There is no better way to kick it into the spring seasons than visiting this adorable Saturday market spot. Native Baltimoreans dressed in sprightly ponchos and hand woven shoes sell their finest of products. A few noteworthy vendors include the man who sells homemade ginger tea (a great hangover or stomach ache cure) as well as the vendor with all natural beef jerky. Check out the beer brewed jerky flavor is you're feeling adventurous. The pickle stand is always popular. However, my favorite beyond favorite vendor is the stand that makes falafels with 100% organic ingredients. Although Pete's Grille is right up the road, these falafels match any egg and cheese combinations at the famous breakfast eatery.

Don't forget to bring your reusable grocery bags and enjoy!

I had forgotten all about the 32nd Street Farmers' Market until I read the reviews here on Yelp.  They've been running this market ever since I was a teenager and perhaps earlier; I used to live in the neighborhood, so it wasn't uncommon for me or my family to stroll down to Barclay and 32nd and get some good food.  Today I stepped back into my childhood!

One loaf of Atwater's bread, a huge jar of locally-made honey, two containers of hummus, a scone, a cup of Zeke's and a huge falafel wrap later, the Love of My Life and I left, perfectly satisfied.  We were mightily impressed by all of the different offerings; I must say that some of the vegetables were absolutely ginormous.  If we'd had more money, we would have splurged and gotten tons of stuff.  The debit/token system was actually quite helpful and allowed us to spend more than what we had on hand.

Of course, that could be quite a dangerous thing.

I didn't see the Ethiopian food mentioned in previous reviews; if I had, I would have so stopped there based on what I'd read alone.  I will definitely look for them the next time I return.

The woman at the falafel table was absolutely awesome.  She made a falafel wrap that was to. DIE. for.  I've never had anything so delicious in my life.  It's things like this that make me WANT to go vegetarian - if only I didn't like meat so much.

The hummus booth was absolutely the highlight of the market.  Made by a company called The Wild Pea, they had tons upon tons of flavored hummus that we were allowed to try out before buying.  I only bought two (the cinnamon raisin OHMIGAWD and the "Vampire Slayer", apparently so much garlic it burns your mouth), but with the selection of flavors, I will be back for much, much more.  Wasabi basil pesto hummus?  WIN.

Parking, I imagine, can be absolute hell, but we actually lucked out and snagged a space only half a block away from the market.

Street musicians make the atmosphere quite festive!

I am so back next weekend.

SUCH a great farmers market. I am in love. There is great food/coffe/smoothies you can get while shopping, the frequent live music, fresh produce, and vareity of goods. They have everything from bison to sprouts. Great place that has everything. I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

They also accept credit cards - they give five dollar tokens and vendors give you cash back if you don't use the whole amount of the tokens, and they never expire.

Definitely worth giving them your business!

I am so in love with the Waverly Farmers Market. This probably has mostly to do with the fact that it's a 10 minute walk from my house but it's such a great size! It's much less overwhelming than the market under 83 and I love the fact that it's open year-round.

But the thing I really really super love about the Waverly Market? They accept Food Stamps! And you get these cool little wooden tokens that make you feel like a kid playing house! As someone trying to subsist off an Americorps living stipend for the year I very much appreciate the fact that I can use my benefits to get fresh, local produce instead of being forced to buy subpar veggies from Safeway (*shudder*).

    The good:
    - Totally within close walking distance of my house!
    - Runs year-round. I can still get my farm-fresh local eggs in January!
    - A good mid-size market. Great selection and variety of vendors: produce, eggs, cheese, handmade soap, incense, jewelry, knitted/crocheted crafts, ready-made hot food, Zeke's coffee, nuts/trail mix, meat and fish, jams/jellies/preserves, and baked goods.
    - Try the hot ginger lemon drink! It's good! Especially if you take it home and pour dark spiced rum in it. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
    - Musicians provide great background entertainment. Please do tip them.
    - If you don't have cash, or if you run out of cash, you can use your card to buy tokens good at all booths at the market. The fee for buying the tokens is less than most ATM fees, so it's not a bad deal at all. Better than running in to the 711 to use their ATM.

    The bad:
    - Produce is very limited during winter, obviously. Much of what is there in the winter months is not local, but comes from Florida/California/Georgia.
    - You will often have to deal with canvassers asking you to sign petitions (YMMV on the annoyance level of this) and there is usually one or two people trying to get you to buy those newspapers put out by the Revolutionary Communist party. I'm somewhat of a socialist/anarcho-syndicalist but that particular "party" skeezes me out. One week I bought a paper and it's basically all about how the guy who created the party is a genius and knows how to solve all our problems and we should give him money to do so. Yeah, thanks but no thanks.
    - It runs from 7am till noon on Saturdays, so if you were up late Friday night it might be hard to make it there. But if you're a morning person, great!

    I love this farmer's market!
If you're up early on a Saturday morning, this market is open from 7:00 to around 12:00 and it has plenty of fresh, seasonal produce as well as breads and dairy.

Make sure you stop by the Baltimore Public School booth and support their program. Also, check out the bike powered smoothie booth. Awesome!

We just moved to Baltimore and were thrilled to discover that this farmer's market is within walking distance from our house!

We strolled down to discover not only beautifully fresh produce, but also plants and potted flowers, herbs, made to order lemonade, local meats and cheeses, and diverse food stands. We chowed down on amazing empanadas, fresh pickles (sweet and hot), and strawberries.

We also found this amazing Ethiopian dude and his wife that make the BEST lentil spreads. I was so pleased to find many prepared foods to choose from, including spreads, ethnic foods, bakeries, etc. They were even handmade soaps and purses for sale.

We just finished the most incredible salad from all the wonderful spring lettuce mix and other produce we bought there. I will be a regular on Saturdays and that's all there is to it. I'm in love. This is a fairly small, but diverse offering of vendors and farmers.

I dunno. Trying to drive through this area, much less PARK, is pretty awful from 7am until about 11am. Most of the vendors have good stuff, but half the time, I got home and found black insides when I cut open my fruit.

They finally banned dogs from the market, but some people still bring them, jumping all over people, barking at you, or causing scenes. I'd say they should ban morons who can't control their dogs, but oh well.

Went there today for the first time. This place is fantastic. Absolutely a must if you are into FRESH and LOCAL produce, fruit, bread, pickles, eggs and pretty much anything you could ever want and need.

There are many organic options and in talking to the vendors, most all of them are the farmers too. There is no middleman here. The "farmer's markets" I am used to (lived in Melbourne, FL last 4 years) consist of people selling pesticide infested garbage from Mexico, Peru, and pretty much any other place besides local.

I bought arugula and spinach from a lady who owns a 500 acre farm about an hour north of here. Talking with her, I could feel the passion, love, and energy she pours into her produce. I also bought some port wine cheese from a vendor that milks the cows and then makes the cheese 75 feet away from where the cows are milked. Talk about fresh!

I can only assume that March is the slow time for this market and cannot wait to see what it will be like once spring comes full throttle and summer is bumping. Should be off the hook.

    Bottom line - GO!

One of my favorite outings is to hit the 32nd street Farmer's Market.  This is Baltimores biggest and best Farmer's Market, open year round, but of course much enhanced in the summer.  Parking can be a little difficult so it's best to get there early.

Not all of the produce here is local, but a good deal of it is.  So you will have no problem finding a great selection of regional and organic food here.  Also, there is representation from some of Balto's finest food vendors, including Atwaters bakery and Neopol Smokehouse, which is a must stop.

Neopol smokes everything they can think of.  Try the smoked garlic, or their insanely thick cut bacon.  The savory smoked cheesecakes are to die for, and they make some of the best smoked salmon you've ever tasted.

There are a couple of noteworthy prepared food vendors as well.  The Curry Shack makes a mean curry and Ethiopian delights is also a treat.  If Mrs. Williams is there, take home one of her sweet potato pies!

Okay, so it pales in comparison to the Berkeley Farmers Market, but what wouldn't?

It's still really good, and I'm so glad it's year-round.  It's also a good place to walk our dog amidst all the bustle and hustle so that he can make a fool of us while he misbehaves.  I think the vendors appreciate that.

    My favorites:

    * There are usually a couple stands of apples and pears, which I care about only because they sell excellent East Coast apple (or pear) cider.

    * Zeke's Coffee - a really great local roaster (which you can also get at the local Eddie's Market).  They carry a variety of Organic/Fair Trade roasts.  My favorites are the Mexican Chiapas and Hippie Blend.  :)  I think they're about $10 for a pound.

    * Atwater's Bakery - SO sadly just stopped selling wholesale to Eddie's!  So I guess I will have to get them at the farmers market from now on.  Anyways, this is my favorite local bakery I've found so far.  They make a variety of breads, but my favorites are the focaccia, peasant wheat, and some Irish kind I forget the name of but starts with a "C".  I think.

    * South Mountain Creamery - I've only bought from them once, but it was mind-blowingly good dairy.  I used their whole milk in making mint chocolate-chip ice cream, and it was far and away the best ice cream I've made.  The milk was some of the best milk I've ever had.  Wow.  They do the thing where you put down a bottle deposit, so expect to put down a little extra cash the first time you buy from them.  They also sell cheeses.

    * There's also this one produce stand run by some nice Korean people.  They sell produce for wicked cheap, especially if you get there near the end of the market.

    What to watch out for:

    * The twelve o'clock bell!  The market closes at noon, and once they start ringing the bell, the show's over.  You aren't allowed to make any further transactions.  It's weird.

    * I don't know the name of it, but there's one bakery stand that sells some delightful looking croissants and other breakfasty pastries.  Don't be fooled!  They look great, but taste and feel like they were lifted from the local Sam's Club.  Highly mediocre.

Shea butter, Ethiopian food, pickles, baked goods and TONS of veggies! People at the market could be a little more family friendly, and personable, sometimes it feels like turnover is the only goal for both buyers and sellers.

A first-rate market! I came to Baltimore from Vermont, looking for local food and culture. From what I can tell, this market is the best of both. The food is great, and so are the people. And it runs year-round!

Some have said that not everything's local, and that's true. But local is a slippery word. Baltimore is, after all, a city, so some of the stuff comes from VA or PA or farther afield. Either way localness is just one aspect of a farmer's market. If you'd like a general awareness of food and community, you'll find it here. You can certainly have a face, name and handshake with whatever you buy.

Their very helpful website lists the vendors and what's in season. I have favorites. But I haven't tried everything, so I don't dare list them. Make your way to all the tables. You won't regret it!

Great market with a variety of local goods.

There is a wide variety of vendors and you can very easily source an entire meal from soup to nuts here in Waverly.  The local vegetable of the month abounds, make sure you make the rounds before you decide to buy.  Prices and quality fluctuate as you go from stand to stand but most, if not all, of the vendors are really proud of what they do and will stand behind their products and produce.

Don't be afraid to get in there and do some sampling!  That's the joy of hitting the market and being amongst the growers.

So many great offerings. If you haven't been this is the best market in Baltimore. Fresh dairy, produce, breads and meats. This in the best place to purchase fresh and local food. But be aware that not everything is local- just ask.

The best thing is that this market runs year-round. I love this market.

Another plus is you can use your debit card if you forget cash- just hit the right booth and you can shop with tokens.

Wow, what a great way to spend the morning!

I came here and bought a delicious loaf of Italian rosemary bread and a block of smoked cheddar cheese.  They were both delicious!  I probably could eat the entire loaf and block by myself....but I was nice and shared with my friends during dinner.

Lots of options here, including some fun ethnic choices such as an Ethiopian food stand, a Thai food stand, and a general great produce.  If I lived nearby (I was visiting from DC), I would have bought my more.

If and when I visit again, I'll come again!

Since moving to Charles Village in August, this market has been a Saturday morning for me almost every week.  The market is good sized with a variety of vendors, but it is small enough that there's still a homey, community feel to it.  The vendors all know each other and there is always some good-natured ribbing happening across stalls.

Many of the produce vendors have similar stock (all of it very fresh and delicious!), but there are a few stands that are really unique and I always make sure to hit up when I go:

-Bmore Bill's Dills: Homemade pickles from an awesome couple! They have like 10 different varieties of pickles and are very generous with letting you try all the kinds.

-Max's Empanadas: The main storefront is in Little Italy, but they have a little stand at the farmer's market every week. The chorizo and ham and cheese are my favorites.

-South Mountain Creamery: Freshest, best tasting milk I've ever had!  If you are in a splurge mood, go for the chocolate milk.  It is amazing. They also have cheese, butter, yogurt, etc.

-Atwater's Breads:  Great, fresh breads (and cookies and cakes) in all different varieties. The rosemary italian loaf is a winner for sure!

Get up early and GO! There are many outdoor/indoor markets and farmers markets in Baltimore but this one is my favorite. It is tucked in the middle of a bohemian neighborhood (east of Charles Village), which gives it more of a community feel:  similar to Eastern Market, but on a smaller scale. On Saturdays, there is live music (see photos) and it is crowded - so get there early. Am especially fond of the fresh artisanal bread there (Uptown Bakery et al.) but the fruit and vegetable selection from local farmers is excellent. This is a family friendly place. So get up early on Saturday, grab your friends, SOs or kids - and enjoy!

This review is for the 32nd Street Market which is the market's correct name--not 14th street market. This is a really great market. All the vendors are friendly and helpful--they always have great suggestions. Atwater breads is really yummy. The produce is all really fresh and tastes great. The only down side is that not a lot of vendors are organic and there is no dairy that sells milk and yogurt. Get there before 9 because the lot fills up fast and there is not a lot of street parking.

Great. Local. Fresh. Organic. All in Charles Village on Saturday mornings. The "bean ladies" are legendary, as are the folks who offer more varieties of heirloom tomatoes (in summer) than I have ever seen. There are some good Pennsylvania orchards, lots of smaller vendors who sell great produce, specialty stands offering Ethiopian fare, ginger drinks, amazing mushroom sandwiches, Neapol smoked goods, the Pirate Spice guy, and the pickup truck full of Maryland corn that draws the crowds. This is smaller than the downtown market, and parking is indeed hard to come by, but it's so worth it.

Great for when you need a fix of local produce and don't feel like going to the larger Sunday market under the overpass downtown.

Good produce selection (limited in the winter, naturally), along with a variety of other foods and goods, including soaps, prepared dishes, smoked foods, cheeses, and bread.
