordless phone. She was straight up calling the provider to see if they could order the channel.

Aside from this being the most incredible gesture I've ever come across in a sports bar, that's just... I'm at a loss of how to describe it. Mohammad and his crew are -that- hospitable toward their customers who are treated more like guests than anything.

In the end, DirectTV told her they couldn't get the channel because the Spanish dishes were different than the American dishes and whatever other technical hooplah went along with that. And they were super apologetic when they were unable to come through with the game. I was too blown away that they even tried, going out of their way to order another channel if even for one game. That's service. That's incredible service.

We killed off the drinks after finding a questionable yet decent stream online, thanked Mohammad again and told him we'd see him soon then hurried home to catch most of the second half. New York won the first leg but after tonight's performance, 4-4-2 wins -always-.

The Chavape is AMAZING, not sure if I spelled that right. BEST EVER!!! It's lamb and beef on amazing bread with this great red/orange looking sauce and onions. I really need to be looking at a menu so I can describe it better. There are different sizes, I usually get the small order because that one is still big and very filling. I love this place! The staff is great, love them!

I do miss it being the taste of Europe because they had great candies and chocolate but a soccer bar is just so cool!!! I don't watch soccer all the time but when I am at 4-4-2 I get sucked in to the TV because I love soccer.

This is a classy bar with the most handsome and outgoing owner whose passion for serving "the best" experience and food he can.

My two girlfriends and I met up on a Saturday around 1pm. There were a few other patrons, but as "beautiful ladies" we were spoiled by Mohammed. I was still buzzed from the night before at Blitz, so thankfully they serve mochas as well as a full bar. For lunch I had the Pesto Chicken Sandwich which came with a salad. The chicken was amazing, the pesto was perfection, and the salad with balsamic dressing was a simple masterpiece.  For dessert he brought us Belgium chocolate candy which really won us over.

The joint itself is sexy and sleek. When I'm not at the Timber's home games I will definitely be here for the away games.

    Join us!!

"Lady, you're going to give yourself a headache!"

That's what the owner, Muhamed, said to me with a huge laugh as I tried to keep my attention multitasking between the three flat screens as they played different soccer games. We sat at one end of the bar, which was probably the best place to be if you did want to see all three. This bar isn't huge by any means. It's going to be fun trying to get a huge group in here for any big, important game.

But you're going to see a ton of games any time you stop in. There is a blackboard on one wall that is filled with the day's schedule. The Saturday we stopped in had games going absolutely all day. Some were live. Some were recorded. Most of Sunday was booked as well.

It's not a trashy sports bar, either. If it weren't for the soccer flags on the walls or the large soccer ball on the beer cooler, you wouldn't know it was anything other than another bar on Hawthorne. There are dark woods, mirrors, red walls. It's really quite classy. There is a lot of natural light filtering in during the day, though. It's great.

Muhamed lives and breathes this bar. You feel it from the moment you walk in. He's a people person, and he knows what's good. He wants to tell you what's good. He won't steer you wrong. The man has stories. He learns your order within a visit or two, and from then on it is like going to Grandpa's house. Only this time your grandpa was an awesome soccer player back in the day and has great taste in food.

The food is heavy on the Bosnian influence, seeing as that's where he's from. That doesn't mean you can't get a cheeseburger, heavy on the midfield, or vegetarian options. It's all here. It's reasonably priced for your portions, and you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't try some of the Sis [pronounced sheesh]. The spicy, house-made sausage and bread is absolutely delicious. It's filling, which is perfect for soaking up any number of their beers or his famous hot toddys. Their coffee [specifically the cappuccino] is some of the best I've had in awhile. The bread that comes with the sausages and breakfast is some of my favorite. I always order large orders of everything just to get the extra bread.

Conversations are running rampant across the bar, so don't expect a quiet time in front of the TV. This is a place where good people come together for good games and good beer.

Even if you aren't in the games, the food alone is worth a trip in. Just don't expect him to flip it to the latest game in one of those other sports.

Great food and a beer selection second only to the Horse Brass, and 4-4-2 has some that HB does not. They also serve espresso,  very useful for the European matches which are live usually late morning or noonish.

Wow, one of the funniest, nicest publicans I've met. Service can get a little bit slow when busy, but the owner is funny and will take care of you.

The food is basically casual Bosnian fair. Heavy on a sausage that is like a loosely packed gyro. The red pepper sauce accompanying most dishes is perfect for spreading on the fabulous bread.

I can't really describe the bread on the sandwiches, its kind of like a really buttery brioche.

Good selection of German and Central European beers.

Super nice owner who makes everyone feel welcome at 4-4-2. I ordered the veggie sandwich on the owner's recommendation and was very happy with it. Different grilled veggies and a unique cheese made for a delicious sandwich. It was kind of messy eating so I might hesitate to order it if I was trying to make a good first impression on someone. Just an FYI. A vegan can order any of the three veggie sammies without the lebanese cheese or mayo. The salad that came with had a light vinegraite dressing. Very yummy! BF had the burger but it was made with or in a Lebanese style that wasn't quite what he was after. Next time he vowed to order the pesto chicken sandwich. The soccer games are on every TV and the crowd is a blast so we'll be back to watch another game!
