I really enjoyed this very cozy restaurant. They had a small restaurant feel to it with all the tables very close to each other and the added pillows in the backs of the seating area made it feel like home.

I had ordered the grilled chicken salad which was very tasty with bleu cheese, cranberries, caramelized nuts and a grilled chicken breast. The vinaigrette dressing was just perfect with not too much or too less, but just the right amount for the salad.

My gf and I both had Mimosa's which really made this feel like a French restaurant. They also had a few different flavors to choose from if you're so inclined. It complemented our meals for the lunch we had.

The service was terrific and they checked up us quite a few times during our meal. I would recommend this place if you are ever in the Fremont neighborhood.

Underwhelmed during 2012 Spring Dine Around visit - kitchen ran out of both starter/entree I was interested in (tarte flambee and pan fried trout), which defeated the purpose for coming.

(3.3-star) Maple salad with dried tart cherries, fromage blanc, dressed w/almond praline and maple vinaigrette was simple and interesting - have never had a salad dressed w/maple, but it was quite good and very fresh.

(2.8-star) Steak Au Poivre (peppercorn crusted Painted Hills sirloin) served with farro, roquefort, shallot & red wine reduction - the peppercorns were overpowering, quality of steak was average, nothing to rave about. The farro was rather undercooked, so left this untouched.

(3.4 star) Bourbon Pecan Bread Pudding - good ending to an otherwise average/underwhelming meal.

Ambiance is casual/intimate with simple/modern decor. Service is pleasant. Bistro feels tucked away.

3 for 30 * Dine out Seattle, and yes you get big BANGS for your buck! In quality as well as quantity. Not your typical.. Large plate with puny servings. I was very full, and very happy at the end of my meal.

Split with my other friends, we were able to sample everything on the 3 for 30 menu, and I was not disappointed. On top of that, their simple menu had surf and turf, and chicken!! hehe Chicken is hard to do, but 35th did not disappoint. Chicken was tender and flavorful. I had the steak which was peppered and grilled on the outside so that it was a bit charred, but very rouge and cuts nicely in the middle. All the side salads and healthy carbs were presented nicely, and goes very well with the main.

I think 35th Bistro is one of those restaurants that understands how 3 for 30 works. Give your customers a great meal, and we will come frolicking back. I can't wait to return to this cute lil gem in dt fremont :)

PS: Service was superb. Friendly, helpful and quick. They even folded my napkin when I stepped into the loo. How posh.

Went here for Dine in Seattle and I've been missing out! I give this place a 10 or in this case, 5 stars.

    Appetizer: Maple Salad
Mixed greens, sweetened almonds( or was it pecans?), tart cherries, blue cheese crumbles, and maple vinaigrette.
Score: 5/5! This salad got me excited for what I was going to get next. The salad was well-mixed. Each bite, you can taste the dressing, the cherries, and the blue cheese from the first bite to the last piece of greens in the bowl. The blue cheese and the maple vinaigrette was a good balance. I think I am going to make a second visit just for this salad.

    Entree: Pan Fried Trout
Herb-crusted trout with veggies over black rice. Not much of a description huh? But it was great.
Score: 5/5. While I was eating this, I thought too myself, "Whoa, this looks and taste healthy". Haha, I am not sure how healthy it is and I can't think of much to describe the dish but I did finish the dish...every piece of rice and veggies. Does that tell you something?

Dessert: Spiced Chocolate Pot de Crème
Basically, chocolate mousse and whipped cream with 3 cute pieces of shortbread.
Score: 5/5. The chocolate wasn't too sweet and you can actually taste the spice. It's not a strong spice and you don't notice it right away. It kind of builds up as you eat more of the dessert. A neat surprise!

This place was a big hit for me. And I have to say that by the end of dinner, I wanted the maple salad again.

The tasting menu is the way to go.  I had the Maple Salad and it was yummy.  It was lightly dressed and was a great balance of sweet and savory.  My trout and lentils were over salted.  That would be my only complaint with the restaurant.  For dessert I got the Pot de Creme.  I loved it!  It had a subtle spiciness to it.  My dining companions ordered the French Onion Soup, steak, and bread pudding.  They were all very happy with their dishes.  I'd go back, but would order something other than the trout.

Date night has been long overdue, and last Saturday was finally the day!

I came here with a coworker last November for a Dine Around Seattle lunch and was impressed enough to want to spend a little one-on-one time here with the hubby.  We came for dinner, and it was everything we could ask for... a (free) parking spot right in front of the restaurant at 6pm, a leisurely, romantic meal in a dimly-lit room with great ambiance, GREAT conversation that did not involve toddler interruptions, timely but unobtrusive service, and a delicious meal with a bottle (gasp! YAY!) of wine.  We left happy and reconnected and even headed to Pie to pick up a little treat to take back for the bebe and her grandparents/sitters (thanks mom and dad!) at home!  Fremont, how I have missed you...

We both ordered the Prix Fixe with a substitution on dessert for me.
Me: Roquefort salad, Trout Amandine, and beignets for dessert (they charged me the difference)
Hubby: Tarte Flambe, Steak Frites, Espresso Creme Brulee.

Everything was good.. then again we were giddy to be out and the (bouiteille of..) wine was kicking in, but a few items really stood out:
-- My Trout Amandine, which is going to haunt me until I learn how to make it myself.  Hubby couldn't keep himself away from my plate.
-- Beignets (um, hubby -- glance around the restaurant-- how impolite would it be to lick the salted caramel sauce OUT of the bowl!?!? Nuff said.)

Hubby really liked the tarte flambe, I had a bite and thought it was nothing special.  I tried his creme brulee and it wasn't too coffee-y (I am a bona-fida Seattleite who can't stand the smell, taste or look of coffee), but we were too busy laying into the beignets to bother much with it.

All in all, a great meal and I would highly recommend 35SB!

I've worked in Fremont for years and can't believe I've missed out on trying this place until recently.  I'm glad I was able to experience delicious and beautifully presented French cooking at a very reasonable price.

35th Bistro seems to fit well in the neighborhood of Fremont, along with all those little, quaint shops and non-franchise type of restaurants.  It's nestled in between a couple of those fine establishments, not too far from the big, bad Troll.

The atmosphere is very nice.  It was a casual place but I felt a little sophisticated with the impeccable service, the dinnerware, and the well-mannered clientele.  If that won't impress you, the food certainly will.

I was lucky enough to try the delicious 3-course meal for lunch for only $15!!!!  It was definitely a steal.  For starters I ordered the pork rillette, (reminded me of liver terrine).  It was served on a wooden cutting board with cornichons, pickled onion, and a grainy mustard.  It was an awesome beginning to my meal.  Next was my main course of Manila steamed mussels served in a white wine sauce.  Wow, these were undoubtedly the best mussels I've ever tried.  They were unbelievably smooth and basically melted in my mouth.  I hardly had to chew.  I downed those bivalves like there was no tomorrow.  Lastly, I finished off my meal with a warm berry crisp dessert.  It was so delicious and I was thoroughly satisfied.

On top of it all, the service was wonderful.  My party was properly served throughout the duration of our meal.  We were never without drinks or had to ever wave down our waitress.  Superb job to the service.

Yes, this place is awesome.  Yes, the food and service are awesome.  Yes, I do recommend going there.  And yes, I will be back to try out the dinner.  I now have much more respect for French food, especially if it's from 35th Street Bistro.  Later.

Fremont is one of my fav neighborhoods in Seattle and has a lot of great places to choose from. This place fits in well with the area vibe. Went there for brunch and started off with a bloody mary. This was okay, a bit on the small side size-wise and lacked any special character to set it apart. Pretty run of the mill, I'd say. Had the macaroni and cheese appetizer which was great -- perfectly and delectably cheesy. My one request would be more salt, but that's just me.

One of my friends had the chicken pot pie -- you just don't see such a perfectly flaky crust. The dish was a hit. My other friend had the eggs benedict which looked fantastic. I had the mussels and fries which were fantastic. The mussels were perfectly cooked and extra large. The broth was nice but I'd suggest they serve a few pieces of bread as part of the dish to soak up the broth. Nonetheless, bread can always be ordered as an extra.

The fries weren't skinny, but were nicely crisped and doubled fried, and were served with a lovely aioli.

Lastly, we had the bourbon pecan bread pudding. They had me at bourbon. This was lick-the-plate good.

Their portions are very generous, their wine selection is good, and their menu has so many yummy selections. I would definitely eat here again. It's a classy but comfortable interior and the service is excellent.

    Went there for Sunday brunch.
loved the ambience.. beautiful bistro with floor to ceiling windows and lots of natural light coming in. They have a tree int he center that looks fantastic.
Our server was great, and very helpful
We ordered the chicken pot pie, which was average, but was strongly recommended.
We also ordered the Tartine of the Day - was amazing and it came with a cup of soup and a side salad.
    will definitely go there again.
The prices were not bad too.

35th St has a fantastic happy hour menu, but it is only offered in their bar, which is tiny, so be warned.

We samples the macaroni, a food item that this city has raised to a cult classic, and it was a combination of creamy cheesy goodness that did not disappoint. We added to that the Pork rilette (ok, but not a ton of flavor), and the Croque Monsieur Sliders (ham on brioche, fantastic), but what I would really go back for was the 35th street collins (Gin, Muddled Fresh Fruit, Lime, Soda), which was made with watermelon on this day. It was absolutely the most refreshing drink I've ever ordered at a Seattle bar.

I'm looking forward to returning to try their winter menu items and specialty drinks.

Aah yes, another item on "the list" that must be tested.  So far, I'm about 70% through the list.  I have to say that the list is about 2/3 legit.

We ventured over here for the French toast to complete this list item.  I have to say that was a stellar French toast!  It comes with some mascarpone and jam, and the flavors complement each other quite nicely.  It was a beautiful dish, and it's certainly earned its place on the list!

I was somewhat surprised to see 2 French toasts on the list -- this one and Cafe Nola.  Both are absolutely wonderful French toasts, and the one here at 35th street bistro is certainly easier to get to.  I've tried a LOT of French toasts around town, and this place is one of my favorites.  I don't like a lot of breakfast foods, so usually French toast is my "fall back" breakfast item.  I'm very glad that Seattle is so accomodating in this regard :)

I had the Reuben, and it was tasty too.  It still doesn't meet my "perfect Reuben" stance, but it was better than most I've had in Seattle.

    Service was very friendly.

35th Street Bistro is a fabulous, and casual European-type bistro, with Spanish, Italian, French and Greek cuisine options.  This hidden treasure is located out of the normal Fremont bustle, which gives it its own personality and uniqueness.

The atmosphere is very cozy with intimate tables, comfy benches along the wall-to-wall window and even a gated bar within the restaurant.  It really does feel like you're in Europe (although I've never been). :)

I came here for lunch with my coworkers and first off, make a reservation!  There aren't very many tables in the restaurant and seats fill up quickly!  We were taking advantage of their "Seattle Restaurant Week" $15 lunch special, but honestly, everything on the menu looked so good that I ended up getting their Bistro Sandwich.  SO tasty and their fries (or frities) are crunch and delicious!  Also on the menu are mussels (which are HUGE!), pot pies, quiches, soups, salads, croque madame (one of my favs), burgers, mac n cheese and more!  We also ordered the homemade Beignets---OMG so good!

I would recommend this place for a casual luncheon or intimate dinner.  It's the perfect size, perfect setting, and you won't be disappointed!

Often I find Seattle eateries just too cute, overly gentrified, obnoxiously precious, painfully dainty, and mauve obtuse.

And so the 35th bistro fits right in.

However  the food , simple, straight forward, also happens to be remarkable. The French inspired dishes are not too heavy and nearly every dish I've had shines with inspired brilliance, including the braised salmon.

The tarte flambe' is a frommage orgasmic delight.

If this place were a human face, it would have the cutest dimples.

This easily should be a five star review. The food was lovely. But the service dropped the ball. The waiter didn't come back for way too long. A four top and a two top on either side of us, that were seated and ordered after us, that ordered the same food as us, both finished and left before us. Service to their tables never stopped, but our main course plates languished, as did we.

The trout and the croque madame were excellent. The frecnch toast was underwhelming. We were a little disappointed that they were out of the quiche and the breakfast tartes 45 minutes after they opened for brunch. Seems like they would be more well stocked in their two most popular items. In any case, the ambiance was great, everyone liked the food, and I will definitely be going back!

Had dinner here for Seattle Restaurant Week:
    Tarte Flambé
(French "pizza" with caramelized onions, bacon & gruyere)
    Trout Amandine
(herb crusted pan-roasted trout with haricots verts, roasted tomato quinoa, toasted almonds & beurre noisette)
    Fruit Crisp
(Daily preparation served warm with vanilla ice cream)

The appetizer and entree were very good and the service was very attentive but not without flaws.    The desert on the other hand was a "hot mess" in every sense.    It had overflowed during the baking process so the off white ramekin was purple and sticky from the overflow of blackberry juice.  The "crisp" topping was no where to be found and the "scoop of vanilla ice cream"    had COMPLETELY melted into the ramekin.   It was more like scalding hot blackberry soup with melted vanilla ice cream on top.
It wasn't until I saw other tables receive the same desert that I realized that I really should NOT have been served that mess of a "desert".
I'm surprised that the server brought out the dish in the first place.
I guess she was in a hurry.     Since it was my first time here and it ended on a disappointing note, I doubt that I would return.

After a month inside with baby on maternity leave I was itching to get out for a romantic dinner with my hubby, and I was so happy to have picked this place. The ambiance is fantastic. It brought back many fond memories of my trips to the Mediterranean coast, having late night dinners at the various bistros in the coastal cities of Italy and France. The white christmas lights, coffeehouse music, and mellow mood lighting was perfect for sipping a glass of wine and having good conversation without it being too loud.

Now onto the food - I'm not too fond of French food and its typical duck, rabbit, and liver mousse options but 35th bistro isn't the typical French bistro. The menu had a variety of options that I think anyone would love.  We decided to have the 3 course dinner for $30 and added the wine flight option for $25 that paired each dish with a different type of wine. We loved the French pizza, cream of mushroom soup, steak with pomme frites and the pecan bread pudding!

The reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the price is a little high for the type of wines you get, but I did take a peak at their happy hour menu, and it's a really great deal. This is definitely a place I will be going back to over and over again.

    Delicious brunch!!!

Went on a sunny Sunday for brunch. We were seated under the tree. It was a cute restaurant that reminded me of France.

I had Eggs Benedict with prosciutto. It came with a light and fresh side salad and nicely seasoned potato. The prosciutto were a bit salty, and there was a lot of it. I had some of them with my salad and potato, and it was good. My friend had the mussels that were steamed with white wine, garlic, and chili flake and served with skinny fries. Very fresh and mouth watering mussels. Yum yum. I like the fact that they use fresh and local ingredients that are sustainable. Every restaurant should do that!

Our waiters were warm and attentive, though they forgot the lemon wedges we asked for three separate times. For that I should probably give them 4 stars. But the food was really good on a nice Sunday afternoon, and it was a good dining experience after all. So I'm giving it 5 stars instead.

I would totally go back all the time if I lived closer to Fremont.

After utter disgust with Pelmeni, I needed hunger relief and PRONTO!
Yelped up 35th Street Bristro and walked a block down the street.

The hostess was able to squeeze us in as there was one open table.  The setting was warm and inviting and we went straight to ordering.  I ordered the 3 for $30 Prix Fixe Dinner while the better half ordered the full order of "Les Moules et Les Polourdes Mariniiére" (a.k.a.  Local Mediterranean mussels).

Began with the bread basket.  A variety of breads were offered, notably the one that was most interesting was the extremely thin slice of what looked to be from a raisin loaf.  It was buttery, slightly sweet and crispy,  almost like a chip.  The server explained that the process of making it and it involved cutting the bread with a meat slicer and baking it with butter!  Like a hog, I requested a few more of these slices to munch on!

The mussels and fries = yummy.  Mussells had a plumpness and no chewiness that result from dry and overcooked shellfish.  The white wine, garlick and chili flakes used in their sauce coupled well with the mussels.  The golden fries added nicely to this appetizer to help break up the monotony.

The salad choice, Salade de Noix d'Érable, consisted of mixed greens, pear, toasted almonds, craisins, shaved goat cheese and a maple vinaigrette.  I enjoyed the flavors of this mix but I think if they toned down on the salad dressing a bit, it would be pretty as the salad started getting too sweet as you get closer to finishing it.

The entrée, Steak Robert, was an aged sirloin slathered with a sauce of cooked peppercorns, arugula and champagne.  The steak was cooked exactly how I like it, medium but it was not hot and on the cold side.  The sauce defiinitely added a dimension of flavor that improved it.  The roasted fingerling potatoes were nothing to write home about as it was nothing special.  I had to dip those in the ketchup used for the fries to get flavor.

Dessert:  Petit Fruit Croustillant, a small fruit crisp served with vanilla ice cream.  I almost burned my lip and tongue eating the first few bites as it was super hot out of the kitchen.  A bit sweet but the ice cream helped to cut that down.

I enjoyed my time there as a rescue from Pelmeni and I am glad I did.  Total bill = $58 tip included - no alcohol.

I have only been here for lunch (several times), so this review does not address dinner or brunch.

To me, nothing on the menu looks like anything special. However, it's all incredibly delicious. If you can't decide what you want, just pick something--you will probably love it.

Service is generally good, though sometimes awkward, as if the individual is new to waiting tables at a nice-ish restaurant. The space is clean, inviting and bright, with high ceilings and large windows. White linens are a nice touch.

I came here for "Dine Around Seattle" and went with their set 3-course meal. I was extremely satisfied. I ordered the Steak Robert and it was amazing. The meat was very tender and juicy and the roasted French fingerlings it was paired with were so savory! The portion was perfect and left me room to eat dessert...which I must rave about.

So my table all ordered the bread pudding which was pretty good but I decided to go with the cheese plate. My plate consisted of umbriacone and truffle tremor with a side of honey. Both cheeses were AMAZING, especially paired with the honey.

On top of that, I love the ambiance. Quiet and comfortable.

Every few years one finds a restaurant that gets it right, or close enough to right that only a curmudgeon could complain.
Visiting Seattle, we stumbled upon the 35th Street Bistro in the early afternoon and found it near perfect. Entering, we found a space that felt just right--clean, uncluttered, well organized, with (always a good sign) the French 'varietal maps' framed on the wall. The entire place was spotlessly clean and well presented.
The menus (the happy-hour and lunch menus were both offered to us) contained many delightful small dishes--I had the croque monsieur and BLT sliders, but was somewhat surprised that they were served cold, or cool, but they were excellent and, at $3 each, exceptional value. The butter-lettuce/roquerfort salad was right on the money, as was the French onion soup, 100% authentic.
One of our guests had the moules marinieres, and the generous serving of large, succulent clams came in a spicy broth that managed to be light and piquant at the same time, ideal for dunking the bread they served, when the clams ran out. The French chardonnay went down well, a contrast to some of the over-oaky, over-alcoholed California equivalents. Again, the wines offered were great value and the French leaning was appropriate for the restaurant.
We ordered a double serving of frites for the group. They came with a perfect aioli sauce. From the light color, it was clear that they had been prepared in fresh oil (when they come out dark, it means--as most people know--that the oil is getting old).
We all shared the beignets for desert, served with two sauces, caramel and chocolate, and they were as good as any I've ever eaten, including some of the 'world famous' servings in New Orleans.
The service was exceptional, prompt and professional, and I had the chance to speak with the proprietor, a charming young woman, who took time out of her busy day to talk about her place.
I want to go back to try the entire menu but basically our party of six was entirely satisfied and felt the same way. We're visitors to Seattle but they live there and they'll be back, guaranteed. If we lived there we'd be regulars until we achieved the status of what Alfred Hitchock said, when answering the question about what was the best restaurant in town. He responded: "The one where they know you."
Visiting or living locally, you have a gem of a place to visit.

I went here for valentines day and it was pretty good. The ambience was warm and inviting, very unpretentious. The service was amazing-our server even gave us  champagne!

The beet chips were addicting and my steak was perfectly cooked and tender.  The scallops we started with were also very tasty and fresh.

    Desserts were too small!

This is one of my favorite brunch destinations in the Seattle area.

When I first come here, I order a drink right away. Their mimosas are always yummy, but if I'm looking to mix it up, I'll just switch to a Bloody Mary. The drinks are always top notch, and I love that the garnish is overflowing in the Bloody Mary. Just how I like it!

The drinks are the perfect accent to the complementary mini muffins which are brought to the table. These take complimentary bread to the next level, offering a huge variety of goodies to munch on. Once, they were pumpkin muffins with sunflower seeds; another time, delicious chocolate chip muffins. Really, I could munch on these and sip cocktails all day, but then I'd be missing out on some amazing entrees!!

Their brioche french toast ranks among the best french toast I've had. With a bit of syrup it's perfect. But what if you're craving brioche, but don't want the sweet option for brunch? Well, then let me direct you to the Croque Madame!! A delicious ham sandwich with their brioche bread topped with a fried egg. Paired with a nice side salad, it makes the perfect brunch entree.

Now, let me say that there are some entrees that have left me a little disappointed. For example, the Eggs in the Basket entree gets you (for the same cost as the Croque Madame) only *one* piece of brioche, eggs, a mushroom / bacon sauce, and no side salad. I can understand how that entree would be a bit of a let down. So my advice - don't stray from the stars of the menu!! French toast, Croque Madame, and a nice brunchy drink, and you'll be just fine. If you're worried about ordering two entrees, then fear not - the french toast also comes as an appetizer. :)

I had the pleasure of enjoying a quiet brunch here on a recent Sunday.  I made a reservation for the 2 of us but it wasn't necessary as the place was not slammed.  I guess I assume any place that serves breakfast/hangover cures would be crazy busy by midday...  Anyhow, I enjoyed the food & service was friendly.  They didn't rush us to get up & I thought the atmosphere for the place was comfortable.  I want to come back at night & try dinner.  The bar is semi-enclosed with couches and looks like a relaxed spot to have a glass of lillet or something classy.  This place was totally hidden to me and I'm happy I found it.  French food in Fremont.  I like it.

So I promised Leia that I would have breakfast with her this past Saturday.  That deadbeat boyfriend of hers was off galavanting about the galaxy with his gigantic Teen Wolf wannabe friend doing Palpatine knows what, and she was lonely.  Besides, I only get her once every 7,800 weekends due to that worthless judge who proclaimed that just because I destroyed her home world, that made me an unfit father.  What a pile of crap.

Anyhow, the last time I took the ferry over to Nola for French toast, it took my janitorial staff 3 weeks to scrub the seagull droppings off of my helmet, so I elected for something closer this time around.  As such, we headed to Hippieland (or Fremont, if you must) to try no. 76 on the Seattle Foodie 100 (http://apps.facebook.c...) here at the 35th Street Bistro.

Seating was prompt.  The waiter was, um...."fabulous", which is always a pleasant thing for a morning adventure.  He complimented my outfit, but said something about needing to add some flair by accessorizing the clasp of my cloak, but I think he misunderstands how seriously I need to be taken when dealing with my troops.Having a little hummingbird broach keeping my cape up just doesn't go far towards establishing the proper image.

Anyhow, it took roughly the time it takes me to travel 18 parsecs for the waiter to come back to take our order.  I went with the brioche French toast as the list mandates, Leia opted for the reuben.  After spending what seemed like (and probably was) hours outlining my latest plans for enslaving the galaxy, our food finally arrived.  By this point, I was fairly ready to Force Choke someone's ass, seeing as how in a restaurant that was 80% empty, they saw fit to seat us next to a hen club clucking about all their simultaneous pregnancies and how their husbands were so lucky to have women like them who would allow them to spend 3 hours commuting to work every day while they ate at little Bistros on those husband's dimes, talking about how great each of them in their little clique were.

As to the food:  The French toast, it's a revelation.  It's easily the 2nd best French toast in the city.  I needed a moment after taking a bite of that wonderfully constructed dish.  The bread was absolutely perfect, the marscapone complemented it wonderfully, the jam was an infallible pairing with it, and the syrup tied it all together quite well.  As an added bonus, the presentation was flawless, and as any supervillain will tell you, it's all about the presentation.   If there was one complaint I would make about it, there probably should have been some more jam on it, but this is a minor matter of personal taste.    I actually singed my tongue because a piece of the French toast fell onto my iLightsaber, and I tried licking it off.  I thought Apple products were supposed to protect stupid people from themselves?  Anyways, I digress.

Leia's reuben was...acceptable.  There were a number of things working against it.  The meat wasn't piled on high enough, there wasn't enough dressing, and they used a light rye instead of dark.  Still tasty-ish, but definitely room for improvement.

Unfortunately, since it took another 30 or 40 minutes to actually have His Fabulousness bring us the check, I missed my appointment with the Deathray laser installer on the new ship, and ended up late for the matinee showing of The English Patient.  I'm totally not going to be able to contribute at the book club this week, now.  For the ridiculously slow service, I dock this place a point, no matter how fabulous our waiter was.

As such, I give 35th Street Bistro 4 Deathstars, though it probably would have been a 3 if I had ordered the sandwich.

Six words: Pain Perdu Aux Noix de Pécan

I took one bite and literally couldn't stop saying, "Oh my god..." It was almost embarrassing... Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same for the other food items I had.

Great service, decent red wine, and my awesome dessert sets them up for a solid 4. If I were basing it off the appetizer and main dish alone, it would be a 3.

    Location: South Freemont, Seattle

A quaint French bistro located in south Freemont, we stepped in for lunch here. We started with a French onion soup, I ordered a coffee and she had a pomegranate and fresh squeezed orange martini (35th street martini).

The French onion soup was good, not too salty with a thick layer of cheese. However it wasn't hot enough, really only luke warm.

For the entree, we had Croque Madame and the BLTEA sandwich. The "Madame" was amazing, brioche slightly crunchy with beschamel sauce, combined with salted ham. On the side, a large serving of spring greens with a light vinegrette. The BLTEA, not as great. The bread was overly toasted, which kinda ruined the greatness of the egg, bacon and avocado.  The coffee was good but the martini was $10. Pretty steep for a drink at lunch.

Good place that lacks value and you'd do well to stick to their signatures.

First time here and I really liked the setting of this restaurant.  Very much your neighborhood restaurant "feel" to it in the heart of Fremont but slightly more upscale.  Our food was quite good.  The tarte flambee with carmelized onions, bacon and gruyere was a great way to start off the meal.  Served more like a pizza but with a thin, dense pastry crust, it is rich and satisfying.  It is cut into wedges so it is easy to share.  The lamb collar with potatoes and carrots was so comforting and delicious.  The potatoes had a bit of crispiness on their skins and the baby carrots were perfectly cooked, tender but not wilting.  Everything sat in a pool of delicious sauce/jus.  The lamb was quite tender and easily pulled off the bone.  It would be impossible to leave hungry after eating this dish.  For dessert we both chose the Bourbon pecan bread pudding.  Good choice! The flavors of Bourbon with the buttery bread and bits of pecan was delicious.  Sweet and buttery with a perfect amount of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.

Upon entering the hostess greeted me with a friendly smile.  Our server was sweet and professional.  She made sure everything was good and if we needed anything without being overbearing.

A lovely place to enjoy a meal.  I would love to come back when the weather is warmer to enjoy the patio out front!

Came for dine around seattle, 3 for $30, and would definitely return here! The salad and mussels were both good appetizers, the bread was delicious (we asked for more!). I had the chicken for my entree - I'm not sure I've ever had chicken that was so juicy/tender/fall-off-the-bone. It was awesome. The polenta was pretty good, the greens were fine, and the roasted garlic was delicious.

Dessert - fruit tart was way too sweet - needed more ice cream to balance the sweetness out. Another dining companion had the bread pudding w/pecans, and also said it was way too sweet. Fortunately, one of our dining companions ordered the cheese plate, and it was really really really good (he kept raving about how that really made his meal). He ordered a goat and a blue cheese (both recommended by our waitress), both of which truly topped off a very decent meal. Happy to have tried this place.

    Service was wonderful, no complaints.

We were here for brunch (reservations made through OpenTable for points) and ordered two egg benedicts with their housemade sausage, an 'eggs in the basket' (which was recommended with extreme certainty from the waiter), and coffee/tea.

The eggs in the benedict dishes were just barely even cooked. The whites were that gooey opaque color that grosses me out but I was game and kept eating. Not enough hollandaise sauce, I can't even remember the taste of it, there was so little. The side salad and potatoes were nice though.

The eggs in the basket, on the other hand....verrrrry underwhelming. The serving was tiny, one slice of toast (barely thicker than the sliced sandwich bread you buy in the grocery stores). The egg was cooked in the cut-out center of the bread and then the sauce. The taste was right, but Cafe Campagne did it SO MUCH better and it came with frites! But not here, no side salad or potatoes. Just a sad piece of tiny soggy toast.

No one came by after our food was given to us to ask how the food was. Perhaps they could tell my hub was NOT pleased with his eggs in a basket dish. I wonder why it was recommended so strongly when it sucked. I wish my eggs were actually cooked and probably would have admitted they were nearly raw had someone come to ask how everything is.

Somehow this meal was over $20pp (with tip). Not coming back here ever again.

Edited September 2010: owner contacted me in a very nice manner for that I'll add one more star.

Luckily I was a little distracted by the great convo with my girlfriends while at brunch at 35th Street Bistro or else I would have been weeping in my pile of, well, weepy greens. Semi major letdown! I have driven by this place a million times and I was hoping it would be similar to Cafe Campagne downtown. The food was just OK.

Granted, I ordered a salad, but I've had many a remarkable "simple" salads (yes, Rialto and Quinn's, I'm talking to you). The dressing didn't have much flavor, and I can honestly say the bowl the salad was in bothered me. It was like the lettuce didn't have any breathing room and was fighting for air. OK, so I won't hold that against them, that's just me being weird.

Mimosa = delicious but $9, come on? How do I know that isn't Cook's champagne mixed with Safeway brand OJ?

My friend's egg was gloopy and freaked me out.

Just got back from brunch here I have to say that the tarte de petit dejeuner was amazing. I have a strong belief that anything with potatoes has to be a win and I wasn't let down!

The service was nothing to rave about, our server was talking in a whisper which made me feel like I was too loud for the restaurant. The drinks were priced a little steep, $9 for a mimosa?!

Good God, man. The cheese plate (err.. platter, really) here is out of control.

True, I'm not supposed to really eat cheese... and by really, I mean NOT at all... but sometimes you can't help wanting things you just shouldn't have, ie:

That bad egg ex-boyfriend who's really hot.
    A Mark Jacob's handbag.
    Miss Sixty boots.
That bad egg ex-boyfriend who's really hot.

This was one of those evenings and I could not be swayed otherwise.

$15 gets you an amazing spread including generous slabs of seastack, blue, and lots of other great cheeses- sheep and cow (about 6 in all). They come with stone ground mustard, and various accoutrement and they're served up on a gorgeous marble slab that keeps everything chill while you indulge.

If the cheese plate isn't enough (it should be- it's massive) there's also the charcuterie plate, which is equally as delightful.

In short. I recommend the cheese plate, over the ex-boyfriend. Those things never end well...

Maybe if he's buying. Yes, if he's buying, get the cheeseplate, and the boots. And maybe the bag.

    Yes, definitely the bag.

    Sunday morning. Stomachs growling.

I look at my GF.  We nod in agreement.  Don't even have to say a word.
Put our shoes on and beeline it to the door.

Marching down Fremont Ave, repeating in Marine Corps-like cadence:

Croque Madame + Mimosa + Frites,
Croque Madame + Mimosa + Frites,
Croque Madame + Mimosa + Frites...

Frites are perfectly seasoned, with nutty Parmesan in every bite, crème fraîche to cut the salt.  If it were socially acceptable, I would put a funnel to my mouth and have the maître d' cram the delicious Frites down my windpipe.  I can dream can't I?

Been here a number of times for Brunch, I'm sure other dishes on the menu are delicious, but the only thing that matters to me is the Croque Madame: Carlton farms ham, Gruyere cheese & Béchamel on French fried Brioche, served with Organic Greens.  This is essentially a Croque Monsieur, with a fried egg on top.  Perfect.

My GF orders the Brioche French Toast: Ricotta stuffed Brioche, Currants(?) sprinkled on top, with maple syrup Carleton farms Ham on the side.  Snipes from me.

Not a word was said during brunch.  Less talk, more eat.  Like a silent drill platoon.

Look at the pictures, wipe that drool off your chin, drop down give me 20 and beeline it to 35th St Bistro!

This is one of those places where the portions are not small, they are just controlled. Meaning that, one does not have to have 5 potatoes worth of fries in order for the fries to be enjoyable. What the entrees lack in amount they more than compensate in taste, flavor, and style.

I had the fish of the day, which was seared salmon. It was sensational. My lovely date had the prawn risotto. She too found her pick to be more than worth whole. The two of us shared a small pale of the Bistro's famed frites. These are fries, but fancy, sexy, and refined fries. Peppered with Parmesan cheese, the hints of garlic and salt...oh my, it was quite the experience. At only 5 bucks a pale, this is a great deal. Fantastic for dates, great for small groups, and over all a really nice place to have food and drinks.

I recommend trying the Negroni. Part gin, part vermouth, part bitter...all amazing.
