I have a geeky kid with a slight addiction to Minecraft. For his 12th birthday the idea was floated around the extended family to get him a computer.  Instead of getting him a new computer, a friend suggested we should check out 3R Technology and their array of used computers because surely one would meet his needs.  And, how!  The guys at 3R took some time to figure out which would be the best one for a kid who likes to play games and watch YouTube videos about those games.  I was able to get him an extravagant birthday present for a far less than extravagant price.

I love the fact that they have a 30 day warranty if something should go wrong.  Usually you know within 30 days if something is going to tank or not.

3R has the friendliest staff imaginable.  They are nowhere near as intimidating as other computer shops in town where you have to speak geek in order to get good service.

More than that, though, I am now sold on the concept of reusing and recycling computer and electronic equipment.  We are being spoon-fed the idea that we constantly need to upgrade and buy newer, better, faster while the old products just sit around or, worse, end up in the landfill.  I am rejecting that notion.  Sign me up for the custom track suit and shoes, fellas.

My place of business has been gearing up for an office move over the last several months. In that time, we've gathered three different (mid-sized) piles of random tech junk that has accumulated over the last 12 years. Wanting to get rid of these items responsibly (and prior to our move), I contacted 3R Technology. What awesome service! The same guy (tall, dark hair with a pony tail) has come to pick-up our to-be-recycled tech goods each time, and he's always been super polite and enjoyable to work with. So is the receptionist, who I spoke with a few times about scheduling pick-up dates and times.

Their prices are reasonable, they do great work and their customer service skills are rockin'. I don't think we'd ever look into any other companies for our tech recycling needs!

After a move across the country and a desperate need for some essentials, I contacted 3R Technology for a computer, TV and monitors.   3R was so personable and helpful and got me connected with exactly what I needed to start my new home back here in Washington.
I was so relieved to be able to find electronics that worked and were affordable with my limited budget.  These guys are great!

Disclaimer: I did work for this company a few years ago and remain on good terms with the owner.

That said, I want to trumpet, cheer and otherwise herald the awesomeness that is technology reuse/recycling.  3R is an ethical and environmentally conscious technology recycling company that emphasis reuse of perfectly good, only moderately outdated electronics.  What can't be reused is recycled only through various stateside companies that specialize in careful reclamation of valuable metals in electronics.  There are no shipments of toxic material sent overseas for small children to sort through in third world nations.

But let's get back to the reuse topic.

Most people don't actually need the most up to date computer equipment.  3R's retail shop features anything from complete systems to various parts for more hardcore computer users.  Sure, you might not run across the latest quad-core processors, but if you're just checking your email and looking at youtube videos of hilarious kitties performing wacky hijinks, a Pentium 4 will suit you just fine and save you a lot of money.

When I left 3R at the end of summer 2007, I bought a few recycled items myself, including a Toshiba tablet notebook and an entire desktop PC.  I have used both items extensively in the time since then and neither have given me any trouble at all.  The desktop was assembled entirely of recycled parts (not including the second hard drive I eventually put in) and has been my most reliable computer I've ever owned.  The Toshiba still runs well, though as a Pentium III, it's starting to hit the wall for today's internet applications and whatnot.  The reliability of these computers has been outstanding.

This is a great company with a friendly staff.  I always made a point of stopping by whenever I was in Seattle after I left the company and suggest you check them out whether you need a spare PC or need to recycle some electronic goods of your own.

They're also a good place to go if you want to buy used computer equipment. They've got a small warehouse of desktops, laptops, servers, routers, switches, printers, hard drives, network cards, cables, power surges, etc.

The prices are pretty good. There's a 2 week warranty on computers. I bought an older HP desktop to use as a Linux firewall/router for $70. It came with 1GB of RAM, a 2.6GHz CPU and a 40GB hard drive. I've had it up and running for about 3 weeks with no problems.

The inventory just depends on what they can find, so if you're looking for something specific you should probably call ahead.

They're right off the a bus line, and not too far from the light rail. The entrance is on the east side of building.

I had an old computer that was so crappy I was embarrassed to give it to even Good Will. Not wanting to just throw it away, I was in search of a place to recycle it. 3R Technology to the rescue! They not only recycled my computer/monitor for free, they even took a whole slew of dead batteries and disposed of them in a safe environmentally friendly way.

Another pet peeve of mine is throwing away Styrofoam. What a waste! Instead of filling up your garbage can with it, bring Styrofoam to 3R and they can reuse it! Reduce-Reuse-Recycle!

I found this place looking for used overhead projectors for art projects on Craigslist.  It was a bit hard to find but when I parked and went up to the building there was already a sign telling me that this company was on the other side of the building, and parking was fine (and free!) there.  It's very industrial looking and not a welcoming retail store, but it was still easy to get to.  Everyone, and I mean everyone I saw was super friendly (in a genuine way) and nice--from the guy loading inventory from a truck to the guys in the warehouse and the guy behind the desk.  They had my projector on hold since I had emailed them about it earlier that day (and got very timely replies) and were happy to show me around the rest of the place.  There is a ton of stuff (refurbished electronics) all  there and it actually seems like a way cool place to just go look around and shop at, whether you have anything in mind or not!  Everything was in great condition and some of the stuff didn't seem like it had ever even been used.

Superior customer service and their massive stock at good prices make me comfortable to say this place rocks!!

This place ROCKs! I've gotten great deals on so many random things (mac keyboards, mouse, etc) and the people who work there are so nice, helpful and polite. If you need something specific you can just call them to see if they have it available.

i wish i had better things to say for this company but my particular experience was very poor. all i was looking for was a small laptop i could travel with for email useage...it would be hardly used and mainly sitting in its case...nothing spectacular just a simple machine.
in april 2011 i purchased one of their used dell laptop 410's for $199 and had issues with the finger mouse not functioning properly after 1 week.
i returned it that week and they replaced it with another dell that had a lower asking price but would not refund the difference. i was fine with that.
after 2 weeks of owning the 2nd laptop it was not working properly and i returned it. was told i would have to pay $50 for another dell which had the same asking price of $199. i paid the $50 on my visa and walked out the door hoping i would have a decent machine.
the new to me laptop never worked properly and had various problems especially with the wireless connection not always functioning properly. i realized they don't know anything about the used products they are selling.
fast forward to 9/3/2011... the wireless function is not working at all and the laptop is turning itself off...i have hardly used this machine.
when i phoned the company, i spoke to the manager who's name i believe is john and is fully aware of my issues with the other laptops i purchased. his answer was sorry but theres only a 30 day warrranty. when i asked if he could give me some sort of credit toward another laptop....his answer was no.
i must have been insane to even think of doing more business with these people but i thought they would understand the situation and offer some help.
so if you enjoy buying used junk that they really know nothing about feel free to give them your business.

We've been accumulating dead electronics in our garage for a couple of years now.  It started to get out of control and so we finally decided we needed to take everything somewhere to be recycled.  When I've done this in the past I always had to pay a fee, and many places would only take computer equipment.  We had 3 boom boxes, an air purifier, a space heater, 4 dvd players, a clock radio, a hard drive, a digital camera, a toaster, a couple of keyboards, a cell phone, an office phone system, various mice and remote controls, and a huge television, none of which were in working condition, except maybe the cell phone.  I found 3r online and we just dropped off everything mentioned above, and we were only charged $13!  The only things they couldn't take were a couple of lamps.  The guys that worked there were super nice and cheerful.  It was so easy...this is a really great service at super prices.  Highly recommended!  They also sell a lot of used and refurbished equipment for really low prices.  Thanks 3R!
