Review from Kevin J.

This is about the best gallery in the area for gallery art on the street art tip. They pack a lot of art into a narrow space and most of it is usually pretty good. The current show is dedicated to sticker art, and I say it's high time stickers got their place in the spotlight. I mean, they've been outside, trying to get in forever, right?
The outside of the gallery is currently emblazoned with a slew of Ron English parody deconstructions of advertisements. Most are pretty clever. With as many ads as we're bombarded by, it's nice to see some anti-ads calling the snake oil salesmen out on their horseshit.
There's a small selection of art supplies at the rear of the gallery. They have Ironlak and Montana spraypaint as well as some fattie markers. Their Montana prices are actually a whisker cheaper than Utrecht, too. Have at it, kids! -

This gallery is just what I feel like Detroit has been missing. A gallery that strives to bring in Urban type artists to the likes of what I've seen in magazines such as Juxtapoz and Fructose...artists that have a unique perspective.
Recently they had a Glenn Barr show there and I was blown away. It reminded me of similar shows I've been to at smaller galleries in L.A. I got a really great print from them for my house for a great price. I will definitely be back.
They are expanding the gallery to an additional room and have a selection of clothing- hoodies, printed T's and handmade items for sale along side the gallery pieces. I'm excited to have a place promoting up and coming art so close to home! -

I've been from New York to Chicago & up the west coast several times, and this is by far one of the best galleries I've ever experienced. Many different artists and a variety of unique gifts. I love the decor, very retro & trendy. You could easily spend an hour or two looking over all the neat pieces. And most definately find something that you must have.
Mike, the dude with the cool haircut, was super nice & very informative. I look forward to my next visit to 323 East. -

Selling everything from modern to traditional art 323 East in Royal Oak has a bit of something for everyone. This chic and trendy gallery/boutique hybrid offers locals some of the most creative and innovative art pieces, jewelry, and fashion the Metro Detroit area has to offer.
Located on 4th Street just blocks away from Royal Oak's main shopping district, 323 East prides itself on being an environment that artists of all mediums can promote their work in. They offer customer quirky, one of a kind pieces, like a wallet made out of a Danielle Steele book that I still regret not purchasing. Sculptures, accessories, paintings and hand screenprinted ties are available at this hip boutique by such artists as Kill Taupe, Brian Kenny, Bridget Michael and City Bird to name a few.
323 East is definitely one of Metro Detroit's raddest new galleries. It's unfortunate that this gem hasn't received more local attention. For more information check out their website. -

This is such a teeny tiny space, but they really fill it with some nice art! I have been for a few openings there and they are always fun. The murals on the outside of the building are great and add so much to the whole street.

Good array of work. Small slightly quirky building. Love the graffiti on the side wall. Prices for art vary, but aren't terribly marked up.

i'm reviewing 323 as both a gallery and a supply store since most of the reviews already on here only seem to be talking about it as a gallery
as a gallery: 4/5 stars
as a supply store: 2/5 stars
avg: 3/5
the art is great, the exhibits are unique and hip, and it's a nice place to be to socialize and meet the kinds of people who will help you get up.
however, in terms of an art supply store this place is not the place to be going. the place is really cramped and narrow as it is, head to the back where they sell supplies and you realize there's only about five or six cans, 8 or 9 markers, and not much else. on top of that it's about twice the price i'd pay directly from the maker. the supplies are kind of haphazardly squished in the corner and put in a case.
they do carry rare art supplies, particularly spray paints. they have brands i can't really find elsewhere so now i am forced to pay a lot for them since i hate waiting for shipping, etc.
it's a pretty cool place. nice people, really helpful and considerate. but i think their supply game is iffy and maybe they should consider buying more art instead.
also they are closed a lot. unpredictably. i drive there not sure if i'll be lucky enough to go in.
