The first diner I ever visited in NYC. Which makes it kind of special to me :)

The food's a little pricey, but most of the portions are pretty huge,. I can't remember a time when I managed to finish the pancakes without the help of at least one other person. Service is kind of stand-offish; either your server ignores you or he keeps coming back every 30 seconds to ask you what you want or if you want any more of what you just got.

Food's always good, though, and that's the important bit.

Based on the previous reviews, I'm beginning to wonder if we all went to the same place...

I HATED IT.

I watched my server put his fingers in my food and when I called him on it, he said" it was only my thumb"!!

Only your thumb??

Add to that the overcooked/BURNT omelet and soggy hash browns and this place gets a definite NO.

This wasn't even late at night. It was early evening!!

NEVER AGAIN.

Long time establishment which has reached landmark status. Remodeled years ago, they no longer have that 'cozy' feel of worn down diner booths. Instead, there is a more modern 'Johnny Rockets' feel to it. Burgers look/taste hefty and you definitely leave full. Be sure to bring a friend and pushcart with you unless you don't mind waddling out the door like a penguin after a gargantuan meal like this.

It's a diner, it's on Broadway off of 8th street, it has been there as long as I can remember. So yes of course the food is a little pricey  I mean really we're paying for rent on most of these places anyway.

The food on the other hand is delicious and well...by food I mean burgers...oh em gee soo yummy. The belgian waffles are also delicious, the fries are alright.

The service...I can't complain because I've seen most of the same servers there forever! They get the job done.

Over all I would recommend it, it's a good experience and a yummy burger

say what you will about my "palate", but to me, diner food is as good as it gets. if you're a food snob, why the hell are you reading a review of a diner anyway?

so while working and going to school in the area, this place was my JAM. from the split pea soup, which kicked my ass, to the delicious grilled cheese (cheeses?) and milkshakes, this is no ordinary diner. i never waited for a table and the service was always efficient and friendly. grab a newspaper and sit at the counter or get a booth and relax.

A+!!

The famous Cozy Soup & Burger, I really need to give this place the review it deserves. The problem with "New Yorkers" is that we have high standards, even for the regular "Diner". However Cozy is no regular Diner, the food here is awesome, specifically - their Soup and Burgers, the Split Pea is delish, and the burgers are perfect, i can barely tell them apart from the Jackson Hole, my favorite NYC burger joint.

Service: It is a NYC diner - what do you want White glove service? Fuhgettaboutit! Order your food, eat and get out, the prices are NOT high for Broadway and 8th Street. my group of 5 just ate there for 10 bucks each, so i do not know what some reviewers are crying about in regards to the prices - this is Manhattan, and one of the city's highest priced nabes. They make money from table turn over, just raise your hand, get any waiters attention and you get helped. I have NEVER had a service issue here, I think it is quite good for an almost perpetually PACKED diner.

Food: Diner fare, 24 hour breakfast, Awesome Burgers, great Chocolate chip Pancakes, Motza Ball Soup, Split Pea Soup, fries  - HUGE REAL Onion Rings!!! Big steak fries, yummy cole slaw, big dill pickles - americana gourmet! lol

Celebrities: Tons of NY's best local celebs eat here, I just saw Rachel Dratch (SNL) there, I love her. This diner was also in Big Daddy I believe...

Summary: Want good, fast, fresh food? A NYC experience? Top notch NYC Diner fare - go here. If you want white glove service and cheap food, from a Manhattan Diner - move.

I've heard good things about this place. Let's be honest, its a diner.

I had the Texas burger.  It was really big, and surprisingly good.  Fries were decent. Should have tried the soup.

Service was pretty good - actually wished the guy would have left us alone.  Kind of pricey for greasy diner food.

I go here every so often, mainly because its near me and it's 24 hours.

Yeah, the service here is spotty, but it's charming in a cliche-new-york-diner-in-a-movie way. It's hard to understand the waiters sometimes but the food always comes out fast.

Burgers are huge. A little too big for my taste. Love the fries. Love the sandwhiches, though the ruben was a bit of overkill in my opinion. Other than that, not bad.

After a long afternoon of walking around trying to find a perfect place to sit, drink a coffee and write and failing, Cozy Soup & Burger was the perfect discovery.

I had been thinking about soup since the weather turned colder and was, at the time we saw the large neon signs in the distance, talking about burgers.

And Cozy delivered.

A lot of the reviews on here mentioned the price as a negative.  Log out of Yelp and sign up for a new account for a different city.  This city is expensive if you want something with a little bit of quality.

As for service, the place was packed and there were no problems at all.

As for the food, it was a terrific burger (you never go wrong by ordering anything named after the place you are eating it in) and a memorable bowl of French Onion soup.  All of this paired with a Brooklyn Lager had me ready to head home after a long day of exploring.

Anyone know if a good coffee shop to spread out some papers and a laptop and do some work?  In return, I can suggest this awesome 24hr diner...

It's a diner. An overpriced diner. And their service sucks.  Their milkshakes aren't even that good. They have kind of a plasticy texture to them. That's gross.

Curly fries though? Delicious.  Not so delicious? dropping $40 on a meal that costs you like $25 everywhere else.

The food is super greasy too. More greasy than most diner fare.  Boo, I hate you Cozy. My friends always want to eat at you but you are dumb and expensive.

THE BEST SPLIT PEA SOUP I'VE EVER HAD. It's thick, and mushy with big giant croutons that could sit in the soup for hours without either sinking or turning soggy--what every crouton should aspire too! The soup not only tastes great, if feels great -- especially on a really cold day when your bones are chilling and you're cursing mother nature and reconsidering the merits of global warming.

The burgers are too big and overrated. I've had them a dozen times or so -- a glutton for punishment, I know -- and I'm always left thinking why do I trust my eyes instead of my tummy (note to tummy: speak up BEFORE not AFTER).

I had a burger here.  It was massive and juicy.  I also had a conversation here with three friends.  But it was cut short.  Our waiter was a douchebag.  I guess you do get your bang for your buck somewhat, they give you a lot of food and you're paying for it.  But having a staff at a diner that gives you looks as if to say, "Get the fuck out of my establishment," for trying to have a decent conversation, simply isn't a place that I need to return to.

So I don't expect much from a 24hr diner at 4:30 in the morning, but I do expect water and coffee on the table before the food gets there. The coffee eventually arrived AFTER we finished the food, but it tasted as if it was sitting on the hot plate for too long.  And the food, seriously, it's pretty hard to screw up an egg, but nonetheless my omelet came burnt.  I originally ordered the ranchero omelet, but with the help of Lynn's keenness, I found out that they had no jalepeno peppers. Blasphemy!

Reading the other reviews here, I just might give this place another chance. But definitely not at 4am.

I have been coming here for years on end. Before it was renovated a few years ago, this was a dive of a diner, which was always packed at 2am on a saturday night. But man oh man, those cheeseburgers.

I love that its not really patties but rather gobs of meat pressed down on a roll. And when i want it well done, by golly it comes back to me well done. Burnt to a crisp? You bet your sweet onions they are.

Now, this is a very respectable diner. Even more crowded than it used to be. But its still got the great crack wait staff, and these are characters boy. You should've heard them last year, during the World Cup.

Hmmmmmmm big greasy burger.
Hmmmmmmm cozy.

The overall grease of the place infects all your senses.
The onion rings are better than the fries which is odd to me.

Stop here if your done shopping cause your going to want a bed after this meal.

Yuck.  I have now been here three times, twice for breakfast and once around 11 PM, and all three times, the food was bad, the prices were pretty high, the service was sitcom-worthy, and I found myself wondering what on earth  I was doing there.  This morning, I sent back water.  Yes, water.  It tasted burnt and metallic.  Replacement water--same thing.  Don't order water.

I won't lie.  I didn't have a burger.  If you're into burgers, I can't tell you not to come here, since it seems that if you're a burger fan, this is a good place.  I can tell you, though, that breakfast, despite "39 ways to serve omelettes", is something they haven't mastered.  Eggs are watery, cheese tastes fake and bland, toast comes ice cold and the sausage is tasteless.  The coffee is fine.  I also can't recomend the Reuben, despite its being large.  It was as bland as tasteless and everything else I have ordered there, and the legendary soup was just green, no taste.

The servers are career diner waiters...warts and all.  Maybe you'll get the religious guy late at night who talks about Jesus.  Maybe you'll get the guy who talks to himself.  And maybe you'll be lucky enough to listen to a group of bulemic NYU undergrads sharing french fries before they go vomit.  Yes, that happened.

I mean, the name really says it all.  I associate this place with getting caught in the rain as I think on multiple occasions I've happened to be around here when the heavens open and I duck in for shelter.  I can't say I've partaken of the soup, but the burgers are really something.  A step above your average diner burger, which is I guess why it's a bit more expensive than your average diner.  I suppose if I lived around here, i.e., were this my neighborhood diner, the prices would bother me, but they don't.  Stop in for a burger in the rain.  You'll feel cozy all right.

Also, the guys who work here are a total trip.  Just sit back and listen to them for a while - you're guaranteed a good chuckle.

'Cozy' is a loaded term when it comes to sales.  A salesperson (say a real estate agent) describes something as 'Cozy' and you know they're charging you more than they should with some BS subjective justification.

Same goes for Cozy Soup & Burger.  It's nice but you're paying more than you should for what you're getting.

It's your standard greasy spoon/diner with a better than average diner burger.  It's about 9 oz., impressively juicy, they'll cook it medium rare throughout, the burger doesn't break like tectonic plates, and the bun holds its own.  But they charge a $1-2 higher than normal ($8.95) and making it 'deluxe' was $1-$2 higher too so you're about $4 over what you should be paying.

The soup is okay.  I've tried the vegetable barley but not really big enough or high quality enough to be worth the $3.50 tag.

The grilled cheese is $5.50 (add $.50 with tomato, $1 with bacon) which is fine except it's small and doesn't come w/ fries.  WTF?  In both size and value, Silver Spurs is better.

So I'll give it 3 stars but be prepared to pay 4 star prices.  Just glad there isn't a Quaint Sandwich Shop and a Fixer-Upper Cafe nearby....

My favorite thing to eat for lunch is a well done grilled chicken salad.  Yes, boring, but so good.

Cozy while not having this on their menu and even though they are always confused when I order it - the salad is fantastic.  I don't know how to explain it.  I think because they use onions and I love onions or because of the lettuce or because..who knows.  A grilled chicken salad is a grilled chicken salad, but they make it well.  It's steep at $13, but well worth it.

Not bad considering I came here at three am just for fries. I ordered take out and it was done rather quickly. It's not amazingly cheap, but not expensive either considering it's the Village. I'm sure I could've gotten cheaper food in Astoria...but, I didn't feel like waiting.

The burgers and sandwiches looked tasty, but I did not try them. Considering I was there late night, it was pretty busy with patrons and the staff seemed friendly and dished out witty comments here and there.

Good food, small but cozy dining setting. I don't think I would come here with a big group since the tables look a bit small. But for small gathering for friend (four, five or even six people maximum) it seems like a nice spot.

i don't even like burgers.
i like ruebens.
i like boys named Miguel.
my server's name was Miguel and he recommended i get the rueben.
what a coinky-dink!
however, i was curious... why would Adam Sandler, Chris Tucker, and Jackie Chan write all over their posters telling customers to try their California Burgers? so... i looked at their menu and out of the 25 different varieties of burgers- i ended up with the basic Cheeseburger.

honestly? it was the juiciest, biggest, delectable piece of meat i've had in my mouth in a long time. hahahaha. that's what SHE said. =)

One of my favorite places to grab a burger. A little pricey for what it is, however everytime I eat there I am literally full for the next day. Their burgers are huge and delicious and they have curly fries. Their menu has something for everyone- soups, breakfast, salads, sandwiches and they are open 24 hours. Milkshakes are delicious too.

Used to go here all the time first two years at NYU, haven't been back often since. Great for breakfast or a burger, a dollar or two more expensive than the norm, its 24/7, doesn't ever really disappoint, and at least the omelettes are very large. They have steak fries, always a good thing. The soups are decent and typical fare. A lot of 18 year old idiots go here after doing the "I'm going to walk around freshman square and watch everybody else have fun getting drunk stumbling out of Off the Wagon" because they have nothing better to do and can't figure out how to sneak booze into Weinstein. Hey its what I did.

TOO EXPENSIVE.

hearing stories from my sister during her poor college days, when i finally passed this diner, for the millionth time, i thought i would give it a try. she remembers it as a good cheap eat with a manager/owner that was alway friendly and remembered her and her friend.

they must have changed owners/management since then. i got to try it out for brunch, its too expensive and i remember my bacon being really old and probably just kept/reheated under a hot lamp. gross and not satisfying.
last time i went, i didnt order and just enjoyed my friends company. and at the end of it, they had to figure out how to pay a ridiculous bill.
i feel this is a last resort

When you go to a place, and they're named after items on their menu, it might be a good idea to order those items. How can you not go to a place called Soup & Burger and try the soup and burger? Similarly, if there's an item on the menu named after the restaurant at which you're eating -- say, the Cozy Burger -- how can you not try it?

Needless to say, I had a cup of soup and the Cozy Burger. The soups of the day included Manhattan clam chowder, and while I prefer New England clam chowder, I gave it a go -- reminding myself why I prefer New England. Oh, it was good -- and worth trying -- but I just like New England better.

I also had the Cozy Burger -- deluxe -- which comes with mushrooms (canned, eh) and grilled onions. The deluxe comes with a side of French fries and lettuce and tomato, but the burger is so big that adding lettuce and tomato to the pile made it too tall to bite into. So I went sans the green and red. C. tried the California burger, which came with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise -- just like they make it at the diner near where I live.

The burgers were good -- on the large side, so it's a lot of food -- and I decided that the mushrooms and onion weren't needed. They didn't really add any flavor or texture, and with the soup and the fries, I was hard pressed to finish my meal. They tend to cook their burgers on the well done side, regardless of how you ask for it, so if you like your meat a little redder, be sure to be strong in your request.

I asked our waiter how many burgers they server in any given day. He didn't know -- hundreds? Thousands? -- but he said they served a lot. They also serve a lot of grilled chicken, Greek salad, and spinach pie, so you might consider trying one of the other patrons' favorites.

Their Coke was wonderful: fountain Coke, syrupy and slightly flat, just the way I like it.

A classic standby.

I'd say that cozy's is a pretty typical diner... except for one thing: HUGE ASS BURGERS. theyre good, yes, but you can probably divide the burger amongst 4 people and still be pretty freakin full. I have finished a whole burger once in my lifetime and I didn't feel hungry again for like 3 days. if you like burgers - a lot - come here.

This is your standard diner which has everything you need and they have record delivery times (not Chinese food delivery times) of 15 minutes or less.  Use this for your standard egg dishes and sandwiches.  Don't be tempted by the "gourmet" food - it is NOT gourmet.  If you decide to eat in, don't be thrown off by the fact that your food will be on your table within 5 minutes.  Don't be scared it was cooked for you - they just have cooks in the back that know the menu well and know how to prepare it in record time.

Great breakfast joint. Their Belgian waffles are impressive, but what I most admire them for is their free (well, included at least) real maple syrup. Wish more restaurants would take a page from Cozy's playbook.

Too expensive! Too expensive too expensive too expensive.  Now that I've found other diners in the same area (see: Moonstruck on 5th and 2nd), I can't ever go back to Cozy.  The food was good, but I can pay like $2 less somewhere else, which is really what you want when you're going for all-night diner food.  Also, I've overheard a lot of really obnoxious NYU student conversations while in here, and that sort of thing puts me off my dinner.

A good 24 diner. I believe the selection here is better than Washington Sq. Diner (4 Stars). For awhile, I avoided the burgers since I always seem to get that or French Toast anywhere else. One night, I decided to give a burger a try, and it was surprisingly good. I used to get the quesadilla, but it never hit the spot. I may just make this a burger/French Toast diner as well.

Oh, saw Adam Sandler here one night. Seems typical, since this place was featured in Big Daddy.

the prices were pretty high for a diner but the portions were huuuuge so i guess that makes up for it. big juicy fresh burger = happy goodness. service could have been a little nicer but it wasn't terrible. they're only really there to take your order, bring you food and then take your money... nothing more, nothing less. recommend to anyone with a BIG appetite.

Burgers are so good, open 24 hours, and Stella on tap.  My boyfriend and I are always trying to go to new places, but somehow always end up back at Soup & Burger.
