4.0 is the greatest sandwich shop in San Diego, hands down.  $6 pitchers of beer and their awesome grilled rivas turkey sandwich is the best combo there.  Great college atmosphere with plenty of TV's to watch sports on.

Plus, they just got in new booths from the old pub that was located on campus (Monty's) so their seating just got even better.  The service is friendly and fast.  Usually, I can order my food, find a seat, pour myself a glass of beer, and get settled in in the time that my sandwich is being prepared.

When I went to SDSU everyone would go crazy about the sandwiches at 4.0 Deli buttt I dont think they're that great. Just mediocre.

This place isnt too fancy-- You're typical college hangout spot.
It gets pretty crowded throughout the day and I hate the seating....but thats just me. You might love it.

Located near SDSU. This place is the go-to stop for the busy but hungry student. Usually I buy a large to-go, but when I want to eat in, I get a small and draft beer. Try the Godfather or any other sandwich. It comes with a pickle when you eat in.

Average price for large: seven dollars. Average for small: five dollars.
    Service: Almost always excellent.

This place is so gross!  The people who make the sandwiches don't wear gloves!  Seriously.  They use their bare hands - hands I don't know where they've been!  The people who make the sandwiches also manage the cash register so they're taking your credit/debit cards, cash, etc... then making your sandwiches.  Ewww!  The prices for a sandwich is gonna cost you a little under $10.  You're better off going to Windmill Farms - they're sandwiches are only $4 and they wear gloves and parking is much much easier!

I went to SDSU for years and I never came in here. I preferred to get in, and get out of there asap. But my boyfriend comes here with his friend who works at state all the time. I was starving and working at home, so he brought me a sandwich, aw how nice. Im not sure what it was called, but it was a veggie sandwich.

Veggie sandwich had lettuce, tomato, avocado, red onions, some kind of marinated bell peppers, and pesto. It was SO good. It really hit the spot. This is like a step above Cheers deli in San Carlos. The only thing was it was really oily. They like their pesto swimming in oil, so part of the bread was soaked and my hands were a mess by the time I was done. Other than that it was delicious.

I cant speak as to the atmosphere or parking details, but their sandwiches are definitely good! I guess I would rather take it to go anyway Im too old for the fake hipster frat guys playing flip cup in the corner anyway.

    ////// E D I T ///////

I really like that the owner takes time to read yelp reviews, and make changes. I went in to get a sandwhich to go and this time the pesto oil was in a container on the side to avoid the soggy bread! 4.0 Deli Rulz

Still a fan of this place. Just stopped by before an Aztecs Basketball game and the decor has changed a bit. There are now booths in the main area and it seems even nicer.

The food is still amazing. If you bring a friend, I suggest buying two different sandwiches and splitting. I haven't had a bad sandwich yet and this time I tried the The Andeli. It had grilled chicken, melted Swiss, thousand island dressing, topped with  homemade coleslaw. Very tasty sandwich.

My friend got the Philly Cheese-steak Pizziaola. It included grilled roast beef, red and green peppers, and onions with marinara sauce, melted provolone cheese, and grated parmesan cheese on a toasted sub. This was also a very tasty sandwich.

The place got a lot busier as we were leaving for the game, so we're not the only ones that know about it.

If you're looking for a great sandwich in the college area, this is definitely the place to fill that need.

Pretty darn good, I love me some sammich and this place hit the spot.
The place has an impressive array of sando's and two sizes of sandwiches-the 6 or 12 inch.
I ordered the 6" The Aztec Sandwich that had the following: Ham, Genoa Salami, Provolone Cheese, Lettuce & Tomatoes, Peperocinis, Marinated Onions (which I opted to skip) all drenched in a seasoned Oil and Vinegar dressing.  I was elegantly satisfied and a bit sad I didn't have a little bit more sandwich for a few more bites and save for later.  I was a pretty happy girl leaving though.  Did have a bite of my BF's sandwich and it was damn good, I just don't remember what he got.
The guys working the counter were nice and polite and my order was to my table in about 5 minutes.
    Well done.

You really can't go wrong with any sandwich or salad choice here.

I've made it a mission to try everything on the menu, but sometimes it's hard to order something different because the last thing I ate was oh soooo gooooddd, I wanna order it again.

It is located on/next to SDSU campus so sometimes parking is a hassle... just think smart, and don't come during prime times (like noon).

Everyone I've brought here loves what they've eaten. If you are a vegetarian, give your taste buds a treat with their Vegetarian Heaven sandwich, it is great! I'm not a vegetarian, but every once in a while like to eat meat free entrees... this sandwich it delicious!

I like to eat there so I can add tapitio to some bites. I like spicy. If you have a hard time deciding what to get, narrow is down by what you want (Turkey, Pastrami, Chicken, Steak, Ham, etc.). THEN continue with eeny, meeny, miny, mo...

BTW... cheap pitchers of beer and TVs all around to catch the game.

Top sandwiches in San Diego. Top 5 in my life.

When I first arrived at SDSU as a sheltered 18 year old, I called the one guy I knew at state to get some lunch advice. Literally my first day in SD, and he says - "this is the only advice you need for college, get your self the Godfather a 4.0." I never looked back after that moment. The next 4 years, 4.0 provided me with some of the tasty sandwiches known to man.

I finally decided to branch out and try new things and now can speak to the Godfather, Aztec, Off the Wall, Montezuma, Diego con Queo, Mr. Miyagi and Bronx Bomber - and all of those are fantastic.

The decor is a little different. It's been remodeled but at one point there was a fountain and t-shirts everywhere. They have beer with great happy hour deals and occasionally $5 pitchers. The parking is pretty bad, but it is worth it.

    Best sando in sandaygo.

Absolutely fantastic. The best sandwiches you'll ever get in San Diego, and the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. I normally tend to avoid delis because sandwiches just really aren't my thing, but 4.0 completely surprised me. This is one of my favorite places to go with my friends because the prices are incredibly fair, the staff is super nice, and the environment is very clean and just the kind of place you'd really want to eat a sandwich in.

Really good sandwich and good portion for the price.  This place is much better than Subway or Quiznos.  Actually, cheaper than Quiznos but tastes much better and they do have hot subs.  Their cold subs are good too.  They have a big variety of menu items so you can always get something else if you're not in the mood for the same thing again.

They should consider getting a meal plan with SDSU.  It's a bit run down inside, but the quality of the sandwich makes it up and makes it not matter.

Three stars for the food, and extra star for the great variety and crativity on the menu and $6 pitchers.  Okay, they're small, but it's still a great deal!

I tried the Cheesesteak Philly on the recommendation of the guy at the register.  I figured it was a good bet to go with a standard.  Maybe not...it was just okay - nothing like I expected really, more like a roast beef and cheese sandwich.   If I were from Philadelphia, I think I might have thrown a little tantrum over the lack of authenticity, maybe even grabbed and eraser and removed all the "Philly" references on the menu (2 or 3 versions).  Thankfully for them, I'm from St. Louis and we don't know much about these sandwiches either, so the passion's just not there.  As I understand it, grilled onions, green peppers and Cheez Whiz are kind of standards on the real thing.  I can definitely let tje lack of orange cheese.slide, but they need to bulk up on the onions and peppers, IMO.

I have no doubt I'd visit a few more times if I lived anywhere near here - some of the other menu items sounded pretty good.

If you're looking for a place to kick back and have a pitcher near SDSU, or you're just craving a really good sandwich, 4.0 is the place to go! I've been here several times and they are always friendly, clean and the food is always BOMB. I've had several group meetings for school work in here over some beers...responsible right? But it's overall just a really nice place to hang out and eat some good food. They have an unruly amount of sandwich choices, but the Left Coast is probably my favorite :) Go!!

    Love this place!

As a vegetarian, it can be difficult to find a sandwich that has the whole package. I am always looking for sandwich that not only tastes good, but it also must fill me up and have the freshest ingredients. That is why I am a devout lover of the Vegetarian Heaven sandwich at 4.0 Deli.

This sandwich has sprouts, avocado (lots of it!), red onions, roasted red peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, mozzarella, and a pesto dressing all served on fresh bread.

    DELICIOUS!

Get the Godfather. One of the best tasting turkey roast beef sandwiches i've ever had. i'm a big eater, and even the upgrade for a large for a 1.00 was not too big (not exactly sure how big the smaller one is). stil, if you're lookin for a good sandwich place, this place got a wide range of sandwiches with clever titles! the big apple sounded hot though... what could have been!

Great sandwiches! I'm in love with the pesto dressing on the Godfather. They take to-go orders, but don't have an online menu, so remember to get their paper menu when you get here.

    Recommendations:
"The Godfather"- roasted turkey breast. roasted red peppers, melted provolone cheese, zesty petso dressing, mayo, lettuce, and tomato

"Mr. Miyagi" - grilled chicken teriyaki, avocado, sprouts, lettuce, tomato

"Club 4.0"- turkey on toasted sourdough with thousand island dressing, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, sprouts, avocado and bacon

I am surprised by other folks' reviews of this place, maybe I ought to give it another shot and maybe I'm way off.

Basically if you can imagine a college student who decorates his dorm room with beer signs and posters making a restaurant, it would look a lot like this.

I guess that makes it no-frills, but I wasn't impressed particularly by the sandwich I had.

I've only been here once and heard good things about the Godfather so I tried it. So damn good! You've gotta try this sandwich if you ever come to this location. I'm coming back to try their other sandwiches. Good place to go if you're on a budget but tired of ordering off the dollar menu at the McDonald's on the other side.

The typical customers are SDSU students but there are outside visitors coming here as well. A little dark, but enough light to eat. Employees are friendly, willing to help you choose a sandwich if it's your first time. Good restaurant to go with friends between classes or want to try a different sandwich place.

I just had 4.0 for the first time since I graduated from state 4 years ago. It is still as amazing as I remember!

I've only had the "Club 4.0" and it is so good that I don't know if I would ever get anything else. The small version is very filling and the large version is the same but just more meat. The club 4.0 is sourdough bread, thousand island, turkey, lettuce, tomato, red onion, alfalfa sprouts, avocado, and bacon; they also give you a pick on the side for all you pickle lovers!

The side I got was a container of strawberries and some yogurt type stuff to dip them in. Amazing!!

The place is not very big and get packed during the week.

Their pastrami sandwich is SOO good. I don't usually like to try new things, but I am so happy I decided to try the pastrami sandwich. I have yet to build the courage to try something else, but I will eventually. When I do, I'm sure I will not be disappointed.
Their service is great and pretty quick for when they are a little busy. The atmosphere of this place is so chill, you can come hang out here and watch sports (or what they have on television at the time) and drink some beer in between classes if you have a break. If you haven't tried this place yet, I would definitely recommend coming here when you have time.
Parking can be a little difficult to find, but they have a tiny lot they share with a bunch of other shops in the area. There's also 2 hour street parking (which I prefer), but those can be taken up by students who only have a class or two.

The best sandwich in walking distance of SDSU.

I frequent 4.0 when I need to eat and dont have time to make anything, want to show a friend one of SDSU's "local spots" or to get hammered and watch a sports game.  (Came here for the SDSU - UCONN game and ended up turning over a table and almost fighting someone bc they were blocking my view)  Only bummer about watching a game here is that you can't hear anything.

If you want the best place to watch a game, 4.0 isn't it, but it can serve as a nice place if you want to socialize more than you want to watch the game and are just using the game as an excuse to meet up.

The happy hours are SICK, and thats why they are on my best happy hour list.  $5 for a pitcher of Henie???  #LFG!

Ps - Only reason I gave this place 3 stars and not 4 is bc the sandwiches are a bit pricey, tho they are delicious.  Not quite enough bang for your buck, but a great college type place that has great sandwiches and cheap beer (if you go during happy hour of course :)

Leave it to me, a SDSU alum (class of '05), to wait years after I have graduated to try a sandwich place I had heard about throughout my college days. Hit up the place everyone talks about after class? Nah. On my break between classes? Nah. On a lazy Sunday where I have to drive over to that area, find parking and eat with kids 8 years younger than me? Of course!

Anyway, pretty solid sandwich joint. I had the Godfather, the lady had the La Jolla. Bread was solid if not spectacular, meat was fresh and tasty and the toppings made for an overall enjoyable sandwich.  Definitely a college area establishment, SDSU stuff on the walls, locally named sandwiches and some delightful beer specials.  Nothing about our sandwiches will have me running back, but will definitely hit it up again if I happen to be the area.

I can't believe I haven't written a review about this place yet! This place is AMAZING!! Other than the fact that it's right across campus, their sandwiches are to die for!!

I normally get the Phizzle Chizzle which is delicious. I'm not exactly sure what they have in it because once I get it, its gone, no time to really check the ingredients and beside I was just introduced to it by my friend. The sub is juicy and all the ingredients just compliment each other. Sadly, it's hard for me to put into words how delicious this sandwich is, but just trust me, you will not leave unsatisfied. I've also had the Godfather before, which is good, but if you want something with more flavor, go with the Phizzle. My friend also loves the Big Butler, she is a foodie/cook and knows good food when she tastes one, so that's one I definitely recommend as well, I'm not sure if it's on the menu anymore, but you can still order it.

I am also a pickle girl, so the pickle on the side gives them extra points ^_~ You can also order chips, cookies, and other snacks that work well with the subs. 4.0 Deli is awesome and definitely worth your time trying!!!

A great place to grab a sandwich around San Diego State, but beware, the place is crawling with undergraduates salivating for more beer pong.

Sandwiches come in regular or "bring an appetite" size. The regular is plenty of food, I barely ate half of mine. If the sandwich comes with sauce, it will be dripping in it, so be sure to order it light if you don't like too much drippiness on your sandwich. They don't skimp on the good stuff like avocados either.

They have an array of sandwiches to choose from--regular fare plus gourmet bites and cheesesteaks. Overall great place, just be prepared for a bustling, young crowd.

I can't think of a single thing that gives this place a negative thought. The food is simply amazing. They have tons of options that you can choose from and you really can't pick a bad one. I've had plenty and they are all awesome. The people that work here are all super friendly and always nice. Everything is made fresh when you order so it takes a few minutes to get your order but i'd rather wait a few minutes and get something fresh than the alternative. They also serve beer here!!!!!! You can go here, get some amazing food, get a pitcher and watch the game. They have plenty of TV's. The place can get busy around lunch time so sometimes seating can be tricky. I love this place. If you are around SDSU, you need to try this place. You won't be sorry.

The place is a short walk from SDSU and attracts a good amount of people for lunch so make sure you have enough time to eat in between classes ( had to cut it close a couple times).

I think the reason i didnt go here too often when i was in college was because i would eat too much and then be a food coma zombie the rest of the day. So i would probably recommend this more for dinner so you dont pass out on your desk in class.

    Recommend- The Cheesesteak

Godfather. That's all you need to know.

I do get jealous of the stateheads who are lucky enough to have this place near their campus. The portion of their sandwiches are perfect (not too much, not too little). Whenever I'm in the area, I do like stopping by here just because I've never found a place that compares to their amazing sub--Godfather. Price is fair too, I mean they are around a college anyway.

4.0 is by far my favorite deli in California. The Veggie Heaven is amazing! The food is well-priced, great atmosphere, nice local business.

Mouth watering sandwiches that will make you come back for more. Everytime i am here i leave satisfied! The Godfather is my personL favorite and the service is always welcoming and on point. This place is not too big if you are planning to sit and eat but it does have tvs for you to enjoy some sports while you eat your food! Try one if you havent already!
